What a delightful read. I so enjoyed watching Cassie and her four friends as they traveled across Europe. This trip was planned five years ago and now it has come to fruition. When Cassie gets separated from her friends in a Scottish Castle, she ends up in a room with Logan Reid (a highlander in a Kilt) stuck behind a wall. She ends up kissing him and that is when she remembers why he looks familiar. He is known for his internet show called Shenanigans. She won’t sign the waiver and he ends up following them to London. There is so much to this book and I felt the friendship between the friends as well as the sparks between Logan and Cassie. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press.
Sweet Funny and Hot!
This book had a fun and different meet-cute. It is sweet, funny and hot in turns. Cassie Crow is intent on her career as a journalist but looking for a fun fling with a hot kilted Scot and she sure finds that in web-video prankster, Logan Reid.
Logan who is also focused on his work can’t seem to get Cassie off his mind after their “one night stand”.
“From wall to wall, back bar to front door, the pub was packed with guys, and almost every single one of them was wearing a kilt.
“Praise Jesus,” Sadie exhaled, raising her palms to the rafters.
Bonnie’s forehead puckered. “I thought you were Jewish.”
“She is.” Ana smirked. “But she goes all holy roller when she’s horny.”
The story has tons of push and pull with both main characters trying their hardest to fight the attraction. And their groups of friends add a fun, lighter aspect to the story.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to more stories in this series.

This book was such a pleasant surprise from a new author. It was entertaining and engaging, with likable main and supporting characters. I really enjoyed Melonie Johnson's smooth and detailed writing style and I am looking forward to enjoying entire series!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Cassie goes on the vacation of a lifetime with her best girlfriends. She has a surreal moment in a castle only to find it was a set-up from a TV show. Tempted by the Scot, Logan, she has a hot night with him, but she doesn't sign the release for the footage. There's a definite spark, and he follows her to London. They have a wonderful time alone and with friends until she finds the waiver. Mad, she signs it an leaves for the USA.
Logan's in the US for a new opportunity and happens to be in the same town as Cassie. He looks her up, they make peace and start a new relationship, even spending the holidays together. She has a new job, too, and things are going well....till they don't. It will take a grand gesture to get these two together for the HEA.
Loved this story!
Cassie and Logan meet while Cassie and her friends are on a once and a lifetime vacation. What was meant to be a steamy one night thing, turns into much more. Highly recommend reading!
This book has a fun premise: girl meets possible time traveler in a Scottish Castle. In reality it is a Scottish version of "Punked" that draws our heroine, Cassie into the sphere of Logan, a fun loving Scotsman hoping to reach a bigger market. A supporting cast of best friends on a European vacation set the groundwork for a romance and a happy everafter full of Scottish dialogue and sweet moments. Melonie Johnson's debut in contemporary romance is well worth it.
I was provided an ARC of this novel for an honest review.
This book was really good and I’m surprised it’s a debut! The characters had a great voice which is key for me enjoying a novel. Also the meet cute had me thinking it was time travel romance for a moment but it was not. Loved it and would highly recommend!
Getting Hot with the Scot is book one in the Sometimes in Love series and I already can't wait for the next book. There's no denying that I love a book that has a man in a kilt and a sexy brogue. Honestly, how can you not? This was an Enemies to Lovers book filled with banter and chemistry.Cassie and her friends go on the vacation of a lifetime and one leg of their journey leads her to Scotland and right into the arms of sexy Scot, Logan Reid. It was like it was meant to be. While this vacation was something for her to do with her friends before they all went back to work and reality, Cassie had one item on her bucket list that she wanted to do while abroad. Have a fling with a sexy stranger. Who would've guessed she would meet him in a Scottish castle? Logan is more than eager to help, and one night becomes more for the both of them. The couple through some serious ups and downs, with both of them trying to further their careers and hold on to their relationship.I love that behind all the jokes, Logan hides a broken heart which colors how he sees relationships. It takes Cassie and his feelings for her to open his eyes to falling in love and let her heal his heart. Swoon. I also loved that the second book will be about Bonnie and Theo! The chemistry between the two has me doing a happy dance that they are getting their own book. The story had lots of heat, a bit of drama and conflict and a fun HEA and I can’t wait to read the next book.
Getting Hot with the Scot is the first book in the series. It was a great read. I loved it. I loved Cassie and Logan. They had amazing chemistry. I thought they were perfect together! Looking forward to reading more in this series!
I received a (ARC) copy of this book through netgalley and it delivered a hot sexy romance to be sure. I loved the five girlfriends vacation plan as a theme throughout this book. As it provides an interesting background to this story.
Cassie Crow's one wish in this vacation is to have one, hot night romance. as a remembrance, before she devotes all her time, in becoming a serious journalist. She thinks it will never be as they are on one of the last legs of their trip, Scotland. They are visiting a castle, where she gets lost and finds a passage way, where she meets a hot looking, Scottish highlander with a perfect scottish brogue (the fantasy man of her dreams). The attraction is immediate on bothsides, and they share a kiss. A kiss that was way more potent than she’d expected—. Only it turns out, the hot sexy kilted highlander is Logan Reid, a internet celebrity, pulling a prank for his internet podcast, in hopes of snagging an invitation to do a Tv series. But Cassie refuses to sign a release form. So Logan (in hopes of getting her to sign), extends an invitation for a drink, but the attraction between the two, ends them some place else. And the story begins.
