Talia torna prima. E i guai iniziano.
I give this book 5 stars. The storyline between Shawn and Jessie was well written. I recommend this book. They a roommates that are attached to each other. He is her best friends older brother, will they get there HEA ending? I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
This is a new author for me and I must say I quite enjoyed this, the storyline was interesting and the characters quite likeable, I look forward to reading more.
I received a copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
What happens when your best friends brother needs a place to crash and you can't stop thinking about him?
A smokin' hot read full of witty one-liners, great characters who keep you reading page after page, and the promise of a happy-ever-after.
Don't miss the first book in Rebecca Brooks new series. I can't wait for the next installment!
Cute little rom com. I’m not sure how I would feel about my roommate letting her brother stay in our apartment while she’s gone but the premise was, ok. All around it wasn’t bad. Not my favorite but not bad.
This book was super fun! After reading a heavy emotional book, I needed a fun palate cleanser, and this was perfect. I'd been looking forward to the book anyway, but the timing ended up being just right. Shawn was a bit of an idiot, but I feel like he shaped up by the end. I was worried when Julia mentioned she was working in publishing, but the author kept it vague enough that it wouldn't be obvious exactly what she was doing. This book has a heavy dose of romance with enough plot and side characters sprinkled in to make a fun book with companion novel possibility.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect mix of angst, tension, smuttiness and general character development. I loved how the author played with stereotypes. The writing pulled you in and put a large focus on the dialogue between the two main characters. The plot felt clear and definitely kept me entertained. I am really intrigued to see where the series will go and how it will continue. Please be advised that this book is not for younger readers. Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I absolutely loved it! I'm a huge fan of sweet and funny romance stories like this one where the couple doesn't jump in bed together right away, well at least to have sex that is. It allows for the tension to build up when it's done like this.
I give Jessie huge kudos since she really tried hard to keep her hands off of Shawn. I wouldn't have lasted one minute in her place. Especially after that steamy towel scene! I honestly feel that Shawn was perfect for Jessie since while it's great to be a career driven responsible adult, it's all pointless if you can't ever loosen up and have a little fun in life.
I'm a huge new fan of this author and will definitely be checking out more from her in the future! I'm very much looking forward to reading more of this series as well. I highly recommend reading this to anyone.
Wrong Bed, Right Roommate is a cute, low-angst best friend's brother/roommate romance. Jessie has always had a crush on her best friend's brother, Shawn -- but back in high school, he was a major playboy, a major screwup, and straight-laced Jessie was the last girl he'd ever look at twice. On top of that, his rep more or less ruined most of his sister's friendships aside from Jessie, so she remained fiercely loyal to her bestie.
Until she wakes up one morning, ten years or so later, to find an all-grown-up Shawn in her bed!
Of course, it's a mistake: he's crashing in his sister's room while she's out of town, and mistakes Jessie's room for Talia's. While the two are able to laugh it off at first, there is a wonderful simmering tension between them... and it doesn't take long for them to explore their attraction.
Jessie and Shawn spend the summer doing couple-y things, but never have The Talk about what is going on between them. So when Talia unexpectedly comes home (the day of their most romantic and honest date yet!), things kind of explode. And not in a good way.
I really liked the connection between the characters. It was spicy and sweet, and I understood both good girl Jessie as well as Shawn's struggles in proving he's not a screw-up and wanting to get his ish together. I just wish they'd been honest with their feelings for one another. But I know, if they had, there wouldn't have been The Conflict, The Breakup or The Makeup.
This was the first book I've read by Rebecca Brooks, and I was pleasantly surprised! I'd love to see Talia find a guy next! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
A great, fast, easy read.
I needed a good read to get my mind out of life. This was a great read to do so.
It was a short, quick read but didn’t lack any necessary detail nor did it feel “rushed”. I feel it had the necessary amount of detail to get the point across and create the visualization. The characters were easy to figure out and keep up with.
I feel like detail and descriptions were on part with a great book. There weren’t any moments in the story in which I was guessing or wondering what was going on. The romance scenes were fairly steamy and detailed. To be honest, I just skipped over those specific portions of the book because it wasn’t necessary for me to read them to understand what was happening, but from the little bit I did read, they were detailed.
