Moorcroft is excellent at establishing an attractive location for a novel and making us feel like we want to spend time there, particularly with the engaging characters she creates. An enjoyable read for those unable to get away on their own summer escapes.
Really enjoyed this book. Great plot and engaging, believe characters. I was drawn right into the story. Would definitely recommend.
Clancy is having a terrible time with her world turned upside down. She and her fiancé are finished after catching him fooling around with a "friend" on a zoom call, she has moved out of her home that she shared with said fiancé, and she is kicked out of the startup that she, her fiancé and some other friends built together. She won't leave empty handed as they will have to pay her out, and he will have to buy her half of the home from her, but in the meantime, she needs somewhere to go and lick her wounds and figure out what to do next. Her cousin, Alice, is a half-owner in a seaside inn in need of a caretaker so Clancy packs up her things and heads off to Nelson's Bar. She finds herself in a small town on an inlet on the sea where there is no wifi, no cell phone service, nowhere to have a drink, and in a village where everyone knows one another, and their business. Alice is not well liked as she has an ex-fiancé who is not over her. He lives along with his brother, Adam, who is the co-owner of the inn, and a single father. There is a lot of on again, off again relationships, a lot of hiding and baggage, but romance prevails by the end of this story.
I haven't read a Sue Moorcroft book in awhile, but I will be searching out her backlist after this wonderful tale. The characters in this story all seemed to have some baggage they had to deal with. Broken relationships abound, but they don't give up on romance. Adam and Clancy are a couple that clearly have chemistry, but do try to fight it. She has to figure out what to do next and where her plans will take her. Each of the characters is dealing with something in this book, whether it is mental health issues, jealousy, feelings of abandonment, poor self-esteem, sexual identity, prejudice and more. Getting to know each other, helping each other and finally standing up for what they believe in helps the various characters make decisions for their future. With all the characters in this story, there are some I loved and some I would prefer to avoid completely. This story is full of surprising twists and turns, and although most of the issues were settled, I hope there will be another visit to Nelson's Bar to catch up with all the characters in this coastal village. This was a great story and I highly recommend it.
Another absolutely charming book from Sue Moorcroft. Her characters are always so relatable and you just find yourself swept up in the story. A wonderful read!
This author has a way with words that captures your attention. A great cozy mystery with an easy to follow storyline and great well-crafted characters. Quite a delight!
Clancy needs to get away from her job and exboyfriend so she moves to Nelson's bar and takes over the letting of the Roundhouse Row cottages for her cousin.
There is some history there, as her cousin was meant to marry Lee , and on the night before the wedding there had been a moment between Clancy and the groom's brother, Aaron
Now back in the little town, working closely with Aaron, will anything happen between them or will they manage to stay apart.
Nice little read for a sunny day!
Just a lovely uplifting gentle read, just what is needed at the moment! You can lose yourself in the beautiful scenery and the story full of characters. Really enjoyed, thank you.
This was such a fun read although some of it needed to read whilst covering your eyes! Clancy moved away from London as her life collapsed to Nelson’s Bar to take up a vacancy as a caretaker. As this is also the setting for Her cousin‘s wedding (Awful Alice) being abandoned this leads to some awkward situations esp as she gets closer to the abandoned groom’s brother and the family twists and turns that come from that.
Added to the family, there’s also Genevieve who is a great character that you love to hate but still want to Champion.
The situation (and topic) with Harry and Rory was very brave and although a side story; this book is worth reading for that alone.
So glad I picked this book to read - I love this author’s books.
A lovely holiday read. Sue Moorcroft writes great feel good books with lovely characters and stand out settings.
I received a digital arc of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I found it a bit confusing at first as there are quite a lot of characters to get your head around but I got stuck in to it and couldn't put it down. A really good book and I was really rooting for Aaron and Clancy throughout. You'll have to read it yourself to find out if they get their happy ending or not.
If you are after a gorgeous summer read then look no further than A Summer to Remember by Sue Moorcroft. It is set in the fictional village of Nelson’s Bar in North Norfolk and mentions many villages and towns that I know. I say know because it has to be over 30 years since I last visited the area around Hunstanton when I went on many family camping holidays.
