What Happens in France - Carol Wyer
I love Carol Wyer, she is absolutely one of my very favourite authors. I wasn't aware that initially she wrote chick lit as I first found her via Detective Robyn Carter series and since then I've read everything I can get my hands on.
The story in told in the past and the present which tenses I always enjoy as I feel it gives a little added depth to the characters. I have to say that the characters made me smile they were believable and engaging, I learnt a lot about the way that game shows work (everyday is a school day as my mum always said) the author having applied means that the process is accurate.
This was a really easy and fun book to read, I had a smile on my face most of the way through it. For all I smiled a lot there was still some poignant and personal parts which did have me with a lump in my throat. Carol shows in her books that she takes the time to look into her chosen topics. I highly recommend all of this authors books.
Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley, Carol Wyer and Canelo Publishers
What Happens in France is a light hearted novel with a serious message. A young teacher seeking to regain contact with her missing sister enters a reality type competition. This was an easy read with bland characters.
Lighthearted and fun, a book for the summer. No major tricks and turns, just sweet and sunny. Recommended for the beach.
What a lovely read, gorgeous characters that were easy to get to know, funny parts, sad parts and uplifting parts that all came together to make a wonderful read, loved it
Enjoyed this book as a light easy read. Good story
Thanks net galley for the chance to review this title.
A light read, ideal holiday read. I enjoyed the game-show setting ( had feared it might be a bit cheesy, but it was quite the opposite). It was a light-hearted amusing romp through northern France with a more serious search for a long lost sibling.
Lovely feel good summer read. What’s not to love sun sea and sadly ur reading about it instead of living it. Easy to read and flowed well. Perfect summer book
Oh this book!
As someone with 2 sisters that I ADORE, the thought of losing touch made me emotional before I’d even started!
I think the scene setting and character development were brilliant and helped me to be immersed in the story!
Also: any book with a brilliant dog gets my vote!
This was really sweet and I can’t wait to see what more Carol has in store for us!
really enjoyed this book.
nice light hearted feel good read.
really enjoyed all the characters and felt everything on the journey to finding her sister
really enjoyed the france section and found the descriptions brilliant. really could picture it all
This is a light, entertaining, easy read with lots of likeable characters. It was sometimes a little silly and I couldn’t quite connect emotionally with the characters and I seem to have missed the advertised laugh out loud moments.
This was a delightful story and once started I couldn't put it down. An emotional roller coaster with some really amusing parts and some very sad. There has to be a happy ending doesn't there!!!
I love game shows so when I saw What Happens in France it piqued my interest. Bryony wanting to find her long lost sister, made me want to read it more.
I love a book that can make me laugh and this was humorous and a little romance added to the mix.
If you are looking for a fun read then this is definitely it.
What a totally brilliant read. Bryony is desperately searching for her sister Hannah, who ran away at 16 years old. Their father is desperately ill and Bryony must find a Hannah before it is too late. But how, where can she even begin? Then an idea strikes and the reader is taken on a wonderful journey full of fun, laughter, sadness and love.
The characters are great and you really get to know them. Even the little pug dog named BiggieSmall. His little costumes bringing a sense of humour to the character. Then there is Lewis, who sounds good enough to eat, there has to be a love interest in every good story after all. As for Professor Potts, well, I will let you draw your own conclusions about him!
The final two chapters reduced me to tears. So beautifully written. I completely felt every emotion possible.
A a wonderful read and I highly recommend it to you all. I do hope that Carol Wyer writes a ‘Part Two’
I read this book all the way through however I can't say enjoyed it.. it was girl meets boy, girl thinks he us still in love with previous girlfriend.
What a quirky, funny, romantic, entertaining and sweet read. I really enjoyed this change in genre of a very talented author. However, I've been loving Carol's blood and gore series, so kept on expecting a serial killer to pop up somewhere along the line! But that's just me LOL
Highly recommended.
I love a good rom-com and a big fan of Sophie Kinsella, and if you are like me then you should really enjoy this book.
Its a great summer read and will keep you giggling and wanting to know if Bryony ever finds her sister the author writing style is light and easy to read and i really enjoyed this book a lot was nice to have a good giggle
I loved every moment of “What Happens in France”. The main appeal of this book was that all of the action and events took place in France.
I loved that the author, Carol Wyer, placed great emphasis on the camaraderie between the participants of the reality challenge.
The author’s descriptions of the setting were first class and I wish I could have been there, on holiday, myself!
This book was a great pleasure to read and I would definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel at my own request from Canelo via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
What a fun read, with a serious side to it too. Really enjoyed thus easy read book, with a few laugh out loud moments. Would recommend
This is the most entertaining book I have read for ages. A light read but fast paced and there are a few interesting characters. Bryony is desperate to find her long lost sister Hannah. Clutching at straws she decides to go on a game show where she hopes to get the chance to publicise her search.
I started this on the plane and finished on the beach.
A different take on a romance story which made for a great holiday read.
