She wakes up in the hospital having survived a terrible car crash. They tell her that her name is Chloe Daniels, age 32, but she doesn’t remember anything. She had been in a coma for a month. Now, she is recuperating at her parents’ home trying to heal and regain her memory. Her father is a psychiatrist and has been working with her to help her remember her past. Her parents haven’t told her anything about her past because they want her to remember on her own. She has brief flashes of what may be memories, but she doesn’t know what it means. As controlling as her father is, it isn’t until she finds a photo that makes her insist on questioning a number of things.
To the extent that her healing body will let her, she starts her own search for who she is and what really happened to her. She knows that someone is lying and she isn’t sure who it is and why they are lying.
This story builds as Chloe decides to push past her father’s protectiveness and begin her own investigation of what happened by talking to people she was supposed to know. Slowly, pieces of the puzzle start to come together and the truth is a wild crescendo that will have the reader flipping pages as fast as they can.
Whew! What a ride this book is. Oh my, the things that people do. Don’t miss this one. It’s good!

This psychological thriller kept me reading and guessing who was telling the truth, if indeed anyone was. Chloe Daniels wakes up in a hospital with amnesia and her seemingly well-meaning family decides to take her home and keep her in the dark about her life before the car accident. I didn’t like her father at all because he seemed to want to control Chloe’s memories instead of letting her recover them. Her mother seemed to care about her but was in total subjection to her father. I really liked her sister who seemed the most understanding. But one or all of them is lying to Chloe, lies of omission perhaps, but still lies. It is the reader’s task to figure out who is lying and what the truth is. I was brought along on Chloe’s trip to discover what really happened to her and to recover her lost memories. The book was enjoyable but somewhat predicatable, perhaps because I am an aficionado of thrillers. The short chapters were appealing to me since it was an easy book to read, told mostly from the viewpoint of Chloe. The pace of the book was very fast from the beginning until about halfway through. Once the revelations of the truth begin, the pace seems to slow down, but that was not a problem since it was expected. I liken the twists and turns in this book to entering a dark cave without a light and having a lot of different tunnels turning off in different directions. I did not know from one page to the next what would be revealed until I finally started figuring things out. Readers of psychological thrillers will not be disappointed since the book is interesting, attention-grabbing and thoroughly entertaining.
This was a great book on wondering how much you actually know. You think you know the whole story at the beginning but really you know nothing. Chloe is just trying to learn the truth but everyone is keeping it from her. They are also giving her a different truth. Who can she trust? When you finally find out what happened it makes you really question the people in her life. This book is heartbreaking in many different ways. The book also keeps you guessing.

This was my setup as I finished Between the Lies by Michelle Adams during nap time. I really enjoyed this one! Lies, memory loss, a few twists... I was completely immersed in the story trying to figure out what was going on in Chloe’s life. Go pick it up, this one comes out TODAY!! Now I’m going to go check out Michelle Adams’ debut, The Sister.
Between the Lies by Michelle Adams is a psychological thriller in which the main character has lost all of her memory keeping her guessing just as much as the readers do. After a severe brain injury Chloe awakens not only not knowing those around her but even her own name eludes her.
As she’s recovering Chloe’s parents have brought her home with them to take care of her. However Chloe only has more and more questions with each day going by when her parents refuse to give her much information on who she had been. As Chloe begins tod ig into herself she finds it seems no one is being truthful.
One thing I will say right away is Michelle Adams definitely is a good writer and I did find myself enjoying this one for the most part. For me though with a story like this i always feel things slow down in the middle of the story when we begin to get lie after lie. What is the old saying….fool me once… so as much as I wanted answers to what was going on I got a repetitive feel while waiting for the answers.

Between the Lies is the perfect title. So many lies. I'm pretty sure every time someone spoke in this book, it was a lie. I felt horrible for Chloe. She wakes up from a coma and has no memory. She relies on her family (whom she doesn't remember) to help her. Unfortunately, all they seem capable of is keeping secrets and lying. I would give the book 3.5 stars. I really liked Chloe. She was able to figure everything out without the support and help she should have been given. I also really liked Andrew. I wasn't a big fan of Chloe's family. Her father was simply awful and completely manipulative and CONTROLLING. It wasn't a big mystery who was involved with the accident. At first I wasn't sure and with all the lies I thought it was someone else, but I quickly realized who it was. That person was crazy and how could he/she do that.
I really liked the story, characters and writing style. I had to keep reading because I wanted to find out the truth about the accident. I wasn't expecting how everything happened. I n the end I know Chloe actually has someone who loves her. She deserves that after what she went through. I'm not sure if I would have liked her pre-accident. I kept hoping she would tell the police what was going on at home.
Definitely recommend the book. It was a quick read and has many twists and turns. At times you will be guessing to what is going on. I look forward to reading more books by the author.

