Kailyn and Daxton met by literally running into each other. Kailyn, a law student, and a huge fan of actor Daxton Hughes couldn't believe he was in her class. Their meet-cute led to friendship and then betrayal. Now years later, Daxton is in her office begging for help. If she can land a celebrity client, she's guaranteed to be made a partner at the firm. Kailyn soon realizes things almost feel exactly as they did back in school but is hesitant to forgive the past.
A quick read, this one did not strike me as much as The Good Luck Charm (also by Helena Hunting). Still there was a good story and the romance was pretty steamy.
Oh I wanted to love this book.
I personally think the cover says "fun and quirky" with a side of "cute".
I won't go in details about what failed to grab me, but let's just say, with a romance titled "MEET CUTE" I was expecting to read the best of all meet-cutes ever written. You know? Great banter and engaging dialogue? It never happened.
More over, the writing felt forced and lackluster, I can excuse purple prose sometimes (if I'm high or very tired) but I just can't with this: "She smells like sunshine and solace" 🤷🏻♀️😳 What does that even mean?
Also, I'm not sure about anyone else, but a 30-something man afraid and disgusted by periods is not my idea of endearing and fun. Not a hero I want to read about. No thanks.
Meet Cute totally missed the mark for me.
I was highly entertained and loved Kailyn the main character. She was hardworking, ambitious, and despite her success was somewhat flawed. The direction of the plot was predictable but I was interested in the story journey. I knew Kailyn mixing business with pleasure was nothing but trouble, yet I was drawn into the story waiting to see how it will play out.
I don’t know why this book reminds me so much of “Gilmore girls” especially the ever pushy and ambitious Paris Geller.
This is a super cute book and lived up to the hype that I had heard about. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to review this book and all the others you have given me!
Well, I'm a bit late to the party, but I adored this book! It deserves 5 stars. The hero and heroine are both likeable and the chemistry is through the roof.
Absolutely love Helena Hunting’s books so much and this one did no disappoint! Will recommend this one for sure :)
Helena Hunting is one of my favorite romance authors. This book is just a complete delight! I love the blend of romance and comedy and I always fly through these books!
Don't let the cute cover fool you. Although its marketed as cute and easy read, its so much more than that.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy. This book is out on April 9th!
Dax and kailen two law students that happen to cross paths in a embarrassing way. They become friends but when law school ends so does their friendship.
5 years later Kailyn is practicing law and in walks Dax w his parents who want to ensure that their daughter is well taken care of. Not to long after Dax's family is struck w tragedy. Dax turns to Kailyn for help w his younger sister.
I loved the relationship between Dax and Kailyn. This sense of misunderstanding between them and the chemistry they share regardless of what happened in the past.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This was an adorable, fun read that I really enjoyed.
Laugh out loud funny with lots of banter, Meet Cute certainly hit the spot! While it took me longer than it should to read this super cute book, it’s totally on me and has no bearing on my enjoyment level.
Helena Hunting’s signature comedy and witty banter shine through in this funny and emotional single parent romance. Kailyn and Dax’s relationship goes from tenuous and tumultuous to emotional and heartfelt. You will feel all the feels in this one.
What I loved:
The trope is winner.
I really enjoy this author’s wit and the amazing banter between the characters.
The book was a bit more emotional than previous works. That added to my enjoyment.
Overall, definitely a book to read!
My biggest issue with this book was the writing style, this book is a lot of reeling you things instead of showing you. The dialogue also felt like it was lacking personality.
The book also has a plot that is different from what the story is pitched as. I was expecting a really cute romance and that is not what we got.
This was by first read by Hunting, and I loved the romance and the multi-layered conflicts throughout the novel. There was much more depth beneath the surface of just a romance between the two main characters, and I think that the work and family tensions throughout the book heighten the emotional stakes in a way that's compelling and made me want to keep reading. Really enjoyed.
This book is every girls' fantasy of her childhood celebrity crush falling in love with her. Loved the chemistry between the characters and great use of romantic tropes.
The cover of the is book had me believing it would be a sweet little rom-com, but from the very beginning I knew it would be a little more. I easily found myself rooting for all three characters - Dax, Kailin and Emme. I liked that although it was a enemy turned friends turned more than friends book the author made Kailin the heroine. Great entertainment factor with a little bit of life lessons makes this a great read!!
If you go into this understanding that this isn't really a rom/com but explores more serious topics, you will enjoy this novel. I don't feel that the cover and title really do a great job of portraying what is inside. Other than that, this is a good romance that addresses some more weighty topics.
I'm a huge fan of HH, as I affectionately call her and this read was easy, humorous and steamy!
I don't want to rehash the story but basically Dax now has charge of his 13 year old sister (who I loved!) Enter Kailin, Dax's biggest fan!!!!
I must admit that I was expecting a light, fluffy romance but it wasnt quite that but it was still good!
Y’all this is so much more than what the cartoonish cover gives us. It’s a funny, steamy, cute rom com but it also reminds us how family isn’t always blood. Go read this. It’s sweet. Thanks to @helenahunting @netgalley and @hachettebooks for this review copy.
I really tried to finish this book so I could give it an accurate review however I did not find it capturing enough to keep me entertained to finish.
I have read several books by this author that I have enjoyed but sadly this book didn't work out in my favor. I couldn't connect to the characters and I did find the plot to be predictable at times. With that being said I will continue to read this author because I have enjoyed her other stories.
