I love these YA DC comics titles, and this is a particularly good one. The things they do with color are fantastic, and the story is a great take on an already well known character. Familiar enough to be nice, different enough to be interesting.
A great introduction to the Teen Titans canon for new readers or a delightful continuation of a beloved character for existing fans. I really enjoyed Garcia's novel and her depiction of Raven.
I gave this a four out of five stars. This is the first thing I've read by the author. I really liked the illustrations by Gabriel Picolo. I liked the story a lot. I want to read more by this author. I recommend that you should check this out.
Was an interesting start to the character. Excited to see what happens and am hopeful for a series.
I enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next edition. I'm not familiar with the recent Teen Titan iterations, but didn't find myself confused.
Interesting concept on the origins of Raven. Enjoyed the graphic novel aspect. Not my favorite but still pretty good.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have to admit that I picked this book to read because I love Raven and that fact that Kami did this book. Raven is a girl who lost her foster mother due to a car accident and she has to move to live with her foster mother's sister in New Orleans. Raven does mourn the lost of her mother, but does not remember her at all for in the car accident Raven lost her memories. When starting over at a new school and new friends she finds that she can sense and feel their emotions. She even wish something bad to happen to a mean girl and school only for it actually happen. She needs to figure out these abilities. It was a good book.
A re-imagining of the origin for Raven of the Teen Titans, I believe this is the first of a series for each of the Titans. The story starts with an accident that wipes Raven's memories and kills her foster mother. Thus, we unravel the mysteries of what makes her so special at the same time she is herself, while dealing with dangers from her past and potential romances from her present.
This was fun, and I loved the art style, but it honestly felt a little thin, like everything happening was just taking a little too long to do so. This might have worked better if Raven wasn't such a well-known character, but the mystery of her background just seemed to last forever, when it wasn't actually a mystery at all, one of the dangers when you're writing a legacy character like this. Similarly, what happened with the love interest felt really obvious, but took most of the book to actually resolve. A decent start, marred by issues I'm hoping are just first-volume things that disappear as the story continues.
Teen Titans Raven by Kami Garci illustrated by Gabriel Picolo. I’ve never been big on Teen Titans but if Kami Garcia is writing it, I’m willing to check it out. This one was so good and I look forward to reading stories about all of the other TT characters.
This graphic novel was great. Raven is such an interesting character, and I loved learning more about her.
I hope Kami comes out with more graphic novels soon, I think everyone should read this. It is one of my favorite reads of the year. The story is good, along with the character development. I read this in one sitting; one, because it was a pretty easy read, and two, it captivated me. And the art! It is so beautiful. I bought the complete - in color edition, and it is stunning. Definitely a five star read.
Thanks to the publishers’ for the advanced copy. I read the published version. I loved the images and layout. The story was compelling and glimpses of Beast Boy was fun to see.
4.5 Stars!
I really liked this one! The art style was fantastic, I really liked the story line and the incorporation of tarot cards and voodoo. The characters were great, I loved the sister dynamic, even though they were only foster sisters, Raven was really welcomed into the family. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in this series!
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
Teen Titans: Raven (Teen Titans #1) by Kami Garcia is a graphic novel with a story written by Kami Garcia and illustrated by Gabriel Picolo. Fans of YA may recognize Kami Garcia as a coauthor of the Beautiful Creatures series. Teen Titans: Raven is Garcia's first graphic novel.
Growing up I was a DC Comic fan but, after the introduction of the Marvel Avengers movies, especially Iron Man, I switched teams. However, you do not need to be a fan of Teen Titans, Raven, or DC Comics to appreciate the way in which Garcia and Picolo present Raven's origin story.
I thought the story was interesting and enjoyed the illustrations. Many reviews mention Raven's snarky attitude is missing from the story. I had not watched or read the Teen Titans and my niece was too young to understand attitude so I do not have a reference in which to compare Raven's story. Although enough reviews mention the lack of snarkiness I felt the need to mention it.
The 2nd book in the series, Teen Titans: Beast Boy (Teen Titans #2) will also be written by Kami Garcia and illustrated by Gabriel Picolo. It is scheduled to be released in 2020.

My kids love Teen Titans Go, which means I've seen the show, or at least snippets of it, many, many times.
From what I've seen Raven has always been my favorite, so I was excited to get my hands on this book!
I loved the story line, the colors, and all of the illustrations of this book. My only complaint was that it was a bit short and I was left craving much more. I was hoping for a longer developed character with Raven, but I don't read a lot of graphic novels, so that may just be the nature of this type of story.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book!
I really enjoyed this one, and so did my (Tween) son. It was so fun learning Raven’s backstory, and I love the YA slant. It’s rare to find a book that appeals equally to an 11 yr old and 40 yr old, but this one definitely did the trick- great read!
Amazing backstory that makes readers view Raven as more than an otherworldly creature who can float. Graphic artist, Gabriel Picolo, illustrates Raven's struggle and potential beautifully. Any lover of the Teen Titan series will love this. Really looking forward to Beast Boy's story.
A Raven story is great but the art is what stands out in this book. The art style. The use of color. The flow of the panels and how the page space is used. This is a work of beauty!
Raven has always been one of my favorite comic book characters. I loved the insight we got into her story and family in this. I was unable to put it down as I zoomed through to see what was going to happen. I really loved the art style and the pacing.
Raven has always been my favorite Teen Titan. I might or might not be guilty of watching the cartoon with my son at times. This was a wonderful novel and I am so happy that I was able to see it!
A great origin story with beautiful artwork and amazing writing. Recommended for any library collection school or public. I am truly impressed with the way DC has branched out into the YA market.
