This is a part of a series and she gives a fairly good accounting of who is who, I personally like to start from the beginning. In this book we have the originals and honestly the main characters of Morgan and Lance who are a couple and work together and their relationship just keeps growing. They were awoken at night by a friend who let them know that her child was missing and the dad was found dead at home. Next comes the conflicts and chaos that resume but Morgan and Lance will work hard to figure out who is the culprit and the lies that are hiding..Suspenseful..Enjoy!
This is the first book by Melinda Leigh that I’ve read & I already know I’m a fan. Secrets Never Die has a fast paced plot. There was a lot going on but the reader is not lost in the speed. The characters are complex & well rounded. The touch of romance was enough to lighten a little of the darkness but not so much to take your attention away from the drama. With all of the secrets & the number of suspects, I’ll admit, I never figured it out. I love that the writer seemed to know exactly how long to draw it out & keep it believable. Excellent plot & excellent writing!
Just when you think Leigh can’t write anything more engaging then the last book, she pulls you in again! Morgan, Lance, and Sharp are in a new investigation while dealing with sick kids, new roles, and recovering from past injuries.
A teen is missing, his stepfather murdered, and he is hurt. The sheriff suspects the teen, but Lance, his hockey coach, knows he didn’t do it. Morgan immediately agrees to represent him. Can they find him in time and clear his name?
This book is another nonstop ride of action and suspense. You won’t want to put it down!
Morgan is a defense attorney, has three little girls and is a widow. Lance is a PI and Morgan’s boyfriend. They work together in the same office because she uses Lance’s company when she needs an investigator. When a teenage boy is accused of murdering his stepfather, a former deputy, he goes on the run. Morgan and Lance will do anything to find him first and help clear his name. When several secrets are revealed can they save the boy before something bad happens?
First time reading this author and it was great. Suspense and action. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. Don’t want to give too much away that’s why it’s so short.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
Desperate to find her son who is missing and the prime suspect in the murder of her husband Tina calls her sons coach to help find him.
As with all cases, detectives profile suspects and scope the crime scene for clues. Michelle provided a well thought out story using all police strategies during this crime scene investigation. Police procedure was followed and a storyboard was created to organized the facts.
As the story progresses Morgan and Lance insert themselves into the case working with the police to find Evan. This is my first read from the Morgan Dane series, yet it’s not Morgan and Lance’s first appearance in the series. While they are the main characters I felt they weren’t the only main characters.
With this being a character driven detective story I felt the minor characters crowded the main story. Olivia and Lincoln were the two characters that didn’t add anything significant to the story.
This read like a CSI episode. The characters personal lives mixed in with work procedures blended well. It added a personal touch to the lives of these characters who work in a dangerous environment, yet return home to family with hugs and smiles.
Overall: it was well written, yet something was missing. I wasn’t completely engaged in the storyline. I’m guessing it’s due to the crowding of minor characters in the story. These side stories drew me away.
I received an advanced copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
This is one of my favorite series out there. This story picks up a few months after the last book. The story really only takes place over the course of a few days, but there is a lot going on. I got into this series because I read Melinda Leigh's Scarlet Falls trilogy which covers Morgan's siblings. I wish those characters made more appearances in this series since they are siblings and are geographically close.
Morgan and Lance are getting into the groove of domesticity. I'm happy to see that side moving forward and the author not creating drama for them. They've had enough. They should be happy. We also see some more of Sharp and Olivia. I expect more to come on that front.
My only issue with getting this book as an ARC is not I have to wait even longer before I read the next one!
O m g this was enjoyable read it had me intrigued and held my attention and I didn’t want to put it down any wait to try more from the author totally recommend reading it
An enjoyable, quick read that kept me guessing and ended on a high note. Love the Morgan Dane series, in general.
Secrets Never Die is another story involving private investigator Lance and his now fiancée, attorney Morgan. Now living together with Morgan’s 3 children and her grandfather their relationship is as deep and loving as ever.
They are phoned in the middle of the night by the mother of Evan, a hockey player in the team Lance coaches. Evan has gone missing after his stepfather is found dead at home. Not having any faith in the local sheriff she asks Lance to help find her son.
So starts an exciting nail biting thriller, there are some extremely well written descriptive scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat, with a cast of characters that jump off the page.
A wonderful read, you do not have to have read other stories in this series but I guarantee if this is your first dip into these romantic mysteries you’ll be ready to jump in and read all the previous ones.
My thanks to net galley and publisher Montlake for the opportunity to review this book.
Somehow, this series just bets better with each book! The cases they investigate are intense and have great suspense involved but once again, I find myself rooting for Morgan and Lance as a couple.
I honestly hope this series goes on forever as I’ve become so invested in the characters and just can’t imagine having to say goodbye,
This is another excellent book, which can be read alone but I highly recommend reading the whole series because it’s so good!
Lance now lives with Morgan and her family. They are awakened in the wee hours of the morning by the mother of one of Lance's at risk kids on the hockey team he coaches. Her husband is dead and her son is missing.
Sharp is still recovering from his injuries. He continues to frown at Morgan's coffee and donuts while pushing his healthy lifestyle on her. It's amusing. Watching him dance around Olivia is entertaining. I really like her for him. She is a strong female character, which Leigh is good at writing. I'm looking forward to the development of their relationship.
