Melissa is a pick up and go kinda person and is now working at a men shelter when she finds herself in danger. Dex has been working on looking more into his fathers death which doesn't seem to add up to him. That is when he manages to find clues and ties to Melissa and the homeless people in the area. After a few attempts on her life and the fact that Melissa can't stay away from trouble Dex will try to protect her and piece everything together.

There was so much going on in this book that there will never be a dull moment for the readers. Once I started it I just couldn't put the book down. I loved seeing how everything worked together, seeing as old secrets were revealing themselves over time. I loved seeing the connection between Dex and Melissa and getting to know their characters and backstories. I also loved getting the dual point of view of the characters getting their perspectives of what was going on and why they did certain things throughout the books. Overall pretty great book I really enjoyed reading it.

This second chance, cowboy, murder mystery is the fourth in the series of the Hawk's Landing books. It can be read as a stand alone as the author briefly provides all the pertinent back stories, but then you miss the romance parts. This is Dexter's story, the youngest of the male Hawks and the one who has felt most guilty about the disappearance of their baby sister, Chrissy, as he was probably the last to see her, after he told her to "get lost" - but he also wasn't the one that was supposed to be baby sitting her. All four of Chrissy brothers ended up going into law enforcement of some type. The mystery of her death was solved in the first book. However, their father had also disappeared while searching for her and as a PI, Dex has continued to look for him. He had been mentor by his friend Detective Frank Lamar and the story starts out with Lamar informing Dex that their father had been found, killed in an auto accident. But the brothers are not convinced and this leads to Dex investigating the disappearance of men from homeless shelters and reuniting with his college sweetheart, Melissa Gentry. Although he convinced himself that he would never have a relationship or family, becasue it hurts too much, the rest of his family has found their other half and when Melissa's life is threatened, Dex promises himself he will keep her safe. Of course, Melissa, has her own abandonment issues, having grown up in homeless shelters herself with her father. Lots of twist and turns in this fast moving, well written story.

Hostage At Hawks Landing bring a the mystery of their lost father to a end that will have readers of the series happy.

Melissa just happens to be the one characters that drives me crazy. She does everything that is opposite and many time readers will want to scream STOP!

Rita Herron is able to capture the love, passion and fear that happens between the characters.

The writing style is perfect for Harlequin Intrigue. Wham Bam and Happy Ever After.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Intrigue for Advance copy of Rita Herron Hostage at Hawks Landing

Well written, but predictable. All of the twist elements of the story were evident to me from the initial setup.

This was okay, I just found at times it was a little slow compared to some of the other Harlequin Intrigue books, but still a okay quick read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher
