So, many of us fortunate enough to receive ARC copies of books do so not quite knowing what we will get with unknown authors we’ve never read, some are not so great, but some are so incredibly awesome we wonder where the author has been all our lives! I gotta say, Melonie Johnson just knocked my socks off with this book Getting Hot With the Scot. I loved the wit, sass, incredible humor, steamy hotness that completely jumps off the page at you, very well written, and a group of friends that make you wish you had girlfriends like that in your life. Cassie was closely matched with her hot Scot Logan., and I’ve got to tell you, there’s something that just does it for me when it comes to Scotsman and British gents. Theo and Bonnie were really two of the best friends Cassie and Logan could have, loved the banter when it came to these friends. Loved the trip through Edinburg and London, just really made it feel like you were right there with all of them. I adore books that take you through a range of emotions, laughter definitely being one of them, but you definitely needed the tissues at the end of this one, just loved this book. I definitely plan to add this book to my paperback library, and you better believe I’m going to be reading the next book this author writes! Awesome read!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

With a fling on her mind and liquor in her belly, when Cassie sees this hot, hot, hot guy in a kilt with the best Scottish accent ever, her mind just naturally leaps to the most logical conclusion: He’s a warrior from long ago, a Highland hero sent forward in time to find his true love, obviously Cassie. Getting Hot with the Scot takes off with this hilarious start and never slows down. The time-traveling warrior? Not so much, more like a practical joke at Cassie’s expense. But the fling? Oh, yeah, that’s gonna happen. And after that comes a sweet, sexy, swoon-worthy story about two people who love to fling but who might also be developing other feelings. It’s a fun romp through Europe with some truly outrageous, laugh-out-loud moments and some incredible tenderness. Love is in the air, but can it last and can it survive separation?
Getting Hot with the Scot is a delightful start to what promises to be a favorite series. The writing is excellent, far above the typical chick lit. The supporting characters are fun and funny, with depth and interesting personalities and quirks and I want to be best friends with all of them. The plot moves quickly, with a satisfying conclusion and just enough of a peek into the next story to make me want to read it right now.
Thanks to St. Martin's Paperbacks and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of Getting Hot with the Scot for me to read and review. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

I loved Getting Hot with the Scot. I couldn't resist that fun title and the book was entertaining and clever. The two main characters had a lot of chemistry and I enjoyed going along for the ride--literally--as they traveled to two countries and found their happily ever after. Cassie's friends were all interesting personalities in their own right. This was just a good story that had some humor and was a great read as an escape from daily life. I recommend it!

Getting Hot with the Scot is a whirlwind roadtrip romance with a just-a-fling beginning and a swoonworthy hero. Reader, I loved it.
Here are the three keys to getting the most out of your GHWTS experience:
Have a snack. There's a scene with clootie dumplings and cream that will make you hungry. Like, I hate fruitcake but still want this in my face.
Ignore the hero's name. Yes, he's an internet video prankster named Logan, but he is nothing like Logan Paul.
Picture said hero as a ginger Richard Madden, since that's what Melonie Johnson suggests herself. Google image search him. Or just watch "Richard Madden Reads Thirst Tweets." You can thank me later.
Okay, now that's out of the way, let's talk about the book. I'm not in a great place to critically analyze it since I'm sitting here in happy book bliss, but I will try.
There's a bit of a deception plot, since the hero meets the heroine during a prank. (He's in a kilt in a castle and they end up kissing... on film.) He's trying to get her to sign off on airing the clip so he can secure a television contract. This is handled well, and he's not a jerk. There's some miscommunication but it's short-lived, but I know this can be a deal-breaker for some. I'm usually one of those people, but I was fine here.
On the other side is a book full of banter and female friendship, plus traveling around London and various eateries. While some books struggle to balance the heroine's relationships with her friends and coworkers with the central romantic relationship, Johnson managed it well. Cassie is fun to be around, and I kind of want her friends to be my friends. (Logan's friend Theo and Cassie's friend Bonnie are the couple in the next book, Smitten by the Brit.)
While the romance starts as a holiday fling (complete with wall sex), it evolves into a relationship that I believe can go the distance. Not just because they want to screw each others' brains out, but because they can laugh together and seem to be genuine friends. The whole thing is charming, and I look forward to reading the next two.

