This was a super fast paced, thrilling and gripping read! Loved the twists that were thrown in my face and even though it was bit predictable at times it didn’t stop me from running through the pages! Friends, it has everything you always ask for in a good thriller! I’ll give 4.5 solid stars! Now, excuse me while I go read the other two Emily Carpenter novels I haven’t read ASAP!

The story follows Erin, one of four people to found a hyper-popular budgeting and payment app (think Venmo + Mint), and her daughter Shorie. Erin is falling apart after the recent death of her husband and co-founder. But as time goes on it seems like the people around her might be blowing her trouble out of proportion - and trying to get her out of the picture.

This book was slow to get rolling but by the halfway point I was quite engrossed! However, I felt like the book spent more time explaining the app these people invented than the people themselves. Yes, the app is critical to the story, but I never felt like I knew the players that well, especially the ones involved in the twist.

There were elements in the book which were difficult to follow, difficult to fathom and also difficult to accept. It did not mean the book was bad, it may be that I could not understand what the author was trying to say.

I liked the stories set in separate chapters - Erin and Shorie's stories particularly. Shorie seemed a particularly well balanced young woman who knew what she wanted. It was just not a college education. I felt for her as she had very good views of her own, she knew what she felt was right but she got conflicting advice from several sides so was a bit thrown. Erin as her mother felt (like most mothers would feel) that a university education was a must and this was the initial conflict.

Starting with Perry's death and the initial sense of grief and loss which continues throughout the story and then segues into a very complicated dark area where we really do not know who are the good guys and who are the bad ones. You suspect every character that gets thrown into the mix from this point on.

The incarceration of Erin depicted in the form of a "rehabilitating spa retreat" is a bit fantastical. From the very beginning it did not seem right, and there were a lot of things that were not in balance and off.

A bit unsettling!

This is the second book that i have read by Emily Carpenter, the first being 'The Weight of Lies'. This was another enjoyable read and if anything, i enjoyed this book a little more. Emily Carpenter is fast becoming an author's name that i shall be on the watch out for and hope it's not too long before i am reading another of her books. I never write what a story is about as i prefer one to read the story for themselves, but i do recommend.

Emily Carpenter has been consistently turning out well paced, interesting suspense/mystery books over the last few years, and Until the Day I Die was, as expected, really good. It's told by both daughter Shorie, who is unwillingly heading off to college a few months after the death of her father when she'd rather be staying home and going straight to work on the app that her parents and their best friends have built into a successful business over the last few years, and by her mother, Erin, who is still reeling from her husband's death, and starting to feel that the best solution is to sell the business. When friends and family stage an intervention for Erin after an incident on Shorie's first night at college, she agrees to a retreat/rehab on an isolated island. Soon after she leaves, both she and Shorie start to realize that no one and nothing in their lives might be what it seems.
Shorie and her side of the story are interesting enough, but the really compelling and fascinating parts are told from Erin's perspective. As things progress on the island, the pieces that crash together are one blow after another, and the culmination of events was heart-pounding. I'd say this will be a great "beach read" type book, but you might not really want to be on a beach with this one, especially not alone!

This thriller is filled with twists that you don't see coming, especially in the end. It hooks you from the beginning. Definitely a book that will keep you up at night so you can finish it. Giving it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟! The only thing that I would say was the ending was a bit confusing other than that it was good. Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest review.

I loved everything about Until the Day I Die from the gorgeous cover to the twisted page turning story inside! I thought I had the ending all figured out but I didn’t see it coming!

Hold onto your seat and don't forget to breathe!

Five months ago, Erin Gaines lost her husband, Perry, and Shorie, her father in a tragic car accident. Perry, Erin, and their longtime friends Ben and Sabine Fleming were partners in a successful tech company that they created an app for a comprehensive personal budgeting app. But since that horrible day, things have gone downhill.

Erin is constantly working and the tension with her daughter is palpable. Shorie does not want to start college but wants to work full time at the company but Erin forbids it thinking that is what is best. But then, Erin isn't her usual self and her family and friends feel that somethinging is drastically wrong with her especially since she is talking about selling the company. Her family and friends have an intervention due to her erratic behavior, including having blackouts, and suggest that she go to an exclusive rehab facility in the Caribbean so she can heal. She agrees but soon realizes something is wrong. Very wrong!

