This book was good at explaining the overall idea behind keto, however I feel most people already have this knowledge if they are looking into starting this diet.
Easy to read cookbook. I then a few of the recipes and they were decent. Good resource for anyone trying or would like recipes for the keto diet. Thanks t0 NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.
I've been mulling over switching to a Keto lifestyle for some time, and some medical test results last week have made my decision for me. I had already read Dr Axe's Collagen book, and know him to be one of the experts in the field.
There is a lot of information here, as well as meal plans and recipes. Because some of the ingredients are very specific, I would've liked some "real world" swaps (can I use KerryGold butter or do I have to use grass-fed?). In addition, there are so many vitamins and supplements mentioned and how they affect the body and the eating plan, and they all sound important, but what do I REALLY need? I would've liked a comprehensive chart listing all supplements and the priority order of starting them. I doubt that many people could drop hundreds of dollars at once.
But overall, there's a lot of great information here and I'll probably reread the book several times on my Keto journey.
This was a very well written cookbook. I found the layout to flow well and the recipes were easy to understand and follow along to. I look forward to trying some of them out for my family.
Because of the extent of the content in Dr Axe's book, I rounded the rating up to 4. As advertised, the book contains; shopping lists, recipes, exercise routines, explanations of the science behind keto's powerful effects, and five different keto plans and a guide to choosing the one that fits you best. That is not to say that the plan is the best thing I've ever encountered. On the contrary, it's a little too specialized for my pocketbook. I wished one of the 5 plans was how to Keto on a budget. Also I wanted more information on tweaking the program for allergies - I have issues with nuts and gluten, unfortunately. All that being said, it was easy to read, and the science makes sense.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

REVIEW FROM BOOKS FOR HER:
Everything you've read about the Keto Diet - may not be correct. I've probably spent hours looking at Keto websites, talking the friends who are trying it - and none of that prepared me for the amount of detail and research shared in the book. In fact as I informally tried the Keto diet myself, after reading the book I realized that I was doing much of it wrong. A definitely must-read for anyone serious about Keto.

Very informative, well laid out title on the keto way of eating. The recipes were an excellent addition to my keto cookbooks as well. Thanks to the publishers and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.
In the midst of the Keto Diet Craze it was nice to read a positive overview of it with a healthy slant. This isn't just about cheeseburgers and bacon, Dr. Axe gives solid healthy advice and makes this eating plan easy to understand and follow.
I learned quite a bit from this book. I am new to the keto type of diet. So I was looking for which foods fall into that category and simple but tasty recipes and snacks.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone! This is FULL of wonderful information (yes, it does tend to get a little wordy) and yummy recipes. I read over some of the reviews and it is true there is a lot of information before you get to the recipes, but if this book were written any other way it would get discounted as a "fad" diet. Dr Axe goes through all the research and documentation as well as personal accounts of successes. It is the proof of why this die works and why it is different.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Little, Brown and Company for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
An easy to read, information packed book about the science behind the ketogenic lifestyle and why it works. This was a fantastic book, not filled with complex terminology, it's perfect for the average ketogenic lifestyle beginner.
This book has great insight and facts behind the ketogenic diet and why it works. I love how easy it was to read and not boring like some health books can be. recommend
I'm a big fan of Dr. Axe and his newest book Keto Diet doesn't disappoint. It's chockful of information and medical studies. I've read some other books on Keto and this one takes the cake. I also love how it's not all about weight loss (though it is a big part of it) but he discusses keto's benefit for brain health, hormones, and cancer. He also shares various plan options for your needs whether you are a vegan or battling cancer. I also liked there is a section on intermittent fasting and how it works well with keto. At the end of the book, he talks about keto cycling which I have heard both sides from different sources. I think it's a good plan for the long haul. I don't know if cycling carbs twice a week will work for everyone. I think for me it will end up in disaster lol. Maybe twice a month.... I think everyone will be different with that.
I am going to start his plan in March and I will update with how it goes. BTW I have PCOS so I am really curious to see how it helps.
Now, why 4 stars instead of 5.... If I could I would give 4.5 stars but Amazon doesn't allow that. In his recipes especially the smoothies he recommends his keto collagen, keto protein powder, bone broth power etc. That's great and all but what if we can't afford it or don't like it, or we run out. It would have been nice if he would give us another option where we don't have to buy a blend or what happens if we are out. Like if he could have written next to it "or 2 tablespoons of college and 1 tablespoon of MTC oil."
I have recently started trying to eat the ketogenic diet. I was very happy to be able to have access to this book. It is helpful providing shopping lists and recipes. I am really interested in the science behind this diet which this book explains. I have ordered this book for the library. The cover is very attractive.
I have seen many Dr. Josh Axe webinars and have learned so much from them. When I seen this book I knew I needed to read it. He always explains everything in a way I can understand. I wanted to know all about the Keto diet and what exactly are the right foods. This was the book for me. I learned all the supplements to take, the benefits of going on a Keto diet, what are the right keto foods and many recipes to get ideas from.
I requested this book in the hope of learning more about keto-based diets, but all I got out of it was a repetitive sales pitch. I read about a third of it before giving up.
This book is very informative and has great recipes. Understanding what health benefits are available when using a keto diet are explained quite well. My family has agreed to try a keto diet/lifestyle.. Following the suggested menu and recipes will make this switch much easier.
I’ve read a couple of different keto books and I’m not very familiar with Dr. Axe so I thought I would give this one a try. What really drew me in was the balancing hormones part. I’m still a work in progress with that so it was nice to read that section. The first half of the book is full of facts and researched based information. There’s a lot to take in if you’re a newbie to keto, and can be very overwhelming. I’ve been on it for 2 years and there were a couple of things in here that I didn’t even know about. I did skim some parts that didn’t really pertain to me but he does cover a lot so there’s something in here for everyone health wise. The last half is sample meal plans and recipes. I was really interested in the keto cycling. That’s one I haven’t tried yet so I might take it for a spin to see what happens.
This is a great keto book for beginners to explain what and how keto works. This is the kind of book I needed 4 weeks ago! I loved the outline and graphs, it was very user friendly. I'm excited to try some of the recipes too.
I have been eagerly waiting for this book to be available anywhere for me to read. I have been dabbling with Keto for a couple of years and I have been following Josh Axe on Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube for quite some time too, so I really wanted to read what information he presented. I was surprised to find a couple of modifications I have normally heard are keto no-no's like the inclusion of beans (in very small amounts) but over all this book is exactly what I expected. It is full of information about what Keto is, about why it works, how it can help various ailments (cancer and depression/anxiety being of the most interest to me), and Dr. Axe has also included what supplements you should take as well. I loved that there were several meal plans laid out throughout the book depending on why you are doing the ketogenic approach, and pretty much every recipe included sounds fantastically delicious. I also liked that he talks about how to go into maintenance mode as well. Keto Diet is a great place to start for Keto beginners and also a great book for someone who has been on this ride for a while looking for new recipes. I also recommend checking out Dr. Axe's website for his awesome supplements from his wellness company Ancient Nutrition. I use the Keto Multi and it is awesome and I just ordered the Beauty + Sleep collagen to add to my regimen as well.
