This book was super cute and a quick, fun read!
Dax was a teen heartthrob on a super popular TV show and Kailyn was one of his many fangirls. They met in law school and had a connection, but there was a misunderstanding. Dax's parents hire Kailyn to oversee the trust for Dax's much younger sister and when his parents die unexpectedly, Kailyn is named conservator of his sister because his aunt is fighting him for custody of the sister. What the hell is up with the aunt? There are some complications at work and some other things that add to and drive this sexy, steamy plot that is guaranteed to give you hot and heavy dreams if you read it before bed.
Meet Cute was a wonderful story where Kaiyln literally runs into her former Hollywood crush Daxton on their first day of law school.
Fast forward 5 years later and they are reintroduced when Kailyn has to take on a case for Dax.
This book is full of loss and love. This was a wonderful story about loss and new beginnings.
Thank you to the publisher for granting my wish.

This was a fun little romance. The hate-to-love relationship provides lots of cute moments. It's a sweet, lighthearted read that is perfect for reading on vacation or by a pool.
I have recently had a run of luck with books where I have been loving everything I have been reading, which makes this title a little hard to rank. I am kind of neutral on this book. I liked it but I didn't LOVE it.
A great “meet cute” is one of my favorite parts of a romance novel. If you’re not familiar with the term, a “meet cute” is the sweet or humorous way in which two main characters first meet. This book has a fun yet awkward meet cute, as well as a really charming story.
Kailyn is smart and singularly focused on making partner at her law firm. I love how professional and level-headed she normally is, but she also has this dorky fangirl side. Former child TV star Dax is Kailyn’s old crush/rival.
Dax won me over with his kind heart and selflessness. The way in which Dax struggles to balance being both a loving brother and a responsible guardian to his emotional teenage sister is touching. I found Kailyn’s support of Dax and her growing relationship with Emme to be incredibly endearing. Kailyn’s romance with Dax is quite tender as well.
Although I really enjoyed the chemistry between the characters as well as the overall plot, the book is not without flaws. Some elements of the story just don’t ring true. Kailyn’s grudge against Dax is overemphasized and rather childish. Dax also has an incredibly annoying friend who pops up occasionally and shows zero character growth. I seriously have no idea why Dax is friends with him.
Ultimately, it is the emotional side of this romantic comedy that won me over. If you’re looking for an easy read with some feels, check out Meet Cute.
3.5 STARS
This was a cute, fast paced, delightful little gem of a romance that I devoured in one sitting. It checked all the boxes of a satisfying love story while delivering a refreshingly original take on what felt like an enemies to lovers romance. It was funny, it was fresh, it was just the right amount of heavy and it brought tears to my eyes unexpectedly. I really enjoyed this book!
I enjoyed this book, but it was not at all what I was expecting. I'd never read anything by Helen Hunting before but was drawn to this book because of the cute cover and title - anticipating a fun romcom read. The book ended up having a much heavier feel while dealing with themes of loss, grief, and heartbreak, and was not quite the lighthearted second chance romance I thought I was getting.
The book begins with Dax (former teen tv star) and Kaylin (longtime Dax super fan) literally bumping into each other on the first day of law school sparking an immediate competitive rivalry. Things go down, they go their separate ways, and Kaylin holds a grudge. Fast forward a bunch of years to Dax suddenly becoming guardian to his teenage sister and dealing with the aftermath of his parent's tragic death. Kaylin, the lawyer for Dax's sister's trust, becomes entangled in her former frenemy's legal and familial drama (hello, forced proximity!). The characters had ok chemistry and were all fairly likable but somewhat flat. The villain was super predictable and I kept wishing they would figure it out faster! The actor/super fan plot felt like it was added for a bit of fun quirk to an otherwise pretty serious book but seemed disjointed. It fluctuated between being front and center at times and unacknowledged at others. Even though I liked that aspect of the characters' backstory, it almost seemed like two different ideas or plots combined into one book?? It's an interesting relationship and definitely could have been explored more.