An amazing female character with great friendships and throw in a hot Scot.. what could be better? Not too much in my opinion. I really enjoyed this book it was entertaining and engaging. The story flowed well and was nicely put together. Highly enjoyable. Would recommend.

I love books with strong female friendships, and Melonie Johnson delivers that in the Sometimes in Love series. These women clearly care a lot about each other, and it's empowering.
Of course I'm going to love Cassie - she's a romance reader! Though Ana is probably my favorite among Cassie and her group of friends, and I'm more of a Bonnie... I want to be friends with these girls, haha. That's one of my indicators of a great book - if you find yourself wanting to hang out with the main character. I'd definitely hang out with Cassie. She's so smart and savvy, and I love her ideas for a segment of social change in her morning TV show.
Logan is hilarious and adorable. I love that he has his fair share of issues he's got to work through, but they don't make him an alpha-hole (like so many leading men with issues seem to be...) His relationship with his mom is so cute, but I do wish there'd been some more story there with his sister, Janet. It seemed like there might be with the references to him calling her (or not calling her), but then that line of possibly story just sort of... disappeared.
I got to the 72% mark of this book and everything was going so well... TOO WELL. Do you ever have that happen, where you get to a spot in your romance novel that feels like the HEA must be a page turn away, and then you notice you still have a whole third of the book left to go? There is a feeling of IMPENDING DOOM. And sure enough, doom descends. (I was secretly glad, because I wasn't ready for this book to end!)
This is the first book in the Sometimes in Love series, and can be read as a stand alone. There is also some delicious set up for the next book in the series, Smitten by the Brit, which is about Cassie's BFF Bonnie and Logan's friend Thomas. I'm probably most looking forward to Ana's book, which I'm guessing will be book 4 in the series as the third book, Once Upon A Bad Boy, looks like it will be about Sadie.

I believe this is Melonie's debut book. If that is the case she has certainly found her calling. This is an exceptionally well written book, one you would automatically guess a well seasoned author penned.
This is a cute holiday romance book. Cassie and her friends are on the trip of a lifetime. Being in different parts of the world, she has challenged herself to have a holiday fling. Her holiday is almost over when she literally stumbles upon Logan. I thought their introduction was super unique - I loved it!!
Their relationship hits the ground running, but it is not all smooth sailing. Secrets and lies dog them the whole time. Then there is Logan's aversion to the whole happily ever after...
Can't wait to read Smitten By The Brit.

***3 Stars***
This was one of those books that I decided to give a go because it looked like it would be, at the very least, a fun read and I’d possibly find a new author whose writing I would like and want to read more of, and overall that did happen. I ended up liking the book, but not loving it as much as I’d hope, but enough to where I did want to pick up the next in the series and see what was going to happen with some of the secondary characters we’d met during the story.
Now, part of the reason that this one falls on the ‘like’ shelf is that I never really connected with Cassie and Logan. Both were good people and I actually loved that they were so motivated when it came to their respective careers and wanting more for themselves, but I needed more of them and just didn’t feel like I had a good handle on who they truly were. So, you can imagine that lack of connection carried over into their “romance”. The smexy between them was hot, I mean there was no doubt that they click on a physical level, but the lack of true communication between them kinda did me in. Logan wouldn’t open up and Cassie preferred to run instead of talking things out and it just got boring. Their big blowout wasn’t unexpected, and I honestly didn’t have an issue with it, but the lack of grovelling and easy forgiveness ~ just left me needing more.
But while Cassie and Logan didn’t really do it for me, their friends and family did. I loved Logan’s mom (she is kinda everything) and sister, even though there were moments where I wanted to Gibbs smack Janet and I really want more of Theo (so, YAY, he’s up next) but it was Cassie’s girl squad that gave this book life for me. Bonnie, Delaney, Ana and Sadie were a lot of fun and I loved how they all rallied around each other ~ for better or worse, depending on the situation ~ and I’m totally looking forward to getting to know them all better.
As I said in the beginning, I really wanted to love this book, but it just didn’t grab me in the way I wanted it to in the romance department. It happens and falls under the ‘any given day’ and ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ realm, but the fact that the secondary characters intrigued me ~ well, I’ll take for a win and will be checking out the next book in the series and see where that one takes me.

