Full of nonstop action, this romantic suspense is more thriller than romance, although the romance is definitely there. Sheriff Mike Nevada and Special Agent Macy Crow are together a lot, but most of their time is spent relentlessly seeking out who is torturing and/or killing young women, giving them very little time for relaxation or in developing any kind of relationship. The rapes and murders are most likely connected to incidents that happened nearly 15 years ago in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Connecting the two time periods proves difficult. There is also a trail of crimes in multiple states in the time between that may be related, too. I was intrigued with the way the author was able to show the escalation of the crimes committed. With so many suspects, it was hard to narrow down who all were responsible. I loved this suspense and hope that Mike and Macy have future cases to solve together. [I received an early copy of this book and my opinion is my own.]

This first book in the new Criminal Profiler series stars FBI Agent Macy Crow who is still recovering from almost dying in a hit-and-run accident. She has spent some time during her recovery deep in an FBI basement doing computer work. When she is given a chance to become part of a new group, she is eager to prove that she is back and ready to work active cases again.

Macy is sent to Deep Run, Virginia, where she reconnects with Sheriff Mike Nevada who had come back home after burning out on harrowing FBI cases and run for sheriff because he was so disgusted that the current sheriff had let years of rape kits pile up without testing them. Testing them has revealed that the same man was involved with at least three of the cases but his DNA is not on file anywhere.

When the bones are discovered of a teenage girl who disappeared fifteen years earlier, Macy and Nevada are pretty sure that they have a serial killer in their town. As they investigate, old secrets are unearthed. Chapters from the murderer/rapist were quite chilling.

There is a possible paranormal twist as Macy has recurring dreams of another teenage girl who disappeared at the same time. Macy is concerned that her own near-death experience might have done something to her mind.

I liked getting the backstory of Macy and learning how she came to be the person she is. She was an intriguing, driven woman. I liked Mike Nevada too. Both are gifted investigators. I am quite curious to know where this series will be going next because I enjoyed the writing style and strong characters.

A terrific romantic suspense/thriller. Mary Burton does not disappoint with her storylines and characters. This story has you turning the pages wanting to know what happens next. You will not be disappointed with this book and should add it your must read list.

A tense, well-written thriller. Burton does an excellent job of building the suspense and setting up the dynamics of this disturbing plot. The character development was engaging and as a reader I had just enough doubt to drive me forward non-stop to find out what was going on.

Mary Burton hasn't let me down yet! Another gripping romantic suspense story - she is right up there with Karen Rose for this genre.

We met FBI profiler Special Agent Macy Crow in a previous novel Cut & Run (which was also excellent) and I really enjoyed this story set around her and Sheriff Mike Nevada in which they are investigating a crime going back over 10 years when the same sinister events start occurring again. Could it really be the same murderer...?

There is an abundance of characters which in turns leads to a lot of red herrings which helps keep the mind ticking trying to guess whodunnit. I read this book in 2 sittings and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough.

The lead characters have a romantic history that soon flares up again and I have always loved the romantic suspense genre - the best of both worlds for me!

My many thanks to Montlake Romance via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

The murderer has been seeking out and stalking his victims for over 15 years. He thinks he is too smart to be caught. That is until one of his earliest victims is found. Macy Crowe of the FBI has been sent to investigate the bones of that long ago missing girl. A taunt mystery with more than several suspects, a police coverup and a list of women who have been missing and others that are still being stalked and murdered. This is Mary Burton at her best.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It's written in a style that keeps the story moving. Kept me thoroughly interested and can't wait to read more by the same author. Love the characters Sheriff Mike and FBI agent Macy. Their complicated pasts add another twist to this book. This is the first time I read anything by this author.

Hide and Seek is another great book by Mary Burton. Macy Crow and Sheriff Mike Nevada are strong individuals that want to solve an old murder case. Macy has been through a terrible ordeal but she is out to prove that she can be the FBI agent that she once was. Sheriff Nevada is a great support for her because he knows she is the best person for the case. He knows that she can solve it, but is unsure if she returned to the FBI too early. If you like police procedure this is the book for you. It is slower paced than the other books by this author, but still a wonderful read. Even though this is a slower paced book, I enjoyed the plot and the characters. It keeps you hooked until the end because you want to know who the killer is. I did not see guess the murderer until the end of the story. Great book and great characters!

This is romantic suspense at its best and yet another winner for Mary Burton. I loved the premise, the action and the edge-of-your-seat suspense that gripped me from the beginning. I would definitely recommend this one to readers who don't mind burning the midnight oil for the love of a fabulously written novel.

I am never disappointed in a book written by Mary Burton. I loved Hide and Seek and was thrilled to see Macy Crow from Cut and Run as one of the main characters. Macy is a strong, independent woman and she is exactly how I like my heroines to be. Teamed up with former FBI agent Mike Nevada, Macy is on the tail of a truly depraved killer. I would love to see another character from the story, Deputy Brooke Bennett, get her own book. I feel like she has more of a story to tell.

I loved that we got a book with Macy! She was in previous book and was injured and we finally got to find out how she was. As a character I found her to be strong and smart. I also loved Nevada as he was wonderful working with Macy. Nevada had previously been FBI and was now a sheriff who has need of some help. Great chemistry as these two hunt a murderer. Some twists and lots of action and some steam. Love this series!!

An advanced copy was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. It's no secret that I am a big fan of Mary Burton so when I got the chance to read Hide and Seek I was so excited! Burton is a master storyteller and this book had me scared to read at night. I felt like someone was watching me and was afraid to go to sleep thinking that I would wake to someone standing over me. It's hard for a book to get me to react like that so this was a definite winner. If you haven't read any of Mary Burton's books I strongly suggest you pick one up, specifically this one when it comes out in April!

I am a huge Mary Burton fan and love her books. This one is so good! I was hooked from the beginning and on the edge of my seat. I'm sure I gasped out loud a few times. FBI Special Agent Macy Crow has not quite recovered from the serious injuries she suffered in Cut and Run. She wants to be on an elite profiler team. In this book Macy teams up with former FBI Agent Mike Nevada, now a Sheriff, on a 15 year old cold case, the bones of which have now been found. This murder ties to abductions, rapes and strangulation of other victims. I cannot wait to read what happens next in Macy and Mike's lives. Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and the Author for allowing me to read another fabulous Mary Burton book.

Special Agent Macy Crow is an FBI profiler who is trying to prove she can still do her job after a devastating hit and run accident almost killed her. She is sent to a small town where a possible serial killer is at work. Local Sheriff Mike Nevada is a former FBI agent who had a short term affair with her.

This book is one you won’t be able to put down. It has edge of your seat suspense with a romance thrown in. Just when you think you know the killer you find out you’re wrong. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Special Agent Macy Crow is a dedicated FBI profiler. After a severe hit and run accident during a case nearly kills her, she works hard to get back to work. She is sent on a special assignment to investigate the bones found on a worksite that confirm fifteen year old missing high school girl Tobi Turner’s disappearance. Macy is on the case with local sheriff Mike Nevada, who is a not only a former colleague but a past romance that ended amicably. Both Macy and Mike work well together and are determined to solve the Tobi Turner murder. There are similarities in this murder case and other girls murdered at the same time, from the same high school. The murderer has spent the last 15 years traveling from city to city killing. He is overconfident and looking to continue honing his skills and feed his appetite for dominance and taking the last breath from his victims. Macy and Mike rush to solve this case before more girls are found dead. This is a good romantic crime thriller that kept me wanting to read to find out the ending.

