A very good read and one I can highly recommend to others.
I could not put this down.
Thoroughly enjoyable with an amazing cast of characters that you cannot help but engage with.
A fun summer beach read with a great plot. I enjoyed the story line and characters. I look forward to reading more from this author!
This book was pitched as romance, but if you ask me, I’d tell you it was more of a women’s fiction. And before you tell me that romance can also be subgenre of women’s fiction, I will just tell you that this novel talks more about self-discovery and life then about love.
I loved the setting in this story. It is full of nature and wildness, and also the main character is aspiring author, which is a plus in my eyes.
The writing style was amazing and I would like to check other things that Catherine Ferguson has written, because I have a feeling I’d enjoy then as well.
The only thing that could bother other readers (however, I didn’t mind it) is it’s predictability. Some things were obvious from the start so the shocking moment wasn’t that shocking at all.
Overall, this is a funny story, perfect to bring with on your summer vacation.
This sadly fell a little flat for me. It felt quite cliche and the main protagonist was quite irritating in how she couldn't see what was right in front of her. Knowing so little about someone she had been dating for a long time felt too convenient and just some of the situations just were not believable. It was well written but I just didn't engage with it as much as I had hoped.
I was sent this book by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have read a few of Catherine Ferguson's previous novels which I have enjoyed and I really liked this one too. A lovely easy read, lighthearted but heartwarming. A story of grief, relationships, family and second chances. I really liked the main character and was rooting for her throughout the book. Lovely setting - mainly on a glamping holiday.
A perfect book for a cosy afternoon on the sofa or in the garden.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really lovely book to read. Although quite short it ends happily and not without a tear in the eye. Some of this story resonated with me having lost my lovely mum last year. But, saying that I throughly enjoyed this book and was very glad I read it.
I would love to read more of this authors books and as she has written more I shall definitely be looking out for them.
My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins to giving me the opportunity to read this book in return of an honest review.
Such a fun, light-hearted beach read. Highly recommend!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is a quick, fun lighthearted and refreshing read, perfect for the summer.
Daisy has had a tough year so decides to go glamming with her boyfriend. But he hates the outdoors! However, Jake from across the lake lives the outdoors!
A lovely read!
Summer Under the Stars by Catherine Ferguson is a sweet love story. Daisy has had a rough year. She lost her mother and is working a job she hates. When her boyfriend, Toby, suggested a summer getaway, she books a romantic trip at a glamping site, her friend owns. Toby hates the outdoors, and only cares about his WIFI. Daisy meets Jake, a writer from across the lake, who is more than willing to keep her company. If you are looking for a summer read, than give this book a try. I love the cover.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.
Received this book as an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I was excited to read this one because of the cover - it was gorgeuos! I thought that the story was a pretty quick, fun read - definitely a story to enjoy during summer. It was pretty fast to get through and I have no complaints about the storyline. Would definitely read this one again or recommend to friends
A nice and quick, feel-good summer read. Catherine Ferguson's Summer Under the Stars is a delightful story with good characterization and charming wit. Gorgeous cover too!
A quick easy summer read. Daisy has just lost her mom, and decides to go to the area where her birth mother was from. Taking along her deadbeat boyfriend was a mistake, but at least she finally wises up of course. A little slow at times, and skimmable at times, but overall I enjoyed the story. Again, an easy summer read that makes a great take along. Would recommend.
A nice romantic easy holiday read. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.
A very disappointing read
The storyline was unoriginal and predictable. I think there were many ways that the plot could have gone but it went nowhere.
The last third of this book is amazing - fast paced, romantic, heart warming and just plain fab. How it reaches this climax caused me some anguish regarding the heroine of the story and her relationship however I’ll let you make up your own mind. I’d certainly read more by this author. A definite cosy, romantic read.
Thank you Netgalley.
The main protagonist in Summer Under the Stars is Daisy, a hopeful writer who just lost her adoptive mum. It follows her as she has a week-long escape at her old friend's new glamping site with her boyfriend, Toby. There's new romances and a search for her birth mother thrown into the mix as well. I always struggle through books when I don't really empathise with the main character. I found Toby to be very irritating and I didn't like that Daisy just begrudgingly accepted him and their relationship. I would have preferred Daisy to be a more strong-willed character. However, if you just want a read that's an easy escape, Summer Under the Stars will be right up your alley.
I'm now searching for glamping holidays after reading this book! I was transported into Daisy's world and stayed there until the very last page. There was lots of plots and sub plots and I enjoyed the twists and turns on her voyage of discovery. This would be a great book to read on holiday.
I really wanted to reach through the book and give our main character, Daisy, a hug. She went through a lot in this book from losing her mom to having a crap boyfriend to finding love and her birth mom. The beginning was a little slow moving for me but about 60 pages in I was hooked and wanted to see what would happen next. Her boyfriend was just the worst! He was just all about him and I understand being committed to your work but if your partner is having a hard time you drop stuff and take care of them. Her new love interest was just such a sweetheart and definitely what she needed during this difficult phase of being without her mom.
3.5/5
This book was a fun, quick read that I read in one sitting. It was a women's fiction that had a bit of depth, but overall the romance aspect left me wanting a bit more. When it comes to Daisy's love life, it's a bit of a mess. Her relationship with Toby has you disliking him from the start so that makes you like Jake even more once he comes along. I can see where the loss of her mom kept her in a relationship with Toby even though it wasn't a good match. Toby's mom was what Daisy needed in her life, but Toby is slimy. He took advantage of Daisy and often put everything else before her (it was difficult to see her treated so poorly). I was glad to see that relationship end and her find someone more suited to her personality. I just just wish the book had a bit more of the story between Daisy and Jake.
I loved the adoption aspect of the book and I felt that relationship was perfectly written. The story line between her two mothers was both relatable and heartfelt. I could only imagine how difficult the situation must have been for Daisy. I loved that Daisy reconnected with an old friend and they were able to be there for each other.
Overall this was an enjoyable, light read that would be perfect for someone looking for a escape from reality for a bit. It is a little rough around the edges, but will keep you hooked as Daisy figures her life out.
Summer Under the Stars is a book that if you want a quick, feel-good read, then it’s a decent one to pick up.
Daisy just lost her best friend, her mother. As Daisy’s is grieving over the loss of her last and only family member, she begins to think more about who her biological mother is and finds a mysterious purse with an address that directs her back to her birth hometown
Daisy's job of being the writer for Plunge Happy Monthly doesn't seem to cut it for her writing ambitions. Her boyfriend, Toby who is obsessed with his finance job doesn't take her passion for writing all too seriously. In fact, he doesn't seem to take their relationship all too seriously. So, Daisy books a birthday trip of glamping to her friend, Clemmy’s establishment in hopes of rekindling her relationship with Toby. It also happens to be located right by the town where she was born.
As Daisy quickly realized that Toby is not an outdoors person, she allows him to work during this week away while she ventures off to enjoy the countryside. In an expected and funny way, she meets the author, Jake Steele.
In a predictable manner, we see that Toby is not the one for Daisy, especially after cheating on her with their tent neighbour, Chantelle that I could see happening the moment Toby first scoffed at Chantelle’s appearance.
The thing that I was not a fan of was how quickly she fell for Jake. It just seemed way too quick to know that she was in love with him that set me off.
However, the book was redeemed by including the budding relationship between Daisy and her birth mother and knowing that that relationship would take time to get to the point that Daisy wouldn’t feel like she was betraying her adopted mother. This was a nice touch.