This is a truly wonderful and engaging story. I have never read a story by this author but this story has changed my mind. Great story.
Getting Hot With the Scot introduces us to Cassie – a smart, ambitious pop culture reporter with plans to crack into more sober journalism. Logan fell ‘naked-behind’ first into a career creating prank internet video content. Now that he’s there, he and his sister are determined to channel clicks and views into late-night television success.
You’ve read that trope before. We all have. And we all have for a reason – that trope is delightful. Especially when you have a story that doesn’t lean on the formula so much it snaps the reader’s patience. Melonie Johnson planned for that. And while you’ll recognize it – you really don’t care because the story is just that good.
Also, something that this author should absolutely be recognized for is easy diversity in character. She doesn’t beat you over the head with it. But it’s like actual, real life. People are different, and those diversities are just a normal part of life. A lesbian is in the story, but the story of her character isn’t told through a limited lens.
I did have a difficult time getting through the first few chapters of the book. It felt thick, like there was so much info to absorb, but I wasn’t sure it was all necessary to spill upfront. Still, overall – Five Stars. I want more.
witty. Steamy. Sweet.
This book made me want to drop everything, pack my bags, and head to Scotland, to find me a man in a kilt. Seriously Logan f*cking Reid would probably make any girl rethink the whole kilt thing. Although apparently Cassie and her friends had a thing for kilts. Melonie Johnson has written an engaging story packed with an abundance of humor, steam, and love. This book had everything I love in a romcom; a likable female protagonist, a strong female friend group, and of course a hot guy with a heart of gold and a killer sense of humor.
Cassie and her besties are on a dream vacation in Europe. They are spending their last few days in the UK and Cassie has yet to fulfill her desire for a foreign fling. SO when she runs across Logan in a kilt, in a castle, she is willing to overlook certain things and throw caution (along with other things) to the wind. What transpires is a romance full of push and pull, and will they won’t they? Will Cassie and Logan be able to let their guards down and allow love into their lives?
This book was just so much fun! I loved Cassie and her friends, this was a group of girls I would love to hang out with. I also loved Logan‘s friend Theo, and I cannot wait for his story. Logan was a great guy a little selfish, but he came around. The chemistry between Cassie and Logan was pretty darn sizzling. Something I really appreciated about this book was the drama was pretty realistic, not too over-the-top, The perfect amount of angst. I really love romances with more humor than angst, I like to laugh more than cry.
Simply put this was an engaging story that left me wanting more! Cannot wait for Bonnie and Theo‘s book!
*** many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***
Sexy, sassy and sparkling, Getting Hot with The Scot is a fantastic read from a fabulous new voice in contemporary romance: Melonie Johnson.
Journalist Cassie Crow has come to Edinburgh for a girls’ trip with her friends and she is looking forward to spending some time soaking up as much culture and history as she possibly can whilst having fun with the people she knows best and trusts most in the word. Cassie hopes to find time during her trip to indulge in a no-strings sizzling affair with a perfect stranger who can whisk her off her feet, but thus far this prospect is looking rather unlikely. Cassie hasn’t had much luck in finding a temporary lover, but it looks like her luck could be about to change when she stumbles upon a kilted Highlander with a spine-tingling accent who could give Jamie Fraser a run for his money! However, she soon realizes that her Highlander is as far removed from a fictional hero as it is possible to get! Cassie’s first instinct is to give Logan Reid as wide a berth as possible, but that soon proves to be easier said than done!
Logan Reid is a professional prankster who has built a colossal following with his immensely popular Internet show, Shenanigans. Pranking people and making them look foolish on camera has made Logan a star and if he manages to get a producer interested and get a TV show on an American network, his fame could grow beyond his wildest dreams. When he manages to pull the wool over Cassie’s eyes, Logan thinks that he has managed to pull off the perfect prank. However, when he ends up kissing the beautiful American journalist, will Logan come to the conclusion that there are some things that are far more important than money and fame?
Giving into temptation soon proves inevitable for Cassie and Logan, however, the more time they spend together the more they realize that one night of passion is simply not enough. The two of them have always kept their relationships short and casual, but are they ready to take a chance on love and admit the truth about the depth of their feelings for one another? Or are they going to continue to let their fears keep them from grabbing this final chance of happiness with both hands?
A fun read that will make you giggle and fall head over heels in love, Getting Hot with The Scot is a first class contemporary romance with writing that shines, dialog that sparkles and sensuality that sizzles. Feel-good, uplifting and emotional, Getting Hot with The Scot is packed with humor, wit, sass and sex and features two richly drawn characters that leap off the pages and come to life from page one.
Cassie was a brilliant heroine. Smart, spunky and intelligent, she is a heroine it is impossible not to relate to and cheer for and if you like Scottish heroes, you are simply going to adore the gorgeous Logan.
