Well, this book was a bit unexpected for me. When I first started reading it, I had a hard time getting into it. I started and stopped the book a couple of times, and decided I really wasn’t in the mood for a simple cute story about a holiday fling with very little depth. However, I kept coming back to the book and must say that it had a lot more going for it than I initially thought. The storyline and the emotions definitely got deeper the second half of this story, and I am so glad I stayed with it. Logan and Cassie’s relationship took a deeper turn after the European holiday. That is when the book became a really good story for me. I will say I am actually looking forward to the next books in this group of friends.

This was a cute book, with themes of hurt/comfort and reinventing your life. The writing was good, too. I liked Cassie’s fierce determination and her willingness to forgive, and eventually I understood Logan’s quirkiness as well. My complaint with the book was that Ms. Johnson was trying to introduce enough characters to build a series, and it was not done smoothly. Five women go on the vacation of a lifetime, 5 years after graduating college (how are they making enough, and how could they take 6 weeks off?). I kept getting them confused because they pretty much all sounded alike, and there were so many unnecessary scenes that were there just so we’d get to know them a little. Eventually, the author gives up on two of them and sent them off shopping whenever something was happening. This all combined to make the first 2/3 of the book move very slowly. Once Cassie got back home, things picked up and got pretty interesting. The ending was wonderful. This was a good commuting book, as I could put it down and take it back up again later without feeling too worried about the characters in the meantime. I’m going on to read Bonnie’s story, because I really want to know how she and Theo will surmount their obstacles. I received an advance copy in return for my honest review.

Cassie Crow, a pop-culture reporter for a TV talk show is having the holiday of a lifetime with her four friends. They have been travelling around Europe & now find themselves in Edinburgh. Whilst at the Castle Cassie becomes lost & stumbles across a kilted Highlander with a killer accent, Cassie decides that taking one night off from work and spending it with a sexy Scot couldn’t hurt after all a certain packet is burning a hole in her suitcase. Logan Reid has built a career on his charm, hosting a series of off-the-wall hijinks on the Web. Their first encounter sizzles & they agree to meet later.
Contemporary romances aren’t my favourite genre but I thoroughly enjoyed this feel good novel. Well written & very well paced. The characters are well fleshed. Logan & Cassie’s attraction sizzles & I loved how their relationship developed from a chance encounter & that kiss, to a one night stand that was never going to be enough. The secondary characters were also very likeable & I hope all of their friends have their stories. The road to Logan & Cassie’s HEA was very entertaining, hot & quite captivating – my first by the author & it certainly won’t be the last, I thoroughly enjoyed it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Cassie and Logan’s love story was a moving and wonderful adventure in Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson, book one in her Sometimes in Love series. Cassie was on a trip of a lifetime with her four closest friends; spending six weeks traveling across Europe. In their next to last location of Scotland, Cassie becomes separated from her friends inside a castle and is directed to an entrance that is supposed to be to the library. Once inside she discovers a kilter Highlander with an amazing accent. Recognizing the man as Logan Reid, a Scottish internet star who stages pranks for a show called “Shenanigans”, finding innocent people to do embarrassing things. On a lark and a dare, Cassie kisses the Scot, Logan, which is all caught on film. Unfortunately for Logan, Cassie refuses to sign the release forms so he can use the remarkable clip. What starts off as an innocent pursuit, Logan follows after Cassie, knowing that one kiss and one fun night with Cassie was not going to be enough. Logan is offered a television deal which is too good to pass up. What made it more desirable is the fact that filming would occur in Chicago, the same city where Cassie was a journalist, working on a morning show. Spending time together only intensifies the attraction and sparks between these two. Cassie and Logan need to decide if they can overcome their career-focus and commitment phobia enough to take that chance on true and forever love.

Ms. Johnson wrote a wonderful and amazing tale that was emotional, and moving, filled with sexual chemistry, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters that is must read. I totally loved this story about Cassie and Logan finding their true and forever love. I loved the way Cassie helped Logan deal with his anger at the death of his da (father) and Logan even had some awesome tricks up his sleeve in showing Cassie how he truly loved her and was miserable while they were taking a break. I highly recommend Getting Hot with the Scot to other readers and look forward to Ms. Johnson’s next book in this series.

