What a fun debut novel!

With an entertaining meet cute, interesting main characters, strong (but not overwhelming) secondary cast, and a realistic conflict Getting Hot with a Scot pulled me in and wouldn’t let go.

Cassie and Logan were main characters that were easy to like and root for as they met in unique circumstances and later attempted to forge a real relationship. The bumps they ran into were realistic given how they met and they fact that they were still getting to know each other when things happened.

The secondary cast was entertaining and added layers to the story as they helped Logan and Cassie figure things out. As this is the first book in a series, Ms Johnson did an excellent job of weaving the secondary characters into the story in such a way that the reader can begin to relate to them without letting the world building take over Cassie and Logan’s story.

I enjoyed Getting Hot with the Scot and am hoping to see more from Ms Johnson, I am hopping Bonnie has a story coming soon.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book. I saw it and thought the title and cover were cute, and figured... let's give it a shot. I am beyond happy that I did!
This has been a rough week, stuck in the hospital. I didn't even feel like reading most of the week. That is a sentence I hardly ever say! Reading is my joy, my escape, my pleasure in life. If I don't want to read life is pretty crappy!
I cracked open Getting Hot with the Scot and I was completely captivated from the first page. The writing style was easy and fun. The characters were engaging. The book was filled with friendship, travels, family, love, hijinks and pleanty of passion and steam. And let's not forget a sexy man with a Scottish accent and a kilt ;) Yum!
I enjoyed every single part of this book and can not wait to read more from Melonie Johnson!

Who hasn't fantasized abut a sexy vacation fling? It is so out of character for Cassie Crow, for whom becoming a serious, respectable reporter has always been her focus. However for this trip she has come prepared to have "fun." What starts as an impulsive kiss and a random act of flirty fun, has the potential to turn into so much more.
In so many ways, Logan Reid is the total opposite. He only wants to have fun and be famous. Running into Cassie has him hot under the kilt and unprepared for the emotional impact to follow. He wants to have a good time but can't stop there. She has gotten to him like no one has ever before.
This is the perfect vacation read, or perhaps even better for those times you can't take off on an adventure of your own. You'll be hearing the burr of his brogue as you read.
With quick switches between points of view, this is a sexy yet funny book that will keep you turning pages far into the night.

Getting Hot with the Scot is the first book in Melonie Johnson's Sometimes in Love series and delights with steamy romance and charming, well-written characters that grab you and don't let go. Cassie Crow meets Logan Reid while on a European vacation with her girlfriends. She's looking for a hot fling and definitely finds just what she wants in Logan, but they must decide if a fling will be enough.

"Logan Reid was certainly delicious. But tempted as she was to have a second helping, Cassie knew he was an indulgence best not repeated."

Cassie is tempted into many helpings! The fling with Logan blossoms into a relationship, but the road to HEA is not without potholes, as what happened in Scotland doesn't stay in Scotland!

I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the series, as Johnson introduced wonderful secondary characters, Bonnie and Theo, who are set up for their own story.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Getting Hot with the Scot is the first book in the Sometimes in Love series by Melonie Johnson. From what I gathered the series will feature one group of female friends and in each book one of them will find love. First is Cassie and her man is Logan. The blurb covers the explanation of their jobs very well, so I won't bother with them. They were an interesting couple, but I couldn't always understand why there was so much conflict between them. They were on and off plenty of times and basically for the same reason every time. After a point, I got more interested in a secondary plot which will be become the main in the second book aka Theo and Bonnie. The author teased us so much about these two and I was starting to get frustrated from all the time jumps in the book because it meant that even though the MCs had met, one of them was engaged to another man and the other one was in England, doing I don't even know what. In the end, I got more invested in Theo and Bonnie than I was in Logan and Cassie.

On the plus side, the book was easy to read despite the frustration and I got invested unlike some other books I read recently.

A delightful and charming debut novel with a very HOT SCOT that you can’t help but fall for! In this new novel, Getting Hot With Scot, by author Melonie Johnson, we meet Cassie and Logan, two opposites who couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Cassie is on a trip of a lifetime and Logan is looking for his next “hit” sketch… how do they meet you ask… oh you just have to read because it is ridiculously comical, yet so HOT that you wish you could be in Cassie’s shoes. A hot “Highlander” in a kilt, a “desperate” to complete her trip bucket come together and couldn’t have happened at a better time.

Logan and Cassie take you on a crazy fun ride… from Scotland to the US and with lots of humor, chemistry, sexy moments, sweet moments, and definitely plenty of swoon-worthy moments. Getting Hot With The Scot kicks of this new Sometimes In Love series in the best possible way. I enjoyed my time spent with an array of interesting characters… imagining who may be next to fall in love. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

First off I want to say how much I enjoyed this book. This is a lovely story, with engaging characters and a beautiful romance. All the characters are superbly portrayed and relatable, making this a real page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into. The story was fresh, fun and well written.