The story moved along holding my interest and then about halfway through the book, it went from 0 to 100 in a second and didn't let up until the very last word.

Over the past year, I have been addicted to psychological thrillers and this book will definitely be on the top of my list. The intricate details that bring this story to a chilling close will have the reader picking their jaw up off the floor. At least it was the case for me.

This is the first book I have read by this author but I am already on the search for her other books.

I highly recommend it, but will give fair warning, once you pick it up be prepared to not being able to put it down!!

This book was engaging & entertaining at first but lost my interest at about 30%. I felt like I was forcing myself to continue. I liked the characters & the writing style but just couldn’t continue.

I liked it, didn't love it.
I found the story to be slow, confusing at times with the different POVs, and it was hard to get into it. I love books where the story, the action or drama, starts on page one. The second half was better.

I really loved the summary and was disappointed when I finished the book. But it is well written and the story is interesting. A good suspense/mystery with likable characters.

I absolutely love everything that Emily Carpenter writes and this is one of the best! It is full of suspense and delicious twists that keep you on the thrilling edge! You don't want to miss this atmospheric modern day gothic read!

I am always a little wary about these atmospheric thrillers because sometimes they use the most random possibilities just to startle you into liking the book. This tale comes perilously close to doing that but I still enjoyed the experience. 

We have a mother daughter duo whose thoughts we have access to. They are both mourning the loss of the man of the house, and the glue that held them together. One is devolving into an incoherent and overworked mess (Erin,the mother) and the daughter is being forced to go to college instead of working on the company that her parents and another couple founded. Erin gets sent away to an island in the caribbean to rest and reinvigorate while Shorie is not happy to be in college. Then things get murky and the more either of them dig from their own direction, they find something even stranger beneath. It remains to be seen if one can rescue the other before everything ends. 

The epilogue could have been slightly less vague because I was not sure how to feel considering Erin's last conversation with Ben. .It is atmospheric and fast paced (for the most part) and I think I would have enjoyed this more as an audiobook just for all the suspicious moments and when I could not see the next line to know what followed.I recommend it for fans of this genre and one of the main reasons I liked it as much as I did was because it did not let me accurately guess the culprit.

As soon as I saw that gorgeous book cover, I knew I had to read this book.

I thought for sure I'd read Emily Carpenter before...her name was so familiar. I haven't. I do have two more of her books in my Kindle library, The Weight of Lies and Every Single Secret, but as of this moment, they're unread. (Not that it's surprising...I have over 600 unread books on my Kindle. Do I have a problem? Why yes, yes I do.)

Unfortunately, this slow-burning suspense never really got off the ground. While the story was vaguely interesting, it was so highly implausible, I had a hard time settling in and truly enjoying what was happening. I hate to use this comparison, but Until the Day I Die would likely make a great Lifetime movie. There was certainly enough melodrama.

The characters, with the exception of Erin and Shorie, weren't fleshed out AT ALL. In fact, when the big "twist" was revealed in the epilogue, I genuinely had to think about who that particular antagonist even was. I genuinely couldn't remember.

I'd recommend this book to fans of Emily Carpenter or newbie suspense readers.

Until The Day I Die was the second book by Emil Carpenter that I have read and the second one that I have loved. I read it very quickly, totally hooked on the story and wanting to know how it was all going to end. Sure all the warning signs were there that things were going to go horribly wrong - bring it on!!

Erin and Shorie Gaines are in morning. Perry was killed in a car accident, changing their world forever. Shorie, his daughter misses him terribly. They were like 2 peas in a pod and she got her love of computers and programming. They worked together on the app and program they all created. Erin, his wife is feeling overwhelmed by everything and decides she wants to sell the business. Their family and friends decide that Erin needs a break and send her to the Caribbean for a spa resort recovery. Only when she arrives nothing is how it seems and starts to fear for her life. Meanwhile Shorie discovers that all is not well with the business and that somebody is stealing money from other members of the app. Does any of this have anything to do with Perry's death?

