A most enjoyable novel based in a small seaside village in Norfolk. Two families are the main subjects but the other villagers are involved. Thinking about it now, it could be a true story and is a tangled web to unwind, funny in parts, serious in others but it needs to be read to find out how things pan out. Someone spreads lies and upsets others but happiness can conker all. Hard to put down so sit back and enjoy this book, Sue Moorcroft at her best, looking forward to her next book.

I received an eARC from NetGalley for my honest review of A Summer to Remember

My honest opinion, It was not what I expected. It was ok. I did finish, but it was not one I rushed through. I found myself seeing where it was going and the usual love story.

Wow, an emotional rollercoaster of a story, Clancy’s life is complicated, after her fiancé declares his love for someone else, her business partners lay the blame of his infidelity at her feet ousting her. She moves to her part owned cousin’s holiday cottage as caretaker. There ensues a hectic lifestyle of complicated loves, loss & blame stories which somehow revolves around Clancy. An enjoyable read, you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Not my usual reading by any means, but the description sounded fun, so I thought I'd give it a try - and I'm glad I did. Clancy has just had her world turned upside down by those she thought of as good friends and work colleagues, not to mention her fiancé, and jumps at the chance to escape to a small Norfolk village. Taking on the role of caretaker for summer cottages belonging to her cousin and the brother of the man said cousin jilted at the altar years ago... wow, that is enough plot summary to be getting on with!

Yes, the plot was the sort of will-they-won't-they-when-will-they-finally love story that I was more or less expecting, but I loved the evocative depiction of village life and the well-written and warm characterisations of the main characters. A big plus was the fact that the story gave Clancy - and other characters - time to work through what was going on in their lives, and didn't use the story just as a means to an end for a romantic happy end.

Six years ago Clancy's cousin Alice stood up her fiance Lee on their wedding day. The repercussions of that selfish act have affected all of them to some extent, including Lee's best man and older brother Aaron.

Now, Clancy has been forced out of her home and the company she helped to build by her ex-fiance Will. Somehow he humiliated her, cheating on her in a very public way, and yet she is the one forced out. With nowhere to go, she decides to take up the vacant position of caretaker to a row of cottages part-owned by her cousin Alice and Lee's brother Aaron. Over the years whilst Alice has been globe-trotting Clancy and Aaron have corresponded about maintenance of the cottages etc and so this seems like an ideal place to regroup and lick her wounds. The tiny village of Nelson's Bar doesn't have any mobile phone coverage so it will be a complete rest from the outside world and allow Clancy to forget her heartbreak.

Aaron can't believe it when Awful Alice's cousin waltzes back into the village demanding to be the new caretaker, trouble is Alice still owns half the cottages so he doesn't have much choice. But he worries how the reminder of Alice will affect Lee, who has been very fragile since he was jilted.

Can I just say I love Sue Moorcroft's books. Always set in near-idyllic country settings, she manages to create characters with real emotions and character flaws, no-one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, just because it's the country doesn't mean there isn't bigotry or spite or angst. Even Clancy comes to realise that things aren't quite the way she originally saw them.

If you enjoy romance set in the English countryside with a side order of teen angst, family feuds, jealous exes and small businesses struggling to get by you will love this novel. Another winner form one of my favourite authors.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I'm a big Sue Moorcroft fan so it was not a surprise that I loved this book! The descriptions of the village and the characters alone, makes this read worth it! You feel as if you are in the holiday cottages themselves! This is a great summer read. If you are a fan of Cathy Bramley or Phillipa Ashley - you'll enjoy this book!