This enemies to lovers tale was thematically heavier than expected, but it was a quick read that I finished it in one sitting. It felt a little bait and switch-y, but ultimately I did enjoy the book. I would probably recommend it to contemporary romance readers but with a disclaimer that it's not the light read you might expect it to be. Also, while reading it I kept imagining it as a film. So many of these new contemporary romance novels seem to be written in a way that is practically begging for a screen adaptation.
MEET CUTE wasn't just a fun book, it was romantic, sweet and heartwarming, with wonderful characters and a deep and strong message to the readers, it was a tale about second chances, about lost and grief, and about rebuilding your life -with the ups and downs, and everything in between. The rhythm, the structure... everything about this book made it one I couldn't put down. Helena Hunting delivers another wonderful book, and it goes straight to my list of favorites, from the fun and quirky cover to the addictive story inside.
I really loved this story. It was a second chance, enemies to lovers book with a single dad twist. Dax, Kailyn, and Emme were so much fun to read about. We got the back story of Dax and Kailyn and that made watching them get back to each other even better. This was one I picked up and didn't put down until I was finished. If was fun, funny, and sexy!
I was so ready to enjoy this book. As a fellow fangirl, I immediately connected with Kailyn. I loved her POV in the first two chapters. However, as soon as we get to Daxton's first chapter, I stopped enjoying it. In his first chapter, tragedy strikes, and the way in which he is informed and then reacts was so unbelievable to me that I couldn't stop thinking about it. It definitely ruined the rest of the book to me. It was such an outlandish way to handle this situation. I will still recommend this book to patrons looking for contemporary romance, but it won't be very high up on my list.
Thank you to NetGalley, Helena Hunting, and Forever for providing me with the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
OMG! I was so surprised by how much I loved this book. I loved the characters and the love story and even the conflict. It really made me happy. Can't wait to read more by this author.
This was cute (lol).
Dax and Kailyn meet in law school when she embarrasses herself by fangirling when meeting him because he was an actor who starred in her favorite show. They end up being in some classes together and strike up a friendly (?) rivalry. Fast-forward to present-day and they meet again when Dax's parents hire Kailyn to set up a trust for his 13-year-old sister. She isn't as impressed by him this time around: she's been carrying a grudge against him because she believes it's his fault she didn't graduate first in their class. They don't see each other again for several months, when his parents tragically die, leaving him guardian to his little sister. This angers his aunt and sets off a custody battle that Kailyn is drawn into, and their relationship blossoms from there.
I liked this book, but I wanted more. I wanted more tension from their rivalry, but they seemed to fall into a comfortable "found family" situation, which I typically like, but it was a little too easy in this situation. Sure, they have a (rightfully so) traumatized teenager and a custody battle to keep things eventful, but it was a little too obvious what was really going on. The majority of the issues in this book could've been resolved in minutes if they just communicated better. That was my only frustration though; I did like it overall. The book was cute, and their banter was definitely funny.
Thanks to Forever and NetGalley for the eARC! This review will be posted to Goodreads, and to Amazon's and Barnes and Noble's websites at the time of publication.
I have read a couple of books by Helena Hunting, and what books I have read, were rom-coms, so to me, Meet Cute took this author to a whole new level. I was not prepared for the sense of devastation nor the emotional turmoil that Meet Cute was / is. Helena Hunting really took a step into a completely different box and did it beautifully. Meet Cute is exactly that, cute, but with tons of emotional baggage, the title and it's meaning fit perfectly for Kailyn and Dax. This novel faces real life issues, with real life expectations, and this author did an amazing job of showcasing the emotional roller coaster that comes along with loving someone and experiencing the unthinkable. It was so dang realistic and believable. I will say to me there wasn't really a character development in both Kailyn and Dax. That could be because this novel focus' on a span of a couple of months, besides the prologue. I really wish we could have seen more of Dax and Kailyn after the plot was settled. Other than that, it was a good read.