May I say I love a man with a Kilt? Oh this book was a fun, breezy, sexy, with a witty dialogue and naugthy times but done in tasteful way. At first I must admit that I thought I was reading a time traveling romance story, I even stopped and looked for the description and realize it was in the present time.

Cassie Crow is on a trip vacation in europe with her best friends when she meets Logan, but their meeting is not your typical meet cute because there's a prank involved and in the end of it both get more that they were bargain for and the story of this two begins.

I loved it, as I say above is fun reading that helps you decompress and make you enjoy your classic romance and the good thing is that it makes you laugh along the way.

Did I say i love Logan and he's accent? Dear lord everytime I read his parts I could hear that killer accent in my head.

Also Cassie is a very relatable character, you know the struggle of wanting more in the professional field and also that in her vacation wanted to have that wild night, though we know that her one night stand thing totally back fire.

I can't really get into much into the plot because it would spoil you the read but I can say that I was satisfied of the outcome of their misunderstandings because is written in a very believable way.

So Melonie won me with this book and I can't wait to read the followings in the series (Yes I see youd Bonnie and Theo!)

This book was sent to me via netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

For a single woman a fling on your European vacation could be one of the top rated events. Cassie and her friends are taking Scotland and England by storm. It's while on a tour of a castle that Cassie takes a wrong turn and ultimately ends up on Logan's show - unbeknownst to her.

There's something about this Cassie woman Logan is attracted to....and it's not just a release for the rights to air their Highlander episode. The pull toward her leads him and his friend to England just to spend more time with her.

Now here's one of the cool parts of their story - after they part from one another in Europe he's sent to Chicago, where Cassie lives, for a TV show. Why not continue their time together?

What I like about this couple is there're not afraid to talk about any and everything - eventually. There's some hidden things that do come out during the book but it isn't a struggle. There is one incident in the book that I don't think I ever read what called the catastrophe in the first place. I have a good idea though. It's called alcohol.

All in all Logan and Cassie have a great time together and they enjoy each others company. This book is a sweet romance with a couple of bumps in the road. If you enjoy these type stories this book will tickle your fancy.

I’ve gotten into the bad habit of reading books without completely reading the blurb – sometimes not even reading it at all. So, when I got to the scene that suggested we were about to be in for a time travel romance, my only thought was “oh no, what have I gotten myself into?” I learned quickly that what I’d gotten into was a complex emotional roller-coaster ride that swung me from hysterical giggles to nearly bawling my eyes out. Cassie is a driven professional woman who’s very aware that her reputation can make or break her media career. If Logan weren’t so mischievous, he’d be the perfect brooding Gothic hero; complete with personal tragedy he hasn’t recovered from. These pair of opposites strike sparks off each other from the first moment we see them together, and then ever moment after that. Their chemistry is incendiary, and it pulled me deep into their story. I was quickly invested in trying to figure out how it could possibly work out. Now I’m hooked on the stories of these women and I can’t wait to see how they all get their happy ever afters.

I will admit that the draw for me with this book was the great title…and the idea of a hot redhead in a kilt! (Hello, Jamie Fraser fan here!) As everyone reading this blog knows, I love romantic suspense and my usual cover appetite involves hot guys with guns so this one is not one you would think I would pick. But the cute cover sucked me in along with the description, so I decided to give it a try!

Cassie Crow is on the trip of a lifetime to Europe with her best friends and along with the usual tourist activities, her goal is to have a vacation fling. Somehow she has made it through 4 different countries without finding the one until she runs into a hot Highlander inside Edinburgh Castle. While she at first wonders about his sanity, she decides to take the opportunity at hand and plants a hot kiss on him. Only after the kiss ends does she recognize that instead of a time-traveling Highlander, she has kissed a known internet prankster, Logan Reid. She also realizes that the entire meeting was a set up for one of his pranks and refuses to sign the release Logan and his sister Janet need to air the footage.

