Melonie Johnson is a new author for me, and this was a book that didn't disappoint! Hot man in a kilt with a killer Scottish accent + American tourist just wanting a vacation fling = too much fun! Can't wait to start the next one in the series!

Hard work and career focused are the best ways to describe Cassie a pop culture tv journalist. She meets Logan, who has made a living off of being a prankster, she quickly decides it could be a fun night.

Before she can realize it she decides one night is simply just not enough.

While on an extended vacation with her four best friends, Cassie to loath to let this lifetime experience go to waste, especially her goal of finding a sexy someone for what her romantic brain imagines will be a fairy-tale like evening.

In Scotland, when Cassie runs into Logan Reid, complete with kilt, she knows she's found her man for her night of fun. When Cassie realizes who exactly Logan Reid is, host of comedy sketch show Shenanigans, Cassie quickly realizes her encounter with Logan is part of a skit. Not letting this deter her, Cassie and Logan end up connecting more than either one thought possible for something that started out being a one night only thing. They'll both have to decide what they want out of a relationship past the one night and if a future is possible between them.

Melonie Johnson's debut starts off a truly promising, fresh romance series.

Starting out, I read a good amount of romances. And I think when you read a good amount of any genre you can start to see the similar details between different stories. Such as the use of tropes. You know what second-chance, friends-to-lovers, etc means for the story and therefore it becomes clear how things are going to proceed from there.

I really loved all the places where Melonie Johnson shirks the normal pathways of the typical romance story-telling and paves a new way. It's what makes this first entry in the series feel so fresh, and I can only hope it's what continues in the next books.

First off, throughout much of the book, I loved the idea of Cassie's friends being so much a part of the relationship development between Cassie and Logan. They are all on vacation together after all, and these people are Cassie's nearest and dearest so I like that there presence is so deftly felt as Logan and Cassie first start falling for one another. This also helps the beginning of the set up for the next book in the series [book:Smitten by the Brit|41150496] in a huge way. It's been awhile since I've seen secondary characters given such a wonderful setup for their own story, but Melonie Johnson pulls it off wonderfully, and has me hooked to figure out how the next story will go.

Secondly, I really loved that the conflict between Logan and Cassie (that thing the inevitably pops up between our couple to challenge they burgeoning love) is introduced relatively early. Not in it's entirety, mind you, but the conflict that is introduced definitely has bearings on how things continue to proceed between Cassie and Logan. As I've found in many romances, a conflict is often thrown out more towards the end of the story and when this is the case, I feel like there's too much of a rush to resolve everything for the Happily Ever After at the end. Here, though, Cassie and Logan are able to work through - or not -these issues. Readers are really given a good glimpse at the ups and downs of relationships in one book. This is often achieved in series books where the main couple are the center of each story, but I've rarely seen it tackled in quite this way where there is a new couple in each book. I really enjoyed this aspect of the story as I felt like it showed the growth and Cassie and Logan's relationship really well, yet also shows the work that relationships invariably take.

Overall, I'm super excited for the next installments in this series. I love taking a chance on a new to me author, and I equally love when that chance pays off, and it pays off ten-fold with Getting Hot with the Scot. You won't be disappointed by picking up this one.

This book was a lot of fun to read. I appreciated that the author gave the reader just enough background to make the main characters, Logan and Cassie, believable – but without going over the top with backstory. The opening chapter was terrific and had me wondering if I misjudged what the book was about (but in a good way). The author did a fantastic job of tying that chapter closely to Cassie’s reading choices. The dialogue was snappy, especially between the group of friends, and I could practically feel the camaraderie spill off the page. I wanted to hang out with them. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and devoured the book in a day. I look forward to reading about each of the girl’s experiences (I hope!) See my blog at www.firefliesandfreekicks.com for a more detailed review. This review was written based on a pre-release ARC provided by NetGalley.

I read "Getting Hot with the Scot" in a weekend! Very entertaining love story. I enjoy this easy, light type of read where you know everything will work out wonderfully in the end. I enjoyed this one so much that I immediately started another book by Melonie Johnson.

Adequately titled including the word "hot", this story is steamy beyond measure. The chemistry of Cassie and Logan is off the charts! Always having been intrigued by Scotland, kilts, green hills, and ancient castles, I knew the premise of a hot Highlander had major appeal for my reading palate. The story is fun, catchy, moves at a pleasant pace, and includes lovely (steamy) details of this couple's story while sprinkling interesting details and quirky dialogue along the way. Wonderful!