While I love that Morgan and Lance are a solid, established, mature, strong couple, I missed the romance and heat of earlier books. I get that the progression of their relationship is necessary, but it just seems that it progressed to domesticity a little too quick for me.
This is another solid read. The mystery is engaging. I always look forward to the next book when the one I'm reading ends.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.
This is a heart stopping murder mystery that has you on the edge of your seat, but I think what I like best about this whole series is the characters. I loved the undertones of attraction between Sharp and Olivia in this story. You can feel the heat growing between them and Sharp’s resistance to it is amusing, especially as Olivia seems totally aware of it and plays on it well. Lance’s adaptation to being a parent is heartwarming and the growth of his relationship with Morgan and her girls is beautiful. The author expertly weaves a captivating plot with the lives of the characters, making you invested in both the story and the characters lives.
Putting to words how fantastic this book is won't be easy, but I'll try.
This book was AMAZING! I'm not kidding.. I was on the edge of my seat, and totally clueless to who the bad guy was right up until the author revealed who it was.
Gripping, edge of your seat, nailbiting excitement from start to finish.
I am always in awe of how exciting Melinda Leighs books are, and this one was off the charts. You won't be able to put it down once you start to read it. My heart was in my throat for most of the book. You get pulled into the story, and you become a big roller coaster of emotions while you try to figure out how things are going to work out for everyone involved in the story. I always look forward to seeing a new book by Melinda Leigh, and if you haven't read her books.. omg..what are you waiting for? Every book I read by this author becomes a favourite that will definitely be read again in the future. Well deserved 5 stars.
A must read. Once again Melinda Leigh keeps you riding along on the journey of murder, mystery, and love. Scarlet Falls is where Morgan is a defense attorney, and her fiancé Lance, is a Private Investigator at the firm headed by his best friend Lincoln Sharp. I enjoy this series and even though you can read them stand alone knowing the history makes them that much better. Morgan as usual is trying to help a young teen. This time it's Evan, who has gone missing after the murder of his step-father. At first the police and his mother are worried that he has been hurt or worse by the killer. However, the facts the police uncover lead them in the direction of Evan being the killer. Evan is now on the run as he knows the killer is a cop and can't go to them for help. Hurt and no place to go he must brave the elements not knowing where to turn. Excellent story, it keeps you interested From page one. I enjoy following the romance of Morgan and Lance. After her struggle with depression after her husband was killed in the war it is heartwarming to see her and Lance together. He adjusts to soon becoming the father of Morgan's three little girls who melt his heart with their acceptance and love for him. It's a household of warmth, and love and chaos. I thank NetGalley and Melinda Leigh for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another great intsallment in the Morgan Dane series!! Love love love!! Highly recommend.
Thank you #netgalley and #montlakeromance for the eARC.
Another outstanding Lance and Morgan book. There are lots of breath stealing scenes. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This series just gets better and better. Morgan and Lance have a new complex case and things are going to get interesting. I had to wait for the author reveal on this one because the twists and surprises just kept coming. I highly recommend this one as well as the previous ones in the series. You won't be disappointed!
“Secrets Never Die” is a fast-paced and well written thriller with the incredible complex characters who have been captivating us since the first book of the Morgan Dane series.
Familiarity and empathy with the central characters – Morgan, Dane, Sharp, and their extended family and friends - are strong elements in Melinda Leigh’s series, drawing the reader into the story, but the new characters in this story are so compelling: the brave, slightly broken young man (Ethan) and his fight for survival; his stepfather, a retired cop (Paul), a victim (whom I wished would live, because the author painted such an arresting human portrait of him).
Leigh’s talent in making her characters believable and likeable is immense, as is her writing about the subtleties of the characters’ personalities and relationships.
It’s always a pleasure to meet again Morgan and Lance and their relatives and relations.
It was a special delight to meet again tough and vulnerable Lincoln Sharp – from the fittest person to a still convalescent recovering from severe wounds and surgery. It was fun to watch him fighting his attraction to feisty journalist Olivia Cruz (“He found her attractive and he didn’t like it. Not at all”). I just wish this plotline will continue in the future.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. I have read many of Melinda Leigh’s books. This book is no different from the other’s; it grabs your attention from the start and holds it throughout the book. Great read.
4.5* What an intro to this author! I wish I'd read the previous tales, too.
This was my very first read from this author whose name I've seen around for years. I'm not sure what made me take a chance on her, tbh, but it was a great decision. I realised after that there have been several previous books in this series, but it's not necessary to have read those, as this stands alone.
I won't rehash the storyline, but I will say that I went, 'I did not see that coming.' more than once, and that the surprises kept happening. It kept my attention like MF tales don't really tend to these days, and I enjoyed the ride.
There were a couple of bits that were pretty good red herrings, and a couple of bits where I did eye-roll (mainly the scenes involving Lincoln and Olivia; I didn't really warm to the guy, so maybe I do need to go back and read the previous tales), because of the implausibility of things, and because of the fact that I could pretty much predict how things would pan out.
As for Morgan and Lance? What a great partnership and what a sweetie he was to little Sophie. I will be looking out for more in this series, as there's about to be some cementing of a HEA, it seems, and I think this partnership will continue.
