Light and fluffy and quite adorable!

Usually the setup for a romance bordering on chic-lit makes me groan as it tends to rely on the characters being willfully stupid, dense or both. To my utter delight, the characters in this book were lovely and sexy and acted like normal people. I realized halfway through that this was the start to a series and now I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series with bated breath!

What can I say: I have a weak spot for men in a kilt. Especially if they call you lass and have an accent. So, what could go wrong with Getting Hot with the Scot? Well... honestly? I don't know. But although it was a cute read, it was also a bit boring. I have read three books in between the start and finish of this one. Because I just couldn't keep my attention on Cassie or Logan.
Cassie is on a holiday with her friends. She came from California to Scotland to have fun and forget about her worries at the other end of the ocean. She wants to be a serious reporter and not covering the gossip in the pop world. When she accidentally gets pranked by Logan for his internethit: Sheenanigans, Logan wants her to sign a waiver, so he can upload his prank to the internet. But since Cassie is afraid to jinx her career she refuses.
However, Logan is determined to get the autograph. So with the help of his best friend Theo, he 'accidentally' meets the girls the next day on their boat tour. Cassie and Logan discover they have a lot in common and the flirting and banter is very funny. However... it just drags on and on... So... three books further, I decided to give it another go. Fortunately in the last part of the book the pace picks up. We meet Logan's mother and sister in Scotland and we get an insight into why Logan has started his prankster movies. So yeah, in all it is a nice read. And maybe I'll even try the next part in the series: Smitten by the Brit, to see how Theo will fare with Bonnie. Hopefully the pace has been picked up there. Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

This was a light, fluffy beach read. Kinda every girl's fantasy when she goes on vacation: meet a hot, accented, talented guy. There was an atmosphere I could feel when the different cities the friend group visited were described. Though Logan and Cassie bounced off each other well, I never felt like I got a true feel for their actual personalities beyond him being a jokester & her being a reader/workaholic. The first and second parts of the book have distinctly different feels to them. There seemed to be a bit too much buildup towards future books, but overall, I liked the writing style, sense of place, and am interested in the next installment.

Charming story with humor, feels and great characters! Who hasn't wanted to go on a fantasy European vacation complete with a fling? Well, that's Cassie's goal, well her vacation was going great, fun time with friends and memorable places but the guy just wasn't showing up, well mystic Scottish castle, secret passage and a sexy man in a kilt lent a very good start to topping of her perfect vacation! Logan was use to pulling off surprises but when one of his practical junks backfires he's got some explaining to do! Fun read! Can a fling mean more? How far will he go to get what he wants?

Getting Hot with the Scot (Sometimes in Love #1) by Melonie Johnson
I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I met this author at a book con. She told me all about her soon to be releases so when I saw them available, I grabbed them. I had no clue except she was absolutely friendly and kind to chat with.
Imagine my shock and delight when I see this book is about a hottie in a kilt….uhm YES PLEASE!!!
This story is super funny, sweet, and one that I am so happy to have grabbed of Netgalley. I will say since this is the first book in the series, there was a bit of “world” building getting to know the characters and all that jazz but stick with it because the story is great!!
This story is about Cassie and a couple friends who take a trip. All Cassie want is to have a wild one-night stand, but her box of condoms is still full……BOOO!! Cassie soon finds herself sidetracked with a certain kilt wearing hottie named Logan. Logan is all “full steam ahead” on helping her use as many condoms as possible before her trip is over. *Snicker*
Cassie is a bit of a serious chick. She so when Logan asks her to help him with some pranks she kinda flips out. Relax girl!! It’s all good!! LOL
I enjoyed the story so much and can’t wait to read the next book I the series.

I read the second book in the series before this one, which is a good introduction to the series. Although it gave me a better insight into the characters, it didn't take away anything from the storyline as it is a strong standalone.

There are some strong secondary characters and Logan and Cassie, the main characters shine throughout the book. There are some misunderstandings which get in the way of their romance, but I like their honesty and the way they navigate through their problems to get to where they want to be.

I like the concept of how the friendship and the romance are portrayed. It's a fantastic story which I really enjoyed reading.