I was sent this ARC by the publisher with the understanding that I would read the book and provide an unbiased review.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I picked up this book, but I knew I had been reading rather heavy and profound stories before and was ready for a change of pace. This book fit the bill perfectly. It was cute, quirky, and had great characters. I'm already looking forward to the next installment!

I flew through this entire series on vacation and they were perfect beach reads! They are light romance novels but not silly. The sex scenes are descriptive but not overly graphic. I loved the European setting - perfect for romance! I was a little wary of the whole "viral video star" thing because I thought it would be super cheesy but the author incorporated it in a way that made it seem somewhat realistic. Definitely an enjoyable read for the summer!

This was my first read by Melonie. I was surprised by the level of steam this book has! Well, the meet cute moment between Logan and Cassie was actually kind of different. It actually made me disliked Logan for a bit afterwards. This story was a bit too long for me in which some parts dragged. Also, I have to say there were A LOT of characters in this book, that it was sorta getting me confused. It seems all of Cassie's friends are getting their own books. The next 2 in the series do sound good, and I'll be there for the ride.
I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I loved Getting Hot with the Scot. It is such a cute read. Cassie and her friends make me want to take a European vacation. You will love these ladies. The last 2 stops in Scotland and London with them is so fun. I love how Cassie and Logan meet. They have such chemistry that you can't help but to fall for them. Logan may be a prankster at times but he has this amazing heart too. I love Logan and Cassie together. I can't wait for more to come in this series. Melonie Johnson did a fabulous job and I plan on going back for more of her work. Go click this one now.

If you love Scotland, Outlander, Harry Potter and Happily Ever After's, you need to read Getting Hot with the Scot! The story had me laughing from the start. A fun fast read that any book lover of historical romance, travel and comedies will love. Dive in for laughs, love, and swoon worthy romance!

I had a hard time getting into this book. I didn't find the story to keep me interested .
The story was ok but not something I would read again.

I found this book to be well written and enjoyable. I applaud the author for giving the heroine the gumption to go after her dreams and for making it seem real. I felt that Cassie Crow, the main character, was easy to relate to/identify with. She's trying to break into "hard" journalism for the TV studio that she works at. She is the face of ChiChat "fluff pieces"; a weekday morning show in Chicago. She and three of her college friends made a pact to travel Europe five years after graduation and that's where Cassie meets the "hot Scot"; Logan Reid.
The characters are 3 dimensional and well developed; you can feel their emotions as you read the story. The surroundings/settings pretty much take a back-seat to the story as it is character driven. All-in-all a good book.

I absolutely adored this book. Cassie Crow is an American reporter on a European vacation with her four best friends. Logan is a Scottish prankster filming a skit when he meets Cassie. I could feel their chemistry immediately and Cassie and Logan were both very likable so I was hooked from the beginning. This story is told from a dual POV which I love. Melonie Johnson's writing style was perfect for this story. I cannot wait to read the stories of the rest of Cassie's friends!

