I did not like this book. I found the story line lacking and I didn't really like either of the main characters. The entire story seemed like something that would never happen in the real world
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book to review.
This book requires the reader to suspend disbelief a bit too much. It was still a quick and fun read, but definitely not on the top of the thriller list for me
I have to admit, I was not blown away by this one. The book had a lot of promise based on the primary theme but it didn't deliver. It never bodes well for me when I realize I'm struggling to maintain interest in a book.
First of all, if you are trying to get revenge you would think she would have a bigger plan than the little minor things she did like erased messages. The book drags to make you understand both women and what they went through as children to build up to a massive climax that doesn't happen. Instead it seems like the ending was just a rushed jumble to just wrap everything up in a neat unrealistic bow quickly to save time.
I wasn’t familiar with this author previously but definitely enjoyed the book. Pretty Revenge was a quick read that I picked up in the middle of another book then couldn’t put down. This is the story of two young women, one who is building a wedding planning business, the other who is trying to take her down. The more I read, the more I was intrigued by the story. I will definitely read more books by this author in the future.
The big reveal I was expecting at the end never happened but all in all it was a good read that kept my interest from beginning to end. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Pretty Revenge is a fun adventure with a straightforward end goal. I knew exactly what I was getting into with this book and I hopped on for the thrilling ride. It didn’t have many twists and turns or surprise elements but I liked it because I knew what I was going to get and just wondered how it all would unravel. I also really liked the pacing of this book.
The characters developed well throughout and by the end, I was rooting for them both. Jordana surprised me the most. She went from being seemingly one-dimensional, shallow and not really likable to a well-rounded and strong character that stood her ground. Kerrie started off as a headstrong with only one goal - vengeance and I began to think she was a little bit heartless until she came full circle as well and ended up getting what she wanted but discovering that she has an actual soul in the process. Both women were intelligent and capable of handling their shit without needing a man’s support which was so refreshing. The best character, in my opinion, was William, the harmless gentleman, and I think he may have been able to take credit for bringing some morality back into Kerrie’s life.
If you’re in need of a can’t-put-it-down revenge thriller, this is the book for you.
I’m sorry....I couldn’t wait for this read to be over. In my opinion, the characters are feckless and the plot insipid. Thank you Netgalley and Gallery Press for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for this ARC.
A fiery narrator hellbent on revenge makes for a thriller relief of sorts, in the fact that she was not a watered-down, unreliable narrator. Though most of us are not as financially lucky to be able to pick up and go when tragedy befalls us, I feel like this was a nice, light, decently paced thriller.
I was really drawn to this book and once started could not stop reading. Two girls come from the same area in Connecticut and one of the girls has wronged the other. Fast forward. One girl has become successful in New York and has a rich husband and successful business. The girl from the past discovers that the other girl needs an assistant and offers her services. I loved the character development in this book and all of the storyline was well written and concise. Thanks for the ARC, Net Galley.
This was fun! It’s getting some mixed reviews and I guess I can see that. It’s not really a thriller or mystery. Yes it has some completely improbable scenarios, but it’s fiction! And it was entertaining!
I liked the two main characters. They are both flawed but they have their reasons for this. The NY setting, and tale of its elite and their weddings, was interesting. Yes, I know it’s fiction but I’m not doubting this probably is the case for some.
I read this quickly as I couldn’t wait to see how it would unfold. The ending though was a bit anticlimactic. I wanted more drama I guess. Still I had an enjoyable day reading it and would recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Threshold, Pocket Books for a copy in exchange for a review.
Is Revenge always pretty? Or is it more along the lines of Kerrie’s Grandmas famous quote “Senseless Revenge will whip its neck and snap you on the bottom.” Throughout this book we will learn what happens between two old friends Kerrie and Jordana and why someone is seeking revenge against the other. While, I wouldn’t call this a thrill ride of suspense I did highly enjoy these characters, storyline and finding myself wanting to find out what was going to happen next. I recommend going into this one with an open mind and not expecting a suspenseful thriller and you will enjoy it!
