Katherine Center is one of my favorite authors and Things you save in a fire was already beloved by me before I read page one. The book had a predictable storyline but still was enjoyable. Cassie's earnestness is what endeared her to me. The book also feels like the tv show 911, which I think came much later. I would recommend this novel to my romcom loving friends.

I find this author to be hit or miss for me, I'm afraid.... I realize I'm in the minority here and will keep plugging through their releases so as to not miss a hit. Thanks for the opportunity to review this!

I think I loved this one more than her first title. Slightly hesitant to read the third book because the first two read so similarly. I’ll wait until I’m in the mood for this type of read.

I love Katherine Center. I find all her books fun and enjoyable. This was an incredible read and one that made me strop and think about what I would do if I was put in this situation.

Katherine Center is such an amazing author. Her latest book, THING YOU SAVE IN A FIRE is my new all-time favorite. It's a wonderful tale about love, anger, strength, and forgiveness. So many emotions abound in this book.

In this story, we follow Cassie Hanwell, a female firefighter/medic. As the only lady in the firehouse, Cassie has so much to prove. Her traumatic past makes her tough and strong. Unfortunately, it also makes her hard to trust people, let alone having a romantic relationship. Her estranged and ailing mother, Diana, tries to teach her about love, compassion, and forgiveness. At first, Cassie refuses to listen, then she meets Owen, the rookie at the new firehouse she works for. And everything change.

THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE is a feel-good book with a plot that easy to follow. It's that kind of book that you can guess where the story is going, but the ending still surprises you. And when you're done, you're left with that warm and fuzzy feeling.

This was my first Katherine Center book and it did not disappoint. I love the firehouse setting and hearing about how Cassie navigated being in such a male=dominated career. I thought the romance was really well done with it being a central part of the book but also allowing Cassie to be a fully-formed character with other things going on. I really enjoyed Cassie's mom and their relationship as well. At the beginning I wasn't sure if I was going to love this book since I wasn't drawn in until she got to her new firehouse, but once I got into it, I loved it. Five stars from me and I will be reading more Katherine Center in the future.

I usually don't like books like this, but I have to tell you, Things You Save in a Fire was thoroughly enjoyable. Cassie Hanwell is a firefighter who has faced her share of adversity. Through her journey, we see her learn about love and forgiveness particularly with oneself. Katherine Center is a fantastic storyteller I'm looking forward to reading more of her works.

This was a great book about a strong, determined female firefighter. Growing up, she was abandoned by her mother and raised by her father. Years later, her mother needs help, and she moves in to help her mother and heal as well. This was a great story about family and healing and love and saving yourself.

Things You Save in a Fire is my favorite Katherine Center book yet! Cassie Hanwell is a firefighter in Texas, loving her job and her life when she gets a call from her ailing mother in Boston, asking her to come home and help care for her. Cassie agrees reluctantly, uprooting her life. She accepts a job transfer to a new station in Boston, where the team makes her feel less than welcome and she has to work twice as hard to gain their respect. She also ends up training the Rookie, a sweetheart of a guy that she ends up falling for. The characters are wonderfully sweet, vulnerable and very lovable, overcoming all challenges thrown their way. Cassie learns about forgiveness, equality, strength, integrity and love and shows her determination in all things.

I didn't really enjoy Katherine Center's last book, but I figured I would give this one a shot. I did not enjoy the writing or the main charactef, and the story was very bland.

A romantic self love journey. The protagonist gives insight into family dynamics, allowing herself to be loved by a friend/lover and carving herself into her profession. A great read.

Again, I feel so fortunate to have met the author on several occasions in Houston. Not only is she a gifted writer but she's an incredibly warm and generous person. That said, I found these very same qualities in the the characters she gave life to in this book. I'll be honest. I've never given much thought to what the life of a female firefighter is like. Center provided such an education and in doing so, dealt with so many issues that ALL humans experience: fear, betrayal, violence, abandonment, self-doubt, forgiveness, self-actualization and most importantly, love. Like a fire that starts slow and grows into a blaze, watching Cassie's heart come alive for her mom, the rookie and herself was amazing to witness. Center doesn't sugar coat things like harassment and drug dependence and because of it, her story and her characters are so much more believable and relatable. I've been following Center since her first book was published and she started her writing career in Houston. I see such growth in this book and her writing and her character development is deeper and richer to boot. I'm so appreciative for the chance to read this book prior to publication. Katherine Center remains an author I can count on and one I know will give me a book to eat, drink, sleep and breathe.

I really loved this book! So much so that I read it in under 24 hours. Cassie is a firefighter and excels at her job but her personal life is a mess. She remains emotionally detached from everyone as a coping mechanism, after her mother left her with her father when she was 16, and after another traumatic event that happened at the same time. She is well liked and respected at the firehall where she is currently working in Texas. She has had limited contact over the years with her mother so she is annoyed when her mother calls and asks her to move to Massachusetts to help her following eye surgery. Her mother would like her to come for a year and Cassie is adamant she is not going. Cassie unfortunately becomes involved in a controversial incident that threatens her job and at the urging of her father, Cassie decides to go and help her mother and transfer to a new firehall. Once she arrives she struggles with gaining respect at the firehall and in rebuilding the relationship with her mother. Cassie slowly begins to build trust and a romance with a rookie at her firehall. As the story unfolds everything falls into place. This is a great character driven story with wonderful dialogue. The characters were well developed and the writing is great. This is a charming story you don’t want to miss.

Like all Katherine Center stories, it is an excellently written book with a good rhythm, excellent plot and characters. You love the protagonist from the beginning, a young woman but already professional and excellent in her work; strong of character, very disciplined and competitive in everything she does but at the same time sweet, good, of the beautiful intentions. With a painful past determined to make her life she finds that life is not as difficult and strong as she imagined and that there is always room for forgiveness, love and empathy. Beautiful book full of teachings, always showing the unique style of the author, where she always writes to deepen, learn and meditate. A tender romance and exquisite style of the author and a phenomenal ending. I always love her book titles and book covers this is a perfect addition.
