I think this was a very interesting and informative read. As someone who struggles with infertility, I'm not childless by choice. Seeing how people move on and continue to live happy lives and find joy, without children, is inspiring to me!
I was hoping for more from this book: more interviews with people who live childfree-by-choice, to hear how they deal with the annoying and intrusive questions and judgments about their choice; to hear from more people like me, who find MANY other things in this life more fulfilling than kids; even more statistics and research. Unfortunately, this book was mainly just observations from the author's own life and own circle of friends, and not very in-depth (nor useful) at that (lots of platitudes, lots of flowery and generic statements, lots on Schuitemaker's personal spiritual beliefs). I do appreciate that she called out the fact that when you don't have kids and others around you do, you become sort of "invisible" or "less than important in comparison to" - a sad truth. It was also interesting how Schuitemaker broke the book down into the "seasons" of a life and discussed the specific challenges and frustrations for those times. Overall, not a bad read, but not what I was hoping for.
It's an interesting read/account on why some people choose not to have children for a number of different reasons. It was nice that they wanted to share their stories of how their lives have been without children. Also how it was the right decision for them. Despite what society or other pressures think.
