My review is based on the blurb.
Very funny and entertaining. In the style of Georgette Heyer but with much more humour and a bit of raunchiness. Highly recommended to any fans of historical romance.
"My Lady Original" is a somehow parody of the Regency era novel, and our protagonist, Lord Darenth finds himself victim of a strange joke: he's the protagonist of an anonymous novel, and Lady Herminone, an acquaintance of him, is portrayed as his love interest.
I was very disappointed by this book. Not only I did find the parody very ephemeral, and not at all a parody but something like a mock, but the characters were really one-dimensional.
I think this is the second book in a series that follows different couples in each book, but NetGalley didn't mention it, so I was kind of confused. There were a lot of names and a lot of people but zero personalities.
I also didn't particularly enjoy the fact that the character LAUGHED SAYING "HA HA HA". I mean I could not even read the book with a straight face.
The main romance could be cute, but at the end of the day really superficial.
The only scene that put a smile on my face was the one of the play, the only one where the character seemed to have a bit of personality.
Aside from that, I think this book was just not my cup of tea.
This is the first book that I have read from Elise Clarke, and I think is was great. It is the story of Lord Darenth and Lady Herminone and the powers that be, that bring them together. It is a story filled with love, friendship, misunderstandings, and laughter, and I would recommend it as a buy!
Lady Herminone finds herself drawn into an unusual friendship with Jack, Lord Darenth, through his friendship with Sandy, a man who seeks to marry Herminone whilst attracted to another. Seems complicated yet this book was quite entertaining if not different to what I had initially expected. Jack is portrayed as the main romantic character in a book that he believes has thrown him into the marriage mart yet can’t quite work out who the author is. Soon after, Herminone finds herself in a similar situation. What follows, is quite quirky, entertaining and amusing read with romance thrown into the mix. An enjoyable holiday read.
I received an advanced review copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Herminone and her family are one of a kind. From impromptu picnics in the salon, mid morning to drinking too much. They are very unconventional. Sandy is a friend who was injured in the wars. He asks Lady Herminone to marry him. Why not, everyone loves Sandy? Herminone knows he is attached to someone else and she needs time to find out who before they marry. Then there's a book called The Conqueror that is written. Who could it be about? It must be about Jack, Lord Darenth, one of Sandy's friends. He is very handsome and charming as the hero in the book is described. Jack and Herminone are thrown together and they become friends. There are so many things that happen, Herminone must have written the book, but she swears to Jack that she never wrote about him. Then another book is written and the characters are just like Jack and Herminone. I loved this book. It is very funny. I wish I was one of Lady Herminone's family. There's a scene between Athena and Apollo that was very revealing. Meanwhile, who wrote the two books? If you like romance and humor, this is a must read. I give it 5+. I received this book from Net Galley and Escape Publishing for a honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
This book has promise and yet it's undeniably convoluted. The plot line was lost nearly entirely beneath the over flowery language, the constant comma lists, and over abundance of missing punctuation especially a lack of quotations. I have no idea what the book was about, given I only made a few chapters in before claiming defeat, but I can't say I truly began to care. It took far qto much effort to continue and we knew berry little about the main charachters beyond he was a Corinthian and she an unsuitable from a wild family. I honestly didn't care about them at all and so putting the book back was an easy feat. I think this novel needs to not only go back to the drawing board for a large rewrite, but needs a heavy hand on the editing by a hard core professional. I hope my feedback helps.
4 stars
I enjoyed this book. It seemed different to the others in the genre.
Our heroine and hero are carefully drawn. There is a mystery of who is the author of a couple of scurrilious books that are making our hero's life a misery. Are there two authors or just one? What do they have to gain and who could they be as the details are so perfect. I felt I got more information of the hero's feelings than the heroine. She had quirky family, he had more traditional family and a couple of very good friends. It was more romance than full on passion and more amusement than hilarity but it kept my interest and I would recommend folks try it for something different.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