What she doesn’t know is that Logan is trying to land a new late-night talk show and he needs this footage to help him get the deal. He decides to do everything he can to change her mind and asks her to meet him for a drink that night with her friends. Cassie however is determined not to sign and after a loaded game of 20 Questions, decides to check off the one thing she has yet to accomplish on this trip. Their first encounter is scorching hot, and leaves them (and us!) wanting more! The rest of the book is a delightful romp through London and eventually Chicago, Cassie’s hometown and where the studios for Logan’s possible new show are located. This coincidence allows for more hot encounters and fun interactions between them and even some sadness because what is a romance without some heart stomping angst? (One of my favorite themes!)

While the story wasn’t perfect, the characters are fun and relatable, so I would definitely recommend this book for rom-com or contemporary romance fans. You will also get to meet the hero of the next book in the series Theo, and I’m looking forward to his match up with Cassie’s best friend Bonnie!!

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the chance to read the first 3 books early, keep an eye on this blog for those upcoming reviews!

Wonderful slow-burn romance!

Cassie and Logan have the kind of chemistry that's hard to ignore, but their careers are steadfastly in the way. Their romance is destined to burn as hot as a firecracker, and burn out just as quickly.

Their London vacation time is the stuff of fantasy romance, and it's exquisitely done. All but extinguished by the ending even they saw coming, their romance gets a post-vacation resurrection that forces both characters to get right to the heart of the matter.

I loved every page of this epic romance, loved getting to know her friends and his family, and loved the two-steps-forward-one-step-back pacing of their romance. Nothing is easy in love, but this beautiful story shows that it's well worth fighting for. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Content warnings: [fatphobia and thinphobia (a minor character is a model so we get both sides of the coin), death of a parent (during childhood)]

I’m not a big fan of Scottish or highlander romances, but the cover was so gorgeous and the blurb so intriguing that I had to read it. While I had some issues with it, overall this is a light, funny, and enjoyable read.

While wandering off on a tour of a Scottish castle, Cassie stumbles upon a man done up in Highlander gear – and ends up kissing him. Turns out it’s part of a skit meant to boost the female viewership of Logan’s internet show. If Logan can show that he can attract that demographic, he’s basically guaranteed a show on a major US network. But Cassie refuses to sign the waiver, fearing it would compromise her job as a reporter back in Chicago, leading Logan to basically hunt her down. One thing leads to another, and soon Logan’s questioning which is more important – his electric chemistry with Cassie, or the waiver.

“Cassie thought what she’d wanted was a one-night stand, had believed the experience of a hot night of foreign action would fill that place in her that, for years, had sat waiting, wanting more . . . needing more. But tonight, this perfect shining jewel of a night with Logan, this was what she’d been waiting for. This was the souvenir she’d craved, and the memory she would keep with her always.”

My absolute favorite thing about Cassie was that she was a romance reader herself. I also liked Cassie’s career-mindedness, and I really enjoyed all the parts related to that and how she was trying to go from covering “fluff” to more serious topics. Her tenacity was another trait I admired, especially how she turned a bad situation into a win for herself. On the complete opposite spectrum, Logan’s a prankster at heart, and that, and his love for his family, was rather endearing to me. It also makes him a bit of a Peter Pan, though, willing to live in the now and ignore the future, and that includes things like making commitments. Despite good reasons for his “seize the day” mentality, he was, at times, so seriously dismissive of Cassie’s feelings that I had a hard time with him. Those reasons also made him desperate to prove himself with his show, a trait he shared with Cassie that led to their main conflict.

“Maybe that was what Cassie needed to find—a hearty meal to sustain her, one with enough spice to keep things interesting. A relationship with a man she could look to build a life with, not a fling with a sexy Scot who had the potential to screw up her plans before she even got the chance to execute them.
Logan wasn’t an appetizer—he was dessert—sweet and sinful and totally bad for her.”

