This book is a good fit for readers who enjoy stories about determination, overcoming adversity, and unexpected attractions set in a contemporary sports context.
Charile, a young woman raised by a single father, who is also a well known football coach, she decides to try to find her way by becoming a head football coach for a team in Minnesota (she is from Georgia). Naturally, the other coaches and some of the fathers are not happy, and fit her along the way. Connor had expected to get the position, so he is a big obstacle. Of course, sparks fly between them too, and leads to a different relationship. Did like this one overall, but was easy to skim at times too. Still though, would recommend even though my knowledge of football is limited.
I tried many times to read this book but the miscommunication and cliched gender tropes drove me a little crazy! I decided this book was not for me.
Slow story. But one of a female coach which isn’t too common. The story was a little slow to start. I had to pick it up several times to finish
This was different than I was expecting, but was a quick read. The characters were sweet and would probably be perfect for someone younger than me to read.
I hopelessly romantic readers dream!
I can't get enough of sports romances and this did met if not exceeded all expectations!
This was a short quick read. I liked it overall but it’s not a book I would recommend for readers looking for a romance. I wasn’t much invested in the main couple and I hated Connor. I loved Charlie though and she was the main reason I stayed with this book till the end. So overall a nice story but not the best enemies to lovers book out there
This book was a fun, quick read. Exactly what I was looking for. I love a good hate-to-love romance, it's my favorite trope, and Charlie and Connor definitely delivered. Some of the gender stereotypes around girls in sports were a tad too cliche, but it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the book. Lean into it and you're in for a fun, flirty time!
I wanted so badly to love this one, the premise sounded so great. I enjoyed the heroine’s career choice and character but I could not get into the chemistry between her and the hero. It was a little bit too much of a hate to love and I decided to DNF.
This cover is what drew my attention from the get go!! This was a fun light romance that took place on (and off) the football field! I fell in love with Charlie and liked Connor (he's a guy, so he's pretty much a knuckle head lol). I REALLY enjoyed the female friendships that Charlie developed with her new girl gang. I would love to see more stories about all of them!! Overall, a fun read that left me with a happily ever after ending <3 ARC galley kindly provided by Gallery Books in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the idea of reading about a female coach, but unfortunately, the romance in this one didn't work for me. The arguing came off as arguing rather than bantering, and I didn't feel the chemistry between the two.
Sidelined was super cute! I especially loved Charlie's character. She's an empowering woman who knows that she is smart, and does nothing to diminish that. With women becoming coaches for what are normally men's sports, this book was published at an excellent time.
Sidelined was a quick, fast-paced read that highlights female empowerment in what is normally a "man's world." The book was cute and flirty, although I wish there was more romance. I am a big fan of football, so I especially enjoyed this one.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me an advance reader copy!
I really enjoyed reading this one that I received thanks to Netgalley. There's just something wonderful about a female in a typically male position that makes me cheer those characters on, and this one was done exceptionally well.
He lost out on his dream job but in the end he gained something much more. Great sports romance and totally refreshing.
I honestly lost interest in this book and probably won’t pick this up again, I feel like this may be my fault for not being able to commit to this book. I still wanted to give it a try but it didn’t keep my attention. DNF
Three stars: I enjoyed the parts of the book centered around a female breaking into the male dominated world of football, but the romance lacked chemistry.
Charlie has spent her entire life living and breathing football. She is excited when she finally lands a job as a high school football coach. On her first day, Charlie encounters male pushback and hostility. She has a lot to prove, and in order to do it she must win the trust of her colleagues and her players. To make matters worse, there are plenty who don’t think she can do the job, and it doesn’t help that she makes an enemy of her assistant coach, Connor, before she even gets to school. What follows is a season of ups and downs as Charlie learns the ropes, but will she succeed?
What I Liked:
*I was excited to read a book featuring a female football coach. I enjoyed watching Charlie push to succeed in a male dominated world. She had a tough task ahead of her to turn around a losing football team around, but to also do it and prove that a female can coach football is a tall task. It was fun to see Charlie have successes and failures in her first season as a football coach.
*I thought the author did a great job of incorporating football into the story. Whether you are a fan of football or not, I think you can appreciate this book. There isn’t so much football that it will confuse a non football fan, while enough to make the football angle believable.
*Charlie is a strong female protagonist. I admired her tenacity and her determination. She has more to prove than any man in her role, and she tackles everything with ferocity. She is stubborn and doesn’t let anything or anyone stand in her way. She also has a softer side, and I liked seeing her let her guard down here and there.
*Another aspect that I enjoyed was the strong formation of female friendships. Before moving to Minnesota, Charlie never had any real female friends. Luckily, she quickly makes some new friends. I liked that she was willing to let her guard down and let the women in. I am always a fan of stories that feature strong, supportive female friendships.
*I loved Connor’s family. It was a joy to see how devoted Connor was to his mother and sisters, and especially to his brother with special needs. I thought Connor’s relationship with Sean was one of the highlights of the book.
*The book ends with a nice happy ending. All the loose ends are tied up, and things move forward in a positive direction.
And The Not So Much:
*I was not a fan of the romance. Things start off rocky between Connor and Charlie. There is plenty of friction and lots of antagonistic banter. I thought I was going to be in for a fun treat, but it never happened. The romance suddenly goes from bickering to lust. I didn’t think the author took enough time to establish a strong friendship and develop the chemistry. The whole thing felt hurried. I never got behind the relationship. It was a fizzle.
*I got irritated time and time again the way the romance was on again off again. I personally thought Charlie was annoying, especially when she acted insecure and pushed Connor away with her snide remarks. I thought she was irritating.
*The book builds to a dramatic climatic point, and then suddenly the big conflict is solved quickly. It felt like a rushed, patented happily ever after ending. I wasn’t a fan of how easily things turned around.
Sidelined is a book that I wanted to love, but I never got behind the rushed romance. I wanted more antagonistic banter and the establishment of a strong friendship with chemistry. I enjoyed the football aspects, and I appreciated seeing Charlie work to prove herself in a male dominated field. However the lackluster romance and the ready made happy ending made this a miss for me. Plenty of other readers are liking this one so do some research and see if it is for you.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I thought the cover of this book looked like a fun read and I was absolutely right. This is a fun, easy to read book.
This is such a fun series and I adored this story about a female in an unexpected role. I can't wait to read more books by Baltsar, hopefully in this series.
I loved this book! I loved Suzanne’s first book, Trouble Brewing, and this one didn’t disappoint. While the plot line connected the two books it also carried it’s own story. The main character being a strong female football coach, yet a feminine voice was great. I felt empowered and felt the love story. I hope there is more to this series!
This book was an amazing read. When I started the book, I was expecting just another underdog romance where the heroine overcomes all obstacles and ends up with the guy in the end. Though you could say that was the general storyline, I was happily surprised. The amount of comedy and the intelligent banter between the main characters was so enjoyable and the slow build of their relationships hook me in on an emotional level. There were times where I wanted to scream at both of them and I could not put the book down!
I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good sports based romance with the unique twist of them both being coaches rather than players.