Logan is a wonderful character, a devil-may-care internet host. He is charming, caring and sexy as hell. Cassie is sassy and kind. A chance encounter involving a kilted Highlander and time travel shenanigans and both their worlds are turned upside down. What starts as a fling turns into a beautiful love story.

I was just on the edge of my seat waiting for Cassie and Logan to figure out their emotions and feelings.

This book was super cute and I am excited to read more from this new-to-me author!

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I haven't read anything by this author before, but the books in this series sounded cute and I wanted to give them a try! I'm glad I did as I ended up really enjoying this novel! Cassie and Logan's chemistry fairly leapt off the page and I didn't want to put the book down. There were definitely some cheesy parts but the ending was very romantic. Logan was a little thick-headed but I loved how much he was swept off his feet with his feelings for Cassie. I've already read it at this point but while reading this novel I was drawn into the connected story of Bonnie and Theo and just couldn't wait to read the next one in the series. As a reader I especially liked the tie in with literacy in this book and that Cassie advocated for women to be able to read whatever they want, whether it be romance or something else. People shouldn't be shamed for reading what they enjoy, any form of reading and creativity should be encouraged and enjoyed! Reading this book made me smile and while it wasn't an overly complex or thought-provoking read, I enjoyed it and that's what should matter.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is book one in her new Sometimes in Love series.

Meet Cassie Crow, she and her best friends are on vacation, travelling through Europe and they just arrived in beautiful Scotland. She's a broadcast journslist and life is good. When she mmets a irresistible hunk of a ginger scot her fate is about to change again.

Logan Reid is a man of many talents. And one of it is being a prankmaster on his own show. When he mmets Cassie he doesn't know yet that he met his mistress. They butt heads like crazy, just like their chemistry is a crazy one.

The story is excellent written, beautifully thought out and beautifully told with a great storyline. It's a rom/com of the finest, I greatly enjoyed the bicker and banter of the couple, the twists and turns that kept me at the edge of my seat.
I read the book, cover to cover in one sitting and give 4,5 stars.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson, I really enjoyed the book. The story of Logan and Cassie had me feeling like I was traveling with them, and enjoying the trip with them. I loved the story of the five friends and their long planned vacation. Each with their own stories, and the one always fascinated visiting certain sights. It was very enjoyable!!! You'll laugh and enjoy this story!! Thank you for NetGalley for allowing me to read this book, I really really enjoyed it!!

My rating: 3.5 / 5 stars

Overall, this is a strong romance that gave me all the feels. I loved the main characters, and I thought there was a lot of good chemistry between Cassie and Logan. I'm glad I got the chance to read this, and I hope to get to read and review the next books in the series--the stage has been set and those stories have a lot of promise as well! Here's a breakdown of my thoughts on Getting Hot with the Scot:

The good:
*I always love descriptions of different cultures and when there is a kind of culture-clash romance, and we get that in spades here. Logan's Scottish accent is adorable, and you really get the feeling that part of the draw between Cassie and Logan is those differences. You can really FEEL it.
*I thought the plot was pretty fun (aside from a portion where it felt like nothing happened--see below) and I loved the stubbornness of both the main characters and how that gets in their way to some extent.
*There was great chemistry between the main characters and you really felt the romantic tension.
*I thought Cassie and Logan were both really relateable and I loved that we got chapters from each of their points of view.

The not-so-good (for me):
*There were a lot of characters in Cassie's friend group to keep track of, and I had a hard time keeping them straight. I found myself saying "wait, which one is she?" and flipping back to remind myself who they were and how they fit into the group. I think if I read this whole series, I will get to know them well, and that won't be a problem. But I didn't love it as it broke up the flow of the story for me.
*There was a bit of dead time in the middle without enough conflict to keep the story moving forward. I'm keeping this spoiler-free, so I won't be specific, but it felt like after an initial conflict and resolution, there was just this kind of boring interlude where nothing happened, prior to the final conflict and resolution again. I mean, I did love that the characters felt real and complex and messy, but I did get a little bored.
*The writing style was almost too simple for me. I would have liked more descriptions of what people were wearing or places and such. Some of my favorite scenes included a vivid setting. I wanted more of that.

If you like contemporary romances and hot Scottish guys, then this book is for you. It's not perfect, but it's definitely a fun read and a solid first in a series. I look forward to the next installment!

