What a delight of a book!
Such a great collection of information on painting breathtaking country scenes in acrylic painting.
With step by step instructions that are very easy to follow.

This art manual provides great information for the artist on producing beautiful country scenes. The artwork presented is wonderful and enticing. While the author does provide great instructions and definitions for the art terms used throughout the manual, I believe this would be for a student at the intermediate level and up. However, a not too recent beginner may want to try it out also.

Jerry is a great art teacher. This book covers some of the basics like color mixing and perspective, but the fun really begins when he shows his step by step painting technique. I love his style of painting country scenes, which makes the book really fun to read..

The beginning of the book starts as most instructional painting books detailing the supplies needed. Jerry’s book was different from others I have read because he gave some suggestions on supplies I had not yet seen and he went into more detail on organizing your studio and your painting resources. He also did an excellent job explaining some of the painting techniques he would use throughout the book.

I loved his format of showing each piece of art he would paint, detailing the colors he would use and showing the painting with each additional step added. His landscape paintings were very advanced and above my level. The majority of his paintings included buildings which are not my preference.

Overall this was an informative painting book that I would recommend to a friend. I think beginners and advanced painters would find helpful information in this book. I plan to look into more book by Jerry Yarnell and check out his online tutorials.

I could give five stars to Jerry Yarnell's books without even opening them. I know him from artistsnetwork.com, his lessons are very well done, very meticolous, practical, Also he transmits his passion to the viewer/reader and accompanies them through the process. He has a solution for every problem in acrylic painting you can think of. This book too, is well organized and illustrated, after the presentation of the materials and tecniques there are lessons of country scenes in the various seasons. I can't tell that I like all his paintings, some are too much idealized for my taste (without arriving to the kitch of Thomas Kinkade or Bob Ross), but he surely is a very talented artist and an excellent teacher, you are in good hands with him.

Really loved this book, the artwork is brilliant with bright vibrant colours.
The techniques are in depth and detailed, with excellent colour mixing guides.
The techniques taught are advanced and helpful.
How Jerry has covered focal area,light source, good use of negative space, eye stopper,overlapping objects, cast shadows, and fillers it such an brilliant lesson , he is an excellent and thorough teacher.

"Country Scenes in Acrylic" is an art instruction book on using acrylic paints to create country landscapes that include buildings. This is a good book for beginners, though perhaps not complete beginners since he didn't include much advice specific to acrylics. His focus was more on painting techniques. He started by describing the specific tools and materials that he recommended and which you will need to complete the demonstration paintings. He defined some painting terms, described various techniques, talked about color, and provided formulas for mixing common colors that will be used in the demonstrations.

He provided step-by-step instructions for 8 country scene paintings that showed how to create buildings (barns, cottages, etc.), fences, flowers, rivers, trees, etc. The instructions and illustrations were clear and easy to follow. Each painting had some new challenges, but the basics of how to achieve each effect was described so it can be achieved with practice. Overall, I'd recommend this book to acrylic painters interested in learning his style of painting landscapes.

There is a lot of great information in this book. It explains different types of brushes and how to use them and where to buy them as well as descriptions of them and how to care for them. There is also a lot of information about colors and acrylic paints with many tips. There is a section about terms and descriptions of them as well as images to show what they are. It is all easy to understand and very helpful and I can't even list all of the topics covered as there are so many. There are instructions for each scene with step-by-step images to help the painter see what they should be doing. The scenes are beautiful and I think this book will help many people take their painting to the next level or help someone start painting beautiful scenes.

All the guesswork taken out, the author presented everything needed to complete a scene painted in acrylic. To my delight, there weren't too many items needed to get rolling, only the ones needed to complete the paintings in the book. That's a big saver, especially, when considering student-grade materials. It's nice being offered options. With special attention given to distance and depth, the principles of landscape painting were carefully explained. Most importantly, from sketching the composition to adding the finishing touches, everything is clearly Illustrated - scene-by-scene. The author's paintings were of the quality and talent I'd expect to see in a museum or gallery. Learn from the best.

This is a handy painting book for beginners and more advanced painters alike. My young son enjoys painting landscapes. I have very little painting experience so I liked the tips on tools, canvases and the explanation of the various techniques used. l also appreciated the inclusion of the list of brushes necessary to create all the landscapes in the beginning of the book. I found this book extremely helpful as a novice. Several of the paintings are for a more experienced artist, so I appreciate the fact that the author created a book we can “grow” with and use for years to come. This will be one of our go-to painting guides.

PROS
This is a really useful book for people interested in acrylic painting that want to take canvas painting to the next level. Despite tips being mainly for acrylic painting on a canvas, several can be used for drawing in general. Also, we learn the best methods to keep our equipment in good shape for a longer time.

CONS
This is a very specific book and, if you are a beginner, it won’t help you to draw better on the canvas. The book also is very objective, so there are times that the author skips basic explanations between steps.

COVER ANALYSIS
I find this cover very simple and soothing somehow. It seems like those pretty books an decorator would put on a coffee table or something, so I’m love!