Getting Hot with The Scot is simply irresistible and Melonie Johnson is a name to watch out for and one contemporary romance fans need to add to their auto-buy list.
Cassie Crow, a pop-culture reporter for a TV talk show, is focused on becoming a “serious” journalist. But when she stumbles into a kilted Highlander with a killer accent, Cassie decides that taking one night off from work and spending it with a sexy Scot couldn’t hurt. . .
Logan Reid has built a career on his charm, hosting a series of off-the-wall hijinks on the Web. But when the Scottish prankster meets the all-American, equal parts intelligent and irresistible Cassie, Logan realizes that one night of fun won’t be enough. Could it be that this career-focused, commitment-phobic couple is finally ready to take a chance at true and lasting love?
Loved Cassie & Logan's story! Flawlesssly written and heartfelt! This was my first book of Melonie's I've read & won't be my last!
This was not what I was expecting, coming from a new author I had never read.
It was really refreshing, loved the banter and the love.
Can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.
Enjoyable read, the story of Cassie and Logan. They meet while she ins on holiday in Scotland, and wants a holiday fling before going home to Chicago. He follows her, but he never properly lets her in, so can they have a life together
Really hoping there is a follow up book on Bonnie and Theo!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.
This is my first book from Melonie Johnson and I really enjoyed it. I felt the characters were well-developed and relatable. The chemistry between Cassie and Logan was sizzling. I loved Cassie’s relationship with Bonnie and the rest of the group. The history and bond between the women really set the stage for future books in this new stand-alone series.
This is a great book filled with fun and witty banter, sexual tension and steamy encounters, drama and angst, all driving a great romance that will leave you swooning and your heart happy.
I thought this was a fun, sexy read, and a great start to the series. I am super excited for Smitten by the Brit – Bonnie and Theo’s story! As much as I loved Cassie and Logan, Bonnie and Theo were my favorite! I’m excited to have found a new-to-me author and can wait to read more in this series and her work.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for an advanced copy of Getting Hot with the Scot. This is my voluntary and unbiased review.
Cassie Crow and four of her friends are off to Europe for a trip of a lifetime, each of them have chosen a destination they would love to visit after graduating from college and now, five years later their dream has become a reality.
Logan is a jokester, he makes his living by pranking people and uploading it onto YouTube but now he has a chance to further his career with a television show in America, and an unknowing Cassie walks right into his trap.
I haven't laughed this hard in a LOOOOONNNNGGG time! There were parts that I was afraid I would choke on the drink I was drinking or worse spit it out all over the person seated next to me. The laughs were just one part that made this book a great read, the chemistry between Logan and Cassie was the other. These two couldn't keep their hands off one another, and honestly with a man in a kilt who could blame Cassie.
This was a fun, sweet, and sexy read that had me wanting to get to know each of the secondary characters more. I am sooooo looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Great start to Melonie Johnson's debut into Contemporary Romance! Happy Reading!!!
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine's Obsessed with Books**
Favorite Quotes:
Three Weeks ago, Cassie Crow left Chicago armed with a naked charm bracelet and a full box of condoms… No longer bare, her bracelet was loaded with tiny keepsakes she’d found in shops all over Europe. The condom box, however, was still full.
Bonnie was a library whore. The mere glimpse of an old book got her more worked up than a boy-band fangirl with a front-row seat and a backstage pass.
Contrary to her fantasy version of Scotland, hunky, shirtless guys in kilts weren’t sprinkled liberally across the country.
“Shakespeare, Cass. He’s quoting Shakespeare!” Good thing her best friend had an on-the-brink -of-setting-a-date fiancé back home, otherwise Cassie was pretty sure Bonnie would have climbed Logan like a tree and made him her personal Scottish jungle gym.
My Review:
I knew I was in for a treat when the first sentence already had me smirking. I believe I read most of the book while sporting a delighted smile. This lively tale was brimming with irreverent humor, sassy banter, and clever wit. Each character was endearingly and distinctly drawn with unique traits and odd little quirks that kept me curious and eager to learn more about them. I was knocked out of my favorite pair of red crocs when noticing this well-crafted story was the author's debut publication. Her writing style was fresh, crisp, and unfailingly engaging with steamy and heart squeezing storylines as well as highly humorous ones. And it was brilliant casting to feature a devilishly sexy and mischievous ginger who spoke with a Scottish burr and owns his own kilt… Logan was irresistible.
I hit the mother load in Scottish Words to add to my British Isle’s Word List with
fearty cat – chickenhearted; clatty – slovenly; bampot - Scottish slang for idiot; fashed – bothered or annoyed; fouter - of no value; winching – kissing with tongue; clootie dumplings – a dessert; guffy – someone whose behavior is annoying or getting on your nerves; shavie - a joke or prank; bridies - meat pastry; Hogmanay – Scottish New Year’s Eve; and first-footing – the Scottish custom of going house to house visiting friends for food and drink on New Year’s Eve. Clatty and fearty cat are my current favorites.
