It took longer than it normally would to finish, one of Christine Feehan’s title. Nonetheless, finished I did. Toxic Game wasn’t up to par with her other titles in this series, yet I still enjoyed the drama. GhostWalker, Draden Freeman, was on a rescue mission when he is infected with a deadly virus. He only had one choice, to force his fellow teammates, his brothers to leave him behind. But before he dies, he will make sure the ones who killed him will die hard and fast.Shylah, a GhostWalker herself knew what it takes to make evil pay. But not like the person that she sees stalking the terrorist responsible for wiping out an entire village. One by one the terrorist was followed never seeing or hearing their assailant. While following him, she saves him. But unbeknownst to Shylah, she linked her life to the mysterious GhostWalker.I loved the GhostWalker series, but even I as an advent fan of Christine Feehan found that this book was slow in places and didn’t maintain the suspense that I came to enjoy. Most of this book takes place in the jungle of Indonesia, which may have caused me to lose focus. Even though Spider Game takes place in one location (the swamps) it had more action and suspense that was lacking in Toxic Game. The attraction that Draden experience when he first saw Shylah just wasn’t to be believed, even knowing that Dr. Whitney may have paired them together. If you read any previous title in this series, then their attraction doesn’t even compare to Wyatt and Pepper nor Trap and Cayenne.I will continue reading this series. Even now I can’t what to see whose book is next. Even a top author can have a blunder now and again…I hate to say or see that Toxic Game was one of those books.
I was super excited because 1) GhostWalkers! 2) Most romantic! 3) GhostWalkers! Okay, so I’m a little obsessed with the GhostWalker series, it’s true. I’ve come to expect a lot from the series. When I say a lot, I mean a lot. This one was so incredibly rushed. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t good, just that it didn’t work for me.
Draden Freeman is on a rescue mission when he is infected with a deadly virus. Knowing he needs to force his team to leave him behind, he does just that. His plan is to bring as many terrorist responsible for spreading the virus as possible before he dies. And he knows he’s going to die. The village the the terrorists took out with the virus attests to that brutal fact. Then he meets Shylah Cosmos, one of Peter Whitney’s orphan girls. She’s there on her own mission. While following him, she saves him inadvertently infecting herself. Draden is furious, but can’t help but be attracted to Shylah’s calm and acceptance of her fate.
Shylah is in the Indonesian jungle to track down the three scientists that are responsible for creating the virus. Her job isn’t to bring them in. Her job is to kill them and bring their research in. It’s only as her and Draden start working together that they realize that the virus wasn’t make as a biological weapon. It was made for Shylah herself. Peter Whitney doesn’t like when his girls escape and Shylah is the only one that can fight off whatever virus is injected into her body. It was only by chance that the scientists created a weapon to which there was no antidote. Or could there possibly be one?
The speed in which Draden and Shylah fell in love was a matter of days. The only thing that made in believable was that they both believed they were going to die. Otherwise it was just completely implausible. Even with Whitney and his imprinting of the men and women, it was still too fast. The rest of the book was actually pretty good, even the scientific part of it. I always admire how much research Feehan puts into her books. While I’m clueless as to whether the info is accurate, it sure seems like it is.
Rating: 3.75 out of 5.

Feehan's Ghostwalker series is one of my favorites and so is Toxic Game. Like others in the Ghostwalker series Toxic Game offers a little bit of every thing, strong characters, a continuing storyline to enjoy the family of Ghostwalkers, a strong love story and some great science fiction or maybe possible scientific maladies we hope never to see. The story of Draeden and Shylah develops slowly as the virus infection takes over their body yet they continue doing their job so the terrible deed upon the area village is never repeated. It's the characters I enjoyed as they grew to know each other and let their attraction grow before diving into a relationship.. Their conversations and actions highlight another good entry into the very enjoyable series,
Good continuation of the Ghostwalker series but I did not feel like it was Feehan's best. Much of the prose was repetitive and kept the main characters circling for way too long. I didn't feel that these two had the same depth as say Wyatt and Pepper. Plus, while trying to describe the disease, they didn't want it to be Ebola but called it Ebola like for so long it just made the whole premise monotonous. Unfortunately, it's starting to remind me why I stopped her Carpathian series.
