Cassie Crow is on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation through Europe with four of her best friends. Their second-to-last stop is Scotland and she's still toting around a box full of condoms she was hoping to use on a foreign fling. She's loaded her charm bracelet with keepsakes from each stop so her final goal is to be impulsive and leave with a heart-pounding memory that she'll never forget.
While on a tour of a Scottish castle Cassie stumbles upon a kilted Highlander stuck in a wall who is trying to convince her he's a time-traveller. She may not fall for it but she's unable to resist him and so the encounter results in a searing kiss...until she releases who he is and becomes furious.
Logan Reid is a sexy, charming Scot who has built a career hosting off-the-wall hijinks on the web. He's looking to move to TV but in order to do so he must prove that he can garner the female viewers. When he meets Cassie, he finds his big break. Only problem? She refuses to sign the release form. She's trying to advance her career and be taken seriously as a broadcast journalist so she knows that allowing this video to air can destroy her credibility.

Getting Hot with the Scot was such a cute, fun read. I loved the setting - there's nowhere I want to visit more than Scotland - and the meeting between Cassie and Logan was priceless. Their chemistry is undeniable and I was rooting for them to work it out - even if Logan could be a bit too immature for my liking.
This is a quick read but at times it felt like it was a little too long and the pacing could have been better. There are a lot of characters and the way it switched POV's could be a bit distracting.
That being said, I'm excited for the next installment - especially since it'll focus on Bonnie and Theo!

This is my first Melonie Johnson read and I will tell you that it will not be my last.

Logan is this super hot sexy Scottish guy who is a huge prankster.

Cassie is a cute loveable young woman who is looking to cross some things off her list while traveling.

I will tell you that I truly enjoyed this book. Also the first line of this book got me and with that one line I knew this book was going to be great!

I was swooning and laughing out loud with this read.

Highly recommended! This is the perfect curl up on the couch kind of book!

Well written, sexy and fun. Enjoyable light read. Two career driven young people who are not looking for committment find themselves out of their comfort zones. My first novel by this author but not my last

An absolutely fun-loving romp. It reminds me of every great rom com! Funny and sweet and everything you could imagine.

Light reading with a lot of humor. Not real strong characters, however, very likable. At the start, Logan was pretty immature but got it together at the end with a HEA. Looking at the next story and following all the main characters.

This book was gifted to me by the publisher in return for an honest review.

Melonie Johnson gives us a fun International romp between a sassy, strong American and sexy Scottish pranker. This novel has elements of humor and lightness--but it also treats the reader to more serious topics through character development. The novel is light and fun with just the perfect hint of seriousness. A great read!

I genuinely love a book about a lighthearted romantic romp. I think where this book goes slightly off kilter (Pardon the expression) is the ridiculous silliness in the set up of the meeting and especially the use of all the cliché Scottish terms. The whole romance lacks depth and the vapid friends are comical. I think the book was mostly silly and daft. I do believe this will be a popular book with girls 17 to 21 years of age. A good effort, just not good enough.

This book was sent me by the publisher, St. Martin’s Press. By now, they know I love historical fiction and historical romance novels, especially those with a connection to Scotland. Getting Hot with the Scot, by two-time RWA Golden Heart finalist, Melanie Johnson, did not disappoint. It will be available at your favorite bookseller on April 30, 2019.

When Cassie Crowe and her girlfriends were very young, they planned to travel through Europe on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation when their careers were established. It was near the end of this trip that Cassie stumbled into the set of a reality TV show, and met her very hot Scot, Logan Reid.

Logan is a gorgeous, hot, kilted, and beautifully accented Scottish hunk. He is also the host of a web series of pranks that has made him famous on the Internet. While he hopes this latest prank will earn him a TV series, Cassie, a pop-culture reporter on morning TV, has high hopes for a more serious position on her local morning show.

Through her characters, Johnson makes a case for literacy programs for children, and for one of my own pet peeves: adults on social media who don’t know the difference between their, there, and they’re – but don’t let me get started on that. She also makes a great case for romance novels by hosting a segment on her morning show called “Coming Out of the Book Closet” about professionals, including herself who love romance novels. She is on a mission (I’m with her all the way!) to dispel the notion that intelligent people don’t read romance novels. We all know that reading, in general, is important to maintaining and improving brain activity. I highly recommend Getting Hot with the Scot o any lover of romance.

What Makes This Reviewer Grumpy?

The usual things: referring to people as "that" instead of "who", misplacement of the word "only" within sentences, split-infinitives, and singular vs. plural disagreement within sentences.