From their freshman year in college, Cassie and her friends may a promise to each other that they would take a European vacation five years after graduation. So that's is where they are. Finishing up their trip in Scotland and then London. All Cassie wants out of this trip is to end her dry spell in the bedroom, but as the trip comes to a close, it doesn't look as though that is going to happen. And then she sees the man she's be waiting for. A long-haired redhead in a kilt named Logan Reid. Could it be more perfect? Cassie throws all her inhibitions to the side and goes for what she wants. Will the be just a vacation fling or something much more.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book. I'm participating in a blog tour for this title next week on my blog, so be sure to check it out. There will be an author interview as well as an audiobook excerpt for the book.

First of all, I would just like to say that I wish I had a good group of girlfriends I could travel around Europe with, or even just explore things here in my own hometown. When Cassie embarked on this journey with her friends, in the back of her mind, she was hoping for a romantic fling in a foreign country. She has never been the relationship type and so, a fling is all she needs to get her over this dry spell.

Logan Reid is Scotland's jokster, his show Shenanigans is gaining quite a bit of attention in Europe as well as across the pond. When Cassie throws herself at him, he is shocked to say the very least, but from that moment forward, she has a hold on him, that he can't seem to shake. Logan is not the relationship type either, but what this woman is doing to him, could change all of that.

From Europe to Chicago, will these two find love they so desperately are trying to avoid, or will they enjoy their fling and go on about their lives?

I really enjoyed reading this book and am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. This was a fun and charming read with very relatable and likable characters. I loved to follow their Shenanigans - and I loved to see the connection between Cassie and Logan grow from their turbulent start to something much more. You could feel the sparks and you felt with them.
Some more talking about the things that count, might have been helpful at times though. It was sweet to see Logan fight for Cassie when he finally realizes that she is much more than a one-night-stand and not just due to a certain piece of paper that she might want to sign or not.

Things aren't that easy though when two people live on different continents and have to go back to their real life at one point but perhaps, if the stakes are high, someone might be willing to risk it all....
This book was sweet, charming and nice, so this was my first book by Melonie Johnson but it definitely won't be my last. I loved how close all those friends were and how well they looked after each other so I really can't wait to read more about them and their loves.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson was such a fun read! Who among us hasn't imagined a hot little vacation fling?

The only problem for Cassie: She's been on a Eurotrip with four girl friends, and the fling just hasn't materialized. Never mind, there are castles to be explored and whisky to be sipped - and oh, hey, a sexy Scot in a kilt. Yup. This book goes all the way there.

And then it dials it back to reality really quickly (as all vacations must come to an end). I liked the way Johnson structured the plot, as well as the cast of characters she developed - especially Logan's family, and that Cassie had more than one friend! (The woman with just one close friend has always struck me as a strange feature of so many romcoms.) These characters felt like people, not like two-dimensional romantic leads.

There are certainly some steamy bits, but I'd say this one is too plot-forward for me to label it a steamy romance (though do expect sex scenes). And the language - oh, the language. Getting Hot with the Scot took me about an extra half hour to read because I kept highlighting and looking up Scottish slang terms - love! This is the first in a series, and I just know I'll be picking up the rest, which (so far) follow the women featured in this book. I need to know what happens to my favorites!

I am new to Ms Johnson’s writing. Sometimes it’s a gamble when you try a new to you author on whether or not you are going to like their writing style. I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. I thought the plot was different than what I have read lately. I loved the witty and fun relationship Cassie has with her friends. I really liked reading Logan’s narration with the Scottish slang and all. Even though I had to google some of it, it was hilarious to read. Over all it was super sweet and pretty sexy book. I would recommend it and look for ward to reading the next book in the series.

I must admit … it took me a bit to get into the book. I kept with it …. and I’m glad that I did. It’s always a great privilege to be able to read and review a book in advance, and want to thank Melonie, the publisher, and NetGalley for letting me be a part of this one. I love stories with friends, sisters, towns. That way, you never have to lose the characters. It will be fun to see where the gals go …

Getting Hot with the Scot is a debut romantic comedy that you don't want to miss. Cassie is on a dream vacation with her best friends, and has one thing left to do on her "to do list", and Logan is the perfect match at least she thought so. Little does Cassie know that Logan is setting this meeting up as a prank for the filming of his show. Now can Logan make up to Cassie once she returns to the states.

This was such a fun book to read, so many laugh out loud moments. Great sexual chemistry between them. Loved the dialogue and banter between them. I'm looking forward to reading much more from this author.

I tried my best to get into Hot with the Scot, but with it being told in 3rd person and shifting between characters within the chapters got to me and I was unable to finish the story because it was so hard for me to follow,