I received an advanced readers copy, all opinions are my own.
Requiring a massive amount of suspending disbelief, I forged ahead in reading this book hoping for the best. This book amounts to nothing more than a young woman hell bent on revenge for a grievance many years prior. That is all fine and dandy, but the execution of the tale was lacking. The characters were one dimensional, and of course one, Jordana, seemed to have it all, the rich husband who was also quite distant, the business she only had to amuse herself, (while secretly saving her money), and of course the once mousy friend/acquaintance from a troubled childhood, who through the magic of tons of money and makeup is the new model in town, and you have used up all of the cliches available. Everything was just so conveniently put together. Of course there was an inheritance so Olivia could just pick up and move to New York on a whim, and of course there were the over the top brides to be controlled by their moneyed parents. Yawn. There seemed to be a lot of detail that wasn't really necessary. You know, we get it, New York is expensive, and of course everyone worth anything has all of the finest designer everything. Meh. Not that great, cannot recommend.
Kerrie O’Malley, jobless and in an unfulfilling relationship, can isolate the singular moment in her life when things veered off course—the night she was irrevocably wronged by someone she looked up to. Eighteen years later, when Kerrie sees the very woman who destroyed her life on television, a fire ignites inside her. The stakes are high. The risks are perilous. But she’ll stop at nothing to achieve the retribution she deserves.
Jordana Pierson is a gilded New Yorker who appears to have it all: wealth, glamour, a successful and handsome husband, and a thriving wedding concierge business. Her record is spotless. Her business is flourishing. No one knows the truth about her and the dark shadows of her past. No one, that is, except Kerrie.
I love a good revenge story so this one was right up my alley! Pretty Revenge is definitely one of my top 5 favorites, I loved this book!
Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC of Pretty Revenge by Emily Liebert

Loved this riveting novel! Revenge served best cold. Readers of Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney would love this book! Great read highly recommend!
This one was okay. It's basically a revenge fantasy. There's plenty that pushes the boundary of believability, including a main character moving to Manhattan on a whim, randomly emailing a stranger for a highly coveted job (& getting it) and the ease of renting and moving about NYC with nearly zero planning. There's even a makeover that I'm sure would make a great movie montage scene set to an upbeat pop song.
The book is written from two perspectives, Kerrie and Jordana, who are ruthless narrators. They're both pretty--as the title demands. And they have this 'not like other girls' vibe that rubbed me the wrong way at times. I'm not sure who I was supposed to root for, if anyone, because I really didn't take to either.
None of the characters really talk like people do. Like I said, it reads like someone's fantasy. It reminded me of a Facebook post telling a story of something that totally, definitely happened and ended with "and then everyone clapped". So many of the characters felt like line item stereotypes: cheating asshole husband, check; materialistic, vapid women, check; rich hottie who's above all that stuff and really 'sees' our heroine...you get it. I also found the guy that we're supposed to like completely insufferable, so there's that.
It's just too predictable. I feel like the author could have played with our expectations and really surprised the audience, but ah well. It's not bad, but I won't remember I read it a month from now.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle ARC of Pretty Revenge.
This was my first book from this author and its going to be my last.
This was a silly, ridiculous, and one of the most boring books about revenge I've ever read populated with copious brand name dropping, privileged, entitled, shallow white people with more bucks than brains and two of the lamest female main characters I've read so far this year, and the year is young.
** Minor spoilers ahead **
Kerrie seeks revenge on a former next door neighbor named Jordan, who 'ruined' her life nearly two decades ago.
When an opportunity allows Kerrie to insinuate herself into Jordan's life, she takes the chance and slowly and stupidly begins to screw up Jordan's life in the dumbest way possible.
Okay, greedy, pompous one dimensional characters notwithstanding, the author builds up a cliche background for Jordan meant to make us sympathetic toward her.
