A great reference. I've always been interested in calligraphy, and my daughter is learning cursive and I know she'll love this too. I think this would be great as a print book, so I may try to find it for her for a present. Thanks

I really enjoying looking at progression of traditional calligraphy to modern. The step by step photos are super helpful! I loved the various flourishing and styling techniques offered.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

This is a wonderful book if you are interested in either hand lettering and/or calligraphy! Although it is short, I really enjoyed the history of calligraphy at the very beginning; a lot of books about crafts and art do not offer a history section so it was quite refreshing. I also enjoyed the use of photos and illustrations to make points clear. If you aren't fully versed in calligraphy, it can be difficult to image the different types of pens and nib types used. The photos included in this book do a great job making the tools of the trade clear. This book also includes some practice pages inside it, so it would be perfect to make a few copies at home and use those pages to practice. However, my favorite aspect of this book is the comparison of older scripts and calligraphy in the front half and then the contemporary scripts and calligraphy in the back. It is fun to learn to do these two types of writing styles, while seeing how much the differ.

I've been dabbling with lettering as of late, and books like this one are such a treasure to read and learn from. It's a very helpful guide, it's well written, things are well explained, and I loved the techniques it had to offer. It's comprehensive, and it provides answers to many of the questions one might have when starting out. I really enjoyed this book.

This book is for anyone who is ready to get serious about calligraphy! The authors go into loving detail about each stroke and gives clear visuals on how the strokes and letetrs should look. The book includes pratcices pages with appropriate guidleines. They also discuss teh toools needed. This book is absoluetly what I needed to get started in calligraphy!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Wow this took A lot of work! Great introductory book. It spells everything out. Gives you a space to practice. I am a true beginner and this did not overwhelm me. I quickly showed my daughter who has been doing calligraphy and she said great book! Lots of info. I rate this a solid 4.

A good overall introduction to Calligraphy & Lettering. Might be a bit basic for those who already are experienced.

The Complete Book of Calligraphy and Lettering is certainly comprehensive. As well as discussing things such as materials, design, layout and colour choices, it provides lessons and templates in a large and varied selection of different hands. There really is something here that would work for any handlettering project. For each hand there is also space within the book for you to practise. Overall, the design work on this edition is good too. The layout is crisp, clean and easy to read, with plenty of illustrations along the way. I have been wanting to get myself a book such as this, but with so many available, it's been hard to decide which to choose. Having now seen this one, though, it is definitely a strong contender for purchase in the new year. 4.5 stars

This is a comprehensive, richly detailed introduction to calligraphy techniques and hands (I learned early on in the book not to call them fonts). Beyond instructions on how to set up your workspace, how to handle various of writing implements, and how to get started with practice strokes, this book is a compendium of lettering styles and advice about how and when to use them. There are pages of different writing styles, followed by sections on embellishments, initial letters, simple projects, and even working with chalk. An excellent and comprehensive introduction to this craft.
