Police procedural set in small town Western Pennsylvania. A shooting in a casino parking lot is the focal point but workings and internal relationships within Penn River PD really drive the story. Level of detail and authenticity leads me to believe the writer must have some connection to a local police deapartment outside of Pittsburgh.
Ten-Seven is the fourth novel in the Penns River series featuring Detective Ben "Doc" Dougherty, however, it works very well as a standalone too. This is a wickedly plotted story that you can tell Mr King has thought long and hard about; it also moves at a brisk pace, and I admit, I raced through it in a matter of fun-filled hours. The characters are flawed, real and superbly developed. I found the whole reading experience absorbing and entertaining, as there was action galore. There are drug dealers, mob bosses and dysfunctional killers; it's just another day in Penns River. I look forward to reading more from this series in the future.
Many thanks to Down & Out Books for an ARC.
A very good mystery with an engaging plot and an interesting cast of characters.
The book is well written and the characters are fleshed out.
