Bring Down the Stars by Emma Scott is a heart-wrenching and unforgettable romance that explores love, loss, and the complexities of following one’s heart. The story follows two characters caught in a tangled web of friendship, love, and secrets, as they navigate their emotions against the backdrop of an intense and emotional journey. Scott’s writing is poignant and beautifully crafted, creating a connection that is both painful and powerful. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that will stay with readers long after the final page.
Bring Down the Stars was such a well written story that I couldn't put it down! The characters and their backstories immediately make them likeable and relatable. The plot was well thought out and engaging from start to finish. I was rooting for the underdog the entire time! Overall, it was a quick read with some strong emotional writing.
The story starts with Weston and his acceptance to a prestigious prep school where he meets his best friend, and for all intents and purposes, his brother, Connor. Their friendship blooms as Connor continuously supports and protects Weston over the years and Weston always returns the favor. They are the literal definition of opposites as Connor is definitely a "golden retriever" boy and Weston is the brooding, emotionally damaged type. Fast forward and the boys end up going to college together where they meet Autumn, the expert in finding the silver linings in life, even after being cheated on by her previous boyfriend. The chemistry between both boys is obvious but in the end, things start to get a little messy. This story is the epitome of a love triangle where none of the characters are aware that the triangle exists. Hence the phrase "confused hearts"! I'm definitely adding Emma Scott to my must read authors!
Thank you to Netgalley and Emma Scott for the ARC!
I requested this several years ago and I don't think it's a book for me anymore. So I will not be reviewing at this time, but if I do read it, I will update this review. Thank you for the opportunity.
Wow! Just wow! I have never read an Emma Scott book before and this will not be my last one. This story is a romance but it is also a story of love, friendship, and soulmates. There is a lot of angst and it kept us guessing. I would like to read more from this author in the future.
BRING DOWN THE STARS broke my heart over and over again. Autumn is from a farm in a small town in Nebraska. Weston is from a broken home in Massachusetts. His best friend is Connor, a rich kid who seems to have it all. BRING DOWN THE STARS opens up with a painful scene for Weston and his family and it stays in the background for Weston for the rest of this heart breaking story. One day in the library, Weston meets Autumn and everything he thought was important is suddenly not such a big deal anymore. Autumn starts dating Connor, thanks to Weston. All he wants to do is spend time with Autumn, but he pushes on with his schooling while he falls for Autumn hard, even though she is with Connor! You are going to fall in love with Weston right away. He is very protective of Autumn and you are going to swoon over him on almost every page. He would love her forever if he had the chance to.
Once again, Emma Scott owes me a box of tissues! BRING DOWN THE STARS shredded my heart over and over again! What an emotional story this is! When I was finished reading I couldn’t get Weston and Connor out of my head and went through half a box of tissues thinking about them! I can honestly tell you this, I am going to read everything that Emma Scott has written and she will be an auto buy for me from now on. BRING DOWN THE STARS had my emotions all over the place and near the end, I was afraid to keep reading. I thought I knew what was coming, knew it was going to shatter my heart and took a four hour break to prepare myself for what was going to wreck me!
BRING DOWN THE STARS is an unforgettable story that will grab you from the very first page. I was crying so much, happy and sad tears, while praying for Connor and Weston as well as Autumn. The emotions and feelings from the characters become your own. While reading I was even holding my breath at some parts and I was afraid to keep going. How much more heartache and grief could Autumn put up with? Emma Scott’s writing has made me a forever fan and I’m sure I will devour everything she has written or has yet to write. Her characters are not perfect, they all come with flaws but that won’t stop you from falling in love with them. I can not wait to read more by this fabulous author and have my heart broken all over again.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Bringing down the stars was on a Kindle device that I no longer have access to.
I had tried finding in my cloud but was not able to locate to read and review. Thank you Netgalley and publishers for chance to read and review.
SPEECHLESS RIGHT NOW. Easily the best contemporary NA I’ve read in a loooong time.
I haven't been able to get into contemporary NA and YA books for a while, but this SUCKED ME IN. Loosely based on the classic Cyrano de Bergerac/Roxanne, it follows college student Autumn as she deals with her dueling feelings for Conner and Weston. I don't want to go too deeply into the plot, because it goes a lot of surprising places and I think readers should go into it not knowing those plot points and just experience the story moment by moment.
This bittersweet book rips your heart out with it's poetry, unrequited love, and top tier angst. Emma Scott is incredibly talented; her writing draws you in and makes you feel ALL THE THINGS.
I've havent read emma scott before but this book was incredible. I cannot wait to read book 2. Absolutely beautiful story.
This story was so beautiful. Connor & Weston’s friendship Is so important and inspiring. You can’t help but love them both. Though I wished they’d handle things differently, I can totally understand the reasoning behind their actions.
I love Weston so much! He’s so swoony with his poetry and thoughtfulness. I love being on this journey with all the characters and rooting for their happiness. The ending made me so emotional and made me swoon at the same time.
Bring Down The Stars is definitely one of my favorite Emma Scott novels. I can’t wait to read the sequel!
Rating 4.5-5 stars!
Wow. Just wow. I have no clue why I waited so long to read this series. The depth of the characters was absolutely beautiful. Weston, Autumn and Connor were amazingly written. The development from character's story to the next flowed throughout the entire book. Weston had, arguably, the most to fight with and for. He was the result of a struggling single mother. Hard-worker, too strict with himself, and loyal to a fault.
Connor was the one with the least amount of worry. Rich, good-looking and charming he had almost everything handed to him. Weston had to work for everything.
But their problems were the exact opposite. Weston's mother had nothing but unconditional love for him whereas Connor was constantly trying to win his parent's love. Autumn was the great equalizer between the two. The way the reacted to her was amazingly written. I loved it.
