By now I've had the pleasure of reading the entire book and I've already forgotten what happened in the chapter of this excerpt so this review will be for the entire book, spoiler free of course.
This book was amazing and the reason it took me awhile to write this review is because I couldn't write anything more than asdfghjkl. This book was so good it knocked my socks off. It kept me at the edge of my seat and I need more!
Truthwitch, Windwitch and Sightwitch were all building up to all the reveals in this book and yet there is so much more that still needs to be revealed.
Let's see if I can say anything about Aeduan and Iseult without screaming. AAAAAAH. Okay I failed. Apologies. Let's try again. *deep breath* alright, I loved the angst between these too. And I couldn't help myself and kept screaming KISS ALREADY so Sooz did an amazing job writing them because I don't usually crave for people to kiss, I know I'm getting that kiss anyhow, but not with Sooz, oh no with Sooz nothing is certain.
I wish we got more Safi badassery, but I'm sure we'll get that in the next book. And she was still plenty badass in this book. Her friendship with the hellbards is freaking gold. Love it.
This book was everything I never knew I needed and more. Solid 5 stars for this beast of a book and I need the next installment NOW.
I thought this was a full book but I am very excited for this release! This series has been a gem and this excerpt just made me more excited for Bloodwitch!
Nah I did not care for this series and this book was just the final straw. I did not like it, the characters, anything. I am sorry but it was a no from me.
This book is amazing. I ought my self a copy as soon a it came out because I knew I needed to know how it would end! Susan Dennard is a fabulous writer and I adore everything she writes. These characters are amazing.
I am absolutely thrilled to read the complete third installment of The Witchlands series! Susan Dennard has a way of writing interesting, intriguing, and lovable characters that is unparalleled to other authors. Her world building is phenomenal and her plots are always compelling. Aeduan is one of the characters of this series that I was most interested in getting to know better and I can't wait for this release!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for release of this book in exchange for an honest review!!
Lets just say, this books was a great addition to the rest of this series. There is really not a lot I can say because I don't want to spoil this book for those that have not read the series! I really enjoyed the world building.
I am finally giving up on this series. I just don't think it is for me. I struggled really hard with the first two in the series and trying to get through this excerpt was a struggle as well. I can't pinpoint what it is exactly that puts me off this series cause on the surface it has everything I was in a book. I think just my previous concerns with this series tainted the rest of the series.
I forget JUST how much I enjoy the Witchlands, until I read about the Witchlands. "Bloodwitch," the third book in the series, is the best of the series so far.
I have found time and again that many multi-installment book series lose their spark as the series progress, but this one does the exact opposite. The action is fast-paced, and split between numerous points of view, all of which are equally exciting and enjoyable. They're flawed, they're real, and did I mention the enormous amounts of good, old-fashioned UST for many of the story's couples? The world-building is superb, all the expansion of the universe and new insights into its mysteries being completely revelatory and engrosing. The tension is tangible, both the good and the bad kind, the twists coming in fast and furious, making the story completely unpredictable. And yet somehow you know you can trust the author to deliver, that all these separate agendas will one day convene into the finale of all finales.
If there is a picture illustrating the word "unputdownable" in the dictionary, it has to be one of "Bloodwitch".
Keep 'em coming, Dennard.
BLOODWITCH is the phenomenal third entry into THE WITCHLANDS series. An epic quest, brilliant characters, magic, politics, tension; this is the standard all high fantasy should strive to reach.
Absolutely loving this series so much! Thank you for the preview to this book and I am definitely buying myself a finished copy!
I absolutely love the Witchlands Series, and I cannot wait to finish this 3rd book! I love the witchery and world building that Susan Dennard implemented into this story.
First, the Bloodwitch is my favorite in The Witchlands series so far. SO SO SO GOOD:)
Second, for anyone who hasn't read Sightwitch yet, you really need to! It's going to fill in so many "Need to knows" for Bloodwitch.
I was unable to download and read the preview excerpt for Bloodwitch before it was archived. I look forward to reading a finished copy when I can get my hands on one.
Just when you thought the series couldn't get any better it does. It was so amazing to be given a small excerpt of this novel before it's release date! The only bad thing is the length, I need more now! I honestly can't wait to buy the full book!
