Really great story. Loved the storyline of this one. As always there a surprise ending that you don't see coming. Cheryl always seems to be able to surprise her readers. Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kobo Writing Life for an ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was skeptical starting at book 3, actually owning 1 & 2 but haven't had a chance to read them. I was looking forward to the series but wanted to get to this one to post my review.
I found it easy to follow and read without knowing the history! And I look forward to learning more about how Addison came into her psychic powers. This was a pretty straightforward haunting book, with some twisty surprises sprinkled throughout. A fast read and quickly paced, a good grab for haunted house fans and murder mysteries.
Title: Blackthorn Manor Haunting
Author: Cheryl Bradshaw
Initial thoughts
I was looking forward to reading the third book in the series because I loved the previous ones. And I genuinely loved this one as well.
Description
Addison and Luke are spending some time at Blackthorn Manor. One morning, gazing out at the ocean, she sees a woman in black, her body transparent. To get a better look she leans out over the windowsill when she is pushed. She grabs the of the window but it’s too late, she is falling.
Who tries to keep her from digging into the manor’s past? Who is the woman in black?
Addison is still nosy and stubborn and determined. She does her best to find out who the woman is, how she died and help her move on. She keeps getting better and better at handling her gift as the story goes on.
Luke seems only just an afterthought though. He is there when needed but doesn’t add anything to the story.
Marjorie on the other hand is an important person, she is aa stubborn as Addison and helps her a lot. Like grandmother like granddaughter really.
This story is also set in a manor house, a haunted manor house just like the previous ones. A house with a dark past, full of secrets.
All in all this was a gripping story, full of twists and an ending I didn’t see coming. Bradshow can keep up the suspense pretty good, made me guessing throughout the story. I will read the following book(s).
Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy,
Blackthorn Manor Haunting definitely had an interesting premise and I am always up for a good ghost story, but I have to admit that I was not a big fan of this book. The main character comes from a long line of psychic women and has the gift to see spirits, but when she is pushed out of a second-story window at the beginning of the book, unhurt, with no recollection of where she was, I was ready to give up pretty much at that point.
First of all, let me start with what I did find interesting, the overall story. The premise was good, and I am always up for a good ghost story. It was quick to read and the action moved along quite rapidly, but to be honest, I wasn't really invested in the story or in the characters. Having read the previous installments in this series, I was hoping for a bit more investment in the characters, but really could not get into the story or the characters; so little time was spent developing them or fleshing them out that I feel like I haven't really learned nothing new about them since the first book. In fact, I actually found Addison more annoying than usual in this book. You would think that by the third book I would be much more invested in the lives of the characters, but I only feel...disinterest.
Blackthorn Manor Haunting is a quick read, and although I really liked the premise, I couldn't empathize with any of the characters, and I couldn't really invest in the story line. I will probably not continue with this series, but I do urge you to judge for yourself and take a look. Ghost stories are something I do have a lot of experience reading, and while this one was not for me, it may be for you.
Blackhorn Manor Haunting is the third in this series and the first I have read. I am excited to find a new favorite author. I loved this book. It was well written and I loved the story.
First off I love Cheryl Bradshaw and this series. This is the 3rd book in the series.
The main character who is a medium Addison Lockhart is at Blackthorn Manor for her wedding. When she get a feeling of unease that something is off at Blackthorn Manor. After seeing a woman dressed all in black on the edge of a cliff she knows she has to help this spirit it's all a mystery.
Thankyou to NetGalley, Kobo Writing Life and the auhtor, Cheryl Bradshaw, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Blackthorn Manor Haunting in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
I have to admit, I am a fan of this author's novels, so I jumped at the chance to read this book. I enjoyed it.
The storyline was well thought out and written with well developed characters. It was deliciously creepy at times which is what keeps you on the edge of your seat. 3.5 stars.
Well worth a read.
Blackthorn Manor Haunting by Cheryl Bradshaw is the 3rd in the Addison Lockhart paranormal mystery series
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Kobo Writing Life, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books):
Addison Lockhart is a medium, like her mother and grandmother before her. Her talent only really manifested itself when she inherited Grayson Manor, upon her mother’s passing. As a child, her gifts vanished when she was convinced they didn’t really exist. Now she is learning to use her gifts to help others. Her boyfriend, Luke, is a restorer of historical homes. He knows Addison’s story and tries to help her. Her Grandmother has recently returned to her life, and showing Addison how to use her gifts.,
My Synopsis:
Addison arrives at Blackthorn Manor on her wedding day, only to find the spirit of a woman in black waiting for her. Although her grandmother assures her that the dead cannot hurt her, Addison wonders who pushed her out the second story window. Thankfully someone unseen cushioned her fall. Still, not a great beginning to her special day.
