As I was not able to download the book right away (took a day or two to get around to it...) I was not able to get the book before it was archived. I look forward to picking up a copy from my local bookstore.
Reading this book was not a positive experience for me. For one thing, there were so many characters to keep up with that it was overwhelming. This was a light read and I guess I prefer something with a little more meat and depth to it. If you want a simple Christian read, then this is probably your cup of tea.
Thank you to NetGalley and FaithWords Publishers for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
I read this book last year and hadn't realized I never posted a review! Lauraine Snelling writes about a group of friends with unfinished projects they determine to complete with each others support. And they end up supporting each other in so many ways. I loved the description of the friendships and yearned to start a group like that myself!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed are my own.
Half Finished by Lauraine Snelling is a book about a group of women who meet on the commonality of having unfinished craft projects. I loved the concept behind this group and how it brings the women together. Overall, I thought the story delivered and is worth the read. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This book makes me want to dig out all my unfinished projects and start on them again. It also makes me feel good about the life I am living that is not finished yet.
I am a crafter, sewer, and scrapbooker and totally understand that I have UFO's at my house. UFO's are not what you normally think of but unfinished objects in this wonderful book. This is a great Christian fiction book that is about a group of women that have an "Unfinished projects club". Oh how I want to be a part of this club or atleast start one of my own. The warmth and love between this group of friends was astounding. The character development was slow and steady and I felt like I was a part of the group and could relate. The bond and relationships that develop throughout this book are heartwarming and will make you laugh too. I love the idea that we all have unfinished projects and God wants to help us grow through our work.
This was my first book by Lauraine Snelling and I cannot wait to read some of her other work. I received this book for an honest review from NetGalley.
I think this was a very unique book!
I personally related to the ideas of the characters and there struggles with leaving things half finished. I think this is a great reminder for me and I recommend reading it :)
I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
When Mary Jane, known to her friends as MJ, and Roxie decide to hold each other accountable for their unfinished projects, they realize that their community might enjoy the chance to spend time together while working on their own backlog of projects. The idea is a success, and the town finds itself finishing more projects together than they even imagined. In the process, more than just crafts come together.
This book was such a sweet change of pace. Based on a group of characters mostly of retirement age, it was enjoyable to get a glimpse into the lives and friendships of a demographic of folks not usually included in fiction. Seeing them interact within friendships, decades-long marriages, and as grandparents made for a rich story, and the characters were so real that I wept with them as their lives changed dramatically.
I give this book 4 stars. It's not a book I'll likely read again, but I would highly recommend it to readers looking for a slower-paced, character-rich story, or those in a later stage of life looking to connect with similar characters.
I received a digital copy of this book, via NetGalley, from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.
Half Finished by Lauraine Snelling was a wonderful, easy read of calmness. It’s a story about life and real people who have to navigate it and they choose to navigate it together. It’s not always easy. There is a wonderful craft element that was inspiring as I am a crafter myself. You come together and finish crafts that are half-done. No more unfinished projects laying around for years and years without completion. You want to start something new, finished what you have started first and do it in a community together. There’s accountability and wonderful fellowship. They even opened the group to men with their half-finished projects. Hey, why not! In the coming together, we get to know the stories of the characters and I really enjoyed that.

Read this book with a cup of tea in a cozy chair and you have the makings of a great day!
Unfinished projects bring a community together. As they encourage and help one another, they find that the Lord is in the details and has each of our lives in the palm of His Hands.
When two good friends are determined to get a handle on all their half finished creative projects, they decide to form a UFO (unfinished object) group to help keep each other accountable. They had no idea it would become so popular and the many ways old and new friends would end up lending a hand to each other. I found this to be a very relatable story with appealing characters. It turned out to be extra special to discover the story was set in the Wisconsin city just down the road from where I live and that I was able to attend the author's signing at the local book store. I found the author to be just as delightful and entertaining as the characters she creates. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review Half Finished by Lauraine Snelling.
I'm not sure why, but this book touched my heart more than I expected. Maybe it was the story line of 'unfinished' projects that I have more than I want to count, but I think that it was because that I felt 'involved' in the book from the first few pages.
The characters seemed like those I could meet in my own community. Their relationships with each other keep me reading. I also thought that 'grief' was handled so well. The book was well-written and I hated to put it down.
I will be looking for other books by this author.