Steamy hot fun romance.....and there's a kilt! Life is good. This story is laugh out loud funny. Really enjoyed reading Cassie and Logan's journey. Hoping the friends each get their story.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it.

This romance novel hooks you immediately. It is cute and you can feel the chemistry between Logan and Cassie from the beginning. I thought Logan’s “job” was really unique and had me wondering how I would respond if I found myself in the situation Cassie was in. A fun, feel good book coming out just in time for summer travels and pool reads.

I loved the premise of this book. The plot was unique and so fun! Logan Reid was charming, determined and easily misjudged. The hero with a reputation that Cassie had a lot of trouble seeing past. And after their first encounter, I don’t blame her! But their attraction was undeniable from that first moment and neither could fight that.

This is the first story I’ve read from this author and I’m happy to say I’ve discovered a new one for me to stalk! With a writing style full of wit and charm, characters you can instantly connect to (not to mention the hot Scot with an accent) I found Melonie’s work hard to put down.

This was really cute! I liked the writing a lot and I really liked Cassie. I also liked Logan though I admit the prankster thing was hard to wrap my head around... just a teensy bit immature. I also wasn't a huge fan of the reason the video gets out-I just can't really take a character seriously when they get that drunk. I know it happens in real life but eh. Other than that, I really enjoyed it- it was a quick read and flowed well though I admit paced a bit oddly at times. I don't know how to explain it, I liked the parts in Scotland and England but then the parts in America seemed to slow it down a bit and then move insanely fast. Like I said, odd and I'm not great at explaining. But all in all, I did like it and will be continuing the series. I definitely didn't hate it and don't mean to seem like I did. It really was a funny, sexy, cute read with just a couple problems, but nothing huge or rage inducing. Loved the ending! Excited for the next one!

What a wonderful, feel good read! Getting Hot with The Scot by Melonie Johnson. Is a fun-filled, entertaining, witty read that will have you smiling so much your cheeks will ache. The plot is exceptional, and Cassie’s antics are often laugh out loud hilarious, while she pursues the sexy man-in-a-kilt, Logan, to check an item off her bucket list.

This is definite a book I highly recommend, with its well-developed storyline, loveable characters, loads of sexy moments, and an ending that will have you reaching for the tissues while your heart fills with joy. All I need to know now is where I can get my very own Scot!

This was very fun.

Cassie Crow is a straight-laced, driven woman in her normal life who decides that her souvenir from an epic European vacation will be a hot one night stand with a European stranger. Logan Reid is a prank pulling internet sensation looking for legitimacy in the form of a show on the more traditional media standby - television, he just needs one more good gag to seal the deal. When Cassie wanders into Logan's elaborate set up they both end up getting more than the bargained for, but can they handle things when the vacation is over and the cameras are put away?

This was an enjoyable read. I love a well-written Scot and Logan does not disappoint. I thought I might not like him when he first showed up, but he quickly won me over. Cassie is fun and I enjoyed watching her change from Vacation Cassie into a new version of herself when she went back to Regular Cassie, thanks to the experience of her trip and her time with Logan.

I definitely recommend this one.

Okay every girl needs a Logan f*cking Reid in their lives. This book started off a wee slow but man did it pick up momentum. Melonie Johnson is a great new author and I’m so glad I’ve found her. She does a wonderful job of drawing you into her works and making you want more.

Fun loving Cassie Crow is a television talk show pop culture reporter. Logan Reid hosts a prankster internet show. Cassie is on a girls trip and stumbles into Logan's show unexpectedly. She has goals for this trip and that includes having a fling. When Logan needs Cassie's agreement to be part of the filming of his show, they find themselves together for more than one evening. Their fling was fun, a little dramatic, and was such an adventure to follow.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of the friends developed and I hope they all get their own stories in the future. This would make a great summer read!

I'll admit it was the "Scot" that draw me to this book; the blurb does a fine job of giving you the plot of the story but having a Scottish hero made it irresistible for me, who can resist a modern day HIghlander, right?
And so, I was expecing a fun, light romance by reading this and it totally is but I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it, it was better than I thought I'd be, and now I'm really looking forward to read the next books in the series.