Kailyn is a senior associate at Whitman and Flood. Her goal and promise she made, is to make partner before turning thirty, so she doesn't really time outside of her professional life. She is a tell it like it is, no bs girl. She has a big personality that likes to differentiate herself from others, and has a love for silly pens, and childhood TV shows.
Dax is humble, so humble in fact, he wishes everyone would let him live down his childhood stardom, and recognize him as the professional he is. He has never been much of playboy, and has never really wanted to settle down. He is responsible, and always puts family first.
After a meet cute experience years earlier, Dax and Kailyn are face to face yet again. Despite the grudges held, they are forced to come together as Dax gains soul-guardianship of his 13 year old sister. The more time they spend together, the more yearning. Can the the grudges be left in the past? Or is more betrayal in the future?
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Meet Cute by Helena Hunting is a fun, sexy joy of a book to read. Kailyn Flowers runs into Daxton Hughes former teen heartthrob her first day of law school when she accidentally wanders into the the middle of a frisbee game and embarrasses herself completely when she fangirls all over him. They establish a friendly rivalry but Dax’s betrayal just before they graduate leaves Kaitlyn feeling bitter. Five years after Law School he re-enters her life when Dax and his parents come to see Kailyn about setting up a trust for his younger sister. Shortly after that a tragic accident takes the lives of his parents and Dax’s existence changes from carefree bachelor to guardian of a teen and embroiled in a custody battle with his Aunt. Kailyn is appointed as conservator of the trust during the custody battle and if she can convince Dax to come work for her law firm she will make partner. Things begin to heat up between them and Kailyn finds herself conflicted between her feeling for Dax and her career ambitions. I’ve enjoyed reading this book and do recommend it it. This was a cute read for a rainy day. The characters, Kailyn and Daxton, had good chemistry and the plot was as the title says...cute. I didnt love the book and much as I thought I would though. I usually love enemies to lovers romance but this one didn't pull me in as much as I was hoping. I liked it but I didn't love it. 3 stars.
Title: Meet Cute
Author: Helena Hunting
Publication: 4/19/2019
Synopsis: Kailyn and teen heartthrob, Daxton have a definite meet cute their first day of law school. They remain friends throughout law school until he betrays her weeks before graduation. Fast forward eight years and they meet again, but it's not so cute!
Opinion: Meet Cute is so cute!! I read this book in one afternoon of spring break. It is definitely a quick read, but it does cover some pretty emotional topics. I liked that the sexual aspects were not the storyline, nor too detailed. Yes there are sex scenes, but not the kind that make you embarrassed to be reading the book!
Rating: 5/5 Stars!
Helena Hunting hit's it out of the park with this one . Funny, sweet, and a fantastic story and fans of the author will be excited to read this book.
Kailyn and Dax meet after the most embarrassing moment of Kailyn's life, one minute she was walking to her law class and the next minute she’s tangled up in Dax who just happens to be the actor she had a major crush on during her teens. Turns out he is also a law student. She never thought their meet-cute would turn into a friendship that would also lead to betrayal. Fast forward 8 years and Kailyn is on the verge of making partner when Dax shows up needing legal advice. This story was a little bit more serious then I was expecting, it airs on the side of drama rather than comedy, it’s still great though and then are some light moments. I loved Kailyn, she is a badass I’d definitely want her as my lawyer, she’s a real tough cookie but has a soft centre. She is fiercely protective of the people she cares about. Dax was ok - I don’t want to be negative but I didn’t feel that strong of a connection with him. I enjoyed reading the chapters from his POV but yeah he was ok as a love interest, he’s pretty moody sometimes but he was great with Kailyn and they really worked well together. I loved their banter.
Loved this story, it was simply beautiful! This is by far my favorite book from this author for sure!
An adorable rom-com! I was squealing & giggling in true fan-girl fashion, from beginning to end!!! I would definitely recommend. Good Luck Charm is hard to beat, but I loved this one in a different way. Thanks to the publisher for my free copy. Add this one to your list!
