A reporter trying to be taken seriously & a man who has made a career out of high jinks & poking fun of others? Doesn’t sound like a match made in heaven, more like a disaster in the making. When Cassie is on vacation in England, she accidentally stumbles into one of the pranks Logan is filming for his show. She doesn’t think it’s funny. Logan is attracted to Cassie & not only follows her around but enlists his best friend to help. Can they manage to survive when the clip starts making its rounds in the US when Cassie goes home & Logan follows her?

This was a cute, quirky romance from the moment Logan & Cassie met. Their attraction was plain to see but it was hard to see how their different attitudes would mesh. I liked that Logan managed to get Cassie to lighten up but yet Cassie was able to get Logan to start taking some things more seriously. The scenery was described in enough detail that the reader can picture it while reading. This was a well written, interesting romance that was entertaining to read.

Cassie is on a Europe tour with her friends, when she stumbles into a kilted Highlander, she thinks it’s her favorite time travel romance come alive and kisses him. Soon she realizes Logan is filming a prank for his internet sketch show. Where will this inopportune meeting lead them ?
Getting hot with the Scot is a book that is funny with some quirky banter and hot chemistry. I loved the bond shared by the friends and the way the story developed between Cassie and Logan. It is a well written book with an easy pace that I enjoyed reading.

When I first saw the title of Getting Hot with the Scot, I was in love. I am a complete Anglophile. I love anything (and everything) that comes from England, Ireland or Scotland. I figured I was in for a treat. For the most part, I was. There were a few things that I didn’t like about the book. But other than that, I thought Getting Hot with the Scot was a delight to read.

I liked Cassie, even though she gave off some desperate vibes at the beginning of the book. She went on her dream trip expecting to have a fling. I don’t know about you, but that is not something I expect when I go on vacation. Flings, well, they happen. You can’t force them. I did like that she brought an industrial size box of condoms with her. While I agreed with her about being filmed, I also didn’t see the harm in letting them do it. I also understood her freak out over seeing the release form in Logan’s jacket pocket. If I had spent 2 days with a guy and found that out, I would have reacted the same way.

I liked Chicago Cassie better than Trip Cassie. She was more real. More relatable. She seemed more in control than when she was on the trip. Saying that I did think her reaction to seeing the video online was overboard. She signed a release. You would think that working on TV would have prepared her for that. It irritated me a little bit. But, I got over it. By the end of the book, Cassie was the most real that she was the entire book. I was able to connect to her the most at that point.

Logan, I didn’t care for. Imagine that, not caring for a hot Scottish man. It killed me inside to realize that. He came across as an immature prankster who only cared about his gratification. I also got some major stalker vibes through the book. He followed Cassie to her hotel. Got Theo to find out that they were staying there and booked a room. Then pretended to run into her. Then, he tracked her down in Chicago. When I say tracked her down, he called her. But still, he googled where she worked and found that where he was going was in the same building. Then debated showing up at her job!! No thank you. His immaturity shown through when he released the video of him and Cassie kissing in the castle. He was so wasted he couldn’t remember it. Drove me nuts. I wanted to smack him upside the head and say “Why, why did you do it?“

The sexual tension was high in this book. From their first kiss, Cassie and Logan had it going on. The author was able to keep the spark going throughout the book. Intense sexual tension leads to some pretty awesome sex scenes. Their first “date“, they had sex. Logan had Cassie bent over a desk. Then there was the supply closet in the bar scene. Where Logan almost, but not quite, had unprotected sex with Cassie. Thankfully, the author didn’t go there. Even the makeup sex was hot!!

I had a love/hate relationship with the Scottish part of the book. I loved that it was set in the Highlands. I loved that the author had Logan, Janet and Mam speak like they were from there. I tend to read with accents, so that helped with me a lot. I loved that the Scottish traditions were detailed. But, I didn’t like having to google/look up words and holidays. Like clooties. I had no flipping idea what they were. I had to look them up. And so you guys don’t have too, click here for the link. I wish that there was a glossary or something at the end of the book. It would have helped.

The end of the book was sweet. I loved the talk that Mam gave Logan. He needed it. He needed to be told what she told him. I couldn’t stand Tiffany after what she did to Cassie. I was hoping that she got fired. The direction that Cassie’s career went was awesome!! What I loved, even more, was what Logan did during the New Years celebration. My heart melted.

My final impression of Getting Hot with the Scotis this. It is a cute romance. The chemistry between Logan and Cassie was electric. I did find that Logan was immature. He also gave off stalkerish vibes. I also found that Cassie tended to react and then think about what she did after the fact. But, this was a good read.

I would give Getting Hot with the Scot an Adult rating. There is explicit sex. There is language. There is mild violence. There are triggers. They would be the loss of a parent. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread Getting Hot with the Scot. I would also recommend this book to family and friends.

I received an advance copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. This was such a fun book. I read it in one day. The characters are well written. I wish I were part of this group of friends. On the trip of a lifetime with her best friends Cassie is caught up in a prank for an online show. How that evolves into a relationship is a good read. I would guess this will be a series of books telling the story of all the friends. I look forward to that. Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to get to know this author.