This book had everything you could ask for in a romance - great characters that seem relatable, fun and original story line, a touch of humor and plenty of steam. If this first book is any indication, Melonie Johnson will stay on my must read author list! I don't often pick quotes out of books I read but I did in this one, in fact several quotes stood out. But the best ones include "smart women read romance" and to my disappointment "contrary to her fantasy version of Scotland, hunky, shirtless guys in kilts weren't sprinkled liberally across the country." A terrific debut and I'm eagerly awaiting book two in the series since apparently Bonnie the heroine of the next book is "library whore," what more needs to be said!

5 college girlfriends decide to take the trip of a lifetime. Logan, is a sexy prankster who gets Cassie to fall for one of his pranks during her tour of a Scottish castle. Once Cassie realizes what's going on, Logan has a hard time getting her to agree to allow the prank to be aired on his website. In his pursuit of her agreement, he realizes he's falling for her. Cassie's friends are both loyal and supportive to her but also see the potential in Logan. This was a good paced story-line with great sexy-times and world building. I really enjoyed the advance access to Getting Hot with the Scot. Melonie Johnson is a new to me author and I am looking forward to reading more from her and reading about the love lives of the rest of Cassie's friends.

This is funny, sweet, and just a bit sexy. This novel opens with five girlfriends on European trip of a lifetime as they visit their fantasy destination. For Cassie, she wants to meet a Scot in a kilt, and if she should have a whirlwind vacation romance, so much the better. When she stumbles across Logan, dressed in a kilt, she wonders if her dreams have come true. What follows is engaging and entertaining, as Cassie enjoys her flirtation with the Scot, even as his playful manner hides his own demons.

This is a new author whose work I think I'm going to enjoy very much. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing what shenanigans the other friends can find. Put this one on your TBR list as this is an author to watch.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson. The first book in the Sometimes in Love series. A new to me author. Even though it took me awhile to get into the book I liked the characters, and storyline. It has a little spicy content which was perfect for the storyline.

Cassie is a smart, professional women on a trip with her four best friends when she gets turned around in a Scottish castle where she finds a hot, kilted highlander locked inside the wall of castle.

Logan was only looking to prank visitors for his web show, he wasn’t looking for an instant attraction to the sassy American woman who found him.

The two find they cannot fight the attraction that sparks whenever they touch. Unfortunately, that prank seems to always hang between them...if aired he gets his show, but she loses her career.

I enjoyed the relationship and love between these characters. I loved the beginning and the ending, but Logan’s backstory and issues seemed resolved too easily. He never really explains himself to Cassie. That’s my one complaint about this book.

Fun, romantic read. Can’t wait for more of the series.

Loved this book!
One of the perks was that I too visited Scotland with my friends last year. But unfortunately we didn't meet any hot Scott in a kilt. But we did visit Eileen Donan castle and we went through all the Scotland so it is incredible to read about this beuty that truly is indescribable. You have to see it with your own eyes to know what the talk is about.
Anyway back to the book. It is sweet and funny and super exciting. His accent is off the charts!
I love their dynamics. Their push and pull is incredible.
Cassie is a strong woman and wonderful too. She likes romance books and happily ever after just like me, so I really can relate wih her. I agree that what you read doesn't define you. I am not ashamed to say that I love romance books.
Logan on the other hand is a hot Scott. I think that we already established that, haha. No, seriously he is amazing, but he has his own insecurities, that he needs to get through them. With a little help he manage to do just that.
Incredible story. Well done Melonie!

Melonie Johnson's debut title "Getting Hot with the Scot" is a fun romp full of friendship, kilts, and sexy times. I am excited to see how Melonie Johnson's writing develops. This first book was a little scattered, but a fun read sure to please fans of contemporary romance.