Decent Read...
If you can't trust your family, who can you trust?
I enjoyed this book even if parts of it were predictable. Some of it did keep me guessing until the end. I will definitely look for more by this author.
I enjoyed the mystery behind this book, Chloe losing her memory and slowly trying to gain it back. I had a huge problem with her family and them trying to "help" her get her memory back. It was a little slow for me at times but fast paced at times as well. Overall decent read.
So many twists and turns and goodness and lies and deceit abound in this book. Chloe is a car accident and awakes in the hospital after being in a coma. Now she is surrounded by people who claim to be her family but she has no memory of them or of her life. When she is released from the hospital she goes home with them and even though they give her snippets of her so-called life. She is definitely uncomfortable and knows there are lies and darkness but does not know why. Twists and turns kept me on the edge and turning the pages faster than I thought possible. Definitely a recommendation from me!

What would it be to have no memories then gradually have pieces of memories come pack. It’s like a puzzle. No one will help you solve the puzzle. That is the premise of this book. It is written tightly and very thoughtful. I kept thinking what would I feel like. The anxiety the main character reveals adds to the desperation to the book. Thank you to # NetGalley #StMartinsPress #Betweenthelines for an unbiased evaluation.
What a twisted spider web of deceit! Lots of suspense in this slow burn psychological thriller. The thoughts of the creepy unknown person added a lot to this story. Chloe had her faults but no one deserves to be put through such an ordeal. Highly recommended!
This was one of those books that had me staying up way too late because I couldn’t find a spot I wanted to “pause” reading! This book was full of emotions, sorrow, pain, paranoia, and Lies.
The author is really good at creating moods and scenes. The always dreary raining weather was perfect backdrop to this dark story.
Thank you to the author, #Netgalley, and the publisher for my free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Between the Lies is a story built on an unreliable narrator and the never ending feeling of doom and gloom for our main character, Chloe. Chloe is a woman suffering from amnesia. Though she is constantly reassured by her father that the treatments she is undergoing will get her to the truth of her life, what happened to her and why can't she remember who she is.I do love amnesia stories for this very reason, the narrator can't necessarily be trusted but as the reader you have to decide if you can trust their gut reactions, because if they don't know facts surely they can still follow their instincts.
We quickly learn about Chloe's situation, she's living with her parents and that her father is "treating" her condition. The story unfolds at apace that keeps the readers attention. As she uncovers more, we start to see just how much she is being manipulated, all in the name of "protecting" her.
"And even though I’m confused about most things, there is one thing I do know: you can’t bring the dead back to life. The old Chloe is gone , and I’m afraid I might never get her back. I’m more afraid that my family don’t want me to."
The memories she's lost include just about everything in her life. She has to trust the people calling themselves her family, but as an adult it's clear something bad happened and she isn't been told what that is. The author creates her background through unveiling characters, people she's had in her life, some as red herrings and some that she should pay closer attention to. Even as certain truths come to light, she has to remain on guard. Throughout the story readers are shared a variety of letters obviously written to Chloe, and cleverly Adams leaves them unsigned, adding to the mystery.
It all culminates in a really well built psychological thriller bringing Chloe's life full circle. This is a great read from a new to me author. 4 Stars and recommendation!
I really enjoyed Between the Lies by Michelle Adams, although I did find the beginning a bit slow and hard to get into. But as the story moved along, the pace improved and definitely caught my attention a lot more.
Our main character Chloe, wakes up in the hospital, surrounded by her family, although she has no idea who she is, who her family is or what has happened to her that left her in a coma for around a month. As she heads home with her parents to recover, she gets the feeling that all is not well and that her family doesn't really want her to get her memories back.
This was definitely an interesting thriller that was filled with different plot twists throughout. It was one of those books where you spend the whole time trying to figure out what is going on, who is lying and who is actually telling the truth. I look forward to reading what the author writes in the future.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for sending me an ARC of this book.
Between the Lies is a compelling thriller, one that I couldn't put down.
With its gloomy weather and creaky, old house, this book is very atmospheric. It's like a Gothic mystery set in modern times. Since I'm always in the mood for a good Gothic thriller, I really enjoyed that part of the book.
Chloe starts out as a rather passive character, which is understandable given her current, medical state. At the very first, I thought she was a bit too trusting because it isn't clear if she's among friends or enemies. As the story builds, however, Chloe becomes more aggressive in her attempts to find out who she is and if her family is lying to her.
The other characters in the story are interesting as well. Chloe's overbearing father and her distressed mother seem to mean well when taking care of Chloe, but there's an undercurrent of mistrust. When reading this, you know that something's wrong, but you don't know what it is. There's a hidden secret waiting to be discovered.
This is what makes the book so compelling. I read it very quickly because I had to know how it ended!
The ending didn't come as a complete surprise, but I appreciated the clues leading up to the final pages. I like how things wrapped up. It was a satisfying ending, one that fit the tone of the rest of the book.
If you like thrillers, then Between the Lies is for you! Four out of five stars.

