Hadn't realised this was part of a series when I requested this from Netgalley but after a little digging found that this was book 3. went away and read those so I could understand this one better. enjoyed the series and this one especially. well written and characters are relatable.

From the outset this story had me gripped. A boy disappears in seemingly impossible circumstances. How could it happen!? Enter our maverick pair of investigators with backgrounds and histories seemingly as deep and dark as the crimes they investigate.

I was swept along with this fast paced story. It thoroughly engrossed me. So much was thrown in our investigators paths to prevent them from getting to the truth. Even the police seemed bent on destroying them, maybe even murdering one of them. Why?

I particularly enjoyed how the author brought in occasional pieces of light relief. Mostly centred around the antics of kittens and ducks and old bikers. There’s even a spot of romance but mostly the story is dark and deep and kept me guessing until the very end. Wasn’t expecting that. Excellent story. A real sleep stealer. Watch out for the crocs!

This book was I think number three in a series, which I didn’t realise when I started reading it. There were a few things that were mentioned that made me wonder if this was the case though, and a quick Amazon search confirmed things. To be honest, this wasn’t really an issue, and this reads just fine as a stand alone. The premise behind this an interesting one, and I enjoyed the characters in it a lot. It was perhaps a little predictable in places, but I still enjoyed it and would read more by this author – probably the ones that came before this one in the series for starters.

What a brilliant read. I love the Crimson Lake series and this is the best one so far. I really like the way the author writes it's snappy and funny and her characters are easily recognisable and real. A recommended read.

Candice Fox's books featuring Ted and Amanda, two private detectives who solve cases that seem to elude the Police are fast becoming one of my favourite series. Ted, the former policeman who left the police because he was accused of a crime (for which he was later exonerated but the mud still seems to have stuck) and Amanda, who did, as a young person, kill someone. These two are an unlikely coupling, serious Ted can sometimes be cautious and is keen to do the right thing whereas impulsive Amanda pushes the boundaries, yet they need each other and work well together. Both are regularly handicapped by the rather inept ( and often malicious) police force in the town they live in. I like the addition of Ted's small daughter in this book, his dealings with her show both his love for her and his sadness at not being able to play a bigger part in his life. Amanda's interaction with Lillian is also interesting. I have read the books that preceded this, but I'm sure that it's a book that can be picked up and read as a one off. I'm already looking forward to the next in the series!

A good book that had me hooked from the very opening chapters, and well written. Full of suspense and surprise.

I really enjoyed this book - it was similar to another book I had previously read but that didn't matter and I thought the ending was really well done. Recommended.

Thank You To Netgalley & Publishers For Granting My Request To Review This Book.
This Book Was Out Of My Comfort Zone In The Fact That, It’s Not Usually The Type Of Book I Request From Netgalley.
I Had A Lot Of Trouble Reading This On My Kindle (Not Sure But I Think There Was A Problem In The Downloading Of It).
This Book Is The Third In A Series Which I Didn’t Know When I Requested But I Found I Didn’t Miss Much With Not Reading The First Two Novels.
“Gone By Midnight” Focuses On A Little Boys Disappearance And And The Search’s Him.
I Enjoyed The Interaction Between The Detectives Searching For Little Richie And How Their Backstorys Were Interwoven With This Script.
An Enjoyable Twist That I Didn’t See Coming, Which Makes This Book Stand Apart Front Others In It’s Genre.
I Gave This Book Three Stars Purely Because Of How I Was Unable To Read It Properly On My Kindle. If I’d Have Read This In Hardback/Paperback, It Wouldve Been More

Another interesting outing for the private investigators created by Ms Fox - all the usual characters are in play and the chemistry between Ted and Amanda, the two PIs, continues to entertain. The Australian location again provides relief from the otherwise standard fare of UK or US towns and cities. Whilst this was an entertaining book that held my interest and demanded a few more chapters than planned be read each evening, it may be time for Ms Fox to explore more new settings so that the chemistry between the two main characters can develop further. If you've read earlier novels in the Crimson Lake series you won't be disappointed - if you haven't, you have the delight ahead of discovering an author who has written a pleasing number of entertaining novels with interesting, quirky and engaging characters. Recommended.

When Richie Farrow, an 8 year old boy goes missing from a hotel room his mom Sarah asks for Private Investigator Ted Concaffey to help her with the investigation into his disappearance. Ted had previously been a police officer until he was falsely accused of the abduction of a young girl. His partner, Amanda Pharrel is also an ex-convict found guilty of murder. Ted and Amanda agree to help but realise that Sarah's story doesn't add up. Fighting against the prejudice of the police, and a personal vendetta against Amanda - the two investigators assist with the case which takes an unexpected turn.

Another great story of the work Ted and Amanda do despite the difficulties of working with the police. Their personal histories add colour to their characters and is told at a steady pace that leaves you turning the pages.

This book is number three in a series but reads well as a standalone book. There are some very intriguing and complex characters - I particularly liked the MC and his quirky sidekick and disliked their nemesis. I am going to try and write this next bit without spoilers....my only disappointment with this book is the way that it ended because I got my hopes up that Amanda was about to discover where he was hidden (which would have been in a very unique place) but it ended in an entirely different (and less unique) way. I understand why the author chose that ending as it does add to the story but I think what it adds to the story could have been brought in to the other ending. Having said this I do want to make it clear that this book is very well written, it is my personal preference for a happier ending that has led me to feel disappointed.

Yet another excellent book in the Crimson Lake series which I am happy to give five stars to. I love the way Candice Fox keeps the thread of the whole series entwined yet keeps a stand alone book there too.
I do so want a happy ending ultimately for Ted and Amanda but not sure how that could ever happen. There is definitely room for at least one more thriller using these characters.... she says hopefully!!

Gone By Midnight, unbeknownst to me is part of a series, however the story easily stands alone and you don’t feel as if you’re missing anything. Set in Australia, a group of couples and a newly single mother spend their vacation in Crimson Lake, and one evening one of the boys goes missing. A damaged pair of PI’s are tasked with resolving the mystery of Richie’s disappearance. I like that the private investigators have truly tarnished pasts and the supporting stories didn’t detract from what happened to Richie. A refreshing crime thriller with edge.

Unfortunately the copy that downloaded to my kindle didn't download properly and the passages kept jumping out of sync.
I did persevere with this book which I found a bit dark in places but I suppose due to the subject was to be expected and it was quite predictable as to who was responsible for the boy going missing.
Good but not a favourite of mine.

An interesting story and captivating storyline that has kept me fascinated right up to the final page. Twists and turns with red herrings thrown in. Definitely recommended.

I love a good thriller and this was a great example of the genre. Kept me turning the pages. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this.

Absolutely loved this thriller, couldn't put it down! I was absolutely intrigued by the premise and the ultimate resolution - which gave me a real "oh of course!" moment. It was also refreshing to see a female detective that didn't fall into the usual stereotypes. Loved it and can't wait to read more by this author.