Draden always knew death was a possibility with his job. But he never expected a virus to take him out. However, if he has to go he will take as many of the enemy as he can. And then he meets Shylah. Could fate be so cruel as to show him a future when all he has is the present?
Toxic Game is fifteenth in Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalker series. I adored this addition to Ms. Feehan’s series. Draden was such a loner. He is separate even as he is an integral part of his Ghostwalker team. I loved his silent but deadly strength. He was there for the family he has made until he can’t. I love that Ms. Feehan gave us this alpha male that faced death on his terms. At least until he met Shylah.
I adored Shylah as well. She was impressed with more than Draden’s looks. I love that even as Ms. Feehan gave us a peek of Draden’s past she gave him a woman who saw beyond his beauty. I love that Shylah accepted Draden’s choice even as she made her own. She faced death as best she could. And when she faltered, Draden was there to bolster her courage.
This story by Ms. Feehan is full of emotion. I laughed. I cried. And I loved every moment of the emotional roller coaster Ms. Feehan took me on. I love returning to this world and the sense of family it has. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Feehan has in store for us next.
Ms Feehan has continue to write about the military elite solider ( the Ghost walkers) and his quest for love. The Ghost Walker are assigned to get the people out of area were a toxic agent has been released. They almost all escape when Dr. Draden Freeman is shot with the toxic agent. He decides to stay behind and kill the one responsible for the killing of the villages and find the scientist responsible for the toxic. Shylah Cosmos’s mission is to track the virus and the scientist who created it and bring them back to Whitney dead or alive. The unexpected happens when of Shylah having to saving Draden life endangers both of the them with the virus. The had a hard time with this book due to the slowness it found it hard to get into this story. The book does pick up toward the middle and end. I enjoy the interaction between the other Ghost walkers and that they have their own families and what they have gotten into
I wonderful addition to this fun series even after 14 previous novels! Christine Feehan is still able to provide a unique experience with the couples that we meet in the Ghostwalker series. Readers familiar with this series have met Draden in previous novels, as he's a member of the team settling in the Louisiana Bayou that we've been following for the past few novels, but Draden's background is not something that had been previously shared. We're in a similar boat with Shylah, the previous two novels "Power Game" and "Covert Game" involved the two women closest to Shylah, so we've heard about her previously.
I loved that this story had such a twist right when this couple meets. Draden has been injected with a HIGHLY contagious disease and is in the midst of taking revenge on the terrorist cell that did it. Shylah has been on the trail of the developers of said disease and is impressed while observing Draden work. What she doesn't know when she decides to rescue him from drowning is that he's infected. Now, they must hold up together and watch as the disease ravages through them. Neither expected to have such an instantaneous connection to each other. This developing relationship while in the cusp of dying, grows fast as they try to fit in all the experiences they won't get to have over a long life together.
Just a wonderful book that I've read twice already! Loved everything about it.
I have really enjoyed each book in the Ghostwalker series! In this one Draden and the rest of the Ghostwalker team are sent to a remote village to find out why the whole village was wiped out and rescue any survivors. What they find is a horrific scene of bioterrorism with themselves being the prime targets. When Draden is infected with the virus he vows to make the remaining time he has count. He wants to kill as many of the enemy he can and contain the virus. Then he meets Shylah who is also a genetically enhanced soldier like he is and things change. They need to find a cure and time is running out. Lots of suspense and romance!
I began reading the Ghostwalker books when the series first began but drifted away and forgot about them until recently. So, I was delighted when offered the opportunity to review this book. It gave me a chance to see if the books were truly stand-alones while I caught up with the wonderful characters I remembered. It ended up being a mixed batch.