So the story is of Clancy who is starting again in the village. The last time she was here was for her cousins’ wedding that did happen, her cousin Alice ran off before the ceremony. With this past, Clany is not sure of her welcome, some tar her with the same brush as Alice and therefore being a trouble maker, while other seem willing to realise that Clancy is not Alice.
The village and its inhabitants are a small group and this helps to keep the story on point and focusing on key characters. I like this approach as it means there is more development with the characters and a chance for me to really get to know them all.
The story is about making new starts but is also about saying goodbye to the past, Clancy has been holding on to her past through anger and it takes a while before she realises that5 this is not helpful. After all, if you are going to make a break then it has to be a clean break, luckily she has some good neighbours to help ease the transition, but there are still umps and pitfalls along the way.
This is a gorgeous summery read, it has problems with families being too protective, about vindictive and narrow-minded people but there is a wonderful balance with others who are willing to help[, to take a chance and admit when they are wrong.
A romance, a contemporary fiction with drama and passion, it makes this a very addictive read that is perfect for a summer fiction escape. I would definitely recommend it.
This was a nice little book although it did seem to go on forever! I’ve read a couple of books by this author now and, for some reason, I can never connect with them very well. It was a good story but is just personally felt like it dragged on a little bit.
Thank you Netgalley for my copy of A Summer To Remember by Sue Moorcroft.
I absolutely adored everything about this book, especially the front cover which had a lovely and summery vibe. We read the story of Clancy. Clancy has been publicly hurt and betrayed by the man she loves, not only that she is forced to leave her company that she helped to start up. I found Clancy to be one of those characters you really root for and wish for better things for her as she has been put through the mill. She decides a fresh start is what she needs and settles into a new life as a caretaker of holiday cottages owned in part by her cousin Alice. The village of Nelsons bar is a quaint coastal place in Norfolk. The description of the place is idyllic, this is the perfect place for Clancy to recover from her heartbreak. Moorcroft is a word wizard when it comes to creating characters that are warm, relatable with real emotions.
I loved reading A Summer To Remember and I was very eager to see how the story developed.
There was a lot going on in this book and I wondered at times if there could be a happily ever after for Clancy as her past was just SO messy but somehow she overcame a whole raft of obstacles that would have had a lesser woman on her knees. I liked her character, she was a real person trying to get through the best way she could.
Aaron was also very real - at first glance, a bit of a player but he had lots of layers too. Then there were Harry and Rory. I felt for the two of them.
All in all, I think this book was a good representation of village life and the complexities of 21st century living.
A good read.
4 stars from me.
I simply couldn't put this down there was so much emotion and drama in it!
Lovely setting (I've never been to Norfolk, but it's now on my list of places to visit) well-rounded, diverse characters and a solid, well-driven plot.
This is a story about new beginnings and finding time love. An absolute delight.
Lovely story with a good variety of characters. Definitely recommended to those people who enjoy this type of book.
A good read I did find it a little hard to get started but once I got going I did find it an enjoyable read and would like to read more by this another
When Clancy's life in London falls apart, she seeks to escape in a picturesque hamlet on the Norfolk coast, where she can no longer be bothered by cheating exes, cheating friends or the internet! Clancy finds herself taking a caretakers job for some holiday cottages. She is a wonderfully warm, strong, yet vulnerable and resourceful character, far more forgiving than I would be! Without giving away to much this is a beautiful summer read, with romance, a bit of sauce and a rich story. This is my first Sue Moorcroft book, but I will certainly be reading more.
Since her cousin dumped her fiance Lee at the altar Clancy has looked after the bookings for the houses they owned together in Nelson's Bar, and when she loses her job and boyfriend in one fell swoop she decides to take on the job of onsite caretaker. Lee's brother Aaron is not at all happy about the situation, Lee was devastated and the last thing he wants is reminders in the form of Clancy! Clancy's main concerns however are the remoteness of the village, it doesn't even have a mobile phone signal or wifi......... and then there is the issue of the kiss she shared with Aaron that she has never forgotten!
Another lovely book by Sue Moorcroft with a new setting and lots of great new characters, as always a warmhearted book perfect for a summer read
