Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. This was an enjoyable book.
Wonderful read with beautiful scenery and characters to learn from. When finished will post a more complete review.
This was such an enjoyable book to read! I loved that the story had continuing characters like Floyd and Gladys the seagulls; and Charlie who makes the tacos out of his truck. This can be read as a stand alone novel or read in order of the series.
Dr. Logan moves to Hope Harbor and becomes neighbors with Jeanette. They immediately hit it off but they are both hesitate to have a relationship until they can work through their own personal grief and faith to be able to allow love into their life. I especially liked Dr. Logan’s niece Molly and her child-like faith, love, and acceptance of all people. I also liked reading the side story of the Syrian family who fled to Hope Harbor for refuge.
This is such a great, easy to read, Christian fiction book. I love the peaceful town and all the characters. Can’t wait to read more in this series!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
Driftwood Bay is a beautiful story of how saying I love you can help overcome all types of situations. Often it is an expression used without great meaning but when truly meant and expressed with all sincerity it has great healing powers. I loved this book partly because it showed different outcomes when one does good things to show their love and when one says the words with heartfelt meaning. Irene Hannon is a great author and I highly recommend this book. Irene keep the fantastic books coming.
Reviewed for the Spring 2019 issue of Hope By The Book magazine
A beautiful story of healing when loss and grief threatened the very purpose of life itself. Driftwood Bay, Irene Hannon’s 5th book in the Hope Harbor series delivers familiar and new characters alike with an emotional journey that challenges their faith and futures. As the story unfolds, readers will travel with Logan and Jeannette to discover new surroundings as unexpected blessings reveal and transform their fear to courage. The author expertly woven threads of hope that entwined our characters in the Hope Harbor community as they work together to let that hope envelope others as well, including the readers.
Another masterpiece by Irene Hannon...Love her stories, her characters and her message carefully woven throughout her novels. Five stars!
Since this is the first book I’ve read by Irene Hannon, I have nothing to compare it to other than my own observations. I thought it was lovely. Driftwood Bay focused on the pain of grief and how hurting people often shy away from making any deep, lasting relationships. This is shown through more than one character, and it helps set the stage for others overcoming their pain and guilt.
While we are drawn into Thomma’s pain early on and given insight into his grief, Jeannette’s past stays deeply buried for a large portion of the book. I can’t say I minded this, as when it was revealed it was done naturally through conversation. Irene Hannon seems to have mastered the art of revealing characters through physical dialogue between characters. This was a refreshing change I appreciated.
I kept thinking of the phrase, “Hurting people hurt people” as I read. Jeannette doesn’t mean to hurt Logan and Molly. She’s only trying to protect her own fragile heart. Same with Thomma and Elisa. Thomma doesn’t mean to hurt his daughter, but he can’t see that his lack of love is slowing destroying them.
Driftwood Bay is a wonderful story drawn from the extreme depth of grief. The author doesn’t hold back with her expressions of loss and the book is better for it.
I requested a copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
When I read an Irene Hannon novel, I instantly think Romantic Suspense. But, with Driftwood Bay, Irene Hannon takes us on a softer route. We still get the character chiseled to perfection, the captivating plot lines, and the page turning awesomeness. It’s a welcomed reprieve from her up-late, heart pounding suspense stories.
The characters in this novel will pull you in and become your family while you read their story. You’ll find yourself falling in love with them all. I absolutely loved that Hannon had a character named Molly! Bless her, I wanted wrap my momma arms around her so much! Logan West, Molly’s uncle, is absolutely awesome. I fell head over heels in love with him the moment he was introduced, and Jeanette was beautifully chiseled! Seeing her interact with Logan, and Molly was beautiful.