Just when you think the Witchlands can't get any better, it does!! Baeduan really is just the most amazing thing ever, and this preview made me really hyped for the whole book (like I wasn't already hyped before.) Smeagle voice, "I needs it."
I haven’t read the first two books in the series, though they’ve been on my To Read List for years now, when the opportunity to read this came up, I had to jump at it. There are a variety of points of view we follow; Safi the Truthwitch, Vivia the Queen-in-Waiting of the Nubrevan throne, Merik a Windwitch, Iseult a Threadwitch and Aeduan the Bloodwitch. Each character is in dire situations that captivate the reader from the first page.
The magic system of these books was intriguing, from witches that can use magic to control the elements to people that wield unique magic like sensing the truth, controlling blood or feeling the Threads of people. The Threadwitch’s powers were slightly confusing since I hadn’t read the previous books, but I was still intrigued to figure out how it all worked. Some of these witches are incredibly rare like the Truthwitch and Bloodwitch, each the only person of their magic.
To save her people, Safi agreed to serve the Empress of Marstok, and now she must test each of the Empress’ people to find the rebels who plot to assassinate the Empress. Safi misses her Threadsister Iseult and is horrified by the punishments the Empress doles out on the liars of her court. Determined to be free, Safi puts her mind to buy her freedom without endangering her people. Safi was an interesting character, with her determined and strong personality and unique magic. Though a glorified slave, she passes witty quips with the Empress, making me chuckle at her bold humour.
Vivia has clearly gone through her own struggles as she attempts to provide and protect her people. If she wasn’t already stressed enough, she must deal with her father takes credit for her deeds and the awkwardness between her and her best friend, Stix. Moving her people into the underground bunker below the city, Vivia explores the expanses of the ancient hidden city while still trying to make diplomatic deals to provide resources for her people.
After the terrible events of the past instalments, where Merik’s best friend Kullen was Cleaved, becoming destroyed by his own magic and transformed into The Fury, a ferocious monster. The Fury pursues Merik and the rest of his crew across the land, determined to capture him, though he longs to kill Merik, killing him would mean The Fury would kill himself. Stuck in a stalemate, Merik can only run while the Fury snaps at his heels. As Merik’s situation becomes hopeless, he is drawn into a position he never expected. I enjoyed learning about the Cleaved and was desperate to see Merik escape his deadly situation, it was one of the most enthralling and exciting points of view in the book.
After chasing Iseult across the entire Witchlands, sworn enemies, Iseult and Aeduan, are forced to work together after the climactic battle of the previous book. Now charged with caring for a young Earthwitch girl called Owl, they travel in hopes of finding the girl’s parents all the while avoiding those who would gladly capture the Threadwitch. Despite the tenuous situation, Iseult and Aeduan are both developing feelings for one another while they struggle not to let their emotions complicate things. Their story and budding relationship were intriguing, from enemies turned allies to perhaps something more. Each was raised within strict organisations, and the reinforced behaviours make it hard for them to connect with each other, for example, Iseult’s tendency to control her emotions and school her features into a blank mask. Even with everything against them, I still hoped Iseult and Aeduan can be together, and I hope to see this in future books.
I loved this world and magic system paired with the diverse and exciting cast of characters. I’d heard this was a good series, but this book went beyond my expectations. The writing was enjoyable while the characters, though numerous and drastically different, were each developed and shown in-depth throughout the novel. I am excited to read the first two books, and I give this third instalment 5/5.
It was very cool to have a chance to see some of this title early. This story follows favorite characters from previous books with some additional perspectives as well. I enjoy this series and will certainly be picking up the rest of the book.
This was a great sneak peak into the newest book in The Witchlands series. It felt like coming home returning to these characters and this world. Now I am really eager to get my hands on a copy of the full book so I can finish what I started. These characters are all so perfect and it felt like this book might be one of my favorites in the series so far! I always loved the story of Aeduan and to get a book that is based around him and his story is perfect. I really like that each book has focused on a different character, hopefully the next book will be Iseult's story !!!
Can't wait to read the rest of the story but as far as I'm concerned this is the perfect beginning, and I'm already hooked!!!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing a preview ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This series has just gotten better and better. I'm honestly really looking forward to finding out more of what happens in the full edition of the third installment of this series. It was a short excerpt but for the fans, it would definitely made them super excited.