A very interesting book. I think if your more computer literate than I may you would definitely enjoy this book. A story of embezzlement that goes beyond anything you can think up in your head. The twists and turns are never ending and will keep you turning the pages. You must be sure to read the epilogue where you will still find surprises

Until the Day I Die is very fast paced and exciting. I finished it in a couple days and was surprised by many of the twists and turns. I was pleasantly surprised by how unique this is from Carpenter’s other books as well. You definitely don’t need to know about tech to enjoy this. I highly recommend it!

I’ve read three of Carpenter’s books now and I’m so impressed by how vastly different each of her books are. There’s nothing formulaic about her books, she doesn’t regurgitate the same old tired storylines, instead she comes up with these unusual premises that end up being wildly entertaining.

This flips back and forth between Erin and her daughter Shorie and I adore multiple perspectives. While I liked and felt for Erin I was really enamored with Shorie and I think it’s because Carpenter captured the voice of a young woman so well. She felt genuine and believable and I kept thinking this one would even appeal to the YA crowd. This starts off on the slower side but then at the halfway point things get kicked into high gear and it was a nonstop race to the finish for me. Despite some slightly implausible moments I really enjoyed this one.

I’ve talked a lot before about how having the right expectations for certain books can really help and this is one where I feel like I should say this is exactly that sort of book. Is it a thriller? Yes, but it’s a slower burn with increasing tension as it progresses. Is it a mystery? Yes again, but parts are predictable for seasoned thriller readers so keep that in mind. Is it dark and menacing? Yes, but not in the usual way, there’s definitely danger but the menace is done in an over the top and dramatic fashion that certainly won’t be for everyone. Is it entertaining? Absolutely but the same kind of entertainment that I get when I watch a Lifetime movie, there’s definitely some moments where you have to suspend disbelief, some things are pretty far fetched. All of that to say that I enjoyed this one immensely and I hope by telling you what sort of book this truly is I’ll ensure you pick this one up with the right mindset.

Until the Day I Die is a mother/ daughter adventure that keeps you hooked on each chapter. Erin's husband Perry had mysteriously died leaving her and their daughter Shorie lost and fractured. Circumstances push them together. I like Shorie's new friendships with college friends and budding romance with Rhys. Because someone in her parents' company Jax is embezzling money, neither Erin nor Shorie know who to trust. Carpenter throws a red herring our way. I was definitely shocked. It definitely makes you wary of these pricy fancy rehabs. Even if there is a damsel in distress it wasn't a trope because of who saved her, and in part saved herself. The ending was a nice twist. Definitely pick up this book! You'll want to be in the Caribbean at a much safer resort.

Loved the book!! The lengths some people go to for money is scary. I now know if someone wants to send me away for some restoration, the answer is NO!!! I loved how the book alternated between Erin and Shorie. I was surprised how Erin's friends and family were treating her after the loss of her husband. How was Erin suppose to act? She just lost the love of her life and the father of her child. Then I realized they are acting perfectly normal for people with ulterior motives. Hidden Sands is definitely a resort I never want to visit. You have to wonder about family members who send their loved ones there. My guess is that person hates you.

I loved the characters, story and writing style. Rhys was still a bit of a mystery for me and a bit creepy. There was something about him I didn't really trust. His job at the school was just wrong. I would expect when the school found out, everyone involved would be in huge amounts of trouble. I was completely surprised when Shorie was on the plane and finally discovered who was involved in this crazy mess. I would have never guessed. The book was full of twists and and kept me guessing what was going to happen until the very end. Shorie and Erin were definitely my favorite characters. Both were strong and brave and also they were the only ones I trusted throughout the book. Shorie was one smart cookie and loved what she did at the end.

Definitely recommend the book. I loved all of the author's previous books and can't wait to read the next one.

Erin and her daughter Shorie are both grieving the untimely death of their husband and father. Erin's in a particularly difficult position as she has to cope not only with that but also with problems in his company- and those who work there. They convince her to take time and head for a resort in the Caribbean. But not all is what it seems, is it? Told from Erin and Shorie's viewpoints, this is more than a little predictable but the plot was saved, for me at least, by Shorie, who is terrific. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a fast read.