Both of the main characters Cassie and Logan are well written and are also quite likable; although I'd admit there were times I wanted to shake Logan. Still, the writing is good and the story remains fun, sexy and entertaining. The ending does feel a bit rushed in my opinion but it didn't affect my overall opinion on this book. It's an amusing read and if you're looking for a light, amusing, rom-com read.

I am fairly certain that the problem with this book is me - not the book. It could be a matter of bad timing, or an epic book slump where nothing seems to satisfy, or just my failure to really connect with the writing in this one - but after three attempts, I wasn't able to really settle in and connect with the story.

Objectively I can tell you it's not a bad book. The third person narrative was done in a way that did take some adjustment in this case (and I can't tell you why it's like that sometimes, and other times it flows naturally). I think the tone is not what I'm looking for right now - the romcom vibe with some over the top antics and a physical connection that is fleshed out before the emotional connection is explored. All of these things left me feeling...not connected to the story.

I think this might be one I circle back to at some point and try again. A victim of wrong book at the wrong time perhaps. For now, I'm giving myself permission to move on to something that holds my attention better.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is the first in a series Sometimes in Love. Cassie Crow is on a once in a lifetime girls trip across Europe, when she stumbles into a kilted Scot – Logan Reid. It is like a romance novel come to life. Then she discovers the truth, he is just filming pranks for a webcast. This is a fun romantic comedy that takes you from Scotland, England and back to Chicago. Just sit back and enjoy the Shenanigans. You will want to continue this series to see what happens to the rest of the girlfriends in this series. I know I cannot wait to hear the other girls stories.
I received a copy from Netgalley for review. I now have discovered a new author to keep me entertained.

This is my first book by Melonie Johnson. I really enjoyed this story. Five friends made a pact to travel Europe five years after college. Cassie and her friends are on the last leg of their trip visiting Scotland and London. Cassie Crow is an aspiring broadcast journalist. Cassie finds Logan hiding in a hidden room. Logan likes to pull pranks on people and share on his show “Shenanigans”. Unfortunately, for Logan Cassie will not sign the waiver or will she? Logan follows Cassie to London in the hopes of her signing the waiver. Over the course of Cassie’s time in London, she begins to develop feelings for Logan. But will the secret Logan carries with him keep him from achieving his end goal or are the feelings he feels for Cassie real? Logan’s big dream is to have a TV deal as a talk show host. When his big break comes without having to use Cassie’s video he is thrilled. Even better his TV deal is in the same city as Cassie. Cassie and Logan find themselves developing true feelings for each other. Will they each accept and embrace those feelings or will they run? Will Logan face his demons and be able to move forward with Cassie? So many questions. To find the answers I recommend you read Getting Hot With the Scot by Melonie Johnson. I look forward to book 2 in this series.

An adorable modern romance with wonderful characters. Our heroine and her friends are finally on the trip for which they had planned and saved since college. Each girl chose a country in Europe for them to visit together. They have reached the last country, the U. K. But our heroine still hasn't fulfilled her goal of having a torrid and short romance. Then she comes across a seemingly misplaced Highlander while visiting a castle in Scotland.
Quickly she recognizes him but not before she embarrasses herself on video for his web show.
Our hero must get her signature in order to show the highly entertaining and career producing video. If only he could keep his mind off of her on onto business when he is with her.

This was an interesting romcom book. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered on Cassie. This book had a lot of my favorite romance topics Scots in kilts, time travel (wink, wink), and a hot fling that turns serious. There were times that I hated the Hero, Logan, because he was a jerk but there are times as with a good romance book that I just wanted to bring him home and heal what hurts him. I also wished that I was in Chicago when Logan was walking in his kilt.

I would say 4 stars only because I felt that the ending was too quick and there were unsolved questions or answers that didn’t make any sense to me. I wished the author would have answered some of the questions especially about Logan’s past. Enjoy the book because I did and look forward to reading the next book.

Thank you Netgalley, the publisher, and author for allowing me to have an advance copy of this book.
