This short tale for children is both adorable and inspiring. A dog who wants to fly, to catch squirrels or balloons or kites, can't, because dogs don't fly. But when friend cat is in trouble in a tree, then yes, this dog can fly, to the rescue!

This book is cute, cute, cute. I love the pictures and the story. So fun.
Zora the dog wants to fly so she can finally catch that pesky squirrel - but nothing she does works! This book is hilarious and has adorable illustrations. It has the lesson of continuing to try even when things may seem impossible, but it also just plain makes for a great, funny story time about a goofy dog who will do anything for what she loves.
NOTE: I received an ARC copy of this book on NetGalley. I received no incentive to read or review this book other than said copy of work. The review below contains my own thoughts and opinions. Special thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the free copy. (less)
As much as I love picture books about dogs, this one was not memorable and the art seemed incongruent with the storytelling style.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed reading this. An interesting story with fun characters. Well written.
This book is adorable. After flipping through, I immediately knew I wanted to adopt the book for my classroom. I showed my students this book on my class iPad. No surprise, they loved it! The kids said it reminded them of the comic books called, "Dogman". Overall, The Dog Who Wanted to Fly has a sweet storyline. AND this book is easy for the kids to follow.
This book was too adorable not to share with my students as soon as it was published! Who doesn't want to fly?!
Zora and Tully are friendly and instantly likable. Zora's quest to fly is born from her desire to catch a foe. The book chronicles her attempts at learning to fly in an endearing and relatable way. What child hasn't thought if they jumped high enough, ran fast enough, they too could fly!?
Zora and Tully are a pair that every child should enjoy. Whether it be cuddled up for a bed time story, or sitting in story time at school or the library, Zora's story will delight!
This book is an instant 5 star classic!
The desire for flight is something many of us can relate to. Still, the idea of a flying dog is inherently funny. THe dog's efforts are surprisingly logical, the sorts of attempts made by any number of children in cartoons. His near flight at the books' climax is triumphant and just silly enough.
I'm not really sure how to review this book, since I think there was something wrong with my review copy. The words didn't match the illustrations, and for most of the book I thought Tully was the squirrel instead of the cat. It makes sense now that I've read it (and reading the synopsis beforehand would have helped, too), but I was very confused for awhile. After re-reading the story with my new knowledge, it read a little better, but the formatting was still slightly off.
Despite the technical difficulties, I did enjoy reading this one. Zora desperately wants to fly, and she tries everything she can think of to get off the ground. She asks questions and makes observations that a child would make, and that could lead to some interesting conversations. (The confusing layout meant I wasn't able to read this one with the kids, because I had to keep flipping around to match the words with their illustrations.)
Speaking of the illustrations, they were wonderful! I think they really complimented the story. However, I do not think this is a book I'll be reading again in the future, although I would be interested in seeing how a finished copy compared to my review copy. It has a good message about not giving up, but I felt like there was something missing from the overall story.
The Dog Who Wanted To Fly' by Kathy Stinson with illustrations by Brandon James Scott is about a dog with aspirations of flight.
Zora the dog wants to catch a squirrel, but in order to do that, Zora will need to learn to fly. As hard as Zora tries, she can't, and skeptical cat Tully is there to see her failures. It seems that Zora will never fly until one day she gets the right motivation. The squirrel should be scared now.
I love this story of not giving up, even when some cynic is telling you that you can't. I love the really cute illustrations in this book too. I think younger readers will get a kick out of it.

The story is clever and a perfect length to hold a young child's attention. I enjoyed watching Zora think of ideas and try to execute learning to fly so she could catch the squirrel. More importantly, it also taught a lesson that you should always keep trying and if you don't reach the goal you first set out to achieve, you can still do something good with hard work and perseverance. The illustrations are wonderful.
Very cute book, love the artwork. Liked the overall theme and story, felt it could have used with one or two more pages to sum it up and finish. Some of the text felt disjointed and didnt flow well. Zora is a very lovable character, I can see a series with her being very popular. Overall a cute children's book, my two (ages 2 and 4) liked it and thought the pictures were what really told the story.

A funny and uplifting book. Zora wants to fly so she can catch that pesky squirrel that sits on the fence. My dogs can definitely relate! They are constantly trying to catch squirrels in my back yard too. This book teaches perseverance and believing in yourself. It also encourages helping one another and friendship. The perfect book for kids that teaches never giving up and helping one another.
The artwork in this book is fantastic! I believe kids would love this book about a dog who desperately wants to fly. It's silly, cute, and something I would read to the kids during storytime.
What a cute story! I loved its positive message about trying your hardest, even when the odds are against you! The illustrations are full of life and character. As a mom to a fur baby, I loved Zora and her never-ending desire to catch that squirrel! My dog, Thor, can relate. I also appreciated the subtle yet important messaging about friendship.
The Dog Who Wanted to Fly is a beautifully written book about not giving up on your dreams. Zora the dog wants to fly and doesn't give up, even when she stumbles and falls. Finally, she finds the right motivation and her dreams become a reality. This was a gorgeously illustrated children's book that my kids loved looking at and reading together.
The pictures are engaging and captivating and truly capture the movement ( or sometimes lack thereof, of Zora). The message is wonderful and is the text is very fun to read aloud. This is definitely one we will be adding to our home library. Thank you to NetGalley and Annick Press for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Sweet little book about an "underdog" who achieves success. Kids will love this sweet book.
Fun picture book for the 2 to 7 year old dog lover. The cheerful and detailed artwork adds action and movement to the text and provides more conversation-starting material for teachers and care-givers. Solid purchase for libraries.
This was a really cute premise for a picture book. The illustration did a really good job- they were very active and I liked the movement in them. The text started a bit abruptly and was a little choppy in places. I would have liked something at the end about going after the squirrel. Overall an enjoyable read that kids will love.
This wasn't anything exceptional, but it was very cute and the last panel made me laugh a little. I could definitely see grabbing a copy of this one to make the kids at my branch laugh, too.