And that’s where my main issue with the book comes in. While I felt like their conflict was very realistic – who hasn’t had to deal with career vs relationship? – I felt like they did a poor job communicating about it. Neither person had much previous experience with romantic relationships, and it really showed. Logan was reluctant to tell Cassie exactly why he’s so desperate to get that particular clip on the air, and Cassie also didn’t seem willing to explain why that would be so bad for her career (though, for that part, I think Logan would’ve understood immediately if he hadn’t been so immature). I just wanted them to sit down and talk it out, and by the time they actually did, it was the end of the book. It felt a bit like they were going around in circles, and it made parts of the book move pretty slowly for me.

I also had a minor quibble with the whole premise behind the book. The multi-country trip is a result of a decade-old pact by a group of friends from college. The five friends all agreed to take a trip five years after graduating college to five European countries. The, well, upper-class-ness of this was a bit eyebrow-raising for me. How many people in their late twenties are able to take that much time off from work, let alone afford the contemporary equivalent of a grand tour? Oh, also, due to one of the friends’ family connections, they get to stay for free in a series of posh hotel suites. I think most readers will appreciate the escapist quality of it all, but it added a layer of disconnect for me.

While the trip didn’t sit well with me, I did enjoy the secondary characters. Logan’s family was a high point of the book for me, especially Janet. I also liked Cassie’s friends, though I’ll be honest – I kept getting them confused. I think this is an effect of having so many characters that need to be introduce, since it is the first in a series. There were times, though, that I was almost more interested in Cassie’s friend Bonnie and Logan’s friend Theo (and all The Little Mermaid jokes), who are, naturally, the starring couple in the next book.

Overall, while I did enjoy the book, the communication issues were a problem for me, enough to drop it down a star. If that’s not something that bothers you, I think you’re going to a have a great time with this book. Despite that, I’m very interested in the next book, especially since Bonnie and Theo are the next couple!

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Author Melonie Johnson’s romantic début comedy is a fun summer poolside novel that reads like a modern-day fairy tale and therein lies its charm. Getting hoots of laughter out of me, the serious touch woven into the story I found thought-provoking. That being said, I had trouble getting into the book to begin with but this minor setback didn’t spoil my overall enjoyment!

While on the last leg of her holiday with a group of friends from across the pond, American lass, Cassie Crow bumps into a Scotsman whose cheeky grin is to die for. And although Logan Reid’s sense of humour is second to none, his mischievous acts are, to say the least, outrageous. Nonetheless, this doesn’t put the blockers on their sizzling chemistry that’ll steam up the screen of your e-reader!

In Scottish lingo ‘randy’ means rude. But there’s nothing crass about Cassie and in the literal sense of the word, she’s game for a summer sexapade if the occasion with Mr. Right arises. So, her mission to scratch that itch takes a turn for worst when she’s caught red-handed in an embarrassing situation. However, the excitement of being in bonny Scotland and an even bonnier Scotsman all kilted up to the nines might just be the answer. Can she live down what happened to her though? She’s come prepared and saving the ahem...protection for the big day and to be honest with you, I couldn’t wait for her to crack the box open!

Sometimes, Cassie’s persona came across to me as naïve and overly forgiving. The reason I say this is because a couple of Logan’s wrongdoings irritated me no end, making me want to give him a good Kindle slap. It did; however, seem to give a more dramatic feel to the read. Both have some serious issues to deal with which to my liking, could have been addressed more. On a scale of one to ten book heroes’ rating, I’d give Logan a six and a half since I thought he could have been a bit more chivalrous at times.

Despite not being a huge fan of third-person narrative, the huge plus for me was how Johnson pulled off the Scottish accent so well. Getting Hot With The Scott is fairly well-paced and very character driven. It makes sense that thought had been put into Cassie’s friends’ personalities as some of them will soon be getting their own books in this stand-alone series. Plenty of banter between the gals kept me amused and the ending was delightfully surprising. A definite recommendation for a lazy weekend or summer escape reading.

GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT by Melonie Johnson is book One in the Sometimes in Love Series. This is the story of Logan Reid and Cassie Crow.
Cassie is a reporter for Entertainment and Pop Culture but wants her boss to see her as something more serious in the reporting field. While on a trip with her friends she happens to meet Logan in Scotland at the chemistry is off the charts which leads to a few hot days. But Logan does pranks that are successful and has made a name for himself doing them So at first along with the attractions he is thinking she would be a good subject for him. But of course it isn't something that Cassie would want since she is looking to make her professional profile more serious.
This was a easy fun romance read. I hope to read more from this author.

