Quinn's Promise Rock is a sweet story of a little owl worried about losing sight of her dad while flying. Quinn's dad reassures her that she will never be lost or lose sight because of her faith in God.
I thought this was such a sweet book of how even in the midst of worry, God is always right by our side to help guide us. As long as we keep our eyes on Him.he will take care of us and give us the guidance we need.
This book is a great to read to little ones who deal with separation anxiety.
Aww, that was so sweet! The illustrations were so starry and lovely, and little baby owl Quinn and her daddy were such sweet characters! The theme of God always being with us was so well done and put in simple metaphors for little children to understand. I appreciated the applicable verses included in the back of the book. Overall, a short, sweet, adorably illustrated story to teach your little one about God's presence!
This is a sweet book that tells about how God is always there for us, always is a safe place, and always with us. I love the intentions of this book. I felt like it was a little wordy for a picture book, and my 3 year old had a hard time following along. I also think kids are so literal they will all want to carry a rock at the end! But this book would be good for K-3 to teach them that God is always with them.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC for me in exchange for an honest review.
Quinn's Promise Rock was cute book with subtle reference to separation anxiety and NOT so subtle in its reference to God and Christianity. This book was not for me, but I'm sure other will love it. I really enjoyed illustrations in the book as they are beautifully done!
Quinn a fledging owlet takes flight with daddy one night and expresses to him all the worries she has stored up inside of her.
"What if I get lost?"
"What if you dive and I don't notice?"
"What if you get too far ahead of me and I can't find you?"
She is extremely worried about being separated from her daddy and wise daddy owl takes her concerns and uses them as a perfect teaching moment in her life. He leads her to the top of a large mountain and while there he uses the mountain as a symbol of God... He is rock solid and cannot be moved. A huge storm blows in. Using his wisdom once again he shows Quinn a cave where they can take shelter until it passes. He compares the cozy safe shelter to God ... He is a sanctuary, a refuge in time of trouble. He then passes his fearful little owlet a small stone and asks her to tuck it inside her feathers. He instructs her that the little pebble is a reminder that God is omnipotent. He will be with her no matter where she goes. He will never leave her or forsake her. It will always be a comfort and a reminder that God is with her. Always and forever.
The watercolour illustrations are charming and the positive message of the book is inspiring. I love the deep relationship between daddy owl and his precious little owlet.
The book's mission is to help kids with separation anxiety. The author has included Bible verses at the end that further describes the attributes of God. Just as much as little owl reveres and loves her earthly daddy there is a bigger Daddy ( Father God ) who will be there for her! This story is simple, the message positive and powerful and it is written from a Christian point of view. I highly recommend this book.
This is a Christian picture book about dealing with separation anxiety. It is a beautifully illustrated story with soft, peaceful pictures of an owl father and his son. The prose is also very reassuring. Quinn is worried about getting separated and lost from his father when they go out at night to hunt. His father takes him to the mountain and talks about it always being there, just like God. They get caught in a storm and shelter in a cave and once again Quinn listens to his father tell him about the sheltering arms of God and finally, once on the ground, Quinn receives a small rock to symbolize that God is always with him. This is a great book for children to share with them Christian beliefs about God and that he is with them at the times when they may feel anxious or alone. The back of the book has a Note to Parents about using this story along with some bible verses. This book is not going to be for everyone, but is very sweet. The publisher, Harvest House Publishers, generously provided me with a copy of this book upon my request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
What an amazing children's book! "Quinn's Promise Rock" tells the story of a father owl teaching his child about God's everlasting and unchanging love, comfort, guidance, protection, and omnipresence. The main message in this book is that God is always with us and that He cares for us more than anyone or anything else ever could. The father owl's words in this book are very touching and the illustrations are absolutely stunning! I highly recommend this book for children!
Quinn's Promise tells the story of a frightened young owl with separation anxiety. As she pesters her father with every question that crosses her mind he stops her to tell her not only how he will always be there, but how God will always be there for her too. The book consists of three different metaphors to show how God is like the things around Quinn. This helps to reassure Quinn that she is not alone.
I thought the premise was sweet and the story was cute. It was a little bit too spelled out in my opinion, I thought the author could have been a little subtle with the message. Even though it is a children's book, all ages read children's books and it's important not to underestimate their intelligence. I liked the note at the end where the author suggest giving a child their own small rock to carry around to remind them of God's love and presence.
