The setting of a lighthouse turned library on the Outer Banks of North Carolina sounds delightful. Protagonist, Lucy Richardson, is helping her cousin Josie O'Malley, plan her wedding to chef Jake Greenblatt. They want a simple, inexpensive wedding, but have been overrun with Josie's grandmother, matriarch of the family. Gloria is ready to turn the wedding into the winter event of the year and has brought cousins Mirabelle and Florence. They are all driving Josie crazy.

Josie is deeply involved in Josie's Cozy Bakery, her fiancé a good match with his seafood bar in Nags Head. In an effort to side-track Mirabelle, Lucy plans a small and informal bridal shower at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library. In the meantime, an ominous crack has been discovered in the wall of the lighthouse running down into the foundation and indications are that it will be a major repair.

This is the fifth of the series, but most of the characters are developed sufficiently to allow this read as a standalone. Lucy is engrained in her Lighthouse Aerie apartment and comfortable with hooking up with Connor McNeil, mayor of Nags Head. The library comes complete with Charles, the crusty and feisty library cat. The location itself conjures beautiful seaside pictures in the mind, complete with chilly, salty breezes.

It is a cozy mystery and starts on a slow track, heavily involved in wedding plans and discussions. It is well into the narrative during the bridal shower that Mirabelle becomes a victim of Josie's gluten-free dessert offering. There are multiple red herrings and twists, Lucy following one clue then another. Dialogue is natural, but several key points are repeated. While the well-plotted story moves, this one moved too slowly for my taste, and I'd guessed the antagonist well before disclosed in conclusion. Closing any loose threads, such as funds for the library repairs, wedding, and reopening of the bakery completed the novel.

I was allowed this ebook download by the publisher and NetGalley and appreciated the opportunity to read and review. Recommended for fans of the series and cozy mysteries. 3.5/5 stars

Something Read, Something Dead by Eva Gates is the 5th book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series, and another great addition. Lucy Richardson is a librarian on the outer banks of North Caroline. The library is in a lighthouse, and Lucy lives above the library. Lucy is helping her cousin Josie and owner of Josie bakery, plan her wedding to chef Jake Jake and Josie want a small wedding, but Josie grandma and cousin Mirabelle have other ideas. When Lucy hosts the bridal shower at the library and someone winds up dead, Lucy is determined to find the killer. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I recommend this book/series for any cozy mystery lovers.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Josie and Jake are finally getting married in a simple event, but her grandmother decides to go for a more extravagant wedding. Lucy Richardson is trying to keep her cousin from blowing her top, but when Mirabelle, her grandmother's wedding planner dies after the bridal shower, there's more trouble than a big wedding. Love this series set in the Outer Banks, NC and the Lighthouse Library.

We meet Josie's family since she is planing her wedding. They were very annoying when they first arrived, but luckily the regular cast was able to mellow them out some. One does end up dead with Josie as the main suspect. This means Lucy needs to get on the case to help clear her cousin for the wedding to go on. We have an interesting murder mystery, but we also have drama around the lighthouse library as it has construction issues.

I thank the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for my honest review. - I have grown to like this series and the endings are always good.

Josie is planning her low key simpler wedding when her imperious grandmother arrives within her entourage to spice things up. One of the de,a ding realtoves emds up dead at the wedding shower and time is of the essence for Lucy to solve the murder. I love the idea of a library in the lighthouse and the Outer Banks is an ideal setting for a cozy mystery, replete with resident cat.

This fifth entry in the Lighthouse Library mysteries continues an entertaining and fun series. The Outer Banks setting is always part of the flavor of the book, as is librarian Lucy Richardson and a nice ensemble cast.

In this outing, Lucy's hard-working cousin Josie and Josie's equally hard-working fiance Jake (she's a baker and owner of a bakeshop and he's a chef with his own restaurant) find their plans for a simple and reasonably priced wedding sabotaged by Josie's family. Her imperious grandmother Gloria sweeps into town along with several cousins with agendas of their own. Soon the relatives threaten to disrupt everything from the ceremony to the wedding shower to the invitation list to the choosing of the wedding gown.

Things get even stickier when cousin Mirabelle dies after eating food prepared by Josie in a wedding shower at Lucy's lighthouse library. Motives and ill-will abound, and Lucy attempts to find the murderer and clear Josie from suspicion. As if this wasn't enough drama, a structural defect at the library threatens the building, the library budget, and Lucy's relationship with hunky mayor Connor.

Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Absolutely loved this fifth installment in the Lighthouse Library series!! What could be better than your favorite book in one of your favorite cozy series?

This series features a terrific cast of characters, including Lucy, a librarian and sometime sleuth who works, and lives, in a library located in a lighthouse on North Carolina's Outer Banks. In this installment of the series, Lucy is helping her much-loved cousin and local baker, Josie, plan her wedding.

This book had a clever plot and plenty of twists and turns.

This book, and this series, are ones I'd highly recommend to anyone who loves cozies.

Really enjoyed this book. Quirky setting and a definite twist in the tale at the end. Love the idea of a library in a lighthouse. Well written and want to read the others in the series now.

Lucy is helping her cousin Josie plan her wedding. Josie and her fiance Jake want a small wedding but when Josie’s Louisiana relatives arrive lead by Josie's Grandmother the wedding craziness ensues. All Josie’s plans are in danger of being hijacked and changed to something far from what Josie and Jake want. Lucy while trying to distract Josie’s other relatives from the real wedding plans helps throw Josie a shower. At this shower, one of the meddlesome relatives become sick and has to be rushed to the hospital and later dies. Josie becomes the prime suspect since someone overheard Josie arguing about this person’s interference in her wedding plans. Can Lucy help clear Josie in time for Josie’s wedding and help Josie save her wedding from being taken over by the Lousiana relatives?