To say I wasn’t emotionally invested in this story and this couple would be an understatement. I was really cheering for this couple. They were perfect for one another for many reasons. So naturally, I found myself incredibly frustrated with them and other characters. I really wanted to stop reading because of how well the author wrote these scenes but I’m really glad I didn’t.
I really enjoyed this story and the break from reality it afforded me. I’d definitely recommend this story to anyone and would venture out on suggesting other books by this author as well.
A sweet and sexy best friend's older brother and opposites attract romance. A summer fling turned so much more. Beautiful storyline and great characters. I really enjoyed this book.
Jessie Santana lives with her best friend Talia in NYC. She's quiet, focused and organized. Shawn Lassiter is Talia's older brother and he goes from woman to woman and job to job. He's never been the settling down type. He ends up in NYC for a new job at a brewery and ends up being Jessie's roommate for the summer while Talia is in London with her dance group. Shawn can't believe his gorgeous roommate is the same nerdy girl he knew in high school. Jessie knows Shawn's reputation and tries to stay away but finds herself being drawn into him.
Sassy goodness! The latest from Rebecca Brooks is a fast paced best friend's older brother story with an easy to like couple. They're both starting new jobs that are important to their futures, but the attraction that swiftly rears it's head between them is sure to be a distraction. There were a few plot holes that could have been livened up a bit, but overall a solid read.
Jessie Santana never expected to wake up to a strange man climbing into her bed, but when she flips on the light and sees who it actually is, it's even worse! Her childhood crush who also happens to be her roomie best friend's older brother stands before her in all of his muscular glory! She can't believe she's going to be stuck with him for more than two months!
Shawn Lassiter is finally starting to grow up and figure out a little bit about how the big bad world works, and moving to New York is a new opportunity for him with the extended job that he's starting. Finding a friendly face at his sister's house would have been nice, but Jessie is anything but excited to see him ... until the sparks start to fly!
Rating 4.5/5
If you are a sucker for any trope designed for the MC having a crush on their sibling's BF, then this is the book for you. I love seeing how crushes that start at such a young age develop into adulthood and now has to deal with all the emotions involved with having that crush manifest into love. And having Jessie stuck in a situation that forces her to deal with that crush was a perfect introduction to this story!
Shawn was.... mmmmm. Yummy. Not your typical *strong* male lead in the sense that many male MC are. He was sweet, romantic and thoughtful and remained that throughout the entire book and so it was no question that I fell for him as hard as Jessie did. Especially learning of his previous bachelor days and how he was tired of it - I mean really what guy says that??? That was a breath of fresh air.
The best part of all this was how Ms. Brooks flawlessly intertwined real and honest situations that force the characters to develop into stronger people for their new relationship. I loved all of the emotions captured and felt my heart breaking the same moments theirs did. Solid 5 star on that front for me.
*Mahalo to Rebecca Brooks, Entangled Publishing and Xpresso Book Tours for providing me a copy and allowing me to be a part of this tour in exchange for this review.*
Best friend/sibling is one of my favorite tropes. Rebecca Brooks and Wrong Bed, Right Roommate did not disappoint.
I love the premise of this story... It’s the middle of the night. Shawn Lassiter has just worked out a deal to sublease his sister's room while she's chasing her dreams in Europe. He arrives and assumes the slightly opened bedroom door is his room for the next two months. He gets undressed, gets in bed and is startled by the scream of Jessie Santana, his sister Talia’s best friend since childhood. Perfect. Set up. Shawn has walked into the wrong bedroom, but the right woman to help him become the man he wants to be.
From the beginning, Wrong Bed, Right Roommate had my attention. Jessie and Shawn were so easy to relate to, become invested in, and love. I wanted them to be together from the very beginning. Both are finally on a path toward their dream jobs. Jessie is an editorial assistant for a big publisher. Shawn is an assistant at an up and coming brewery, and out to prove that he can do the job and deserves it.
Jessie and Shawn both know they should stay away from each other. They don't have a romantic past with each other. But they both know the damage Shawn caused in high school, when he slept with two of Talia and Jessie’s friends. But a growing friendly roommate relationship quickly becomes more. Shawn and Jessie know they have to keep their summer fling from Talia a secret, and know this puts an expiration date on their relationship. The question becomes what are Jessie and Shawn willing to risk for a once-in-a-lifetime chance at love.
