This was just not my cup of tea. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and I really just didn't like the story. I got half way through and skimmed through the rest of the book.
I was really bored while reading this, there were several times where I wanted to dnf this book, and I wasn't interested any of the characters (with the exception of Tanner). Didn't enjoy Tatum as a character at all. I thought this book would deal more with her as a chef but it just followed her as the little boy who called wolf.
3.5⭐
The (Half) Truth was an interesting story and one that certainly had potential. But for me it just fell a little flat and I felt like it was missing something that would of made me connect with and enjoy it more than I did. Yet, the characters were likable enough and for the most part I was engaged. I just wasn't necessarily expecting it to play out the way it did, and the lies Tatum told just seemed to get a little more ridiculous as this story progressed. And I just didn't get why she wouldn't put a stop to it sooner or at least come clean to Jason. But it was easy to read, and it did have a couple of hot moments. Not to mention a few that made me smile. And as a new author to me, I would certainly read more from Leddy Harper in the future. I would also happily recommend this story to others.

This was fun read with very steamy moments.
This book does have slow burn aspect with I loved, but at times the story did drag a bit and I skimmed some conversations that felt repetitive. This fake romance is very different than I expected, especially since Jason wasn't aware of the relationship that Tatum created. I have to say I loved Tatum's awkwardness which was hilarious, but it did cause her a lot of problems throughout the book. I absolutely adored Jason because he was sweet and understanding with Tatum's quirkiness and just knew how to get her out of her shell.
I did NOT like Michael with his actions and his behavior, he was just a major turdburger; also in my opinion, her co-workers seriously annoying and nosy gossip mongers and not her friends. I did not really understand what Tate thought would happen with all her half truths, but it did blow up in her face (literally). In the end, I enjoyed the book and Tate and Jason were a very hot and hilarious couple.
A sarcastic and humorous love story that reminded me so much of my own that it had me laughing, crying and impatiently waiting for their HEA. I loved the banter between them! It made everything so much more real and had me rooting for them to win!
This is my first time reading this author. I had a hard time getting through this one. I think I was getting irritated with Tatum and all of her lies, it was happening a lot. Sometimes boarding on ridiculous. I did skim some because some parts did drag on for me. I did like the texts between her and Jason, they were cute. But I'm saddened to say that this one was just meh for me.
This has to be one of the best rom coms that I have read in a long while, there were so many laugh out loud moments.
Tatum and Jason's relationship starts out with a little white lie that spins into a fantastic relationship, that is until the truth comes out. But at the end of the day was the white lie really that big of a deal? Will Jason be able to get past what Tatum has done?
Loved ready this book
Forewarning do not go into his book thinking that it is your typical romance read. It’s not.
Tatum is our heroine. She’s spunky, plucky and full of something, pun intended. What she isn’t full of is courage. What happens when a little white lie spins out of control? You have to concoct more lies...and more lies and more...
Our hero is Jason. Who is made to seems like your typical manwhore. But he’s a bit deeper than they give him credit for. He meets Tatum and is instantly attracted to her and digs her strange behavior.
Their journey is hilarious. But you know that lies have a way of blowing up. So why don’t you hitch a ride onto book and read it? I will be reading from this author again
I received the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, Netgalley and the publisher.
The (Half) Truth is wholly adorable. It's a case of the whatever it takes to not look like a pathetic mess in front of your ever present ex. Or a case of I didn't mean to like him. Or maybe we can use the I didn't mean to fall for your hot cousin excuse...
Whichever excuse you try to pass off as legit, it will only be the half truth.;) See what I did there!?!
Sexy and gorgeous, he came out of nowhere.
An awkward knockout had him intrigued from the get go.
Everything else...well let's just say, things got out of hand. Or in hands...(lecherous wink)
The (Half) Truth is a secret romp gone wrong...no, It's a romp gone secretly wrong. Still not right, it's everything gone right and a big smiley faced ending too!
The was an overall great read. The characters were relate-able and interesting. The main characters Jason and Tatum were unique in their own ways. Tatum is a quirky quiet chef and Jason is her best friends cousin who just moved back to town and is considered a major playboy, but when the two of them meet it's sparks at first sight. They had their ups and their downs and even a bit of a flare up (pun intended) (you'll see once you read it) but it was the journey that had me going from beginning to end. It was a quick and fun read that i couldn't wait to see what Tatum would get herself into next. Entertaining from beginning to end.
*Thank you NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC.
I liked the story a lot, it was really cute and funny! At times I just couldn't stop reading it.
