Four executives, (Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam) work for Wall Street in Finance. All they care about is money. They are told by human resources to go to a building for a mandatory, team building meeting. They all enter an elevator and are all on their phones when the door closes. The elevator named the "escape room" is an exercise to work together to get out. But this exercise is way beyond team building. Now they are fighting to just stay alive.

A fantastic book filled with suspense. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book.
A thoroughly fun and entertaining read.

This was an unexpected surprise! What an enthralling and enjoyable read. The author kept me on my toes and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I really liked how the author alternated between storylines. It kept the reader interested in the plot and engaged us in a fast-paced race to the next chapter. This was a fantastic novel and must read.

Megan Goldin did an amazing job writing The Escape Room where a game goes terribly wrong for the four characters. This book is an intense thriller that will have you turning the pages and wanting to finish the book the same day. Megan Goldin was a new author for me and I honestly can not wait to read more from her. There were several twist and turns that leaves you aching to know what happens at the end to all the characters. Do they escape alive? Do they find out who set them up? Who will survive in this thriller novel. This is a 5 star book where Megan Goldin has definitely made her way onto my bookshelf for future need to read books. Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy!!! This is a must read for all!

I received an advanced digital copy of this book from Netgalley.com and St. Martin's Press. Thank you to both for the opportunity to read and review.

A story of the cut-throat world of investment banking and the people, most of whom lost their morals and ethics in the course of their careers, who work in this high pressure field. This novel is extremely well written with a cast of loathsome characters. The protagonist's story will keep you guessing. Suspenseful and edgy with an ending that will surprise you.

Add this book to your must read list of 2019.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this ARC of The Escape Room by Megan Goldin.

Vincent, Jules, Sylvie and Sam are all high powered Wall Street executives, who will do whatever it takes to stay at the top, even at the expense of personal life and physical and mental health. But their standing at work becomes threatened due to layoffs, and desperate to keep their positions and paychecks, they agree to meet for a last minute business meeting. They are to participate in a team building activity, an Escape Room. But what starts at a harmless looking game, soon turns threatening, maybe even deadly, especially when clues of their former colleagues who have since passed start emerging.

I had so much fun with this book. I loved the back and forth chapters. I thought the character development was well written. It's a completely unbelievable thriller, but it's an absolute blast anyway.

4.5 stars. This one started out a little slow for me and I have to say initially there wasn't a single character that I could relate to or that I liked at all. Once I got past the first few chapters I felt like the story completely escalated but the last 20% of the book was by far the best.
I don't identify with the large corporate world but I have a feel on wall street and in similar situations in NY this story could actually be fairly true. When Sara Hall begins the search for her new corporate life in New York vs. Chicago she struggles to find what she's looking for. When she gets everything she thinks she ever wanted she starts to learn quickly that things might not always be what they seem and that many people will always look out for #1, no matter the cost to anyone else.

I loved this book. It was action packed and full of surprises. I will want to read this writer's work again. The ending was perfect!

Very clever plot. New hire finds everyone is against her. And ultimately she gets fired on trumped up charges. But she patiently - very patiently - plots the perfect revenge and finds a way to get back at the shameless quartet. Great characters and an interesting plot. You won’t see this coming

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review. Better block away about three hours of your time, because once you open this story it will be impossible to put down! Vincent, Jules, Sylvie and Sam are greedy Wall Street warriors, always looking to earn more and more money, but has their greed gone too far?
All four of them find themselves trapped in an elevator for what they believe is a "team building" exercise, but what they don't know, may kill them.

I really don't want to give away any spoilers, but this story is a great one!

Fun read containing an elevator escape room, a shady investment firm, and coworkers who might just murder to get ahead!

The Escape Room offers a look inside the powerful world of New York’s investment banking. This book could be described as similar to The Wolf of Wall Street, however the author artfully weaves in a story of loss between the contrasting present day escape room and the events that led up to that very elevator.

