I really enjoyed the storyline in world building in the novel. I also really liked the characters. I thought this was a solid read, and I will definitely be reading more by this author.
I am not for sure what I read. Corpse & Queen is a strange ride, but absolutely worth it. Aggie is such a great character with depth. She made me root for her.
Corpse & Crown is the companion novel to Cadaver & Queen. While it's a smooth adventure, it fails to live up to its predecessor's passion, and it lacked substance in comparison. The plot could have been stronger. However, it is an easy read with fun characters, a well developed atmosphere and laughs along the way. It can be understood on its own but I highly advise reading the other book first for it to really make sense. I like the writing style and pace a lot. I will be on the look out for other books by this author.
Corpse & Crown is a companion novel to Cadaver & Queen. This book was an easy read, but I felt that this book didnt work for me. The characters weren't that interesting and the world was meh.
I love the twist dark plots in these books they are simple the best. Alisa is one of my favorite must read writers now. She describes things like a poet. I need to read all of her work. I will always recommend these books
Corpse & Crown picks up shortly after the first book and focuses on Aggie. Weaving in bits and pieces from Oliver Twist, Corpse & Crown dives farther into the world of the Bio-Mechanicals. I liked seeing things from Aggie's point of view, and Dodger gave the story a fresh new character. The character development between Will and Byrom was fantastic. While I feel the story was missing just a little something, overall it was a great sequel.
Okay, so I somehow thought that Corpse & Crown would be a sequel, not a companion or standalone in a way.
We follow Aggie in this installment, but Lizzie and the other characters make an appearance, and a lot of the Bio-Mechanical story is still there. It’s not so much Frankenstein anymore, however.
There’s an Oliver Twist element, apparently, but I honestly don’t know too much of that story to have really picked up on it. One of the characters had the name, but that was to the extent for me.
Aggie’s POV flows a lot easier than Lizzie’s did in Cadaver & Queen, but I’m not seeing the same badassery of Aggie that was in the first book. She’s a fierce character, but just not the same vibe.
I thought we were going to see some Aggie and Byram, since it was mentioned briefly, but Aggie found herself linked to someone else. Literally.
This story was only a little more interesting than in the first installment, only in the fact that it didn’t need any leading up or world building.
Sadly, these books just weren’t for me. I liked certain things but didn’t enjoy it as a whole. It’s definitely for fans of Kerri Maniscalco.
The first book in this series was absolutely fantastic, and this one did not disappoint. Aggie is a fantastic lead, and I'm so glad we got to read more about her. Its still steam punk-ish and absolutely wonderful. Definitely pick this one, and the first book up!

I loved it guys. This book was so fun. I loved the first one by the author so I was excited to see this companion novel.. The world building was fun and enticing. The characters were very well flushed out. I loved the plot of this. I can not wait to read more by this author. I highly recommend this book
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed reading this. An interesting story with fun characters. Well written.
I am so happy I got a copy of Corpse and Crown. This series just gets better and better and I couldn't put this book down. Alisa Kwitney does an amazing job at a fast paced thrill ride and I am in love with this series.
When I first began reading this book I had no idea that it was not a standalone novel. This is actually the sequel to another novel entitled Cadaver & Queen. However, you do not have to read the first installment to understand this book. That being said, I do think it would be beneficial to read the first book first in order to be properly introduced to the characters and not feel like they are being thrown at you. When I began reading, I felt overwhelmed by the magnitude of characters, all of which have their own complex personalities. But the further I got into the novel the more I started to understand the characters, along with their roles and motivations.
I really enjoyed this book, it was like a breath of fresh air for me. Too often do I see the same character tropes and plotlines repeated in YA. I can definitely say that this novel is wholly original. The characters were interesting. The ideas surrounding the story were mind-bending and made me think about our society and political systems today. The author also embedded classic characters into the story while giving them their own twists. Although the book was definitely not a story-retelling, as it may have been marketed. It is more of the author’s interpretation of classic characters which she weaves into her story.
I had a ton of fun reading this book. It was easy to get through, and I often found myself reaching for my kindle to read more. The pace of the novel could have been a little faster at times and the plot-line could get predictable.
Overall though, this was very enjoyable to read, with relatable characters and a fresh take on a Victorian-set young adult novel.
I would recommend this to: Fans of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, or anyone looking for inventive ideas never seen before in YA.