First, while this book could be considered a stand-alone, there are so many characters referenced that it is very obvious much of the story has taken place before this book. It doesn't slow down or make this story any less but it may leave a first-time reader a bit frustrated.
The entire idea of the Ghostwalkers, their tight camaraderie and love for each other, their extreme and incredibly interesting backgrounds, PLUS the amazing writing skills of this author, are all in abundance here! That is the very best part of this story!
The not-so-great parts? Foremost is my personal aversion to reading a book where the entire plot is overshadowed by the protagonists ultimate death. In this installment Draden and Shyla have been infected with a horrific virus that has a 100% fatality rate. SO... no matter how fabulous the love that is growing between them, the death elephant in the room is always present - and dark and large and talked about constantly. I knew the synopsis going in but hoped that thread could be resolved in some way sooner in the book so it would take off like the others. Nope. It is the whole of the book.
There really isn't much suspense in this book either, which surprised me. I remember this series being full of heart-pounding action while those hot-love matches grew. Hopefully this is just a fluke but it was actually kind of slow. There was a LOT of repetition in the writing, especially in the protagonists thoughts. Good grief, we get it! If not the first time, at least the second. Assuredly before the tenth!
SO... overall? Fun to catch up and enjoy the gang again. A little let down it didn't grab me enough to want to rush out and get the rest of what I missed.
Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors and Toxic Game is one of the many reason's I read all of her series and haven't been disappointed.. This GhostWalkers installment is no exception. The author has done many hours of research on Ebola like viruses and it really shows in this book. I had to keep saying to myself, she wouldn't kill off these characters, would she??? I love the connection between Shylah and Draden. The way their romance blooms slowly is a beautiful love story. Both of these characters are contaminated with an Ebola like virus and believe they are dying. While the GhostWalker team feverishly works to find an antidote, Draden and Shylah continue with their mission, while dealing with the reality that they could die a horrible death in a matter of days. They really get to know and respect one another as the novel unfolds. This is a wonderful love story and the reason why Ms. Feehan will continue to be one of the best romance/suspense writers.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this enjoyable novel!
Love this book, the characters were amazing! I could not put this book down till the very last page! Christine Feehan is an amazing writer and I love her Ghost Walkers series.
Another great installment in the series. I've been curious about Draden from the beginning and excited to read his story. I enjoyed the setting and the different story line. Shylah is a great heroine and the perfect counterpart for Draden.
After finishing I promptly went back and re-read Spider Game and will probably continue on with Power Game.
Oh, I enjoyed reading this book! This series is my favourite of Christine Feehan's, because it's the one that introduced me to her writing, and there's the most action in them, I think. The romance can get a little repetitive, but the action, nope!
So this book is pretty high stakes, that both Draden and Shylah are infected with the virus. Draden had a tough childhood and didn't really trust. Shylah was brought up by Whitney, which we know is really bad, but she came out of it with a sense of humor as well as a sense of self. Loved reading about them together!
That they're infected with a brutal virus and have limited time left if a cure isn't found, this book is both fast paced, and takes place during a relatively short period of time. And a lot happens, from taking out bad guys to giving blood to find a cure. Oh, and romance, but only the emotional stuff because Draden is a guy and wants to be protective and isn't the most communicative about it. Yeah.
Near the end we get a very big surprise. And you'll know it's coming because it's different from the rest of the book. It's one that's going to have a big impact on the world, I think, and I'm really excited to see how it's going to play out!
Loved reading this book, it was so fantastic, and I can't wait for the next one (and to find out who is going to star in it!)
Really enjoyed this book. In fact one of the best yet. Really enjoyed all the great research Christine has done for the book. Made the book even more special.
The only two bad things I can say about this book are 1. I read it too quickly 2. there's not another Feehan book till the spring! Thoroughly enjoyed this installment of the Ghostwalker series. As with the others it is stand alone but it is nice to have read the previous ones in the series. This book was so action packed and romantic at the same time - I finished it in one sitting. As I said I'm bummed I have to wait now for another Feehan book!