This novel has every emotion you can feel wrapped up inside of it. I found myself smiling and laughing (seriously! Who names seagulls?), crying (so much tragedy in one story), and angry (how can God let something tragic happen?). But, it’s all needed to round out this awesome novel. You’ll find yourself reaching the end of the book way too soon, but you’ll also find your heart a little lighter as you read this story of hope, letting go of the past, and living for the future. Grab a copy now and take a trip to Driftwood Bay with Hannon’s 4 star writing!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, Revell and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
I’m so happy to have discovered this wonderful author because from the moment I started reading this heartwarming story I couldn’t put it down. The story is heartwarming and the characters will wrap themselves around your heart and will stay with you long after their story ends. I wish I could live in a town as inspirational as Driftwood Bay because of the wonderful people who live there and the overwhelming support they offer each other and the immigrant family the congregation welcomes with open arms. The characters of Logan, Jeanette and Moly will capture your heart as they struggle to overcome overwhelming loss and learn to trust in love again. This is a truly delightful and captivating read. I read an early copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
Irene Hannon is already one of my favorite authors for romantic suspense; but Driftwood Bay is more on the line of simple contemporary romance. Still, it is very good and grabs your attention from the beginning. Dr. Logan West has relocated to the town of Hope Harbor with a grief stricken little girl and destructive pup in hand. He is struggling with the single Father status and finds his neighbor has built walls around herself both literally and physically.
Jeannette, despite her desire of solitude, finds herself drawn to the little girl, Molly, and to the persevering Doctor who has changed his life completely to help his charge.
Throw in the town of Hope Harbor has decided to befriend a syrian immigrant family who have lost much from their war ravaged home including a wife, father, and brother--leaving a motherless child with a father who has with drawn.
This is another wonderful read from a great series that I highly recommend for your reading shelf. Thanks to Revell Publishing for allowing me to read this book from Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
Hope Harbor, a place for healing. This is the 5th book in this location. I love the quirky characters that the town has to offer, like Charley who runs the local taco stand and offers out sage advice that pertains to what you are going through even though you've never mentioned it to him before and Gladys and Floyd the two seagulls. This is the story of Jeanette, who runs the lavender farm and Logan, the new local doctor who is raising his niece Molly from the tragic loss of her parents. It is a story about hope and healing and God's unyielding grace. I would totally recommend this book and any in the series.
Lavender fields, tea rooms and a path to the beach set the scene for an emotional, charming and beautiful storyline. Jeanette hopes for a fresh start when setting up her lavender farm and tea room in the seaside town of Hope Harbor. Her neighbor, Dr. Logan West's life has taken a turn with the loss of close family and he is struggling to keep up with his new role that he inherited. The main characters are wonderful and the supporting characters are also very captivating. The storyline is full of loss and the pain of losing someone you love. It intertwines three situations of loss and hope in the process of trying to pick up the pieces. Most intriguing is the relationship that develops between two children who cannot speak the same language but develop a bond over the loss of loved ones. They don't need to speak to each other in order to give comfort and hope to one another. It's a beautiful side story within the main storyline, one that I won't soon forget.
While it is filled with painful emotional scenes that pull at your heart strings, it also has sprinkled in laughable scenes and of course love in all capacities. You will feel a full range of emotions while reading this lovely book. This Hope Harbor novel was one that I couldn't put down and read straight through on a sleepless night.
I love reading a book that’s full of tears that turn to laughter; loss that turns to gain; and despair that turns to hope. This book has all of this and more. And wow—what a great story this is! The storyline is absorbing and the community of Hope Harbor made me wish we could move there today. But it’s the characters that spoke directly to my heart and made this a book that keep me reading every moment I could find.
There’s quite a bit of loss in this story. Three different families have lost loved ones in separate tragic circumstances. This book tells their story as to how they’ve unsuccessfully tried to keep themselves from feeling loss again. Although I felt deeply for the adults and their struggle, it’s the two little girls, Molly and Elisa, that captured my heart. Molly has lost her parents and beloved grandmother, and now finds herself living with her uncle Mark, who is struggling to figure how to raise a five year old girl and make her feel secure. Elisa lost her mother and several family members in a church bombing in Syria. She knows her grandmother loves her, yet she feels rejected by her father who is grieving deeply over the past. Both Molly and Elisa have found new homes in Hope Harbor, and even though there’s a language barrier between them, their little hearts begin to heal through their friendship. As Mark and Jeanette decide if they have the courage to pursue a relationship, it takes a crisis with the two little girls to help everyone find the faith that’s needed to bring hope and healing to hurting hearts.
If you love the Mitford books by Jan Karon, you’ll love this Hope Harbor series. It’s a series that I’ll want to read over again.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Irene is a favorite author that I really enjoy reading. Her books keep me guessing from the first page to the last paragraph. Thank you for allowing me to read this book.
