The original description on Net Galley did not mention that this was a religious book. As so many books do, this book falls into the trap of prioritizing proselytizing over storyline, and because of that, the book fails, in my opinion. The illustrations are cute.

Quinn is a nervous owlet who is fearful of getting lost or separated from her father, so he tells offers comfort to her. The subtitle was not listed on NetGalley so I didn’t know that this was a Christian book when I requested it, but the themes and story are relatable so that even non-Christian parents could reframe the story to be about how they will always be there, how children can trust in themselves ("your bravery is big like the mountain," "your heart is open to others like a cave," etc.) The pictures of the little owl, Quinn, and her father were very cute and the story was well-written.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

This book is a beautiful celebration of faith and is a beautiful lesson in trust for children. I think this book about Quinn and her Dad is a beautiful demonstration of how even though we cannot see God he is always there for us and that we just need to trust in that.
The illustrations are adorable and add a lot to the story. I like that the characters are owls and the illustrator has really captured their eyes well.
I would recommend this book without a doubt to library patrons and friends for their children.

This is a beautiful Christian book that allows the reader into a night world that although it is different it is almost like our own. A growing owlet learning to hunt with her dad starts to seek answers about the world around her and what should happen if things change for the worst.

The writing is beautifully done and soothing to the reader. There is a bit of a repetition to relate the owls to the actual story as well as to catch in younger readers whom older readers may want to include in the telling of the story.

I also love the fact that the author chose to use a male parent instead of the constant mother in the picture. It added even more strength and gentleness to the story as he surrendered to the powers of God to teach his little one while at the same time lovingly embracing his little one's persistent questions under such crazy conditions as they kept facing that night.

The illustrations are beautiful and calming while carrying the beautiful message to the reader. The details are what adds a bit of specialness to this particular book.

All in all it is a great book for Christians and one that has a great message for little ones. I would really recommend it as a daddy read but anyone can make this their book

Great story with beautiful illustrations! My kids enjoyed Quinn and her dad's journey. The idea of the rock was such reassuring imagery. Loved reading this book and can't wait for the next one.

This book is about a common concern among small children: getting lost and separated from their parents. How can a parent help his children overcome separation anxiety? This father relies on faith. To help him explain his little girl the abstract concept of good, he uses nature metaphors. God is a steady guide like a mountain and protective like a small cave. He will always be with you, like a small rock, that you keep hidden deep in your wings.
Fly without fear. Fly with faith. You will never be alone because He will always be there. An invisible omnipresent protective father.

The illustrations are amazing! They paint a beautiful world in shades of night blue with glowing stars. The text is frequently placed near the header or footer of the pages, so as not to interfere with the beautiful images.

A good book to help small children understand God and overcome separation anxiety.

A great Christian book to help your little one about times when they may feel anxious or alone. I like that God is discussed and brought into the story to help teach our littles that He is always there. The illustrations are great.

This is a beautifully illustrated book with a lot of great lessons for children. My 10-month-old loves the pictures, and I look forward to reading this to him again when he’s older. Recommended!

Beautiful illustrations grace the pages of this sweet story—one that will bring comfort to small children. It’s sure to become a bedtime favorite.

Little Quinn (an owl) wonders about being separated from her father. They fly together to the top of a mountain. From its heights, they can see their tree home. They get caught in the rain and find shelter in a cave. They fly to the ground and Father Owl picks up a little rock to give to Quinn, the “Promise Rock.” The small rock is a tangible reminder of God’s presences, the God who sees little Quinn wherever she is and who will always be her shelter. Scripture verses in child-friendly language appear at the end of the book. Five stars—and did we say beautiful artwork? A treasure!

Quinn’s Promise Rock is a Christian children’s story written by Christie Thomas, and illustrated by Sydney Hanson.
Summary: This short story follows the journey of a small owl, Quinn, and her father. As they explore the forest, Quinn worries about getting separated from her dad. What would happen if she were to get lost and be all alone? Her wise father has plenty of answers for her, and begins to teach her about trusting and relying on God.
My Thoughts: My favorite part of this book is the illustrations-they are gorgeous! Sydney Hanson did a wonderful job, and this book is a feast for the eyes. I also really liked how the father used the forest to describe God’s love for his little daughter.
I did think that the story could have been tied together a little better, but overall, this is a good book-especially for children that have separation anxiety issues.

What a gorgeous children's book! The illustrations are beautiful and the message is solid.

It's helpful for young kids to have examples like this on their book shelves. They need concrete reasoning for how to handle their fear and this book helps provide some for their little hearts. I love the idea of carrying around a small rock as a reminder that God is always there.

The only reason it didn't get an additional star is because it didn't have quite as much story as I tend to prefer. That which it did communicate was well done.

I received this book for free in exchange for a fair review. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley!

Christians parents and kids will love this sweet story with a message. Just right for little ones and younger grade school kids. I loved the illustrations! Soft and gentle looking owls, but very natural looking. Good comforting story for times of insecurity.

This is an absolutely charming delivery of foundation trust in God.

Quinn is a little owl who is about to experience her first night outing with her father. She has natural childlike fears: What if I get lost? What if I can’t see you? Quinn’s loving father gives her assurances that he will not let her get lost and he will be there. Then her father goes further to assure little Quinn that God will always be there for her.

This is a short children’s book that is direct and charming. It focuses on one message: God, our heavenly father, will always be there for His children. The soft, beautiful illustrations fit perfectly with the gentle prose. I would love to share this with young children to help teach this important basic message!

God is like an immovable rocky mountain, a sheltering cave, and a constant companion (tiny rock). God's regular and trustworthy presence in life is the prime message of this heartfelt tale of a young owl and her father. The illustrations serve the mood and tone of the narrative well. There is always a risk in the way in which God's providence is proclaimed because profound tragedies still visit people of faith. While it is true that God is a shelter, the difficulty comes in determining how God shelters his people from life's storms. In the "Did You Know..." section following the narrative we are told that God provided special wings for owls so that they might sneak up on their prey. God's creative providence doesn't work out very well if you happen to be the prey. But these are big questions for bigger books and aren't necessarily in view for the essential purpose of this children's book.

Loved the illustrations for this. And I really like the relationship between Quinn and her dad.

Nice story about fear and learning to give your fear to God.

This book isn't our families cup of tea due to not being religious but the story is great to help little ones with their fear and anxiety.

Anxiety and fear can rule our little ones heart. And with fear, it becomes impossible to love but love cast out all fear when we receive the love of God.

A father Owl shows his son Quinn how God keeps his promise when we are fearful. While little owl puts his focus on what could go wrong, father owl reminds his son on the promises that God will be there and knows his fears. He reminds his son what God has done and will do.

This can be abstract as a parent as bad things happen but as a parent we can reassure our children of our own love and desire to protect those that we love. Just like the Lord does for us. It is taking our circumstances and emotions and looking at God's perspective. That is a life long lesson for all who follow Jesus and one we want to instill in our children. This book is a great resource for just that.