She is now married to a disgustingly wealthy man who demeans her who has no idea of her previous life, in which she escaped an abusive childhood from a psychotic father and a doormat mother. Boo-hoo. Life is tough.
Kerrie is no better; yeah, she's an orphan and she lost her beloved grandmother, but she's two bricks short of a pile herself.
The writing is insipid, immature and I had to remind myself over and over that Kerrie and Jordan are adults in their 30s, not teens in a YA book because that's how trite the writing and characters are.
The reason for Kerrie's revenge is Lifetime laughable; I mean, its funny. Like 'Are you kidding me, I'm Sideshow Bob and Krusty just threw a pie in my face?' funny. In that, its funny but kinda not at the same time. It's just pathetic.
It's not John Wick revenge, its not Charles Bronson revenge, it's just dumb. Like Kerrie and Jordan.
I wanted something dark and twisted, diabolical and shocking but instead I got petty silliness.
Revenge acts include deleting emails (oh, dear!), miscommunication (gosh darn!) and screwing up vendor orders (shocking!).
The 'plot' (and I use the word VERY lightly) is filled with fluff and filler like details about Jordan's past and Kerrie falling in love with a client (wow, I never saw this coming). #sarcasm
Kerrie's coup de grace is (conveniently) finding information that will ruin Jordan's life, as well as her husband and father-in law.
The inability to suspend disbelief is off the charts here. I mean, earthquake shattering, so much so you stop rolling your eyes and saying "Please, like that would ever happen" and you start wondering what outlandish scenario the author is cramming down your throat to force you to believe in.
1. Kerrie's makeover and how fortuitous that she is able to go unrecognized now that she is no longer an ugly duckling
2. Her helpful inheritance that allows her to start over in one of the most expensive cities in the world
3. But most important! There is NO WAY Jordan would have been able to travel and leave the city, much less the country.
Once her husband was busted, the feds would have been interrogating the heck out of her to make sure she wasn't part of the scheme.
Her assets would have been frozen. She would have obtained a lawyer, most likely surrendered her passport because the bitch ain't going nowhere.
She would have been subjected to numerous interviews by federal authorities for as long as her husband's case was pending.
4. And signing over her company to Kerrie? Uh...no. For the reasons above....anything having to do with assets pertaining to Jordan would have been seized and thoroughly investigated.
Look, if the author wants to craft wacky scenarios for us to believe in, you do need reality as a framework to build upon.
This ending was just as phony and cornball as the revenge portion of this tale.
You don't have to be a lawyer to know the details listed above; I'm definitely no attorney.
I do watch a lot of Law & Order and I didn't believe a word of Pretty (crap) Revenge.
There is nothing better than reading a great novel about revenge... I mean especially this novel. Y'all have got to start reading it! This was my first read from Emily Liebert and I am so happy that I was able to read this one because I was instantly hooked and could not stop reading!
This book was absolutely fantastic! I could not stop reading and put it down! It had everything a perfect book needs including mystery, thrills, suspense, revenge, character development, sex and romance. I have already raved about it on instagram as well a very lengthy review on goodreads. I think this will for sure be one of my top reads of 2019 and I will recommending it to everyone I know!
Pretty "revenge" was pretty unsatisfying. Slow and dialed down, I feel like too much attention was paid to the couples getting married and details about their weddings that was not entirely relevant to the "revenge."
Ever since Gone Girl, the book market has been flooded with suspense novels with damaged characters doing terrible things to one another. I'm a big fan of revenge stories, and I was attracted to the synopsis of the book. I enjoyed the story, but I was expecting it to be more of a thriller. The book jacket looks like an imitation of The Wife Between Us or the new bestseller, The Anonymous Girl, but the book is not as suspenseful as either of those novels. Instead, it's more of a story about retribution and misunderstandings. The two main characters are both deceptive and rather unpleasant--not the kind of people I want to be friends with--but I enjoyed the storyline and couldn't wait to see how it all played out. All in all, a pretty decent read.