Half-Finished by Lauraine Snelling will transport readers to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Mari Jean Bronson aka MJ is in her craft room trying to fit a bin with another unfinished project onto her already overflowing shelves. Roxie, her best friend, suggests that they start a UFO group and she is not referring to space ships. They invite people with a problem similar to MJ’s to get together so they can work on their unfinished projects. The attendees can help keep each other on task and provide positive feedback when a UFO is finished. MJ and Roxie are hoping that at least eight to ten people at their first meeting which is being held at Annie’s Fountain City Café. The pair are shocked by the response to their flyer. The room is overflowing with people who have unfinished projects which include crewel embroidery, quilts, afghans, and a pea pod (a small boat). The individuals soon become friends and help each complete daunting incomplete projects. MJ and Roxie are surprised at how their idea develops into so much more. When tragedy strikes one of the members, the group comes together to aid her in her time of need. Pick up Half Finished to find out what happens to the UFO group.
Half Finished is not quite what I expected from Lauraine Snelling. It is a sweet, heartwarming story geared toward a mature audience. It is a story about a group of people (women and men) who come together to help each other. It starts with an idea to get unfinished projects completed and develops into so much more. It is nicely written with a gentle pace, but there was a great deal of repetition. There are a variety of characters (too many) with MJ, Roxie, Ginny and Amalia being the featured ones. I wish the author had taken the time to establish the main characters. We are given scant information on them. Finding their last names was a challenge. There is conversation, eating, drinking coffee & tea, walking dogs, finishing projects, cooking, and friendship (day to day activities). It develops into friends helping friends through good times and bad. One of the members suffers a terrible loss and we see how the others rally to help her. God used the group to touch so many lives. Two of the most memorable phrases from Half Finished are “grab your moments, every moment you can and be thankful” because “life changes in an instant and we have no control over it”. Half Finished is a positive novel that features friendship, helping others, having faith and encouragement. It is amazing what can be accomplished when you have positive reinforcement and good friends. I liked that the author included an epilogue so we could see the changes wrought by this creation of the UFO group. Half Finished is a relaxing, upbeat novel.
Sadly, I did not like Half Finished much. I just had a hard time getting into it. I am giving it two stars.
A nice clean read. Nice to read a book with older characters. The plot crosses a multitude of emotions. I recommend this book.
I loved this story about friends, family, and faith. There’s love and loss in this story, but there’s hope and healing, too. It’s a wonderful story about the power of a community that comes together to work together and help their own. While there are quite a few characters to keep track of, it gives this book a realistic small-town feel. This is a good, solid storyline that gives you a sense that you are part of this community and keeping up with everting that’s happening as you visit in the local coffee shop.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
This novel is a good one for Christian women, say over fifty years old. It takes readers through the lives of several older women. We see the mundane events of life as well as the catastrophic life changing ones. We sometimes sit with them over coffee and rolls. We sometimes grieve with unexpected loss and rejoice with a second chance at love.
The theme of the novel revolves around unfinished projects (UnFinished Objects – UFOs). Parallel with the unfinished knitting, wood working, needle point, etc., is that we are unfinished people. God is continually working in us. He uses the Word, events and people. It was good to see how people helped each other in this novel, often just by their attentive presence.
There is no mystery in the plot, no suspense. There is no snappy dialogue nor memorable scenes. Snelling just gives readers a good, gentle look into the lives of older women and the friendships they share. A bonus is the illustration of the good that might happen when an idea of getting people together to help each other is pursued.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publishers. My comments are an independent and honest review.
3 stars
It's an okay book, it's just boring. I tried more than once and I just could not get into the book at all or the characters. I tried, I really did but it's just very slow moving.
I think this may appeal to a much, much older group of readers. I usually love this author so this story surprised me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
Yikes! I was amazed at the amount of characters! I started to have a cheat sheet with all the names and who they were in reference to the story line. The concept of creating a group for Unfinished craft projects sounded very intriguing.
This story does make you sit back and reflect about the importance of families, friends and your neighbors.
A nice, clean Christian read full of inspiration.

Thank you to Net Galley and Faithwords publishing for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story because it reminded me of myself. I quilt and I have a lot of projects that are half finished. This is the story of some small town citizens who decide to get together and work on all their projects that are half finished. The rule is they cannot start any new projects. Along the way, they support each other and start to finish many long forgotten projects. This is a heartwarming story about friendship and support built on God's love.