Corpse & Crown drew my attention even though I didn't realize it was part of a series. I was intrigued by the idea of Bio-Mechanicals people in this alternative history story.
Aggie is a practicing nurse at the Royal Victoria the home of England’s most promising Bio-Mechanical Victor Frankenstein. Victoria has been tasked with creating a Bio-Mechanical shoulder that will take of Germany’s creation. Aggie find herself directly connected to the project when her sight is ruined. Now Aggie must decide between her integrity and her dream.
After reading this entry in the series I want to read all entries in this series. Corpse & Crown does a great job of welcoming new readers, giving out the back ground you need to enjoy the story while being vague enough that you still want to read the first one. While I wish the end had been fleshed out a bit more, it left me waiting for the next installment.
I enjoyed the writing style. The prose wasn't overly word and or overly showy. It wasn't light and airy either. It was the right about of depth without being overbearing. Combined with the steam punk elements, I was instantly hooked.
I enjoyed the idea of Bio-Mechanicals. His wasn't just some zombie story but a look at technology and how it can hinder and help humanity. I enjoyed these ideas were taken into a historic period; usually human amplification are future sci-fi.
I enjoyed the characters. I liked how they each had different experiences and outlooks on the situation. While, not all of them share the same levels of depth, it is possible this is because I hadn't read the original book to better understand some of those characters.
Entertaining and fun, Corpse & Crown is a solid addition to YA fiction.
I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the first book in the series so it was amazing to have received the second book. It was just as good! One of the good things about this book is that you didn’t have to have read the first book to read this one.
I love the characters. Agatha is such an interesting and different character. I love her development throughout the book. I also like how the author included Oliver Twist. I thought that was really clever and made the book different. I really enjoyed seeing the other characters from the last book and how they’ve progressed over time. It would’ve been nice to see a little more of them though.
Overall this book was really good and I definitely recommend it to anyone who’s read the first book and to anyone who likes young adult books!
This was such an interesting read. It's a twist between Frankenstein and Oliver Twist with both characters being in the story. The story begins with a secret. The queen has died, but has been reborn as a Bio-Mechanic. This is a process where the dead are brought back to life with technology. With all technology there are glitches and the queen seems to be experiencing one as she is speaking nonsense. Her eldest grandson, the kaiser, is coming to visit and all will be lost if he finds out. He himself is working on his own stronger kind of Bio-Mechanics in Germany. If he found the truth he could easily overpower them. Thus starts a mission to create an even stronger Bio-Mechanic.
This story goes so many directions that I find it hard to give a thorough description without giving away a major part of the plot. However, the author did do a good job tying two classic tales together with a modern twist. While it may be a bit hard to get into because of the complexity of it, it is well worth the read.
The characters are very well done. Aggie, the main character is a nursing student. She's got a wonderful kind heart, but it often gets her into trouble. Oliver Twist is also well-done in a fantastic new way. You will also see Dodger from the classic tale and there's even a doctor with the last name of Frankenstein.
I hated all the different directions this book went when I first picked it up. However, by the time I was half way through it I loved every piece of it. It truly is a wonderful read.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for this honest review.
Corpse & Crown was an entertaining read, with lots of science and dark aspects. A cool take on Frankenstein, just not the right book for me. It definitely had a sci-fi feel with some unique elements, it’s just that this was a little outside my comfort zone and didn’t hit home. I would recommend this for readers who are a little more into the darker stuff!
This books was everything I wanted. From its Frankenstein roots to the Oliver Twist exposure, it was amazing. I can’t wait for it to be officially released so I can get it into the hands of the teens I work with.
This had A LOT going on in just a 300 page book. There were too many storylines and POVs to follow that it seemed messy and incomplete. I did enjoy following the characters in this one especially Dodger and Aggie and will but I think it would have been better if we focused on only a couple of them and saved the rest for another book. I would love a Will and Byram book. I also felt like pieces of the stories were missing. We were told things happened but we didn't get to experience them so it felt random. I also didn't really like the overall plot of this story. The bio-mechanics seemed intriguing in the first book but they didn't really utilized them in an interesting way in either plot. Overall, I enjoyed the Oliver Twist nods but there was just too much going on and not enough time to get invested.
I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved that Aggie took the lead in this book and enjoyed learning more about her character. The idea of bio-mechanicals is both fascinating and horrifying. I love the retelling and the twists she puts in the story.
I havent read the first book so I think I would like this more if I do. It's an easy read. I will read the first to understand it more
