Melonie Johnson gives you a cast of uniquely colorful characters. And who doesn’t love a book set in Scotland? (Just wish they had stayed there.) But I kept waiting for the hero to capture my heart.. Logan isn’t your typical bad boy. He isn’t a victim of circumstance, hardened by life, who redeems himself with a great inner quality. He is more a victim of himself. Cassie gives him plenty of chances and should have kicked him to the curb after his reaction to “I want the dream,” I guess it just shows that anyone can get a happily ever after.

This was a fun and enjoyable contemporary romance, and a great kickoff for the new Sometimes in Love series. As the title suggests, the two main characters, Cassie and Logan, have lots of descriptive "getting hot" throughout the book. I personally would have preferred this to have been toned down a bit because I felt it started to slow the story down at times, but this is subjective. I thought the plot was unique and written in a style that was enjoyable to read.

I especially enjoyed getting to experience the different locations, including Scotland, London, and Chicago. The author did an excellent job making each locale come alive in a natural way. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and how the next book was set up, although this could be read as a standalone. The characters were all interesting and Cassie and Logan were a likeable couple, and I wanted them to get their happily ever after ending. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

With a bit of a slow start for me, i ended up really enjoying this book! I would read more from these characters, seeing what happens for Bonnie and Theo ;)

I loved the premise of this book and really looked forward to reading it.
Where it was difficult for me and why I gave a 2 star (and 2 star really is OK, not terrible in my book), is because the POV jumped all over the place. Even on the same page. The author would jump from Cassie to Logan to side characters and it was disorienting to me. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose but there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. It might jump twice on once page, five times on the next or not for a couple pages.

Another piece that didn't resonate with me was how transitions in the relationship happened too fast for me. Cassie seemed like someone who thought things out and was a planner. Even her decision to have a one night stand was calculated. Her decisions with Logan seemed out of character, especially when she went from one extreme of never wanting to see him again, to all of a sudden - dating. Because of this, I wasn't able to connect with the characters and didn't buy the chemistry.

I'm sure this is a book many people will love. But for me, these pieces were too glaring to enjoy the story.

Getting Hot with the Scot is one of the best romance books I've read this year. I loved this novel. Especially, because I love Scotland, and I'll be traveling there soon. I loved the situation. It was unique. The idea of Logan's prank show was hilarious and fresh. I also loved the dynamic of friends. They all had great relationships with each other, and they all were distinguishable and different. I'm looking forward to the next book!

I had a reason for reading this book, despite having never (in my memory) read a romance novel before. I know the author - not very well, but enough to follow on social media and to recognize at Target. I had forgotten how weird it was to read something by someone I know when they get to describing their sex lives. True, the other story I read was about the author's own sex life and included the information that part of it took place on her dining room table. I was glad I had never dined there.... So, it took me a while to rad the book, because as soon as I could tell where things were headed, I set the book aside for several days. Funny thing is, when I picked it back up, I still had five pages before they went for the groceries Cassie and Logan pack in plenty of foreplay.

I don't mean to harp (bagpipe?) on about the sex, except I know people who do not want to read anything like that - people who won't listen to an audiobook if it has "bad language" or see a movie with "premarital sex". The shock, the horror.

The plot structure was pretty much what I expected, I liked that the characters behaved in mostly realistic ways, and that the most important supporting characters also had personalities. At some point I could tell who the protagonists of the next book will be, and I will read that one as well. I was also happy to expand my vocabulary by reading this book. I probably didn't learn words I can work into a conversation easily, but new words are always good.

If this is the type of book you enjoy, you will love this book.

Ehh just okay for me. It was a cute, silly read but just wasn’t my cup of tea. I did enjoy the traveling part and loved the friendships. The first half was much better than the second half, in my opinion. While the meet cute was quite creative, I found all the pranks Logan pulled pretty silly and ridiculous. The pacing was both slow and fast at different times. It didn’t really pull me in like I’d hoped. I’m definitely in the minority, but it just personally didn’t work for me.

Just an ok read for me... I hated the whole "internet prank TV host" thing. It reminded me of the annoying kid on youtube my kids used to like. Kind of immature for adults.

I loved Cassie and Logan!
This was a fun sexy story. This is a new to me author and I'm glad I took the chance and read this book.
Thanks NG for the Arc

Melonie Johnson is a new to me author and I am thrilled that I found a new author that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way but in this case I was very happy. Getting Hot with the Scot was a fun love story. Five American friends travel to Europe for a group vacation and career oriented Cassie wants to let go and have one hot foreign fling as a souvenir and boy does she get it from a hot kilted Scotsman. But is this just a one time thing or will she get her HEA with Logan? The chemistry between Cassie and Logan was hot! And although Logan likes to live in the here and now he was pretty sweet and thoughtful to Cassie. Cassie's friendship with her girlfriends were cute and it sounds like each girl might get their own book. One other thing I found extra cute was all the references to Disney princesses and movies because I am a total Disney girl myself. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this author and reading the next book in this series.