I loved everything about Wrong Bed, Right Roommate. As I said, Shawn and Jessie were great characters. In the end, Talia was very surprising. I was also surprised to find parts of the story to be heartbreaking. Shawn and Jessie have layers that I'm not sure they even know they have. They compliment each other in every way. I love that this was a romance, but that the story also focused on the friendship between Jessie and Talia. I can't wait to see what else Rebecca has in store for her Accidental Love series.
Talia and Jessie have friends since grade school. When they decide to move from their small town to the “big” city, they find it very different and more expensive than they ever imagined. Together, they rent a tiny apartment in NYC. When Talia leaves for the summer with her dance company, they sublet Talia’s room so rent is covered. Until their renter falls through...
Shawn needs a place to stay. He can’t take another night on the broken down couch. When his sister contacts him with a solution to all their problems, he gladly accepts. Shawn, plagued by bad choices, really wants to prove himself and be successful at the brewery. So he packs his bag and heads to Talia’s, hoping for a peaceful night’s sleep. That is until he slides into the wrong bed.....
Shawn remembers Jessie as a glasses wearing, nerdy type. He definitely doesn’t remember her as the stunning woman he’s just slid into bed with. On the other hand, Jessie remembers Shawn’s hooking up ways! But she has to admit he’s definitely HOT now! Although Jessie’s not pleased with Talia, she and Shawn agree to be “friends” since they’ll be living together for the summer. When one kiss leads to more, they decide to enjoy themselves until Talia comes home. But will Talia be so accepting?
I loved that the “Alpha male” in this story was kind of broken. I liked the he was REAL! Shawn made poor decisions, as we all do. But he truly wanted to be successful, trustworthy, and loved. Very relatable! I liked how Jessie brought out the best in Shawn and fueled his desire to BE better, not only for her but for himself as well. I enjoyed Shawn’s encouragement of Jessie too. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Jessie is a driven workaholic who needs everything neat and tidy in order to function. She needs everything planned to the last degree and is the last person who her friends will think of for having boy trouble, she’s just too sensible. So why has she found the forbidden territory of her best friends brother so irresistible? Fun story. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Falling for your best friend’s sibling is one of my favorite romance tropes, which is why I couldn’t resist picking up Wrong Bed, Right Roommate. Rebecca Brooks has kicked off her Accidental Love series with a sexy forbidden romance.
I have the greatest affection for tightly-wound heroines and Jessie definitely fits the bill. She’s driven, obsessively organized, and determined to be successful now that she’s got her chance to get her foot in the door of New York publishing. Jessie does need to learn to loosen up a bit, and that’s where Shawn comes in. Shawn is Jessie’s opposite in most ways and I admit I had a harder time connecting with him. He has been selfish in the past and has treated the women in his life as fairly disposable, but he recognizes his behavior and is determined to turn his life around which I did like. Shawn also has a tendency to be so laid-back that he can be fairly irresponsible, to the point where I had trouble believing the ending of this story. I don’t want to say too much and spoil the book, but while there was some genuine growth in Shawn’s character, at times his progress didn’t feel earned. Perhaps a bit more time spent with him might have made him feel a bit more believable by the end.
Lust and close quarters are the kick Jessie and Shawn need to “break the rules” and fall into bed. Their romance was solid and there was some nice emotional development, but it felt a bit flat to me. There wasn’t anything particularly new or fresh about the romance to make it stand out, nor were the dialogue or the chemistry between the leads exciting enough to make me simply sit back and enjoy watching beloved tropes play out. I’ve adored Ms. Brooks’s books in the past and I know she can pack and emotional punch, but Jessie and Shawn just fell a bit short of the mark. All the elements were there and the story was good, but I did finish Wrong Bed, Right Roommate feeling like I wanted a bit more.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
While I enjoyed watching as Shawn started to grown up from kind of a jerk to starting to see that how his actions have hurt others and that he needs to find his purpose in life and not just sit on his girlfriends couch - this book really had me feeling my age as these two were just so young and new at living on their own.
Jessie is really uptight, and Shawn is more laid back so they actually work well for each other. He helps her relax and she shows him that he needs a purpose.
Nice HEA after Shawn's sister finally realizes that they were more than a fling!
