I loved Emily Carpenter’s Honeysuckle Girls novel and I was so stoked to read her next book and I must say I have a new favorite! Fantastic read!!

Emily Carpenter is an auto-buy author for me with The Weight of Lies ranking up there as one of my all-time favorite books, so I was beyond thrilled to read her newest novel, Until the Day I Die as soon as I received an advanced reader copy!! Let's just say that I stayed up to finish it until 4 am because it is so riveting, fast-paced, and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Until the Day I Die starts off as a slow-burn as Carpenter introduces a cast of intriguing and realistic characters, her ingenious and highly intelligent plot and then throws you into a story so swift and breakneck, dark and sinister, twisted and unpredictable that you're breathless throughout the entire three-fourths of the book!

Her newest novel is told through the perspectives of the mother-daughter duo of Erin and Shorie, both recovering from the recent death of their husband/father Perry. Erin's grief is overwhelming as she can barely recover from Perry's death. Erin's not only acting strangely but is overworking as CEO of Jax, the successful tech company she started with Perry and their best friends/partners Sabrine and Ben, a company she now wants to sell since Perry is gone but against her partner's wishes.

Jax is a company that Shorie loves because it was a part of her dad, and she wants to work there instead of heading to Auburn University for her freshman year like her mom wants, so their relationship is strained. When her grandparents, along with Ben and Sabine suggest Erin needs to go to a spa for some rest and "restoration" to help recover from her grief, Shorie is all for sending her mom to an exclusive spa in the Caribbean Island. Erin goes but quickly finds out that the spa experience is not relaxing as promised and wonders who would send her into this chilling nightmare. Soon even Shorie begins to realize something is horribly wrong while she's keeping an eye on Jax and sees error codes appearing that shouldn't be in the system.

Carpenter weaves a menacing web of deception and lies that will have you quickly turning pages trying to figure out each surprising plot twist! The two female protagonists of Erin and Shorie are fantastic, and I loved how Carpenter wrote their relationship as honest and genuine. The short chapters are just perfect to keep the relentless suspense going at the ideal pace. The story is just as atmospheric and enthralling as its gorgeous cover (Carpenter's covers always perfectly evoke images of what's between its pages) and although she departed from her normal southern gothic style of writing with this one to write a more classic type suspense, Carpenter absolutely slayed it with this book!

Carpenter has proven without a doubt that she's a master of suspense no matter what subgenre she chooses to write! Until the Day I Die was a phenomenal read and one that I predict will be a huge hit in 2019! It comes out March 12, 2019, so make sure you grab a copy!!

**Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC to read in exchange for my fair and honest review. **

Wow! Just Wow!
*Alert*- Remember to breathe as you read "Until the Day I Die"!
This is an intense, suspenseful, psychological novel that will have you wondering how is this book going to end!
The story is told by Erin and her daughter Shorie.
Erin is a founder at her app company and still reeling from her husband's sudden, unexpected death.
Shorie is a freshman at college. Shorie believes college is a waste for her and wants to help with the business, and to stay home and help her mom. She misses her dad.
This mother/daughter team is strong, determined and brilliant as they solve who is embezzling money from their company and how!
It is certainly a dangerous and wild ride!
This book had me actually holding my breath at times while I was racing through the pages!

I liked this book a lot, but did not love it. Started off a bit slow and the first half of the book was all over the place but the second half was really good and overall it was saved with a twist at the end. Definetely glad I read it but I did not enjoy it as much as previous books.

Wow what a book! I started it right before bedtime thinking I would read just a little bit and go to bed. Haha that didn't happen until I read the very last page! There were so many twists and turns that each time I thought I figured it out, I realized I was completely wrong. Erin's life is thrown into a tailspin when her husband dies. She throws herself into work. Her relationship with her daughter Shorie suffers because both aren't dealing well with their grief. Erin is sent away to a rehab to work on herself and get herself back to normal. Erin and Shorie are thrown into a very scary world of secrets and lies and you have to read quickly to find out what happens! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it kept me on the edge of my seat with all the dangers and lies. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing. All opinions are my own.

While it took a few chapters to get into this book, once it started moving, I could not put it down. The dual narrative, Erin and her daughter Shorie, was what initially drew me in. The mother-daughter dynamic post the loss of their husband and father was very well written and developed.