Cassie Crow is a presenter for a pop culture talk show. She doesn't have time to take much of a break from her job and definitely doesn't have time for a relationship. She and her girlfriends have been planning a getaway for years that will take them to different countries.

When the time for trip comes, they are all excited. Melonie Johnson starts this series off with the mention of Cassie's charm bracelet. I loved the idea of collecting a charm per country as a souvenir.

Cassie meets a hot Scot, Logan Reid, after a wrong turn. This part was the only part in the book I found a bit slow, I enjoyed all the whiskey tasting scene and found that Cassie and her friends all have their distinct personalities which were kept alive during the novel.

Logan works on an Internet joke show and he and Cassie seem like they won't click at first but feelings are on overdrive and one thing leads to another. Cassie has wanted a lot of things in life but has never found "The One" due to her work commitments. She has a bucket list for the trip and the only thing left is to have a holiday romance.

As things develop with Logan, one night turns into another and the heat is on.

A romantic, realistic fast-paced romance that I finished in a day and I have to say I was hooked! The atmosphere was well described and I could really feel the friends' excitement about the trip. I liked how they all got on and were supportive but also wanted a laugh together. Prepare yourself for some pretty hot scenes between Cassie and Logan.

Melonie Johnson is a new author for me, and Getting Hot with the Scot is the first in the Someetimes in Love series. I was impressed by this brilliant, fun debut with excellent flow and have the other teo books on my TBR list.

The way Melonie Johnson writes is an easy lid-back style that keeps you hooked and the romance is hot and sweet. She perfectly represents how. group of friends on a once-in-a- lifetime trip would act and we are lured straight into the book which was a great way to start. I have a feeling I'll be opening this eARC time and time agin!

Thanks to Melonie Johnson and St Martin's Press for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review and my blog tour slot for this title. I highly recommend this and it is more enjoyable than other Scotland- based romances I have reviewed lately. And what an ending! But then you'll have to read the book to find out more :) I love books about romance and travel and loved accompanying Cassie and her friends as well as Cassie and Logan on their respective journeys.

5 stars.

I will admit my shameless attraction to accents is the whole reason I wanted to read this book. I didn't even read the blurb because...well, I'm that easy. (Snicker)

Getting Hot with the Scot was an easy one-click. My need to be entertained by a wicked accent and a gorgeous guy was met all in the title. But what you don't get from the title is the world tour tease for all of the other classes on this trip. You don't catch the intense heat, naughty fun, and sweet story that develops. So now you have to read it!

The best part is...there's more coming! Melanie Johnson has other stories from this group and even our friend the Duke...

I was asked to review this book in exchange for a free copy. I was not familiar with this author but the blurb caught my attention. That being said, I am really glad I took the chance. I just adored this book. I found myself laughing out loud, swooning and just loving the entire ride. Perfect start for a brand new author! She has a fan in me!

Cassie Crow and her 4 best friends are heading to Europe on the vacation of a lifetime! She has a bucket list to fulfill and one of those is a one night stand with a not guy. Cassie was expecting to find her man in Paris, but instead she stumbles on to a hot Scotsman in a kilt while touring Edinburgh Castle. What she didn't realize was that the whole encounter was being filmed for a website called Shenanigans and the hot male was web host Logan f***ing Reid.

Logan Reid is a typical charming playboy but something about Cassie catches his eye. When he realizes that he needs to get her permission to post the video of the two of them he sees this as his chance to get to know Cassie better. After spending the night with Cassie, Logan didn't realize that he would feel a strong connection to the American beauty. Deciding that he needs more time with Cassie, Logan convinces his best friend, Theo Wharton to meet up with him in London.