4 1/2 "kilt-loving" stars

This book was such a pleasant surprise! Melonie Johnson is definitely a talented debut author. Getting Hot with the Scot starts off with a fun little twist that helps to set up the storyline. Logan and Cassie were easily a couple you enjoy watching stumble all over themselves with their initial attraction. After that, they simply have to figure out the rest and that's usually where the real challenge comes in - - hey that's where it gets challenging in the real world too, right? Let's just say, I was sold when I read the word "Scot" as that is my kryptonite if it's done well. Logan was absolutely done well. He is a lovable, sexy, brogue-talking, kilt-wearing Scot with a heart. Cassie was a great character as well because she wasn't written with "over the top extremes" in her personality. She simply wanted to be respected and her career mattered to her. That said, she also wanted "the dream" (ie., husband, kids and dog) and wasn't willing to settle. She was easy to identify with. Top this off with the fact that all of the supporting characters were also really likeable! Here's another little hint...this is just book one in Ms. Johnson's Sometimes In Love series. There are more books to come where some of their friends will be in search of their own HEA....I, personally, can't wait to read those too!!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“Getting Hot with the Scot” by Melonie Johnson is book one in the Sometimes in Love series. This is my very first book by this author and it won’t be my last. I was drawn in right away and did not want to put this book down. This book is sweet, entertaining, funny and romantic. It kept my engaged and turning the pages. There was an amazing group of well-developed characters, an entertaining storyline, and descriptions of settings that make you feel like you are there with the characters. I can’t wait to read more books by this author. I recommend this book to any one that loves a good rom-com and has ever fantasized about what a man wears under his kilt.

Unfortunately, this book just didn't work for me. From the moment I met the MC I could tell we might not get along and as it progressed I was proven right. When a character has a charm bracelet she is filling with charms to remember her trip I just know she is not the girl for me. That's a really nice idea... but it also had me rolling my eyes. I ended up DNF-ing this book.

I had heard plenty of positive things about this book, and I'm sure it did a lot of things right, but they weren't right for me. I did like there was a large group of girlfriends on a trip together and that friendship was strong in this, but liking the MC is pretty essential in romance and that didn't happen here.

Cassie is on the last leg of her European vacation with her best friends and the only thing left on her wish list is to have a vacation fling but so far she has come up empty. She is a social reporter in Chicago, but she wants to take her career in a more serious direction so when she becomes the recipient of a joke by a sexy Scot she is not about to sign the waiver and have it promoted for all to see.

What started out as a way to pull pranks has turned into a popular internet show. Logan is very close to having a major network pick it up and all he needs is one good prank to put it over the top. When he sees the footage of the encounter with Cassie he knows this is the one but now he has to convince her.

They both enjoyed their encounter and spend a steamy night together but when he follows her to England is it to spend more time with Cassie or does he have a bigger plan in mind?

I enjoyed the chemistry and connection between Cassie and Logan as well as the close and fun relationships they share with their friends. The secondary characters are intriguing and I am looking forward to reading their stories as well.

What a debut!
Getting Hot with the Scot is everything I want in a romcom!

Amazing group of girlfriends ✔️
Sexy guy with an even sexier accent ✔️
Hilarious meet cute ✔️✔️
Steamy sexy times ✔️
Satisfying self actualization (I know it seems weird but I like when they fix themselves) ✔️

Logan and Cassie meet during some literal Shenanigans and find themselves instantly attracted to one another. After a weekend of touring London, and finding they have some deep feelings developing, they part on bad terms. But fate reunites them on Cassie’s home turf and they are able to mend their budding relationship.

At this point Melonie Johnson does something that I love but is becoming less frequent, she advances the story quite quickly and we get to see Logan and Cassie go from instant lust, to a couple reuniting, to a couple settling into coupledom two months in. I really liked the hints at everyday life that allows them to grow and fall in love. I also loved the trip back to Scotland!

However, an old hurt and series of unfortunate events leads to another crack in their relationship. My favorite thing about this book is that Cassie has her girls and they aren’t afraid to tell it like it is and that helps her realize where her head is at and what she’s really hurt about. Logan has that too with his mate Leo and his big sis (that whole self actualization thing!). And while his grovel isn’t as epic as I would’ve liked, the ending is absolutely perfect!

I can’t wait to dive into Bonnie’s and Theo’s story as you just know it’s going to be deliciously rife with Shakespearean level snark!

I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.

Wonderful series coming up!