The story features the company (Jax) Erin and Ben created along with their friends Ben and Sabine as a primary character. It delves into coding and app development, but for me, this was fascinating and I loved reading about strong female characters interested and succeeding in STEM.

The twists and turns in this thrilling book had me guessing and pointing fingers at someone new every other page. Just when you think you have it figured out, the author throws the switch and a new possibility unfolds.

I devoured this book in about three sittings and I was on edge for at least two-thirds of the book.

I was given an advanced copy to read for an honest review.
This book was rather interesting to me since I work in IT. The part of the story around the startup company that created an app was very fascinating. When you add in a clever girl heading off to college not long after her fathers death, and her mother, the company CEO, facing an intervention due to her overwhelming grief, you have a mess that needs to be addressed.

Shorie is her fathers daughter and is determined to watch over the company while at college, since her mom is getting the help she needs.

The story has many twists and turns and you find yourself trying to find out who is causing problems at the company.

I really enjoyed the characters. The strength and determination for both mother and daughter to be there for each other warms your heart.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an ARC of Emily's latest thriller. Once again, she's delivered a page turner! If a suspenseful murder-is-just-around-the-corner story can be considered both scary and fun, then this one certainly is! I enjoyed it thoroughly!

the book started slow for me but picked up halfway through. I loved the original storyline even if the twists seemed a tad unrealistic and far reaching. The characters fell a little flat for me as I was not at all connected to any of them. The location pulled me in and made me long for a tropical island in January, but again the description wasn’t enough to make me feel like I was there. I was hoping for a bit more from this book that it didn’t quite deliver.

Gorgeous cover. I was hooked from page one and did not want to stop turning those pages. The writing was good, the book flowed well and I enjoyed both Erin's and Shorie's point-of-view. Interesting concept with the idea and creation and running their own business as well as being sent to what's supposed to be a relaxing island getaway that turned into a complete nightmare. But who would send Erin away?! I couldn't wait to find out. I found there were a lot of conveniences toward the end, but overall this was a fun read for me.

Hang on to your hats, folks, because this book is a bumpy, twisty, hair-raising ride! This riveting book features two of the smartest, shrewdest characters...a mother and daughter still reeling from the death of their husband and father who find themselves caught up in a sinister world of deception, conspiracy and peril. The story is told from the points of view of both the mother, Erin, and her daughter, Shorie, and their stories form an intricate web of danger and treachery that kept me on the edge of my seat until the chilling end. The mother/daughter relationship was raw and honest, adding another layer to this already-fascinating story. I need to mention the cover of this book, because it evokes an atmosphere that suits this story to a T. This book literally took my breath away...I don’t think I breathed the entire time I was reading!

As much intricate plot, dangerous suspense, and edge-of-seat chills as you could imagine. Admittedly I felt a little stuck at the beginning, plunged into the plot the way you are. It all seemed a little too hazy to figure out what was going on and it didn't feel I was given enough information about the main characters to determine if I even cared. But having ploughed through, I was rewarded soon enough. And between the back and forth of both Erin and her daughter Shorie's riveting versions of what was going down in their family and newly successful business app Jax, I was glued to the pages til the end.

Because as their story unfolds it becomes evident what a uniquely talented and deeply loving family Erin, her love-of-life husband Perry and their beautiful, bright and accomplished daughter Shorie, really are beneath their severely-damaged surface.

Definitely recommend, easily movie material. Unpredictable, very relevant with its cyber security issues and fully equipped with an exotic island for your winter getaway reading pleasure! Although you won't feel like you are relaxing lazily on a sunny beach. You'll be on the edge of your beach lounger, probably dropping your mi-tia into the sand a time or two.

This was a quick read but not one of my favorites. I appreciate what the author was trying to do but this one didn't work for me. I thought it was fairly obvious early on what was going on and it reminded me of a Lifetime Movie of the Week. Maybe I am just not the right reader for this one.

I absolutely loved everything about it this book! This is the first book I have read by Emily Carpenter and to say it did not disappoint would be an understatement. A cross between a thriller and Womens fiction, it kept me reading late until the night. Just when I thought I knew what was happening, it went in a different direction. I can't wait to read more by her!