I was in a reading slump for a week. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to read anything anytime soon. So, I looked through my list and Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson caught my eye. Scots? And a series titled “Sometimes in Love” ?
I was in.
Five friends who travel around Europe to celebrate their goals, accomplishments, and friendships. And as they reach Scotland, a chance meeting with alluring Scot, Logan, Cassie begins a whirlwind romance. It reminds me of Punk’d with a strangers to lovers trope. It’s adorable and fun, but let me not forget the heat!
The fact that I couldn’t put the book down for a day straight? That says something about this story and this writing. Getting Hot with the Scot immediately draws you in, and as soon as you meet Logan and Cassie, you’re drawn to the chemistry between them. I enjoyed the relationship between Logan and Cassie. I thought their meeting was hilarious, and the attraction between them is pretty hot.
More importantly, I loved how they each champion themselves. Yes, there is a sense of sacrifice on each other’s part, and this whirlwind of a romance that is pretty intense. But I really appreciate that they both stand ground to what they want. They don’t give in completely, but they eventually find a solution to fit their needs.
I’ve already started the next in the book, and I am now a forever fan of Melonie Johnson.
*Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.*

Melonie Johnson is a new author for me, and this was a book that didn't disappoint! Hot man in a kilt with a killer Scottish accent + American tourist just wanting a vacation fling = too much fun! Can't wait to start the next one in the series!
This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Hard work and career focused are the best ways to describe Cassie a pop culture tv journalist. She meets Logan, who has made a living off of being a prankster, she quickly decides it could be a fun night.
Before she can realize it she decides one night is simply just not enough.

While on an extended vacation with her four best friends, Cassie to loath to let this lifetime experience go to waste, especially her goal of finding a sexy someone for what her romantic brain imagines will be a fairy-tale like evening.
In Scotland, when Cassie runs into Logan Reid, complete with kilt, she knows she's found her man for her night of fun. When Cassie realizes who exactly Logan Reid is, host of comedy sketch show Shenanigans, Cassie quickly realizes her encounter with Logan is part of a skit. Not letting this deter her, Cassie and Logan end up connecting more than either one thought possible for something that started out being a one night only thing. They'll both have to decide what they want out of a relationship past the one night and if a future is possible between them.
Melonie Johnson's debut starts off a truly promising, fresh romance series.
Starting out, I read a good amount of romances. And I think when you read a good amount of any genre you can start to see the similar details between different stories. Such as the use of tropes. You know what second-chance, friends-to-lovers, etc means for the story and therefore it becomes clear how things are going to proceed from there.
I really loved all the places where Melonie Johnson shirks the normal pathways of the typical romance story-telling and paves a new way. It's what makes this first entry in the series feel so fresh, and I can only hope it's what continues in the next books.
First off, throughout much of the book, I loved the idea of Cassie's friends being so much a part of the relationship development between Cassie and Logan. They are all on vacation together after all, and these people are Cassie's nearest and dearest so I like that there presence is so deftly felt as Logan and Cassie first start falling for one another. This also helps the beginning of the set up for the next book in the series [book:Smitten by the Brit|41150496] in a huge way. It's been awhile since I've seen secondary characters given such a wonderful setup for their own story, but Melonie Johnson pulls it off wonderfully, and has me hooked to figure out how the next story will go.
Secondly, I really loved that the conflict between Logan and Cassie (that thing the inevitably pops up between our couple to challenge they burgeoning love) is introduced relatively early. Not in it's entirety, mind you, but the conflict that is introduced definitely has bearings on how things continue to proceed between Cassie and Logan. As I've found in many romances, a conflict is often thrown out more towards the end of the story and when this is the case, I feel like there's too much of a rush to resolve everything for the Happily Ever After at the end. Here, though, Cassie and Logan are able to work through - or not -these issues. Readers are really given a good glimpse at the ups and downs of relationships in one book. This is often achieved in series books where the main couple are the center of each story, but I've rarely seen it tackled in quite this way where there is a new couple in each book. I really enjoyed this aspect of the story as I felt like it showed the growth and Cassie and Logan's relationship really well, yet also shows the work that relationships invariably take.
Overall, I'm super excited for the next installments in this series. I love taking a chance on a new to me author, and I equally love when that chance pays off, and it pays off ten-fold with Getting Hot with the Scot. You won't be disappointed by picking up this one.