This book broke my darn heart!!!! I genuinely liked all 3 main characters and the relationships they’d forged with each other. Love triangle books are NOT my cup of tea but this story was so much more than that!
My heart ached for the unrequited love Weston was experiencing and his desire to remain in the shadows as an unworthy companion to anyone. His guarded heart and closed off emotions were the most gut wrenching front for a broken boy.
I wished that Autumn had seen the signs sooner but you couldn’t blame her for being so caught up in the moment, blinded to what was really going on in front of her with Connor.
The ending of this book seemed overly dramatic given that where was going to be another book in the duet. My heart wanted to go one way during the cliffhanger but my mind wanted to go another, knowing that it wasn’t the end. I just hope that some kind of closure or definitive choosing of sides takes place in book 2.
Oh my god, this was beautiful.
I never expected this to be so touching, and sad, and just perfect.
And now I’m broken, and crying, and I need to know how this continues asap!
I can't remember ever reading a book by Emma Scott, but now, I'm obsessed! This story truly packed all the punches with how emotional it was. Usually, love triangles are eh for me, but man, Scott really had me on the fence with this one, in a good way. But obviously, one always wins in my heart and Weston took all the cake with all the toppings. I'm still not over this!
Scott crafted an emotional and angst-filled story, which tackled selflessness (specifically in Weston), friendship and loyalty. That sequel is going to crush me, I just know it.
This book gripped me from the opening pages until the ‘cliff-hanger’ end. Loved all the characters, even though some of them were hard to even like. Would recommend to all who don’t mind shedding a few tears and having to wait for a conclusion. Brilliant Emma Scott
In true Emma Scott fashion, I ADORED this book. Emma Scott may just be my favorite author. Dare I say she has surpassed Colleen Hoover on my favorite author list?!?!! Possibly! My gosh - These slow burn books are the best!! The angst and build up and emotional turmoil and conflict is all so exhausting in the best way possible and so beautifully executed. The cliffhanger ending?! I can’t even! This book was exceptional guys and I can’t wait for book two. If you love New Adult, do yourself a favor and pick up an Emma Scott book. You won’t be sorry!
UGH I hate a cliffhanger! But lucky for me I had the second book to immediately read. I am also not a huge fan of love triangles.
Now with my yuck out of the way, I really enjoyed the story. The writing was beautiful and emotional. The alternating POV's were a good tool to use in this sort of book!
The first word that comes to my mind when I think of this book is ANGST! Best friends who fall for the same girl. One keeps his feeling to himself and actually ends up helping his friend to get the girl even as he falls more and more in love with her himself. Obviously there is a cliffhanger so I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens but on it's own this book just left me hurting for all three characters. I crave a happy ending for all three but I think they will all have to endure heartbreak before they find happiness.
Oh, wow.
I knew I was getting an emotional story but this… Wow. No words.
I am not really a fan of love triangles,in fact, I don’t even know if I ever read one but this author really wrote it well.
Autumn meets two guys. She sees Connor first but Weston is the one who first talks to her. But when Connor tells him he found her cute Weston backs off. I think it’s because he feels like he owes it to Connor after everything he and his family did to him. When Connor starts to pursue Autumn, he feels helpless. Autumn wants romance and Connor… well, he sucks at it. So Weston helps him. Tells him what he needs to say and do.
And so the tangle of lies begins.
I fell in love with Weston. He was wounded in the past and all he wanted was happiness for people around him. For his family, his best friend, the girl he liked. Because he felt Connor could give her what he never could. He was wrong, of course. His vulnerability made him much more likable than Connor.
To be honest, I didn’t particularly like Connor. Okay, yeah, he and his family helped Weston a lot but at the same time, I feel like he didn’t even realise how his actions affected Weston and Autumn. There were times when I didn’t believe Connor kind act, I kept waiting for the ”you owe me because I did this and that for you and your family so back off and do that” bomb. It didn’t happen, thankfully, but still… the actions speak louder than words and Connor’s actions were actions that put him in a better light, he was selfish. Meanwhile, it was Weston’s words that moved me.
Autumn figured it out that something is going on. After all, Connor was completely different in person than he was in letters. But the men put her worries to rest with more lies. I still think she could have figured all out somehow…
Anyway, a very touching story with ah unexpected ending… that continues in the next book so I started it immediately after finishing this one.
5 emotional stars.
I should have known. Okay, that's a lie! I knew. I knew that Emma Scott was going to tear up my heart, hurt my soul, and make me wish for everything. I just didn't know she was going to use poetry, love, and loyalty to do it. Bring Down the Stars is more than a title. It's a promise, a feeling, a need.
When you read the words on these pages, you too will crave that promise. Scott gives her readers a dream; a desire to be loved like only a certain poet can give. Loyalty, desire, and love make an amazing friend wrapped up in Weston Turner. It's a shame he never realizes it. Steel up your heart, harden your reserves because there is no way this next book isn't going to be a fight for EVERYTHING. Stars, breaths, and guilty are going to try and suffocate us. I just need to take deep breaths and hold onto my Hope's and dreams...and love for the Amherst Assh@le.
I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
After Autumn catches her (now ex-)boyfriend cheating on her, the last thing she wants to do is jump into another relationship. She can't help noticing how good Connor looks, though. Connor thinks that dating Autumn would get his parents to think favorably of him, but he has never done a real relationship before. Connor's best friend Wes would do anything for him, and unfortunately for Wes, that means penning the words to help Connor win the girl they both like. Connor tells himself that Autumn is better off not being dragged down by his dark side.
A modern day Cyrano de Bergerac, this book is beautifully written. Autumn's and Wes's feelings jump off the page from start to finish. This book is the first of a duology, and it ends on a big cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the second book and find out how it ends!
