Mystery writers in a quaint B&B in a picturesque West Coast town, with a mystery to solve. The perfect recipe for a cosy afternoon of escapism, Find all the clues you need as you lose yourself in the pages of this charming tale.
A very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters. Worthy of your TBR list.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Great setting and plot. I love a mystery with a cold case or older mystery that ties in with a current situation. The setting and characters were fun and engaging.
I enjoyed this. Morgan C. Talbot isn't an author I was familiar with but after reading this, I enjoyed it enough to seek out other work. It's a cosy mystery and easy to read during the working week. It's not obvious who the villain is and the main characters are likeable. All in all, an enjoyable read.
A Bag Of Bones..
The second in the Moorehaven Mysteries and the mystery author bed and breakfast is busy and buzzing with activity. When a skeleton is unearthed nearby, the treasure hunters arrive but is this bag of bones more recent than anyone gave credit for? With engaging and deftly drawn characters and a fun plot this is a worthy addition to the first in this entertaining series.
This book should really carry 3.5 stars.
Two things kept me reading this book until the end; one was that I very much liked several of the characters, was interested to find out more about them and what happened to them during this story and secondly, I was quite intrigued by the whole idea of a murder-mystery book writers only B&B, set in a sleepy coastal town, just off the Pacific Coast!
There are several mysteries going on in this story, all of which weave in and out of each other throughout. Add to that the complexities of several strangers coming together for the first time, the family dynamic of the hotel owners, friendships, old and new in the small town and a few romantic relationships going on, its quite a lot to juggle at first. There are so many characters that it took me a little while to get all of them straight in my head. Perhaps had I read the first book in the series, that might have helped me be less confused at first. Perhaps it might be wise to read, it first to avoid that. However, I do believe this mystery can stand alone and the story wasn't diminished because of the cast of characters, it was just quite a lot to take in at the start.
Having said all of that, I did enjoy this book, I didn't skip any of it and was really intrigued in parts, especially when a mystery I didn't see coming at all, unfolded almost at the end. I recommend Burglars and Blintzes as a cosy read and it has a great blintzes recipe at the end!!
Pippa runs a mystery author b&b which she inherited from her uncle. While the writers are writing their mysteries Pippa is dealing with a real-life mystery. Can Pippa solve this mystery before she finds herself in trouble?
This is the second book in the series but my first. The book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery. The characters are entertaining with their quirky personalities. The mystery is well-developed with several twists and turns. There are recipes included in the back of this book.
I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book supplied by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced by anyone.
This sounds like my kind of place. I would LOVE to visit a writers retreat at a B&B that specializes in helping a fledgling or seasoned author to write. Pippa and her crew, including her Uncle make a most hospitable respite. Who better to solve a mystery that no one knew was a mystery. The "tsunami" washed away the secret and washed up Spanish silver and the body of Uncle Hilt's friend and first missing person case. But the mystery doesn't stop there with treasure hunters and a more recent death. Pippa shows us how strong and soft of a character she is while dealing with Lake's ex who is sometimes subtly and sometimes not so subtly causing ripples of discourse which is inconvenient since she is also the town sheriff. Great story with multiple mysteries!
A bit slow at the onset (and almost too detailed descriptions of each and every mystery writer in attendance), but I hung in there and was soon hooked! While I've read other cozy mysteries set in B&Bs, this one has the interesting twist of hosting mystery writers! (A mystery dropping into the middle of a group of diverse mystery writers? How fun!) This was a quick, easy read with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end.
I didn't realize this was the second in a series - it worked quite well as a standalone.
This is book 2 in the Moorehaven Mystery series and can be read as a standalone. Moorehaven is a B&B that caters to writers and aspiring writers. They offer workshops and weekends with authors to guide the want to write person. Summer is coming to a close and the Inn is full when word is spreading about a skeleton being dug up with a pocket full of old gold coins. This brings more people to the small Oregon town. Pippa and her Uncle Hilt run the B&B and Pippa's boyfriend Lake is hired by a salvage crew to run their water operation for cave exploration. Pippa runs into conflict with the chief of police, Lake's ex wife, when it seems murder is in the air around Moorehaven Inn. Good story. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Burglars and Blintzes by Morgan C. Talbot is the second book in the Moorehaven Mystery series. Pippa is busy with the last of the season's guests at her mystery author bed and breakfast. When a skeleton is uncovered with Spanish gold, treasure hunters flock to the town. When one of her guests is found dead, Pippa blames herself and sets out to solve the mystery. This series is on the more serious side for a cozy mystery. I love the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, and the setting and characters make me wish I was a guest at the B&B. I look forward to many more books in this series.
Another excellent edition to a wonderful series! Full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting more and enjoying each moment until the end when the killer is caught.
Pippa’s gathering with her fellow author friends was an interesting one indeed, imagine enjoying the event of a tsunami no matter the size, three feet or larger as if it was a game show, now that’s a bit unsettling for me, but I know without a doubt there are others who strive on this kinda excitement. Their retreat slowly turned into a murder mystery investigation with a skeleton and a few curious Spanish coins. Interesting with mild intrigue.
A B&B for writers is the setting of Burglars and Blintzes. The writers have a mystery to solve. Entertaining and fun as it unfolds, this story is a fast light read. Perfect for a relaxing day. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
A very entertaining read! A B&B that is a writer's retreat at the shore, many potential mysteries immediately come to mind! This story had several mysteries - some small and some big - that were woven very well into the plot line. The action never stopped and I was kept guessing throughout this cozy. I look forward to more by this author in the future. I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
The nice, curious Pippa and her guests (writers) from the B&B that she runs, have to solve a strange 50 years old murder. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. Didn't noticed that it's the second book from a series, but doesn't matter, I will continue the other book too.
Thank you Netgalley for this nice ride.
A mystery with lots of twists. A B &B for authors, a 50 year old mystery and new deaths take lots of skill to try and solve. Throw in love and you'll keep turning the pages.
My initial impression of this book was that it was quite dull, but that was only in the beginning. It got a lot better and I really enjoyed it once I got into it. I found both the setting and the mystery interesting. The idea of a bed and breakfast that caters only to authors gives the author a lot of opportunities to develope interesting characters, and this novel has a whole host of them. There were a number of characters that Inwould like to know more about.
This book is definitely a cozy mystery but it doesn’t have any of the silliness that I find in a lot of recently published mysteries. The mystery had its roots in the past, but it also had ramifications for the present. It was fairly well plotted and the conclusion is plausible.
Side note, I wasn’t entirely sure what Blintzes were before I read this book, and to be honest, I’m still not sure......but I do know that I want one!
Burglars & Blintzes by Morgan C. Talbot is a second book in Moorehaven Mystery series but can be read as a standalone as well.
Not having read the first book I still had no problem following the story.
I loved the setting in this series, Oregon Pacific coast,
I loved the idea of running bed and breakfast for mystery writers which happened to be a former home of a well known mystery writer.
A fifty year old murder mystery to be solved.
A lost treasure.
I also loved recipes for mouth watering blintzes.
I pretty much loved just about everything about this book.
Pippa runs above mentioned bed and breakfast for mystery writers who soon realize that mysteries do not happen only on pages of their books but in real life as well. And one of them will find out just how dangerous it can be.
Lovable and well developed characters, Just enough suspects and just enough twist and turns to keep readers guessing. Throw in some tense family relations, second chances and old mistakes and regrets and you have a truly absorbing and gripping mystery.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did the first. I plan on reading it again and will post my true review after giving it a second opinion.
