I instantly connected with Quinn and Jonah. I low key cried pretty much through the entire book. I’m a fool for a second chance romance and loved that both characters grew so much from start to finish. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
This was a cute new adult contemporary that was easy to read. Although enjoyable, I didn’t find it gripping and found there were some aspects I didn’t enjoy. I loved the walker family and how they were with each other. I didn’t like Quinn’s mum, but thought that that plot line could have gone further rather than ending the way it did. I found the relationship a bit repetitive with their complications and therefore predictable. I will continue the series, as I did like the story, but just didn’t find it original.
I really liked this amazing heartfelt story of first love and what tore them apart and how they came back together. The relationships throughout this book really hit close to home for me, especially Quinn's relationship with Jonah's family. I just found it really coincidental how they both happened to be back in town at the same time at the start of the book. They both only returned for a short time and they run into each other. And why is it that all MCs come from small towns? Just so reunions like this can happen?
I loved the relationship Reece and Han had, how they were mature enough to realise that they weren't in love anymore, but that they were still best friends and wanted to stay partners. It tore me up when Reece was grieving for her :(
It's just lucky that Jonah actually understood Quinn, as Quinn never actually told him she had anxiety and depression.
I'm one of those people that always wishes MCs would do what Quinn did: not do the audition to stay with their loves. And I'm glad that she hasn't regretted it or anything. I really like her and Jonah, and the Southern manners and formalities are so charming <3
Everyone needs a best friend like Lanie, and all of the relationships in this book were perfect. I love Quinn's relationship with Jamie, with her dad (thank gosh he made it out of the coma!), with Jonah's brothers. I think that's the most heartfelt part, the way that she loves all of them, not just Jonah. They were all a part of her life. And the way she fit into his family growing up. So important.
As You Turn Away is a nice second chance romance by Molli Moran.
From the start, I enjoyed this book, as they didn't let their anger get in the way for too long. Instead of spending half the book hating one another, Jonah and Quinn slowly get back together without the anger being their biggest obstacle.
They do have a way to go to rekindle their relationship though. There's pain, hurt, fear, and confusion in their way. Not only do they have to deal with their painful break-up, they also have to deal with this new version of one another.
It's nothing spectacular, but I did enjoy it.
I started this last month but put it on hold because it was making me a big ball of sad. Now that I picked it back up, I’m glad I finished it. It’s a great second chance story with a side of anxiety and depression. I thought how it was talked about and covered was really well written. I definitely related to Quinn in a big way. I was digging the other Walker brothers so I might be checking out the other books by this author.
Quinlan/Quinn had left Baylor four years ago vowing she would never come home again. Quinn could immerse herself in a role in ballet but other than changing her own oil or a flat tire she wasn’t a mechanic and her rental had smoke coming out from under the hood. Quinn didn’t look forward to facing her antagonistic mother or the memories of the heartache that made her leave town. Than a man offered to help and she recognized Ethan’s voice. Of course the first person she would see would be a walker. She hoped to be more prepared or at least tipsy enough for the encounter not to level her. Ethan paled underneath his tan as he said “ Quinn?” Ethan was her ex boyfriends little brother who wasn’t so young anymore. She was surprised Ethan didn’t just walk away. She had been as much a part of his life as she was his brothers- Jonah- until she had left without an explanation. Quinn had been in love with Ethan's brother Jonah. But she had left and hurt a lot of people ethan included as his oldest brother reese and his parents. Ethan asked why she had come home and Quinn said her contract had run out and her dad wanted her to come home and visit. Quinn was still fragile. Even after four years of her attempts to piece herself back together. Jonah’s name would break her. She couldn’t hear his name or run into him. Than Ethan offered to give her a ride home, on the way they passed Louise’s where she had learned to waitress and dream of a life beyond Baylor. But she had never imagined the boy who taught her how to dream wouldn’t go with her. That they would end in angry words and heartbreak. Jonah had come home, he had been in Atlanta where he had been training to be a physical therapist. Three days after graduation he had sold his car and was on a bus to Baylor- home. Jonah’s father happily greeted him as did his mom. He apologized for how he left and became distant. He stopped answering emails and texts, put off going home. He had called home from time to time but he became a stranger to his family. First he had pulled away on purpose, and later because it was easier. Jonah apologized for the last few years to his mother. How he treated his family wasn’t right Jonah said. But he had left because of Quinn, everyone knew that. He could have went with her- he’d have gone anywhere with her, if he had tried to understand why she needed to leave. Instead he threw away the best thing he ever had. As he looked around his room Quinn was everywhere. Their prom picture was still on his desk. Last he’d heard she was in NYC dancing and probably living her dreams. Without him. Than Reese told him Quinn was back, E seen her and gave her ride home when her rental car had died. Jonah had spent the last two years wondering what he’d do if he saw Quinn again, wishing for a chance to make it right with her. Two days with her mother had Quinn almost at the breaking point. When in the bakery Quinn heard Jonah be greeted . She could have fled, like she got used to doing to escape his name, his memory and the cruel way her mind replayed the feel of his mouth on hers. Than he said” Quinn?” her half healed scars opened spilling out everything she tried to soothe away since she left baylor. Jonah asked if they could sit and she said yeah as she wasn’t sure how much longer her legs would hold her. Jonah said he had never forgotten anything about her including the way she made him feel even though he had tried. Quinn ran out of the bakery but than had a panic attack but Jonah helped her through it. But she couldn’t do this, she couldn't let him in again. Not now or ever, she wouldn’t survive losing him a second time.Nothing Quinn did was right. Quinn texted her best friend/roommate Lanie and told her it was worse than she thought it would be. There was a car accident after a fight with her mother than her mother and father and her mother passed away and her father was in a coma and quinn had broke her leg. Two days ago Quinn woke up with this new reality. Lanie was with her as the hospital had called her as she was listed as Quinn’s emergency contact. Quinn had been in recovery from surgery when Lanie got there. Jonah was working on repairing his relationship with his family. He and reece were staying distant from each other as Reese had told him to stay away fro Quinn . Jonah had seen her at the cemetery and she told him to come and talk and he did. They were working on being friends. Soon Jonha talked quinn into being his girl again. But Quinn still had a lot of problems with anxiety and depression.
