I always and enjoy her books but this was a little off for me. I guessed "HIM" early and felt I was being led down the wrong path a few times. Overall still good, but not her best..
I usually love Joy Fielding’s book. This book was very different than her other book. It revolves around four women and online dating sights. It was a good plot in which there is a serial killer on the dating sites and you are led to believe who of the four girls will land up with the serial killer. I was disappointed because I figured out early on into the book who it would be even though the author keeps throwing out to the readers that it will be someone else. Also, the book blurb implies that the other girl’s will have to try and save her but it ends abruptly and I felt short changed. I did enjoy the book but not one of her best. I received this book from net galley as an ARC for an honest review. Thank you net galley.
How much do you really know about that new friend or follower you connected with on social media or online dating site? Could a psychopath be searching for that “right” person to victimize as they are looking at the seemingly benign photos and posts that you upload concerning yourself and your family? These are some of the questions you might ask yourself after reading this book. Joy Fielding has written an enthralling psychological thriller about the intertwined relationship between four women. Paige, her mother Joan, best friend Chloe and her cousin Heather (with whom Paige has a strained relationship), all have their own personal agendas for exploring online dating. The suspense as the story unfolds will keep you on your toes. Joy Fielding is a master of thriller and suspense novels. The character narrative of the serial killer in the story is absolutely chilling. I don't think I will easily forget this one.
I love Joy Fielding’s books, I think I started reading her novels since the ’90s! She has a new one coming out called All The Wrong Places. I am so excited to share this book, its a fun read and it will keep you entertained.
Online dating is risky—will that message be a sweet greeting or an unsolicited lewd photo? Will he be as handsome in real life as he is in his photos, or were they taken ten years and twenty pounds ago? And when he asks you to go home with him, how do you know it’s safe? The man calling himself “Mr. Right Now” in his profile knows that his perfect hair, winning smile, and charming banter put women at ease, silencing any doubts they might have about going back to his apartment. There, he has a special evening all planned out: steaks, wine, candlelight . . . and, by the end of the night, pain and a slow, agonizing death.
Driven to desperation—by divorce, boredom, infidelity, a beloved husband’s death—a young woman named Paige, her cousin and rival Heather, her best friend, Chloe, and her mother, Joan, all decide to try their hand at online dating. They each download an app, hoping to right-swipe their way to love and happiness.
But one of them unwittingly makes a date with the killer, starting the clock on a race to save her life.
The premise of this book is so timely! And it’s not hard to see how this could actually happen in real life, it’s very real. While the book deals with the scary aspects of online dating, its also about the relationships of the women with each other. Definitely a book to put on your Must Read list.
Riveting. Chilling. An up-all-nighter. Just when you think you see something coming, you get smacked upside the head from an entirely different direction.
Ok I have read all of Joy Fieldings books and loved every single one until this one. I hate to say it but in my opinion this is her less exciting non thriller novel.. All of her others have been "thrill suspense keep you on the edge of your seat" but sadly not this one. It was very disappointing. Ok Paige is a young recently single woman who tries out a couple of dating sites to get back in the game. Little does she know there is a serial killer on the loose who uses dating sites to reel in his victims. Told from the narratives of our serial killer, Paige, her mother Joan, her best friend Chloe, and Paige's cousin Heather we find out the story through all of these character eyes. This serial killer stalks Paige thinking he willl add her to his list of unsuspecting victims but she is proving to be a little more difficuult to reel in and at the end he gets a unexpected surprise. Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Ballantine for my honest review on this ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle ARC of All The Wrong Places.
All the Wrong Places is not a thriller; you already know who the baddie is. It's really a closer look at the relationship drama between a mother, Joan and her daughter, Paige; Paige and her BFF, Chloe, and Paige's contentious relationship with her cousin, Heather and the dangers inherent in online dating, prevalent considering our modern age.
Be warned, there are many unsympathetic characters here and I'm not talking about the serial killer.
There are also triggers of sexual violence and torture so fair warning.
The women are going through difficult times in their personal lives and attempt to put themselves out there by going on dating sites.
Unfortunately, there's a serial killer lurking amongst them.
Nearly all of the women are unlikable with the exception of Joan, the mother; Paige is a daddy's girl still suffering the loss of her charismatic father's death (totally Freudian); Chloe is a doormat who finally wises up but spends a lot of time talking about how handsome and manly her husband is and how she will miss that if she left him (for real?); and forget about Heather; she's a stereotype of a stereotype of a mean girl found in every chick lit film or soap opera ever written or made.
There's a lot of hate and resentment simmering among the women, and it just got to be too too much; Paige hating on her uncle for still being alive while her dad had passed; ditto for Joan; Heather sowing her oats with Paige's ex bf, Chloe's incessant whining over her adultering husband's pretty face.
You know its a book when almost all the men the women are married to or were with are gorgeous. This is not real life.
The men in the ladies' lives are mostly adultering douches and let's not forget the serial killer.
He's a cookie cutter caricature of what a serial killer is, reminiscing about his twisted childhood and horrible parents and what made him who he is. Naturally, he's gorgeous, too. How else can he lure so many unsuspecting flies into his web?
There's a lot of filler; the serial killer pontificating about who is worthy of his time and attention and culinary skills; Paige showing her mom how to use a dating app, Chloe's domestic drama with her psycho husband, Heather's whining and moaning about trying to one-up her cousin.