I could not put down this electrocharged and exciting read in a powerful story of greed and how far those will go for money. Sara Hall is the epitome of very MBA graduate, a load of student loan debt and no job prospects on the horizon. Until she meets Vincent on the elevator at Stanhope. Stanhope & Sons offers the ideal backdrop into the lucrative NY Investment scene – ludicrous amounts of money, insanely high standards and best of all reputation.

Megan Goldin’s sophomore novel, proves she’s an author to follow. The Escape Roomblew my expectations out of the water…or should I say elevator.

I liked the plot if this book I thought it was really creative and fresh and I've read a ton of thrillers. I gave this book 3.5 stars only because at times I felt the book dragged on after a couple of chapters. It didn't really keep me hooked or hanging on every word until the very end.

To be honest, I did not expect to like this. Honestly, I don't even remember why I requested it! That being said, I really did enjoy this, and it exceeded my (albeit low) expectations.

What happens if a group of Wall Street stock brokers, who work together are trapped in an elevator? In this book, they are forced to follow clues to escape from the elevator. Each clue relates to their crimes or misdeeds in their lives. As the time in the elevator drags on, the tension rising is palpable in each page. I, along with the characters, was trying to determine who was responsible for holding them captive.

There are two plots within the story. There's the drama unfolding inside the elevator, which takes place in the present. Then there is what happened in the past told to the from the voice of Sara Hall, a former coworker. As the two plots unfold, they collide for an exciting story that is both disturbing and intriguing.

This was an intriguing story and it kept me on the edge of my seat with twists and turns. I did,
however, find the characters unlikeable.

Wow... this was such a fun ride!!

I wouldn't categorize The Escape Room as a psychological thriller per say. But, it definitely keeps you turning those pages and wondering what is going on!!

Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are the pure elite that work for Wall Street in Finance. Talk about having more money then you could dream off with these four. Nothing matters but getting more and more money to them while making their way to the top.

The four of them are required to complete a team building activity in an elevator called the "escape room". They have to try and get out of this locked elevator... but somehow it no longer is a team building activity and they're all fighting to stay alive.

What could possibly go wrong in this dark elevator between the four of them? Oh..... darkness unfolds at every wall and crevice between them that will leave your mind shattered with the end results!!

I can tell you... those greedy ass characters will get their cake and some ;).

This was a purely fun and entertaining ride! I thoroughly enjoyed Megan Goldin's writing style and appreciate how unique this book was in all.

Definitely recommend this to be on your TBR... one not to be missed!

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 stars rounded up. This was an absorbing, crazy and enjoyable read. Sure it's not going to win any literary awards, but the plot - albeit somewhat unrealistic at times - was gripping and I thoroughly enjoyed the protagonist.

4 Stars!!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing the ARC for an honest review :)

Hold your breath...don't let it out. Turn up the heat-go in a small space, lock yourself in along with 4 people you tolerate but also cant stand...and stay there until I say so...doesn't that sound amazing?? Yeah... NO. Seriously, just typing that made me feel sweaty and claustrophobic....

Its a dog eat dog world in the Corporate Banking Industry. The story follows four top investment bankers who are sent an email to meet for a very important meeting. When they get there- they enter an Escape Room elevator thinking its for a team building exercise. The longer they are there trying to escape,

they become desperate facing thirst, hunger, fear, heat, and rage. They start to wonder if the whole "exercise" is really what they are there for.

The escape room was thrilling and character driven, the stakes are high as anxieties rise. The book is told in two alternating POVs: third person and real time. I swear the whole time I read this book I was in a constant state of anxiety..

I usually binge read but I couldn't with this one. A part of me COULD NOT WAIT to find out what the heck was going on, but the other psychotic part of my brain thought it would be fun to drag it out... so that I could continue to feel the thrill of it. I know- what the hell Brittany?? I'm strange sometimes, what can I say. Overall, I really enjoyed it- it was a bit fluffy at times but it worked. I know for dang sure- the last thing I want to do is go to an escape room. And an elevator?? No thanks- I'll be taking the stairs.