The characters were great, they had a lot of chemistry, I rooted for them the whole time. If you like the no strings attached/friends to lovers type of storyline, I recommend this book for you!
It took me a little bit to get into but once the story started to get going, I didn’t want it to end. Liked the characters and story. Was entertaining and easy to read. 4.5 Stars
This book was a miss for me. Which makes me sad that I didn't like it as much as I thought I was going to. I've scrolled thru many of the reviews on Goodreads and really feel like I'm the odd-ball out.
I enjoy Leddy Harper's writing style and have read/enjoyed a few of her books in the past, but I just didn't connect well with these characters and their storyline.
I feel like it's a me problem and definitely not the fault of the book - it's well written and I encourage other reader's to give it a try.
I enjoyed reading this story.
It took me a little while to get into it but once I did the story flowed well.
The characters were easy to read about and like. There was humour, seriousness and romance.
I hope to read more about some of the side characters in this book.
I would definitely recommend this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book. From the description, I expected it to be a typical 'pretend relationship' trope where Tatum eventually asks Jason to help her out and pretend they're dating for the sake of her old relationship. It's actually more twisted than that, and a lot more awkward. The author does this well though, and you find yourself begging for the two main characters to get it together. I like that both characters have issues with their ex, not just one; and I like that Jason's previous relationship ended in a way that wasn't dramatised. I enjoyed the chemistry between these two and the friendships between the family members.

This is my first Leddy Harper story and it definitely won't be the last. It drew me in and I finished it easily. I liked Tatum and Jason characters but thought the white lies upon white lies upon white lies was pretty silly and why Tatum didn't just fess up from the start baffled me. Overall though this was an enjoyable story and hopefully more of the secondary characters will get their own stories.
I usually find it irritating when a novel’s plot revolves around one character telling a lie and this novel’s plot revolves around lie after lie as the heroine finds that what our parents told us: one lie leads to another. Soon she’s deceiving her friends and fellow employees, and all sorts of people whom she cares about simply because she couldn’t bear that her former boyfriend had moved on with a new girlfriend.
Even though I don’t like that plotline, the writing in this novel and the humor made this a fun read. The hero, Jason, is a great guy who resists the opinion his cousins have of him as a manwhore. Instead, he’s moved back him to be with his family even at the cost of ending his relationship with a long-term girlfriend. But as soon as he meets Tatum, he’s attracted to her and gets a kick out of her awkward behavior. We all know that Tatum’s lies are going to be exposed and Jason will be hurt and angry but that it will all work out in the end. It’s getting there that was fun.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
This story made me laugh out loud a few times and I wasn't expecting that. I really liked Jason's sense of humor and how easy going his attitude is towards all the craziness happening around him. A craziness inadvertently happening because of Tatum's awkwardness. She doesn't do it on purpose, she just can't control all the gossip that develops around her and behind her back.
These two character are both hard at trusting, and both hurt. But when they are together everything flows easily. There is a sense of calm that they bring out of the other, that no one else does. Plus to both of them family and friends are a very important key on their future plans. All of that is great for their feelings and ability to move on but it means that for their present it just make the development of their relationship a bit harder. There is to many people with their own opinion of what Jason and Tatum should do. And Tatum has the oddest things happening to her. Which makes it more interesting for us the readers. And one the plus is that it feels very realistic with the characters behaviors and their worries.
Let`s face it. When we read a romance novel we know that things will work out in the end. That`s why we read them right? The (Half) Truth is no different, however it's how you get to the happy ending that is what readers are looking for. A little lie becomes a twisted mess, but oh how funny and wonderful the mess is! Leddy Harper is a writer who handles witty comebacks and dialogue very well. She's now on my "must read" list!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with the ARC in exchange for my honest review and opinions.
The (Half) Truth
I was so excited to receive my second Leddy Harper ARC.
I think this is one of the most hilarious books I've ever read todate. Tatum Alexander is a superstar in the kitchen but is all kinds of awkward... Enter Jason Watson... Tatum's bestfriend' mãnwhørē cousin, who is all kinds of dreamy. What started as a tiny white lie, snowballed into an uncontrollable avalanche of lies... it was a clu$terfüçk. For real. There were a lot of LOL moments in there.
I definitely can relate to the awkwardness of it all.
But it's not all fun and games though, there were moments that'll pull on your heartstrings as well.
It's family centered... it'll teach you about second-chances and also about taking risks.
If you're looking for a fun and light read, then this is the book to pick up next.