A very cute book with beautiful illustrations and a great message.
I really like how a rock can help a child to remember three important lessons about God: "God will show you the way you should go, he will be a safe place, and he will always be with you."
This book also makes a wonderful goodnight story, helping the child to focus on God and his promises before going to sleep.
Beautifully written and illustrated! My daughter and I read together before bed an we will do it again. Sweet story of a father teaching his daughter life lessons.
Thank you NetGalley for a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The illustrations were beautiful and I even thought Quinn was a fun name to see in a children's book. The mention of God surprised me since I didn't realize it was a Christian book with a religious message but it flowed well with the parallel of the message between the little owl Quinn and her father. There are a number of parallels the father owl makes to Quinn about God. There is a great "Note to parents" section in the back to help advise on how to present the book to children and how the message can be transposed in to daily life.
This is a beautiful little book but I find it a bit too impersonal. The owl was talking to their kid like a teacher or minister would rather than a father.
Quinn's Promise Rock by Christie Thomas & Sydney Hanson is an adorable, if super-niched, read. Quinn is out flying with her father, when she gets scared of getting separated from him. He takes me to a tall, tall rock and pointed out their home tree. Papa Owl then goes on to compare the cairn to the Christian God, that he is vast, always there, and is always ready to aid or protect you. A sudden storm seems to backup Papa's claim when the two owls seek shelter in a cave on the cairn. After the storm Papa give Quinn a tiny stone to help remind that God was always with Quiinn
This was a cute story with adorable drawings! I read it with my cubs and we all enjoyed it. There are good lessons couched within. I confess, I did almost post as 'not reading’. I didn't realise that's what it was at first, and that it's not a genre I read often. I respect most of Christians’ beliefs, but my family and I are pagan, so we tweaked the readings to fit better with our beliefs. It really is a story worth reading, with lessons regarding faith, confidence, and the nature belief. Highly recommended!! Just go in knowing it is Christian-oriented. Even if that's not your cuppa (like me), it's still enjoyable and able to be tailored as needed to your unique belief system.

Quinn's Promise Rock is a book for youth readers about questioning when might happen if they get lost and being comforted. The book has two owls a father and little girl who are out hunting for dinner when Quinn asks what might happen, her father directs her to look for a mountain and tree to find her way home and then the book turns more religious and is about God always being with you.
To symbolize this, Quinn gets a rock to reminder her that while she can't always see it, it is always there. This was a cute book, but the use of the rock is weird to me. If she wants to see the rock she can, I know that those that are religious might say the same about God but it is a bit far fetched for me.
The illustrations throughout were very pretty and the details were nice. There is even an information page about owls at the end which I found the most amusing of the whole book. So while the religious aspect kind of fell a bit short for my liking, the images and information page gained it a few stars.
As always, this might not be for me, but you and your family may love it. It is all in the eye of the beholder. If you are into religious children's books, this might just be for you.
Blog review post will be live closer to release date.
A relatively sweet little book that's subtle in its reference to separation anxiety and not so subtle in its reference to God and Christianity. Not for me but will be loved by others, I am sure. Beautiful illustrations.
What a beautiful little book! The illustrations in this book are gorgeous, soft and reassuring, like the prose. This is a great book for children about the times when they may feel anxious or alone.
This is a Christian book and so God is discussed in relation to always being with you even when your parents or other caregivers are not.
I found it to be a gentle and reassuring book that my 3 year old grandson enjoyed.
thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Will post to public media upon publication.
A lovely story with beautiful, soft illustrations. This book mentions God quite a bit and although I am not religious I still enjoyed the story and could see the authors point of view.
Soft illustrations, simple words, and reassuring message. Would be a great Christian bedtime story. Each page is beautiful, and the father owl's words to his child are easy for children to understand.
This is a wonderful book that explains to children that God is always with them. I love how Christie Thomas used owls in this story to explain it. The illustrations are beautiful and it holds the child's attention until the end. I will be buying a hardcopy of this book once it is released. Thank you Harvest House Publishers via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
Such an adorable book! Very well written and the illustrations are perfect and keep little ones with short attention spans engaged and interested in the book. I read this with my 4 year old little wiggle worm and she sat through and listened to the whole book. The owls were a plus to use as its not seen in tons of children's books and my daughter thought it was so cool and was able to have a good discussion with her, especially since she has been having some separation anxiety lately. Will be recommending to family and friends to read with their little ones!