Mary Burton is an auto-buy author for me. She's a master of thrilling romantic suspense, her heroes and heroines are always smart and strong. FBI agent Macy Crow, fresh off a near death experience in Cut and Run is back. She is recovering from a devastating hit and run and is sent to Deep Run Virginia when the body of a teenager missing for 15 years is found. Mike Nevada is a former Special Agent who has worked with Macy in the past and the two also had a personal relationship. He is now the Sheriff of Deep Run and requests her help when this case appears to be connected to a series of rapes and disappearances. Macy and Nevada reconnect romantically, but what I like is Mary doesn't shove their relationship in our face. It develops naturally.
The emphasis of the book is on the suspense and we are taken on an exciting thrill ride. You may think you know who the bad guy is....but think again! This story kept me completely engaged until the satisfying conclusion. Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a start of the new Criminal Profiler series.

This book follows Special Agent Macy Crow, who appeared in a previous book. Cut and Run. After being hit by a truck, Macy is trying to get back to work. She is trying to get a spot on the profiling team. In order to get that spot, she has to prove herself. She gets handed a 15 year old missing person case which just became a murder. Thy just found the bones of the high school girl, Tobi Turner. Macy works with sheriff Mike Nevada, an old colleague and old flame. As Macy starts to work the case, she finds a pattern of rapes in the past that could be connected. Macy and Mike race to find answers and stop this man from hurting anyone else, especially someone close to them. Can they stop this maniac in time?

I enjoy reading books by this author. The last few books have not been connected to a series, but have had characters overlap. Mike Nevada appears in The Last Move and Macy Crow in Cut and Run. It helps with character background if you read them, but they do not carry a story line into this book.

This is a great start to her new series. It sucks you in and doesn't let you go. Before you know it, you have reached the last page and then the wait begins for the next book. I like both characters and hope to see more of them in future books.

Mike Nevada used to work for the FBI for 15 years, but now he is a county sheriff. He never believed he would be in a small town on a farm and being a sheriff no less. He gets a call from a contractor out at an old farm, that some bones were discovered, and they turn up being a bones from a high school girl Tobi Turner missing for over 15 years.
Special agent Maci Crow has survived a horrible hit and run accident and left for dead. Macy is back to work and she wants in on an elite profiling team. She gets sent to investigate what happened to Tobi and see if she is really ready to get back in the game.
Maci soon discovers that there were other incidents around the same time Tobi disappeared, and as she interviews victims from the cold cases she discovers there was a stalker, who then escalates into sexual attacks and then murder.

I was fortunate to receive this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.

It’s November in the town of Deep River, VA, and a group of men are preparing to tear down an old barn. As they work, a piece of the loft breaks, and a backpack comes spilling out of an old chute, accompanied by some bones, which they quickly realize are human.

Sheriff Mike Nevada is called to the scene. A retired FBI agent, he pursued the elected sheriff’s position as a protest against some mismanagement of evidence, never expecting to win. And now, they may be closer to solving a 15-year-old mystery – the disappearance of then teenager Tobi Turner, who was last seen in 2004.

Meanwhile, FBI Special Agent Macy Crow, returning to active duty after a hit and run accident that had almost took her life, is hoping to be assigned to an elite violent crimes squad. When interviewing with the team leader, he offers her a chance to join his team – but first she is sent to Deep Water, VA to assist Sheriff Nevada in the Tobi Turner investigation. And she’s also intrigued by another teen who went missing about the same time, who by all accounts ran away.

As Macy & Nevada work the case, it becomes increasingly clear that they are searching for a serial rapist turned murderer. As the investigation heats up, a new body is found, and VICAP identifies several other related cases. Was this the work of a stranger passing through – or is the perpetrator close by and planning to kill again??

This is the second book by Mary Burton that I’ve read recently, and I have LOVED them both. Great characters, great chemistry, and a great storyline that will keep you reading well into the night. I could not put this one down!! Awesome characters! I hope Macy & Nevada stick around for a while. I’d love to see a series!!

Mary Burton is one of those authors that you can always trust to deliver. She does this, yet again. This is a very fast-paced and suspenseful read. I really like the character of Macy. She was introduced in Cut and Run (another excellent read), but this would work as a standalone also. I can't thank NetGalley and the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this title!