Cassie Crow is the pop-culture reporter on ChiChat, a segment on a Chicago morning television talk show. She’s a bit of a local celebrity, but after three years of conducting lightweight interviews, Cassie is ready to do some serious reporting. And she has a plan to make that happen as soon as she returns from a long overdue vacation.
Cassie and a group of friends travel to Europe intent on seeing the sights and engaging in some badly needed adult misbehavior. Their multi-country tour brings them to Scotland and a visit to Edinburgh Castle, where Cassie inadvertently stumbles into a hidden alcove. Inside she finds herself face-to-face with a devilishly handsome, kilted Highlander. His hypnotic brogue and the allure of a Scottish romantic fantasy catch Cassie off-guard, and she kisses him. But when her horny brain-fog lifts, she recognizes him. Logan Reid.
Logan Reid is an internet media personality. His widely popular, online sketch show, Shenanigans, is all about punking people, recording them in awkward and embarrassing situations for a laugh. You’d think catching Cassie in his ridiculous Highlander hoax would be a hilarious addition to the show. But for some reason, the thought of humiliating this woman and possibly derailing her career doesn’t seem funny at all.
Johnson’s fun, smartly written read is filled with humor in both the characters and the dialog, as the group of friends cavort in Europe. Well-timed tension builds between Logan and Cassie, with their hearts and careers seeming at cross-purposes. And the 21st Century Scottish hero is a pleasing twist. Lots to love in this happily ever after.

What a refreshing new author! Very well developed, fun, sexy and a great romance!

Tons of great moments throughout the book. It’s a beautiful journey between Cassie & Logan. There was never a moment that I wanted to put the book down. It made me laugh and had just the right touch of heart break.

I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series and really hope we get to see more of Cassie & Logan!

You will fall in love with this new author! Must read!

This story was very entertaining and well written. I enjoyed Melonie Johnson's ability to capture Scotland in such an appealing way that made me want to visit there myself. My only thing is that I am not a fan of masturbation and graphic details in a sex scene.
To me, that takes away from the story of true connection in romance. I felt that what Logan and Cassie had ran deeper than sex and I'd love to have seen more of that than just the steamy stuff between them. But, the friendships, the humor, the dialogue, and everything else about the story was well written.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

Cassie Crow has spent the past 5 years focusing on her career as a host of ChiChat, a Chicago talk show, leaving her no time to focus on her love life.
On vacation with her 4 best friends, Cassie sets a goal to have a fling with a hot European guy. Logan Reid has a popular internet show, Shenanigans, and is hoping to get it picked up as a TV show, and a prank he filmed with Cassie would be just the video he needs to seal the deal. Logan needs to convince Cassie to let him air the video, but their attraction is too intense to deny, and all they can focus on is being with each other.

Romance readers will eat this book up; it has all the elements a good romance should. With all of the textbook reading I have had to do for my classes in the past month, this book was a great escape. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

"Life is short, lass." "When good things happen, try not to question it."

Getting Hot with the Scot is a fun and entertaining romantic comedy from author Melonie Johnson. When I first laid eyes on the synopsis, I just knew I had to check this book out and I am so glad that I did! Now, I'll be a 100% honest with you, when I first dove into this book, I wasn't 100% sure about it. For some reason, I had the hardest time getting into the story. But, I gotta tell you, I am so glad I didn't give up. I am so glad that I kept going and gave this book the chance that it deserved because I ended up totally loving it. Once you get to know Cassie and Logan, they are impossible to not fall in love with!

Cassie and Logan were such a fun pair. Logan was a riot and prankster. I'll be straight with you, I didn't know if his intentions were true in the beginning, but I soon discovered that there was a lot more to Logan than meets the eye. Not only is he sexy as ever, but add in his thick Scottish accent and I was a goner. I mean, I just loved hearing his character talk. I felt like I was right along in Scotland with the characters. Add in that the story-line is actually one of my top troupes, I was a goner. I mean, there is nothing better than a night of passion, that suddenly turns into more. Cassie and Logan had some intense sparks between them and I was so excited for the possibility of more between the two of them.  The road to happily ever after for these two definitely wasn't an easy one. There were a lot of bumps along the way. But, I really enjoyed seeing Logan and Cassie's relationship grow and I especially enjoyed seeing Logan come to terms with his past and taking a risk on a love of a lifetime.

Getting Hot with the Scot was a totally fun read. I loved getting lost in Cassie and Logan's story. I thought the plot was a lot of fun and the characters were a riot. I loved the friendship that Cassie had with her girlfriends and loved the closeness that Logan had with his family. Together, Logan and Cassie were an undeniable match. Their sparks intense and the tension between the two of them left me begging for more. I loved the will they/won't they moments along the way. I loved the angst between them and seeing them trying to figure things out. They weren't perfect, but I loved that about them. They had lots of growing to do and I just couldn't wait to see how their story would unravel in the end.

Overall, I thought this book was a really enjoyable read. It was sweet. It was romantic. It had lots of humorous moments and others that just tugged at my heart. I had a great time getting to know these characters and had fun getting swept up in their story. This is my first book by this author and it certainly won't be my last. I can't wait to see what adventure this author has in store for us next.