A fun, fast paced suspense. I have enjoyed Carpenter's other books. This shares good characters and flow but is more traditional suspense. Interesting plot and good twists and turns.

Aha, I knew there was a reason I was avoiding this publisher, thinking they specialize in women’s fiction. They do, they really do. Going by this title, it might even be veering off toward chick lit. But yeah, I was in a mood for a thriller and this was available and somehow adorned in glowing reviews, but…here comes the but and it’s a sizeable one…it’s all so freaking trite. Granted the proliferation of the women authored women driven thrillers, like any proliferation, sort of invites a certain lowering of standards and a certain sort of formulaic writing, but there are still tiers. This is more toward the lower tiers. A multimillion dollar app company, a woman left in charge after her spouse dies, everyone around her is financially connected to this and is against selling it while she wants to do it. And just like that after a brief intervention she’s off to a super fancy resort for some R &R, which may turn out far less enjoyable then the brochures advertise. And now only her daughter, the teen whiz, can save the day. So yeah… The plot is substandard, you pretty much figure out what’s going on from the get go and the rest of the time is just the matter of naming the doers and playing out the action. The main characters, mother and daughter (an all too typical 18 year old nuisance with a love story all of her own, his kisses tasted like poetry…seriously) both, leave a lot to be desired development wise, in fact everyone in this book is some sort of a two dimensional cliché. The final reveal is laughably melodramatic. This is somewhere along a Lifetime movie of the week. The author checks all the boxes with the spit narrative and suspense and ending twist, but it’s all so unoriginal, expected and forgettable, that it really isn’t worth the time considering all the other, far superior thrillers out there. Mindless lite entertainment, but too much of the former and not enough of the latter. For less discriminating tastes and lower standards, otherwise pass. Thanks Netgalley.

I know this book received alot of good reviews but I think it was one of the most strange and ridiculous book I have ever read. The characters were not very engaging, it had too much “tech” terms in it, it was a slow read and the whole storyline wasn’t plausible. Sorry to say I would not recommend this book.

Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #UntiltheDayIdie

Emily Carpenter delivers another gripping novel in “Until the Day I Die”. One of the best aspects of Carpenter’s writing in this narrative is her set up and execution of the plot turner. She widely develops each and every character making the reader blissfully unaware of the true antagonist. The story line is emotionally charged with love, loss, and deceit as we catch a glimpse of the chaos surrounding one woman’s grief and the secrets hidden by those around her. A truly remarkable novel, 5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and Emily Carpenter for an advance copy of the novel Until I Die.
I enjoyed the book. It was a tad slow in spots but was wrapped up pretty well.
Description by the writer :
If there’s a healthy way to grieve, Erin Gaines hasn’t found it. After her husband’s sudden death, the runaway success of the tech company they built with their best friends has become overwhelming. Her nerves are frayed, she’s disengaged, and her frustrated daughter, Shorie, is pulling away from her. Maybe Erin’s friends and family are right. Maybe a few weeks at a spa resort in the Caribbean islands is just what she needs to hit the reset button…

Shorie is not only worried about her mother’s mental state but also for the future of her parents’ company. Especially when she begins to suspect that not all of Erin’s colleagues can be trusted. It seems someone is spinning an intricate web of deception—the foundation for a conspiracy that is putting everything, and everyone she loves, at risk. And she may be the only one who can stop it.

Now, thousands of miles away in a remote, and oftentimes menacing, tropical jungle, Erin is beginning to have similar fears. Things at the resort aren’t exactly how the brochure described, and unless she’s losing her mind, Erin’s pretty sure she wasn’t sent there to recover—she was sent to disappear.

I did not connect with Shorie as much as Erin. Erin's grief rang true and I enjoyed the book and rooted for Erin.

Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having never read any of Emily Carpenter’s previous work, I started this novel not knowing what to expect. I was intrigued by the title and the cover, though now that I have finished the book, I don’t feel like the title fits the book all that well. This was a quick read, but I didn’t really connect to any of the characters, and the “twists” weren’t all that surprising. Every character seemed shallow and one-sided, and everything fell conveniently into place at just the right moment. I prefer my books to have a bit more character development and to require a bit more thought.