Chicago reporter Cassie Crow was a vacation through Europe with her best friends when she almost runs into what she almost thinks is a time-traveling Scotsman in a kilt. Little did she know that Logan Reid wasn’t a time-traveling anything but had a show on YouTube playing practical jokes on people. Logan needed Cassie’s signature for the clip to be shown. Cassie and Logan have very different type of personalities where Cassie wants to be a serious journalist and Logan likes to play pranks on people but they actually make it work.

I loved reading Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson because of opposites do attract but the author really shows the reader why Logan wants to make people laugh and enjoy themselves but he can be serious when he needs to. I already plan to read the next book in the series, Smitten by the Brit!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Getting Hot With The Scot by Melonie Johnson is the first book in her fun new Sometimes in Love Series. Cassie Crow a pop culture reporter for a talk show in Chicago is on her dream European vacation with her best friends from college when she gets caught up in one of Logan Reid’s youtube video pranks. She refuses to sign a release form because she wants to switch from pop culture to more serious reporting. When Logan who is hoping to move from youtube to television pursues her to get her agreement to air the video, their chemistry becomes extremely combustible and a one night stand turns into something more. I found this to be a very enjoyable fun and steamy read. The relationships not only between the hero and heroine but also those with their friends make this a book that you don’t want to put down. I look forward to reading the other books in the series

A good Scottish brogue gets me every time! Logan in my mind through this book looks like Sam Heughan. My heart has found a new love!

Now Cassie in my mind is me. Haha! I mean my name is Cassie and our hair color is similar. She is smart and sassy just like any woman named Cassie I know. She is all heart and straight forward. I love her!

Logan and Cassie set off fireworks! Their chemistry was set from the first interaction and only increased through the book.

This book gives you lots of laughs and heart warming moments. It’s a feel good read through and through!

A light hearted summertime read – more of a younger genre than I typically read but an enjoyable book nonetheless. A ‘girls’ vacation full of fun with the expectation of more fun at night. Each of the four characters is different in their own way which makes a person wonder how they managed a European trip without fighting amongst themselves!

Cassie came armed with a box of condoms with the hope that she would use them all. Nearing the end of the trip, she hasn’t used a single one. A trip through a castle and a detour inside presents her with an opportunity to change that. But when she finds out that the ‘guy’ she discovered is really a reality prankster, she’s afraid that her budding career as a serious reporter will be ruined.

Logan wants/needs to have one more successful video to help convince his producers that he can continue to be a success. He follows Cassie back to the US to get her signature on a contract allowing him to use the video. What he doesn’t plan is how much he begins to like her, leading him to reconsider.

If this author’s next book is as good as this one was, she’ll have a very successful writing career!

I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest and unbiased review. No compensation was promised or received for this review.

After a month of some serious, heavy literature, “Getting Hot with the Scot” was a light breeze of a read. Cassie, Logan and their friends banter entertainingly across Britain, and the heat is on between the couple. As an added bonus, Cassie makes a good case for smart women who read romance. Well, duh! I’ll read more by this author.

Cassie has a list of things she would like to accomplish on her vacation. A one night fling with Logan meets her goal and she is satisfied and ready to move on. Unfortunately he is not. The story has a lot of characters and moving parts. This leads to times when point of view (POV) gets a little cloudy and some boredom sets in. Overall the plot is great as it shows great character development on the part of both Cassie and Logan. Nettie is a character who added great levity to the story. The steamy scenes are wonderful and the romance is off the charts. Logan knows how to woo a woman and definitely uses all the tools to bring Cassie to her knees.

Getting Hot with the Scot is a wonderfully lighthearted romance that will hook you in from page one. Melonie Johnson has quickly become one of my all time favorite authors. If you enjoy witty dialogue, likeable characters with off the charts chemistry and plenty of steamy romance this book is for you. Now I can't wait for the rest of the friends to get their own story.

I had so much fun reading this book. Five friends traveling to the places they most wanted to go to. Cassie Crow, the reader of romance books, was looking for a vacation fling. She meets Logan Reid, who is prankster. Little did they both know, this was the start of a lot of fun. Like all good vacations, they must end. As one door was closing, another was opening. The opening came in the city of Chicago for Logan. He was getting his dream job in the city where Cassie lives. Nothing could be better. You will laugh at some of the scenes. The times they are together are sizzling. Like all true love stories, they hit a bump in the road. Trust the mom's to give their children the courage to reach for what they want.

Love love love this book. I felt like one of the girlfriends reading. And I especially love the emphasis on reading and not mattering what you read as long as you do so.

5 girlfriends go on an epic European vacation where, while visiting Edinburgh castle, Cassie meets Logan. This book is a contemporary romance with well developed characters and relationships and story lines. And I can’t wait to read the other girls stories.