American Girl meets Man in a Kilt! This formula is one of my favorite plots and this book did not disappoint me! Cassie is an American tourist whose goal to have a fling with a true Scotsman while on vacation. She's about to give up when she meets a gorgeous guy in a kilt! He doesn't always dress that way but Logan Reid is the host of an internet series that can be full of surprises and crazy stunts. The attraction is mutual but both may just change their minds about commitment after getting together one night. Funny with captivating characters made this story a four star for me!

This book will be available April 30, 2019 from St. Martin's Press. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

Contemporary Romance

Edinburgh, Scotland, London, England, and Chicago, USA

Cassie Crow has been touring Europe with her five friends Bonnie, Sadie, Delany, and Ana. Cassie has filled her charm bracelet with charms from Italy, Spain and France, but she has not had the opportunity to use one of the condoms in the box she brought with her. She has not yet achieved her biggest goal: one really hot fling before she goes back to her all-consuming job as a pop-culture reporter at ChiChat, a Chicago daytime talk show. After she and her friends take a break and drink some whiskey, a slightly buzzed Cassie seeks out a rest room. On the way back to her friends she loses her way. She ends up encountering a handsome red-haired man wearing a kilt and speaking a deep Scottish brogue. They share a sexy kiss. It’s a set up. The whole scene has been videotaped.

Logan Reid and his sister Janet put together pranks for their Internet program Shenanigans. The woman they trapped in a prank won’t sign the release form. Janet gives him the form and tells him to get it signed. Logan needs this, he might have a chance at a telly program but needs good material as demo for the company. He doesn’t get the signature from Cassie but does get a night of great sex. He follows her to London to get the signature.

GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT is a unique love story. Both Logan and Cassie are concerned with their careers, but a strong physical attraction turns into an emotional one. Their affair ends disastrously in London, begins again in Chicago, but again work interferes, and another disaster breaks them apart. The story is very emotional with many hot sexual encounters, but how can they move a relationship any further? Once back in Chicago, one of her fellow reporters shames Cassie on ChiChat for reading romance novels. Her response is wonderful. Well-developed secondary characters give advice, but ultimately the story is about how Cassie and Logan overcoming their fears of commitment.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is a cute contemporary story about a guy from Scotland and a gal from the United States. Cassie Crow and her BFFs are on their dream vacation trip. They are on the last leg of the vacation visiting Scotland. While visiting a castle, Cassie is punked by Logan Reid, an internet entrepreneur. Cassie refuses to sign the wavier so Logan can use the footage on the internet. Logan falls for Cassie and decides to get to know her before asking once again for her to sign the wavier. Cassie and her friends return home. Cassie also works on the internet and is trying to be taken as a serious reporter. Cassie misses Logan, Logan misses Cassie. Fate steps in and Logan gets the job he wanted (without Cassie signing the wavier) and life gets interesting and the road to happiness is bumpy but love prevails. I thoroughly enjoyed Cassie and her friends interactions on their vacation and afterwards. Logan also has an interesting friend to help him. This was a very satisfactory read.

Getting Hot with the Scot is the first book in Johnson's "Sometimes in Love" series. While on a vacation of a lifetime with her best friends, Cassie has one goal -- a one night stand. Almost at the end of her trip, and a still unopened box of condoms stashed in her luggage, Cassie gets separated from her group in a Scottish castle and stumbles upon what looks like a handsome, time-traveling highlander. As Cassie is devote fan of romance novels, could this be her fantasy come true?

Logan is a master of hijinx, and he's just one step away from turning his trouble-making ways into a real career. While Cassie doesn't fall for his highlander escapade, she does plant a kiss on him that rocks his world and just might even forge a new path for him.

Getting Hot with the Scot is a great read. I loved the dynamics between the girlfriends in this book. A midwest girl myself, I enjoyed the scenes that took place in Chicago.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.

A sweet romance with a taste of long ago and today wrapped into one. It has friends and families tied into a well written story with great personalities. Delightful story.

Adorable romance with a lot of my favorite things-international travel, hot Scot in a kilt, fun group of friends. Both Cassie and Logan felt like real people and you could definitely feel their chemistry. I'm looking forward to reading Bonnie and Theo's story which was teased in this book a little bit.
Both Cassie's mom and her boss were rather shallow but everyone else felt real.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in return for my honest review.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book.

I liked how Logan and Cassie meet in this story. The setting of the story was also fun. Logan seems a bit immature at the beginning in the way that he handles various situations. Eventually, we see a different side to Logan which adds depth to his character. Both characters are likable and the story is enjoyable.

This was a very cute and funny story. I really liked it. The only thing I didn’t like is that the character coms off really self involved. I want them to end up together but there were times I felt he was better off moving on. So many opportunities to be an adult instead of a pouting toddler. That’s what her actions seemed like to me. The overall story is cute.

I didn't mind this book but the pacing felt a bit off to me and Cassie forgave too easily maybe? It was strange. Cute plot and setting overall.