As Cassie and Logan spend more time together, they both quickly realize that there is more to their feelings than either of them ever expected but how could they possibly have any type of relationship with living so far apart. These two will have to set their priorities straight in order to finally get to their happy ending but boy was it worth it! I just adored Cassie and Logan. They were both so career oriented that neither of them were even thinking of being in a relationship. I also just loved all of their friends and I can't wait read the rest of their stories!

Cassie and her closest friends are finishing up their three-week European vacation, and while she’s been collecting charms for her bracelet, she hasn’t used any of the condoms she packed in hopes of having a hot European affair. That all changes after getting lost at a whiskey tasting in a historical Scottish castle, where she finds herself part of a hidden camera/prank tv show. The host, Logan, pretends to be an out-of-time highlander and she gets sucked in. She kisses him before realizing she knows he’s the host of the show. After she realizes what happened, she refuses to sign the release waivers, and Logan, determined to make his internet show a reality TV show in America, goes after her.

Getting Hot with the Scot is a fun romantic comedy with a frienemy-to-lovers undertone. Logan and Cassie share an intense attraction that leads to several steamy encounters before she heads home to Chicago. And while the need for Cassie to sign the waiver plays in Logan’s mind, he can’t bring himself to ask her to do it, finding himself having too much fun with her. Of course, the truth eventually comes out, leading to the first conflict split, but then, through a complete twist of fate, the pair find themselves together in the States when Logan’s program gets picked up for a television show.

Though predictable at times, I enjoyed the story and found genuine sentiment written into the characters. The conflict that caused a significant wedge near the climatic scenes of the book was heartfelt and tugged on my emotions. I liked that the characters worked out their issues, even with off-the-handle initial reactions.

With that said, I felt both characters were immature, and it rubbed me the wrong way at times. It is partially due to the volume of alcohol they each consume, which at times, leads to some stupid decisions. But other times, each just reacts immaturely to situations. One example that really highlights this is the morning after their first sexual encounter, Cassie runs and hides in the bathroom, leaving a naked Logan to deal with her roommate Bonnie. By the end of the book, the characters did undergo some growth, but I feel like each is more a work-in-progress than reaching a new level of maturity.

Overall, Hot with the Scot is a quick, easy read. I liked Cassie and Logan together as a couple, even though I had a few issues with the characters as individuals. The book does a good job setting up the next romance, Smitten with the Brit, coming out at the end of May 2019.

My Rating: B- Liked It, but I had a few small issues

A cute, quick to read rom-com. Heavy on the steam but I didn't mind it. Loved the characters & looking forward to the next two in the series!

This was really cute! I didn't really know what to expect, but the synopsis sounded interesting so I took a chance. I'm so glad that I did! I read it in a day and couldn't wait to read the next in the series. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was spot-on and Cassie's relationship with her friends was believable.

Getting Hot with the Scot is a fun, lighthearted romantic comedy that left me with a huge smile on my face. There is a ton of humor and witty banter in this one that makes it a joy to read. I enjoyed the author's writing style and character development so I will definitely be looking for more from her. In this story we have Cassie Crow, an American on vacation in Scotland. She only has one thing on her "to do" list and Logan Reid is the perfect Scot to help her complete it! Don't miss their story, I highly recommend it.

4 1/2 Sexy Scot Stars!

Cassie and 4 of her friends are on a holiday they have been planning for years. They each picked a European country that they would visit. While in Scotland, Cassie gets caught kissing a hot highlander in a kilt ... on tape ... on a prank show. And the hot scot that knocked her socks off when he kissed her ... yeah, it's his show. Logan needs one good prank that will get him that TV show in the US ... and he just pranked a hot brunette that will get him there. Now all he needs to do is get her to sign the release that she's refusing to sign. The only problem is that he likes her ... really likes her and wants more of those hot kisses ... well and lots of other things too.

This book made me laugh out loud at the shenanigans that Cassie and her friends get into while on their holidays. And WOW ... I could just feel the electricity between Cassie and Logan! Logan ... sigh ... he's the sexy scot that lives in every woman's dreams. The first half of the book was all fun and games, but the second half had some serious drama that broke my heart. A great story that shouldn't be missed! I can't wait for the next book.