What a cute cover! This is a yummy combination of the best friend’s brother and forced proximity tropes, along with the collision of a Peter Pan fuckboy and a control freak, post-it-loving over-achevier.
When Jessie’s BFF and roommate Talia goes to London for the summer, finding someone else to sublet their apartment in Brooklyn proves to be stressful, especially since Jessie is starting her new job as an assistant editor at a prestigious fantasy publisher soon. Luckily, Talia’s brother, Shawn, has just transferred to the Brooklyn branch of the brewery he works for, and he needs someplace to stay. Perfect, right? Well, back in high school, Jessie had a crush on Shawn, but after watching his date-em-and-dump-em antics break apart their friend circle, she knows he’s bad news. Unfortunately – or fortunately – that attraction is still there, and it’s obvious that Shawn returns it. Can Jessie and Shawn keep to their strictly platonic roommates deal, or will they both risk their relationship with Talia for a chance at a relationship with each other?
“She’d always taken it for granted that Shawn thought he was amazing—God’s gift to baseball, and girls, and their small-town school. But that was then. It sounded like Shawn wanted other things now.
It left her wondering what those things were.”
I liked Jessie a lot. She’s a girl after my own heart, who’s got her life all planned out and prefers to spend evenings in under a comfy blanket with a book. She’s landed her dream job and knows that she’ll have to work hard to impress her boss, but unfortunately work is all she thinks she has time for. In that regard, Shawn couldn’t be more her opposite. He’s aimless and, in the past, he hasn’t been willing to put the work in – for either his jobs or his relationships. He’s determined to turn over a new leaf with his move to NYC and his job as assistant brewer. You wouldn’t think that Jessie and Shawn were that similar, but as they interact, they find out they have more in common – they both are trying to prove themselves to bosses who think they can do it all, and they both need the balance in their life that the other provides.
It was all too familiar. If she substituted pages for barrels, it would be the same thing.
She raised her glass. “To being highly successful, competent, trustworthy, invaluable employees that our bosses don’t yet realize they can’t live without.”
He laughed and clinked glasses with her. “And to not setting anything on fire.” He paused. “Yet.”
It was so much fun watching them try to fight their initial attraction for each other, even as they slowly realized how much they had in common. They both have a great sense of humor, and their interactions were frequently hilarious. Normally, I’d say I’m not much of a fan of playboy heroes who are reformed by the love of that one special woman. But, Ms. Brooks did an amazing job with Shawn that I truly felt for him. He fully acknowledges his past selfishness as well, without placing the blame on his past girlfriends, and is just plain tired of drifting through life with no purpose or direction, irresponsible and not worth anything more than a temporary good time. While I love the “best friend’s brother/sister” trope, sometimes the backstory of why the couple shouldn’t be together is, well, weak. Not the case for this book! Even Shawn, in all his fuckboy glory, realizes he messed up by dating and dumping two of his sister’s best friends in high school, completely decimating her friend circle. The only friend who stuck with her was Jessie. It really upped the stakes for why the relationship was such a bad idea – not only does Jessie have evidence that Shawn’s a love-em-and-leave-em guy, and therefore likely nothing more than a distraction from her work, but it will also seriously hurt Talia to see her best friend follow their footsteps. So, you can probably guess exactly what happens, and while I was initially upset with what I saw as Talia’s overreaction, I think she more than made up for it.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this book, and I’m hoping it’ll be the first in the series. I definitely want to read Talia’s book!
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Wrong bedroom turns out right!
Jessie Santana needs a temporary roommate while her roommate Talia, is touring Europe with her dance company because she couldn’t afford the rent by herself. Talia’s brother Shawn Lassiter needs a place to stay instead of couch surfing. Shawn gabs to opportunity without hearing from Jessie first when he gets to the apartment he ends up in the wrong bedroom. Talia told Shawn not to sleep with Jessie after he slept with Talia’s friends in high school.
Jessie’s dream was working in publishing and moving home would derail the dream. Shawn had always taken the easy way out with people and with work so his transferring to New York City to work for the brewery was a big step for him. Plus owning up to dating Jessie when Talia didn’t approve was a big step forward.
Wrong Bed, Right Roommate is a fun read where the reader cheers for Jessie and Shawn to make it and the epilogue brought the story to a perfect close.