Cassie is a pop culture reporter for a Cable TV Channel in Chicago who decides to take a trip to Europe with her best friends. While in Scotland, she encounters a gorgeous Scot in a kilt and, kisses him, while wondering if he's a ghost or, if this is a set-up.
Logan is a Scot who sets up elaborate pranks for the Internet Channel he and his sister have set up. When he meets Cassie, he falls instantly in lust and, follows her throughout the rest of their trip and, to Chicago.
This is one of the CUTEST romances I have read in quite a while.!!
Both Cassie and Logan are extremely hot for each other but, Logan is not the guy who ever wants to marry. Cassie, on the other hand, believes in Happily Ever After and, becomes very frustrated with this man who she can't read.
What's going to happen to this fling/romance?

Cassie Crow and her closest friends are traveling Europe for the summer and while they have seen all the major attractions they had on their check off list there is still one attraction Cassie hasn't managed to complete. While touring a castle and doing the liquor tasting at the beginning of the tour Cassie gets a little tipsy. She finds herself in an abandoned part of the castle and low and behold a kilted Highlander appears and she is swept away in the moment. This is exactly what she wanted, a hot fling with a hot man.

Logan Reid is so full of himself and this is perfect. This setup will surely get him his spot on television with his prank show. That is until the beauty recognizes him and all pranks are off and the joke is on Logan. But he finds maybe what he thought he needed and wanted most of all isn't what he thinks it is.

This book is funny and hot and all the characters are likeable and the story is believable. I liked it and it is definitely worth reading.

I received an early copy to read and review and give my honest opinion. A strong 4 stars.

Getting Hot with the Scot follows Cassie and Logan fucking Reid. Cassie and her girlfriends are on the trip of a lifetime and traveling through Europe when Cassie meets a time traveling Highlander. Just kidding!

Logan is known for his pranks and Cassie just walked straight into Logan’s most recent one. They share a sexy kiss and then realty comes crashing down on Cassie and she realizes what is really going on. She puts her foot down and will not sign the release form so he can legally post the video online, but that is not the answer Logan wants to hear, so he takes it into his own hands to try to sway her. Soon they both realize that they can’t get enough of each other, but with serious relationship issues, can Logan actually commit?

I loved Cassie’s character because she knew exactly what she wanted and went for it. She doesn’t put up with Logan’s crap. Despite Logan being a jokester, he wants to move on and actually be taken seriously. He’s very romantic with Cassie without even trying (or trying and failing when he tries to bake for her – lol).

The story is well written and concise; Melonie Johnson knows how to tell a story. It is full of humor and romance. This is a stand alone novel in part of the Sometimes in Love series. The second novel follows Bonnie and Theo (yes!) and the third one follows Sadie and her love interest (Can’t wait!).

I picked up this novel because it was highly anticipated on NetGalley and now I know why! Great read - 4/5 stars

I received a free, advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

For years, Cassie Crow and her best friends from college have been planning a European trip. This was the first vacation she has had in a long time, as she has been so busy building her career in the Chicago broadcast business, in the morning talk show, Chitchat, that she has had no time or energy to even date. This was suppose to be her chance to make up for that, by having a one night stand, something she would never do at home, and only read about in romance novels. But a few days before their trip was ending, still carrying a full box of condoms, she had yet to meet a guy that she wanted to fling with, until they reach Scotland, and she runs into Logan Reid, host of the web show Shenanigans, getting caught in one of his prank videos. She is trying to be taken seriously in Chicago, so refuses to sign the release papers of being filmed with him in a Scottish castle. He follows her to London, but when he finds her, never gives her the papers, wanting her company instead. However, she finds them in his pocket, refuses to listen to him and takes off without a goodbye. But fate is with him, as he is offered a spot in Chicago at Second Studios for a 12-episode mini series, and when he tracks down Cassie, she is no longer angry at him. But he has his own issues, never having gotten over the sudden death of his father and is scared to love anyone. Is there a future for these two? Although there a few parts that seem to drag a bit, the story is well written, with endearing characters, a female villainess and close friends that are ripe for their own romance stories. I enjoyed the story.

Standard contemporary romance with a vacay vibe that continues throughout the book. Romance is typical, the Scottish lilt fun (at first, i.e.: the 'ayes" and "lass" become so prolific, that it soon gets old). A bit more depth would have given this read something special. The secondary characters are compelling, but they fade away in the third act and the Cassie and Logan's relationship does not provide enough oomph to keep the momentum going. Cassie's backstory of work woes and family dynamic is a relatable element, but it is not fully fleshed out to deliver the drama that is suggested. Still Getting Hot with the Scot is a nice read, but does not stand out from the crowd.

This story was a great read. Following best friends who had planned this vacation for five years. All Cassie wanted was to have a foreign fling. But being a romance novel lover she got more than she bargained for in a hot scot named Logan.
This was a fun, sexy and all around good time book. The characters were believable and the supporting cast was fun to hang out with. You'll want to read more about the other ladies in the story.