*I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book*

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cute book. The premise was quite the hook. Cassie Crow is on a dream vacation with her best friends when she runs into internet prankster and red headed Scotsman, Logan Reid. Complete with the kilt, castle setting, and overly intense brogue, he immediately makes an impression on Cassie and she finds the whole hot Scot in a kilt too much to resist. Only to find out it’s a prank. And he wants her to sign a release so her humiliation can be public. Of course, Cassie tells him off and that’s that. Thinking she’s seen the last of the prank playing Scot, she continues her vacation.

Except Logan finds her and from there, something develops. From what stared as a prank, then a fling, and then something more, Cassie and Logan’s story moves from Scotland to Chicago. However, Logan is battling some commitment demons and it could possibly derail everything.

For me, this book is really two main parts: the part in Scotland and back in Chicago. Even the secondary characters are a bit different between the two settings. I thought the first part was cute, flirty, if a bit cliche, and quite a bit of fun. However, the return to Chicago seemed less so and for me, it dragged a bit.

The book lacked some pacing which made it seem too short in some areas and too long in others. Also, while the meet cute had some originality, many other parts, including the conflict, felt a little been there done that. Plus, a bit too many references to Disney princesses in general. All in all, a cute book but could have been better with some tweaks to the storyline. Three stars.

I absolutely loved how rich, well-developed, and sexy this book was. Cassie and Logan feel like whole people, with friends, families, career ambitions, and individual concerns, and Melonie Johnson shows us how their relationship really grows from first lust to real love. I read this book in one night – I couldn't put it down!

Getting Hot with the Scot is another fun read from St. Martin's Press. Cassie, a reporter who wants to report on more than pop culture is on vacation in Scotland. She meets Logan Reid who is in the midst of pulling a prank for his popular YouTube show...on her! Sparks fly between them as clash over the tape of the prank. Cassie feels it could ruin her career and Logan knows it will make his...but will the passion between them be more important than anything that could happen to their livelihoods? A sexy, exciting novel from Melonie Johnson...don't miss it!

Cute and funny, and I liked the dance between the two main characters early on in the book. I really liked the Chicago part of the book thanks to my love of my hometown. Overall I liked the book a lot and liked how Logan's backstory and family dynamics came into play as it further developed the story.

This is seems to be a debut book for this author and I'm glad I got the chance to review this book because it was super adorable and I can't wait for more from this author and this series.

Cassie was on a once in a lifetime vacation with her best friends and one thing she wanted from the trip was charms for her charm bracelet and one night stand while on a vacation. And what she got was so much more.

"The pain of missing your da is well worth the joy of having loved him. Of loving him still."

Logan has put up a wall around his heart with the loss of is da, and he finds it best to do shenanigans and pranks to others to keep people at bay. During one of his pranks he meets Cassie whom intrigues him more than just a release form for his most current prank, which could send him to stardom if she allows it. However, Cassie isn't easy to sway over.

I adored every character in this book. I also liked the quirkiness of the characters and how they interacted within one another. It was quirky, sweet and steamy. My favorite combination. Their was chemistry and there was also a sweet story with great banter and great characters.

Can't wait for Bonnie and Theo's book next.

I loved this story, the characters were well developed and draw you in. The story line has it all...romance, comedy and angst. I didn't want to stop reading this book once I started.

Excellent story. Well written. Held my interest, I read it in one sitting. The characters are fun I hope there will be stories for the rest of the girls. Great book for her first one. The only thing that bothered me was the title. If I hadn't been given this book I may have overlooked it because of that. I thought the title while appropriate and fit the story it sounds a little silly.

Getting Hot With The Scot is my first book by Melonie Johnson, it won't be my last. Ms. Johnson has given readers a well-written book and then treated us to an outstanding cast of characters. Cassie is going on a long-awaited trip with her friends. She's a little discouraged that the trip is almost over and she hasn't had her vacation fling. Logan meets Cassie when filming a prank at a Scottish castle. Logan and Cassie's story is loaded with drama, sizzle, humor and is a totally fun read. I enjoyed reading Getting Hot With The Scot and look forward to my next book by Melonie Johnson. Getting Hot With The Scot is book 1 of the Sometimes In Love Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is book one in the author's new Sometimes in Love trilogy.

When I first started this book I wasn't that into it. It seemed predictable and silly. Girl goes on vacation, wants a foreign fling. Gets foreign fling. There's drama. There's a happily ever after. The hero is a Logan Paul type character -- hosts a YouTube show pulling pranks on people. Such a prank causes our couple to meet.

I don't like to admit I was wrong but in this case I was. This book was so cute. The characters became charming and hooked me right in. I'm glad I stuck with it as after the first few chapters. I'm now impatiently waiting for book two in the series.

This book is a great read to devour in one sitting when you are wanting a cute romance. This was a fun story that touched on not only a fling turned HEA, but the importance of a good group of friends, going for what you want in the work place, and stopping the shame surrounding romance novels.