When Chloe wakes up she cannot remember anything. She doesn’t know what has happened to her, but she is seriously injured. Her father is giving her therapy, but slowly Chloe finds out people are not being honest about her life preaccident. Can Chloe discover the difference between the truth and lies?

What I loved: The depth of the story was well written. It was not too far fetched, which sometimes happens in physiological thrillers. I felt for Chloe and really needed to know what happened to her. The plot was not slowed by useless characters- every character had a purpose and did not overplay their role.
•
What I didn’t: I was able to guess the ending. I kind of hate being able to guess! 😂 But what stopped this from being 5 stars is I use that for books I would reread!

Happy to recommend this book to psychological thriller readers!
Imagine waking up from being in a coma for over a month with no recollection of who you are or what happened to you. Now add to that the fact that those who are supposed to have your best interest at heart, your family, seem to be hiding some things from you. This is exactly the position in which Chloe Daniels finds herself.
Released from the hospital, she is taken to her family home, rather than her own home, after her father declares it unsafe for her to be on her own yet. A psychiatrist at the hospital she was in, he demands that they have private sessions to help Chloe in her recovery. Of course, treating a family member goes against all medical professional ethics, yet he insists. Chloe, a bit frightened of him, doesn't know what or who to believe. The more the family talks, the more inconsistencies she's finding in what they're saying. Things just don't match up. She's also starting to remember bits and pieces about the accident and her life in her dreams, but isn't sure whether they are accurate. And someone doesn't want her to remember. Chloe is still in danger!
There have been other books on this subject before, but I found Between the Lies to be riveting. I would have read it straight through had my Kindle not kept falling on me as I tried to stay awake to find out what happens (come on, admit it, this has happened to you too!). There are plenty of twists and turns, plenty of lies being told, lots of people with their own agendas. Like Chloe, the reader doesn't know the truth until the end.
I highly recommend this book.

This is your typical woman has amnesia story. She can’t remember anything from her past and she can’t trust those around her. The storyline was very predictable and pretty much met my expectations. If you are a suspense/thriller reader you may be dissatisfied. There was nothing really fascinating or thrilling happening with the characters. Despite it being predictable it was a very slow read for me, which I think is due to lack of interest or investment in the characters. Not a memorable read. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Chloe Daniels wakes up in a hospital bed, confused she looks around to discover she has no idea how she got here and who these people are. In fact she doesn't even know her name. Following a horrific car accident Chloe struggles with extensive injuries, including a head injury that is causing her severe memory problems.
This was absolutely terrifying right from the start as we watch Chloe struggle to place the people around her that are claiming to be family. She is forced to go home with them to a secluded gated home where she has no contact with anyone else other than them. Are they really who they say they are? Or is there more to this story?
This gave me chills as I had trouble trusting Chloe's family members and their rather unorthodox approach to helping Chloe heal. I found myself constantly wondering if they were telling her the truth or spinning a reality they wanted her to believe. Why would anyone lie and what would be their motive? My gut feeling was there was something off with the dynamics of this family and it left me with a creepy uneasy feeling.
I found myself getting more suspicious of everyone in Chloe's life. It was hard for me to decipher what was simply Chloe's altered mental status and what was reality. This led to a suspense filled ending that I did not see coming. This had me flipping the pages in search of Chloe's truth and what really happened the night of the accident.
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press, Michelle Adams and NetGalley for this ARC.
3.5 Stars Lies, deception and betrayal, Between the Lies was an engaging thriller. I enjoyed the premise and the characters and will be looking to read more by this author