A beautifully written book which I enjoyed immensely. A very moving story and a compelling read. I loved it and would recommend others to read it. Looking forward to reading other books from Irene Hannon.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every book set in Hope Harbor, and this one, "Driftwood Bay," just may be my favorite! Jeannette and Logan are both such great main characters, easy to love, and easy to relate to, they totally came to life on the pages of this book. Jeannette is living life running her lavender farm, which sounds beautiful, and of course a lot of work, and a lot of work alone. However, that is what she wanted, at least that is what she believed and kept on telling herself, as she started over in a new life, living her life, keeping to herself. That became hard to do when the neighbor's dog began invading her property and being destructive. Keeping to herself becomes difficult as her path crosses with her neighbors and Jeannette and Logan learn that maybe there is something lacking in each of their lives. This is such a great read, as it is emotionally charged, full of relatable characters, and sweet moments all interwoven together to create this beautiful story that will stick with you long after you finish reading.
Driftwood Bay is about a lonely woman, Jeanette, who has determined to live a solitary life. Her plans are foiled when a single doctor and his young niece interrupt her solitude. At the same time, a refugee family that the church and town have committed to helping is in need of assistance that she can give if she is willing to step out of her comfort zone. Her faith and her conscience continue to drive her to do what she knows is right even if it’s not in accordance with her plans.
This story really focuses on grief and healing and being able to move forward after terrible things happen in life instead of staying in the grief. And it’s about allowing love for other people and from other people to help you heal. I really enjoyed reading Driftwood Bay. The characters are likeable and relatable. And the emotions that the characters are dealing with are emotions that I think a lot of people can connect with. I would definitely recommend this book.
Normally, I don’t read romance novels, but after reading Sandpiper Cove by Irene Hannon I was anxious to read Driftwood Bay, especially since the cover has another dog on the beach.
Driftwood Bay did not disappoint from the first page to the last and here’s why.
Life is full of disappointments on many levels. We’ve all experienced happiness, loss, death, and love. Grief winds its way through our hearts all in different ways. Life is also full of unexpected blessings and happiness. Most of the blessings come at times when we least expect them.
Driftwood Bay combines this and more, along with a dog named Toby. Driftwood Bay interweaves two different stories of loss around two little girls amongst the cast of characters who’ve experienced profound loss in the U.S. and in Syria. There is a love story surrounding the main characters of Logan and Jeannette and Hannon presents it in an uplifting way. The characters back-stories are told so well in this book where a reader does not get bogged down.
What is beautiful about Hannon’s writing is how she merges and connects the characters in amazing ways throughout her book. The story envelopes you. For example, we all want to live in a town that is full of people who are willing to help at the drop of a hat. Seriously, who would not want to live in a town like Hope Harbor?
One great line from Driftwood Bay states that flowers are not the same as a family but they do make life more beautiful when you don’t have a family.
One of the best lines from the book, “Don’t let fear stop you from being what God intended for you to be.” That’s a powerful statement to keep in mind when living life. Driftwood Bay is a book you read to uplift you when your own life is chaotic and feeling hopeless. It will help you optimistically overcome your fears and follow that path that God intended for you.
This book is well written making it a quick read. Thankfully, as a dog lover, I loved the fact that Toby continued to be a character throughout the book.
Driftwood Bay by Irene Hannon is book 5 in the Hope Harbor series. Fans of authors like Debbie Macomber will find a kindred spirit in Irene Hannon. Hope Harbor is a place you'll wish was real and the characters are so likable and real. If only Charley made fish tacos near me! There are so many details that make Hope Harbor a unique place that you'll want to revisit. This novel continues those qualities and adds the stories of two hurting people and a hurting refugee family. You don't want to miss this heartwarming novel. I highly recommend it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Irene Hannon is an exceptional author. Each one of her books have held great interest in my opinion. Driftwood Bay is one of those novels that keeps you in the heart of the story.
Jeanette and Logan cross paths in Hope Harbor. They each have walked through pain and sorrow, but each one tries to start a new life after great loss. Ms. Hannon beautifully weaves a story of love, forgiveness and second chances. I loved the little bit of humor that lightens throughout the story. Hannon's characters are well developed and interesting, including the adventures with the dog named Toby. Good story, well worth the read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