As Addison investigates the mysteries of the manor, she finds the spirit of a young boy, who tells her he will be leaving soon. Two spirits, a manor with a lot of secrets, and the owner a rather cantankerous old woman who refuses to answer Addison’s questions. She has her work cut out for her, and there are more deaths ahead.
My Opinions:
Okay, the first two books in this series were entertaining light reads. This one was really good. It had much more depth. The plot and twists were better, and although some of the dialog was a little stilted, overall, I enjoyed this book.
Maybe I’m just getting used to the characters, but I am looking forward to the next one!
After starting the book I have noticed it is the second book from this series. I really like it, the paranormal, mystery, ghost story, all in one.
Thank you Netgalley for this copy.
This is the second book with Addison I've managed to pick up and am really enjoying the series. You can pick it up as a standalone, so don't worry if you haven't read the others.
If you a like a little paranormal mystery then this series is for you. Ghosts and murder and strange happenings will keep you reading page after page.
Wow amazingly exciting, this has been one rollercoaster of a story, it takes you on a ride so intriguing and totally captivating. This paranormal mystery was totally mesmerizing, it engages your whole attention and you just can’t put it down until you have reached the last pages. Addison is some kinda gal to be able to deal with the living and the dead in sync and on her wedding day too, truly awesome. An entertaining and exciting read.
Good to meet these characters again in a mysterious mystery from beyond the grave. Fast paced with a few red herrings and lots of suspects.
This ghost story is a quick and easy read. It centers around a medium who see's a dead girl on her wedding day. She starts investigating at the old Inn where she is staying. There are many creepy people with secrets at this Inn. I found the story to be predictable and a little to light for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and Kobo Writing Life for the eARC.
Addison and Luke are at Blackthorn Manor for their wedding, but for some reason Addison is uneasy. As she's ready to put her wedding dress on, she looks out the window and sees a woman in black standing on a cliff. Bending out of the window, she feels a push at her back and wakes up below surrounded by worried faces. Strangely there's not a mark on her. With the psychic powers handed down through the women of her family, she feels compelled to help the woman in black. No one else can see her, but at least she can discuss the incident with her grandmother who, also psychic, understands.
This is the third in the series, but can be read as a standalone.
It's a short, featherlight read that I just couldn't get into. I liked the premise, but had no real interest in the characters or the story - I was bored. Maybe if I had read the previous books it would have made a difference, but I don't think do. Sorry!
I did not know this was book three in the series until I was midway through. I thought many portions felt like rushed explanations of back story, until I realized it was. However, this was a pretty good novel in the series. Addison and Luke get married. She sees a person kill her self, and their are a couple of murders. Addison seems a little irresponsible, like when she goes to a mysterious address by herself, while there is a murderer on the loose. All in all it’s a pretty good cozy mystery. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my honest review.
I had a hard time getting into this book. The characters weren't very well developed or likeable at the start. I did get into it about half way through as I got to know the people better and the main characters started filling in their personalities. I really enjoyed the ghosts and their background. It is complex and interesting. I'd like to have spend more time with Billy especially. #Blackthorn Manor Haunting #NetGalley
Good, this one sounded really good, but right from the start I just didn't like it. But then I found out why. This is book 3 in a series. However, nowhere on Netgalley can I find that it is this. I decided to check it out as it just felt like you should have read those other books, like I missed something. Then I checked Goodreads, and voila, book 3. Which explains a ton. So yeah, thanks, but I guess I first want to read the other books. And that will take a while, as I got a ton of other books that I first want to read.
Also, binocular vision? What is she a superhero? *rolls her eyes* Also, why marry in a decrepit mansion? Just because of a vision? Just because your fiance wants it? Screw that. One that vision, well, why not come back when it is not your most important day. And two, why not discuss with your hubby that you are uncomfortable.
And what was up with everyone's reactions to her falling out of that window? And why was that gardener just in her room?
The ghost was pretty creepy, sure. But again, I felt like I missed so much, and so I am not going to continue further.