I really enjoy this series. This book is the 5th in the series but can definitely be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery. I love the setting of a library in a lighthouse. One of the great things about this series taking place in a library is that the cast of characters is involved in a book club. While I enjoying my mystery I get to learn about another book that I can be added to my To Be Read List. The book club's choice which Lucy uses to help her investigation is Dorothy Sayers’ The Busman’s Honeymoon. In addition to the great setting, the characters are fun and realistic. When reading this book it was like reading about what a friend might be going through while planning a wedding and dealing with their meddlesome relatives. The mystery has a quick but well-paced plot with several twists and turns along the way to the big reveal. I recommend this book to cozy mystery fans and fans of the series.

I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book supplied by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

I am a big fan of Eva Gate's Lighthouse Library Mystery series. The characters are likeable, the town and library setting is charming, and there are always enough twists and turns in the mystery to keep me guessing. I had just one issue with the book, that being the outcome of the attempted murder of Lucy. In the real world that event would not have been treated so lightly, nor would Lucy not need major therapy and security protection to deal with it. Just this one issue that kept 'Something Read, Something Dead' from being perfect. I highly recommend the entire series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I love to read cozy mysteries set in North Carolina and at the beach. This series is located on the Outer Banks and it offers great atmosphere and local color. I found this series a year ago when I was looking for a book to listen to as I drove to Nags Head. This was the perfect series.

Five books into this series, Something Read, Something Dead continues the series about a librarian living in a lighthouse. The writing is sound, the characters quirky and the mystery is just complicated enough to keep you guessing.

The author, Gates delivers another solid entry in the Lighthouse Library series. And while this book is fine to read as a standalone, I suggest beginning with the first in the series.

Something Read, Something Dead by Eva Gates is the fifth book in the Lighthouse Libary series and grabbed my attention from the first page.

I have read every one of the books in this series and am always excited when a new one is about to be released. Ms. Gates writes a story filled with likable and relateable characters. At this point in the series, the characters feel like old friends to me. I want to move down to the Outer Banks so I can hang out at Josie's Cozy Bakery and go to the Lighthouse library. However, I don't want the opportunity to meet Josie's extended family from Louisiana. Once you read it, you'll understand that sentiment.

The plot was quickly paced with more than one mystery to solve, several suspects - even Josie's family from Louisiana aren't exempt, red herrings and enough twists that kept me totally in the dark until Lucy's reveal.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

The latest book in the Bodhie Island Lighthouse series is centered around Lucy's cousin Josie's wedding to local restauranteur Jake. When Josie's extended family comes to town to "help" with the wedding preparation, they immediately take over. From her cousin Mirabelle and Florence offering their event planning services to grandmother Gloria's dictate all the proper ways to do thing, it's all getting out of hand. Then Mirabelle, who everyone seems to have a problem with, turns up dead, Josie becomes the main suspect. Of course Lucy steps in to help her cousin, all while trying to figure out how to save the library from being condemned.
As always, this was another great installment in this series that has long been one of my favorites. While the mystery wasn't too hard to figure out, spending time in this world is always fun and entertaining. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

I found this to be a fun cozy mystery, once I got things figured out. Since this is the fifth book in the series, I had no prior knowledge of any of the characters or the setting. I could not even find the narrator's name. There is no outline or information in the first pages to get the reader caught up with who is doing what. I guess it was assumed that I had read all four of the others in the series. A list of the characters at the beginning would be very helpful.

However, that being said, I found the characters to be quirky and interesting. The lighthouse library setting was unique and different. I also enjoyed the references to the Dorothy Sayers novel. A "book within a book" is always fun to a book-lover. I probably will go back and read the others in the series.

I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

An enjoyable cozy mystery. I think it drags a bit in places and how Lucy "figures out" the killer is a bit of a cheat as there's no real evidence found, just some information that was given at the beginning of the book and remembered at the end. Otherwise it was enjoyable. #SomethingReadSomethingDead #NetGalley

The idea of a library in a lighthouse is absolutely enticing, and the thought of living and working there even more so! Lucy is a librarian who recently moved to the Outer banks. She’s got a lot going on in this book - a boyfriend who is also the mayor, her cousin Josie’s wedding, a crack in the lighthouse foundation, and the murder of a distasteful would-be wedding planner. All of this while reading a Dorothy Sayer’s novel for her next book club meeting.

I have not read the earlier books in the series, but it wasn’t particularly hard to catch up on the characters, of which there a lot of fun ones! Charlie, the library cat, was of course one of my favorites. Josie’s grandmother, Gloria, was a train wreck, but an entertaining one. The author did a terrific job of balancing quite a few storylines, and even potentially setting things up for the next book. Without giving anything away, there’s a couple events that muddy the waters a bit and make figuring out whodunnit more challenging.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series, and maybe the earlier ones, too! Not to mention the Sayers mystery that helped Lucy catch another killer.

The Lighthouse Library is once again the scene of a crime, but this time it hits close to home for Lucy as it involves her cousin Josie. To add more stress, the lighthouse itself is in peril as it has sustained structural damage that threatens its very existence on the Bodie Island. As Lucy tries to help Josie and the lighthouse, she also struggles to make sense of her growing feelings for Mayor Connor.