You know its a bad sign when you don't care about what happens to most of the characters and that's exactly how I felt when I got to the ending.
All the Wrong Places is a fascinating mix of thriller, family drama and the story of a serial killer. It is an interesting look at online dating and some of the possible dangers. It was a bit confusing at times with all the different characters but as the story unwinds everything got sorted out. There are many surprises, twists and turns that kept me in suspense until the shocking, abrupt conclusion, making this an enjoyable read. I received this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
A grateful nod to Netgalley and Random House/Ballantine who allowed me to read an advance copy before it reaches bookstores on March 19. I can easily visualize the beginning scene as a lead-in to an episode of “Criminal Minds.” That scene got me to sit up and take notice of the chills running down my spine.
Paige, newly fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend in favor of her cousin, takes a stab at online dating. She lives with her mother who tries it, too. Several stories weave through the narration, but all the characters know each other so it’s not at all distracting.
I like that with Joy Fielding you know what you’re going to get. All her books have kept my interest piqued and never have slow spots. That’s also true with this one, which I highly recommend.
I don’t agree with many of the reviewers on Goodreads. It is definitely a thriller and a very good one. March right into your bookstore on March 12th and grab a copy.
I am a big fan of Joy Fielding's writing and this book did not disappoint. A thriller with a serial killer, on-line dating, a mother, daughter, cousin, and best friend. The characters were well developed, some more likable than others.. It is an inside look at on-line dating and some of the possible risks. The ending was a surprise. Thank you to the publisher, author and Net Galley for the opportunity to read the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
All The Wrong Places is a story of a very relevant topic, online dating. This book might make you think twice about it. A thrilling engaging story that got my attention and held it all the way to the end. A great read.
AMAZING!! This is the second book by Joy Fielding that I have read and I love every second of it! Highly recommend this read. She is a master at writing suspenseful novels and her characters are always well written and come alive on the pages.
Another fantastic suspense novel from Joy Fielding. So many twists and turns. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Especially the last one! I highly recommend All The Wrong Places. :)
You can count on Fielding to write a thriller - and once again she has written a great one -
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review -
Paige and Heather are cousins and sadly everything that Paige has Heather wants.
So when Paige looses her boyfriend to Heather she joins a dating site.
She discovers a very handsome man named Mr. Right - but is he really who he says he is?
Grab this book for a thrilling read!
Thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for this ARC.
I have enjoyed several novels by Joy Fielding and this one didn't disappoint.
It is a very well written thriller with believable characters and dealing with a contemporary topic which is online dating.
The plot is pacey with enough surprises to engage the reader.
I would recommend this novel and looking forward to read more from the author.
i Have always enjoyed Fielding’s books, eagerly anticipating the next book. However, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as her others. This novel is about the mysterious and often dangerous aspects of on-line dating and how four different women’s lives are impacted by it. The book seemed to drag on in parts about the four females and their relationship to each other. The ending seemed abrupt., not finished. Maybe a another book to pick up where this one ended? Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC.
The story centers around a loosely-connected family: Paige and her mother (both single); Paige's cousin, Heather (and her family) and also Paige's best friend, Chloe, (and her husband, Matt). And of course Paige's ex - Noah (who happens to currently living with Heather). Confused? It's OK - they all become sorted in no time. In fact, the characters are so well developed that even the minor ones have a grip to them. And let's not forget "Mr. Right Now".
So as not to let out any of the surprises (and there are a few) -the major parts of this read center around the internet - internet dating, mainly. And basically, Paige. "Mr. Right Now" becomes a permanent fixture in the reader's mind as do his "dates". The saga of Paige's mother's life and Paige's best friend's marriage are also quite evident but not so much as is Paige, herself.
Throughout the story, Paige does miss Noah, Chloe and her husband have problems and Heather has trouble following through with things - the opposite of her cousin (who she loves to copy).
This is quite a very good read. I did not find myself distracted - I read it in one day. This book spans the genres of fiction, women's fiction, thrillers & suspense.
Many thanks to both Random House Publishing - Ballantine and NetGalley for a remarkably good read!
Very good read. Keeps your interest and is very well written. Good book about 4 women who are seeking mates/love on the internet. The results will keep you reading this book every chance you get. I look forward to more from this author. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book. Although I received the book in this manner, it did not effect my opinion of this book nor my review.
ALL THE WRONG PLACES was an interesting mix of family drama and the story of a serial killer. Paige is recovering from a bad breakup (she caught her boyfriend cheating on her with her cousin) and moves back in with her mother, who has been lost since her husband's death two years prior. As the two women try to find their way forward, the have no idea that they have caught the attention of a serial killer. Good character development and interesting plot. The serial killer's persona was a bit hackneyed, but otherwise a very good read.
I have read Joy Fielding for over 30 years. Her books are like old friends. I have read them all and she has had hits and misses, but they are all comforting, fast, easy reads. Like Lifetime movies. This one falls in between a hit and a miss in that it is definitely fast-paced with something happening in each chapter. I enjoyed all of the characters, even annoying Heather, and their points of views, I pretty much had the ending figured out but it was still a fun ride, I just wasn't crazy about the FINAL ending. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I would have liked one part to be a different resolution. All in all though, I can definitely recommend this one!