I loved this book. It was an amazing read and a new favorite of mine. Not only the romance but the author did a great job or anxiety and depression and her description of what a person goes through and feels- in this case Quinn. It was done in a very realistic way. I love how both Quinn and Jonah had to repair relationships they had damaged. I teared up when Jonah’s family accepted Quinn again. I loved Quinn and Jonak together and how they interacted. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.
As You Turn Away is an emotional whirlwind that will have any romance fan in love with the story and the characters. The pace of the story is fast but the characters themselves is where this story really shines.
A new to me author Molli Moran. A heart-warming story of second chances, coming back home and life changing issues. I look forward to reading more by author.
“I want to feel like me again. I feel like...like I’m standing back and watching all this happen to someone else. I’m not this tired, hopeless girl.”
This book got to me in so many ways. As someone whose been through anxiety for years and years, I know what it was like to feel that lost. But it also gave me a sense of peace because I’m no longer in the place where Quinn is, after going through therapy myself.. I’m in such a better place and this book just made me remember all the horrible nights where I myself thought I was going crazy. This book was healing in the sense that it showed me that I’m in such a better place.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to read more about the Walker brothers.
I absolutely loved this book but it had so much heart ache in it that it made me really sad. I have to say though it took me for every to get through this book! Had some very intense love scenes!
A sweet story about past love rekindled, a perfect girl and a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, a tragedy and the love that can endure in spite, or maybe because of it. Quinn and Jonah were interesting characters, their families provided a good background for them and the plot kept moving. I enjoyed it.
Ooof. This was intense and emotional. This book was super adorable and sweet! I loved the characters.
It’s a great read, a wonderful story and I like that the ending is happy and positive.
Looking forward to reading more from this author
Thanks to Molli Moran for the ARC!
This book surprised me in a really good way. It's one of the best I've ever read about a character who suffers from anxiety. It's a good mixture of family, romance and mental health matters. Even though it explores complicated subjects, I had a good experience reading it.
I've received a ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Forcing yourself to read something is never a good sign. I didn't feel any connection to story nor the characters whatsoever. Felt mediocre and unfortunately this novel just wasn't my cup of tea.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
I forced myself to read the whole thing but after the 3rd day and and 5 chapters into it and countless times of my mind wondering off I skimmed through it in the middle and this don’t have any depth, passion or connection to anyone and the time jumping throw me. I would have loved to get the hPOV at the same setting as H POV, would love to know what the others were saying behind the others back. Way to many emotions for a mean dead women, one funeral and a mention of a second funeral that we didn’t get to read about. I love reuniting old lovers but this story fell flat .
3 stars
I love a good second chance romance story. With this one, I could related with the panic attacks.
That being said. I liked it, but didn't love it.
A second chance romance for Quinn and Jonah. She left town 4 years ago and hasn't been back since, following her dream in New York. But now they are both back in town at the same time, but can she trust him enough to give him a second chance?
Really looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
I am giving this 2.5 stars (instead of 1) based entirely on the anxiety representation. The panic attack faced by the protagonist felt extremely real and was beatifically portrayed; the way her love interest helps soothe her through it felt so loving!
However, I DNF @ 50% because the writing felt so clinical. If felt as though every character had a degree in psychology and was able to talk about their feeling with one another with such precision. The passionate exchange of a relationship felt completely overruled by some need or every character to be by-the-book healthy in their interactions/feelings.
It felt as though the author was trying too hard. Also, the drama concerning the characters and their families made me uncomfortable. The characters go off to college/careers in new areas, away from their families, and the relatives feel as though they've been ultimately betrayed. INSTEAD of understanding people often need to travel and do things for themselves, they feel entitled to have their constant attention, which felt extremely controlling.
So, this book wasn't for me.
