This book was a wonderful surprise, nothing trite or expected. The story of a marriage, where the wife is the partner who is driven and because of her olympic ambitions and a mildly handicapped child, Matt and Elise are put under tremendous strain. Elise is a champion Dressage rider, it is this love of her sport that was involved in her daughter’s disability.
To settle their financial and emotional issues the couple goes to Lake Placid, to sell the cabin and acreage of Matt’s idolized grandfather. There, in one of the most beautiful places in North America (my own opinion), the unthinkable happens, their beloved daughter, Gracie is kidnapped. The unimaginable pain of a missing child causes the intusion of many other issues. The reader is confronted with the questions of trust, secrets and marital survival.
Both Matt and Elise have to face many truths, difficult and unpredictable. Every description is so vivid that I totally felt involved and pictured each character.
The characters are so well developed and their motivations so clear that I couldn’t put the book down until the book came to an close and resolution for these 2 very likable characters
Cohen does a wonderful job of drawing the reader into the lives of Matt and Elise, no villains, only people struggling with many difficult situations.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this very lovely book.
